Google Now not recognizing my local settings? - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

HI, I have Modaco JB rom installed and am having trouble with Google Now not recognizing my local settings. When I ask for weather it tells me my location, but it is in C not F and there aren't any card settings. When I ask for Home (which I have set in my maps account) it takes me to the closest "Home" named business to my location. I don't have any customization at all (see pic).
I am using Google Apps and have web history turned on. Also all settings on my phone (time, temp, location) are correct. It isn't the rom as this is the second JB rom I have flashed and had the same problem with that one.
Any Help would be appreciated!!

I had this problem too. It turns out that Apps accounts need to turn Google Now on for it to work. I detailed the steps here:

Damn I love this site!!!
Thanks TaFFeR!!

I don't get this at all.
What if you just have a regular Gmail account that all of your services are tied to?

Then you shouldn't need to do this. When I added my normal gmail account to my phone, Google Now automatically worked. When you started Google Now, did you get the little intro/wizard thing, or did it go straight to a search box? If you got the introduction, and whenever you pull up Google Now, you get the colorful banner on top, then Google Now already works on your phone.
If you're having trouble with the Knowledge Graph cards showing up, then you have a different issue regarding your language settings.

Someone else got this working in the UK just fine, I just cannot find the thread where it was mentioned.

From what I've read, along with setting your search and location settings to the US, you'll have to enable Web History and Location History.

Problems after changing to @gmail.com

Hey,
So you may have heard, uk users can now change from @googlemail.com to @gmail.com but now I'm having problems after having do so.
I keep getting errors saying gtalk can't sign in. I don't really use gtalk but it would be nice for it to actually work if I wanted to.
How do I change the main google account to @Gmail.com instead of @Googlemail.com without doing a software reset?
Hi Brummiesteven
There are 2 ways to change the details of your Google account on your phone.
1) Try this (taken from Sizzledcore.com):
Open Menu, and go to Settings.
Select Applications and then go to Manage Applications.
Look for the app “Google Apps” and tap it.
Now tap the “Clear data” button.
Now, in the Notifications (top of the screen) you will see a new notification.
Tap “Your account must be updated”.
Now enter your new Google account info.
Reboot your phone and you’re all done!
2) Change your Google password on a PC and reboot your phone, which should then ask you re-input your Google login details.
Have Google actually made the option available to change to gmail.com?
I know they released a statement saying you will be able to soon but I think you will need to change it somewhere online first before it will work on your phone.
I'm just guessing here by the way.
Make soft reset, I had the same problem and it helped me.

Login to googlemail.com, settings > accounts. Next to your @googlemail.com there's a small link saying chance to @gmail.com?
After you've done so you get a free set of stickers

Same. Seems the only option is to do a reset of the phone. I'll wait untill I've got an hour free as I'd need to install all my apps again. Don't need to worry about my contacts as those are all online.
I just ended up doing a reset of my phone after changing from Googlemail to Gmail. Pretty annoying as I now have to reinstall all my apps and re-link contacts to their Facebook / Twitter / Flickr accounts.
I was also hoping that this might have fixed the Picasa gallery syncing; it hasn't. The options just disappeared under the Google Account settings.
I changed mine to gmail.com but when I log into gmail on my PC it still says @googlemail.com
I still seem to be getting emails through on my Desire but now I get a warning every so often that Google Talk can't connect or something.
I don't even know what Google Talk is, I've never used it as far as I know.

I had to change it twice on the pc before it actually took affect. Try that.
Google Talk is a google IM, however it has to be configured correctly or you wont be able to access the Market Place as I've heard they use the same login.
You can just add the gmail addy as a 2nd account and untick the original googlemail account in the sync settings.
Works a treat without having to reset.
I had to change to @gmail.com twice, but then it stuck.
I reset my phone and I now get Picasa albums in Gallery 3D.
Ah, the changing it twice thing seems to have made my account change online.
I had to change mine twice too!!
Glad there is already a thread on this, previous ways of changing the Google account on Android don't seem to work on the Desire
Stuff that has been suggested which doesn't work:
Go to manage applications, find "Google Apps" and clear the data
Doesn't work, clear data button is greyed out
Go to manage applications and clear the data for everything Google related
Doesn't work, have cleared data for Google Talk, Google Mail, Google Mail Storage, reboot phone, just carries on as normal
Change Google password online
Doesn't work, just prompts for new password, not user account
On mine, all Google mail, Calendar and Contacts seem to be syncing fine without me changing anything, need to confirm all of that. But sending mail from my phone DOES send as gmail.com.
The only thing that is affected is Google Talk. For a start, I dis-abled this and signed out of it, but it obviously likes to stay signed in anyway, because it keeps coming up with a prompt in the notification bar that it failed to sign in, no option to change anything
Why the hell is it still trying to sign in? Might just remove it!!
I just rebooted and now my gmail doesn't work at all. It just says no connection when I go to the gmail app.
Wish I never changed to gmail.com now lol
It seems to all sync OK but I just get this "No connection" error in the gmail app.
Wow i think I will hang fire on this until we have a proper process. Cant believe google didnt send out instructions for android users.
Really good news about the Picasa albums though - that was really annoying me.

You can change it back untill you get something sorted.
I still seem to receive email. The gmail app only seems to load half my inbox though and shows a "No Connection" error half way down the screen with a 'Retry' button on it. I click that, it tries to connect but doesn't.
So to sum up. It works but I have an annoying thing half way down my inbox.

Don't think I'll be changing it again any time soon!

[Q] am i having google now issues?

Been running jb since it was available. Google now will tell me the weather and remind me of my calendar appointments. But it still won't advise me of traffic during my commute to work. I set up my own profile in the people app with my home and work address but it still doesn't work. Any advice?
Also, seems like the only way I can enjoy Google nows voice is when I ask for a definition. What else can one ask or say to get a verbal response?

Usually knowledge graph queries will make it talk "Who is the Prime Minister of England?" "How tall is the Eiffel Tower?" "What time is it in Tokyo?" "What is the weather in Moscow?" "Who won the Nationals game yesterday?"
What is the time, what is the date, what are the pizza stores around me..
it's very cool to see its answers sometimes.
I ask these things and mine usually does a Google search n stays silent. Odd

1. Make sure device language is US English
2. Set google.com as your search location and not your local version (eg. google.cn) This, however, will break local search results (your weather will show up as Washington, DC)

Google maps home\work location

Hy guys,
Tought I'd post this as help to those who need it (like I did..)
I'm using google now and liking the location and weather cards, I followed this simple explanation by H3g3m0n :
To set Home/Work on Android (It's kind of hidden):
Start Maps
Tap on your icon (The blue dot on the map, this should have your contact photo on it not just the blue arrow. You can pull it up by turning on the Latitude option.)
Tap on your name that appears above it
Tap location History
Tap the menu dots down the bottom right
The you get the Change home/work location options
this is a brief how-to on how to set home and work locations in google maps so that google now will know where i live and work and start giving me cards about that info.
But after I did that I learned that google now will automatically learn where I live and work and that sounded really cool and so I wanted to delete the information I specified in order to let google now figure it out for itself.. I couldnt find any way to delete that information.. until I logged into google maps from my desktop, and had been given the option to delete home and work locations. today is the first day I went to work with the JB and google now updates so I'm gonna let google now figure it out for the next couple of days and see what comes out GOTTA LOVE GOOGLE!
Thanks for sharing the tip but I am curious - why would you want to go back and let Google Now figure it out if you were already able to specify home and work locations yourself?

Well first of all I wanted to see how google now learns my locations by itself, sounds pretty cool
And second - lets say I specified a street name and number and the gps\wifi detects that my home is one street number off (my street is smll and numbers can be as close as 20 meters) then it won't know I'm at home, I guess I didnt want to restrict an address to a certain street number but rather give google now the oppertunity to learn where I live on a larger radius
Erase job?
I can't seem to erase my job. I was laid off a month ago and Google now is a glaring remind every time I open it when it tells me how far I am from my old office. Kinda depressing lol its like you have to have an address there. I've cleared my work location on Google maps but Google now just doesn't get it.

Google has always done a pretty good job of knowing where I am all the time and deciding where is work and where is home. Years ago my roommate and I would use Latitude to keep tabs on each other. Google Now kind of tapped into what google already knew. Having your wifi on helps Google determine your location, especially if you have wifi at work/home, but even if you don't.

Just right click on your desired location, then click on "what's here" (last option down the box) and your coordinates will be displayed in the search bar, just copy them into the address box.

EDIT: it saves what ever address is near that position and assume it as my home. and nearest address is
Manik Bagh Over Bridge, Nandanvan Colony
Indore, Madhya Pradesh 452014, India ‎ 385 m NE
and my home is almost 1km far from here

"Okay google, Navigate home" is no longer working for me.

I use this feature all the time but after i clean wiped my phone now it either pulls up 3 businesses with home in the name or it will pull up 2 contacts that happen to have home in the title. Not sure why it isn't working right. Telling it to navigate to work still works correctly.
I already have my home set in the google app and in google maps.

Here's what i found...
I have read about this problem so many places and seen so many solutions - none of which worked for me.
Today - I finally found out where my "work" and "home" were stuck and preventing navigate to... from working for these locations. Short form - they were stuck in my Google+ account, but NOT in the places category. It was my contact settings for home and work. They were set to blank in my Google plus profile. It didn't matter that I had them set in my phone. It didn't matter that I had them set in Google Maps (both on Android and on the web). Caches - meaningless. In the end, it came down to the fact that those values were blank in my Google+ account - THAT is what stopped the service from working.
Thank me if I helped.

? Yeah I think I used to try that too and noticed it didn't work one time. Then I realized in a Google commercial they would say "How do I get to..." and gave that a try instead. So I just use that most of the time.

Go to google plus on your browser Click on your profile. (This is from my phone, mind you) click on the info button on the rightside (the circle lettered "i").
Your location should be stored there (make sure its private). Next turn off your accounts sync on your phone and then back on. Accounts/Google turn off on everything and then back on.
Installing a larger package of google apps fixed the navigation problem for me. It seems in the nano or smaller package some essentiell voice things are missing.

My watch says it can't answer personal questions.

Hello, all.
When I use Google Assistant on my Huawei Watch 2 and include personal information (e.g. "Take me home."), it gives me the following error message:
Actually, I need permission before I can answer personal questions about you. To change your settings, just open the Google Home app on your phone. Once that's done, ask me again!
Click to collapse
This started happening maybe a month back or so. I know that I was able to ask personal questions at first when I got the watch. I have tried looking through the settings on the Google Home app, but I haven't found anything relevant. The watch doesn't even show up as a device alongside my Google Homes, Chromecast, and phone.
I originally had a Nexus 6P, and I recently upgraded to a Pixel 2 XL. I don't know if that has anything to do with what's happening, but I would find that pretty strange. I'm not sure exactly when this started happening, so I don't know if there's any correlation between changing phones and this issue. I just checked, and the watch says the system is up-to-date, and all installed apps are up-to-date.
I was hoping that an update would be pushed to the watch that would fix this, but it's been a long time, and I still have the same issue.
Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.
Lets try...
Hi,
lets try the following method:
In your Google App on your Smartphone go to Settings -> Accounts & Privacy -> Google Activity Controls
What does it show here?
Is it the right E-Mail-Address?
If you want to use personalized orders, Google needs to track your information. E.g if you want to say "show me the home rout", it has to analyze, where your home is.
As far as I know, Google does this by checking, where your phone is (via GPS) most of the time - but thats just an idea.
Hope I could help you!

Hello.
I just checked, and the email is correct. All of the options are set to "On."
I guess I should add that when I tell my phone to take me home, that still works fine. Also, my Google Homes know where my work is. So, it shouldn't be an issue where Google isn't able to query for that personal information. I have that enabled for my account. But for some reason, I can't do it from my watch.
Any clue yet?
Did anybody figure out how to fix this?
Many others have posted the exact same problem.
