If you are using the Verizon PRL it wont let you update your profile on Sprint's network.
Edit: Well, you should be able to update your prl either way. Here is what the Google says
Error code 1012 most commonly indicates one of the following situations:
Incomplete or incorrect programming of the device.
Incomplete or erred provisioning following activation, ESN swap, or change to the Sprint Vision username or password.
The network is busy or experiencing a problem.
To troubleshoot Error code 1012, perform the following steps:
NOTE: While troubleshooting, if your attempt to log in to Sprint Vision services fails, wait 20 to 30 minutes before trying again. Three failed login attempts within a 20-minute period locks your account for 20 minutes. Attempting to log in to a locked account resets the timer on the lock.
Make sure you are in a Sprint coverage area and the phone has two or more bars of signal.
Attempt a phone call. NOTE: If you cannot complete a call, the phone will not provision data services and you will need to contact us.
If the phone was recently activated, wait four hours, and then attempt to log in to Sprint Vision again.
With the phone on, remove the battery from the phone for one to two minutes. Reinsert the battery, and then attempt to log in to Sprint Vision again.
Update your Sprint Vision profile, and then attempt to log in to Sprint Vision again.
If the previous troubleshooting steps did not resolve the issue, contact us for further assistance with this error.
NOTE: It is important that you call from either a home phone or another phone and request data support. Explain your issue and what troubleshooting steps you have performed. They will assist you with programming your phone. Actions that might be taken by a support representative include re-provisioning or fully resetting your phone, which erases everything on the phone. Be sure to back up your important information prior to contacting support.

They aren't flashable, but it's better than nothing.
If I were you I would just wait a while and then try again from your phone. The network may have been busy.

Hello!
I'm using a HTC Desire with a the "Pre-rooted Stock Froyo" ROM by teppic74.
Today I've received an OTA update notification from HTC, which I haven't accepted yet because it would probably break my ROM (by the way, it seems like teppic didn't disable the OTA update notifications in this ROM).
The size of the update is 6.34 MB.
Has anyone else received the OTA update? Anyone knows what's updated?
EDIT: As I've read somewhere, it increases the software version number to 2.29.405.14 from 2.29.405.05

Yes... increases... version number used to end in 05, with the update it would end in 14.
I don't know what changes in functionality this update is supposed to bring.
Hey i just received the system update actually its called "system enhancement 6.34 MB"
And i ofc clicked on yes, phone restards and then when the "package icon" aka the lets say progress bar starts it just stops and a "!" along with an android maskot appears... cant update, my phone is rooted tho...so, any suggestions or news to this update in general i would appreciate!
ps.i hope you get what i wanted to say
I've been seeing this in other forum when I googled it and looks like no one doesn't have any idea about what the update contains.. yet.
It's nice to see the good old Froyo still getting "enhancements".
Old? Sure. Good? Not by a long shot.
I only had Froyo for a couple of weeks before I rooted and flashed Gingerbread and never used Eclair sooo I'll take your word for it. Haha
If your using a custom RoM, you should never apply OTA updates.
@DroidZone: maybe citing the message just before yours isn't necessary? Just asking.
@shankly1985: you're not helping us who are dealing with this problem as I can pretty much certify we all know that: just read the original post and other comments.
I registered here to ask about this and maybe have an answer. The thing is I am NOT using a custom ROM. I am using the original HTC ROM that came with my Desire 14 months ago. BUT I have rooted the phone in anticipation of installing MIUI – I was desperately looking for a two-way recording of phone calls that never made it into MIUI. So I've installed ClockWorkMod as well as ROM Manager. I too have experienced exactly what @Drizzline describes. System update notification, phone restarting, exclamation icon that seems to be from ClockWorkMod and not from the OS.
My question is: how can I apply the system update, knowing that I have never installed a custom ROM on my device nor made any changes to the factory-installed – and subsequently updated – vendor-provided ROM?

None of the methods I found around Googling (clearing cache, factory reset) could fix this issue. Now I'm really pissed off and I don't know what to do, except waiting for another update from HTC.
"System enhancements"? Hah
@vodoomoth, Stop telling people what to do and what not to.. Who do you think you are, barging into a forum and being a pompous ass with your first post?
If telling that I think repeating a the whole post above might not be necessary when I reply with one line is telling people what to do and what not to do, then yes, I am a pompous ass. No, actually, I am a stupid arrogant pompous ass. But I didn't write the Netiquette, I just read it and it's pretty standard in forums. Sorry to be the one to remind you that there is no need to cite an entire message and reply with just one single word and a question mark!
I doubt you were talking about me telling shankly1985 that his "do not apply OTA updates on custom ROMs" was not helping. Oh yes, I am not the person who hasn't read the opening post where that concern is pretty obvious.
However, I don't see how my post is summed up as "barging into" a forum. I didn't know some behaviors were not allowed in first posts but only in later posts. Sorry for that again. I guess I should have not written a first post.
To other people, sorry for the off-topic.

You can flash an RUU of 2.29.405 and return it back to the state it was before you updated. You can do this now to fix your issue, if you dont want to go the rooted way.

It actually does: imagine if my screen doesn't light up anymore. Then I would send my phone to repair. But I wouldn't be able to restore any RUU, since I wouldn't see anything and I couldn't be sure my phone was restored successfully or not.
Anyway, please, let's stay in topic... OTA update and its problems.

If you screen died, all you'd have to do is boot fastboot, and watch the RUU process and your pc screen, so you stand corrected as you would know if it's restored.
And I don't really see what all the hype is about.. I bet it doesn't even do anything.

At the very least, try going under Settings -> System Updates and update your PRL and Profile (that is, given you're currently running a Sprint-based ROM). If you're not, you're going to have to flash one.
Ok, so I dont have a backup of the ROM I was running before this all started. Im recovering flash-aholic, so Ive been through a few ROMS since it first started.
Im running Mik3D, is that a sprint based ROM?

The best way to check is to see if you have the option I referred to: Settings -> System Updates.
And yes, Mik3D is a Sprint-based ROM and has that option. Give it a try and see if your texts start working. The other option (if that doesn't work) is to reset your data profile and see if that helps.

You'll need to know your MSL (Master Subsidy Lock) code in order to reset your data profile. Downloading MSL Reader from the Market is the easiest way to get it. Do that first, give it Root permissions, and write down your MSL.
Then, you'll need to use EPST to access the phone's Data Profile information. Open the Phone Dialer, and press ##DATA# or (##3282#). A box should come up telling you it's initializing, and you should be prompted to choose either View Mode or Edit Mode. Choose Edit Mode. You'll then be prompted to input your MSL. Do that, and the Data Profile options should load. The first option should be "Data Profile". Press to open it, and information about your device will begin to load. Once it's done, press the Menu button, and choose "Restore". When the warning appears, tell it "Yes" you're sure, and it should tell you it's going to reboot in 10 seconds. Let it (or press the button to do it immediately). When the phone boots back up, it should start provisioning itself. If it doesn't, open the stock Web Browser ("Internet" in the app drawer) and it should then start automatically. If it STILL doesn't, go back to Settings -> System Updates and run the firmware update check, update PRL, and then Update Profile.
If you don't get your wife's texts then, I'd imagine the problem lies elsewhere. At that point, I'd say start from scratch. Using RA Recovery, wipe everything besides SD card, and reflash the ROM. That should get rid of any issues.
I apologize for the crudeness of my instructions, as I wrote them from memory.

This is interesting to me - are you SURE the issue isn't with her phone? It's inconsistent that you'd only not get her texts.
If you've done all of the above and your still having issues, I'd have to say that you've successfully eliminated your device as the possible source of the problem, though I always use the stock app and have never had any such issues.
thanks for the all the help and ideas. Now comes the test of me getting all my txts. So far so good.
just got the Nexus not too long ago, got it rooted okay, was running franco kernel and the foxhound ROM....then things started to go wrong. At first, it was random FCs, then I couldnt text out, then lost my data, which I go that back...but now, it won't even recognize the SD card. When I try to boot it stays at the google screen with the padlock unlocked.
WTH can I do to fix this???? I have been reading all over the forums, but this has gone waaay beyond anything I know.
ALL info that I can remember for the phone:
Canadian Rogers GSM GTi-9250M
Baseband UGKK7
ROM at this point is unknown, but was trying to revert back to stock ROM
bootloader primekk15
unlocked with CWM touch
anything someone would need to help just ask, I will try to answer as best I can, I just want the damn thing working again, its my only phone
Can you get into the bootloader? If so, flash the stock yakju image from Google following this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1366806
If that works, see how you get on
okay, I managed to get back on, doing the stock recovery method Thanx Eddy...but now I'm back to the original problem of not being able to send texts. I got the number I'm supposed to input on the phone info screen when using *#*#4636*#*# method...but it always returns as an update error, and if I hit refresh first, all that shows is 00 instead of the +17057969300 for SMSC setting. I tried to update the kernel, no luck. Everything is working great aside from that...but seeing that I text family and friends all across the country, I kinda need this to be working. Any suggestions?
Get your operator to send the settings in a text message - I'm sure this method still works with the Nexus doesn't it?
ya I had called them up to troubleshoot the issue, thats how I got the number. But they are saying that there doesnt seem to be anything wrong at their end. I tried to add the smsc number in using an old acer liquid e I have, same issue, so I'm now wondering if my sim card itself is messed up?
The smsc number has to be in hexadecimal now.
Read this for more details and how to convert your number. http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/SMSC_Updates

Tried that, brought it back to bone stock, 4.0.1 and let it update to 4.0.2
didn't work...as I asked before, could this be a sim card issue? or possibly something messed up on my internal SD, since now it only show me as having 13GB instead of 16...
*Update*: Turns out my sim card was pooched....replaced that and a factory reset and I'm up and running again....now if I can just get the foxHound ROM to work with my rain alarm...anyone know how to bring the maps back to the version that came with 4.0.2? cause that app won't work with any of the 4.0.2+ custom ROMS for some reason...and seeing that i paid for that and a few other apps that require it, be nice to have it, or is this something I should be asking the dev directly?
Mayday! Got myself a fair bit of a problem here.
I have a Sprint GS3 (SPH-L710) that has been flashed to Verizon by SWIM. The update for Android 4.3 pushed through today and now I'm experiencing a looped popup error that says "Unfortunately, LocationServices has stopped." I click the OK box and it goes away only to return within a literal second. I can't even navigate enough to visit Titanium and restore the system.
I'm quickly looking at a factory reset, but the problem is that I fear a factory reset will eliminate my flash data. I have my MEID and MSL numbers... Is there any hope of my bailing myself out of this problem? The phone still works, technically, but the popup is so intrusive that it's really only good for inbound calls right now.
Can anyone help? I either want to permanently disable popup errors from the system (the system appears to be completely functional, in spite of the error) or I want to revert to 4.2... Or I need info on how to reflash my phone to Verizon after a factory reset. Really, any reasonably possible solution will be considered here.

If 4.3 OTA came through, you can not revert to 4.2 because of KNOX, you will corrupt the bootloader. I think until an ODIN flashable tar file is available there is no way. You may wanna do a factory reset, even though you'll loose Verizon settings.

Well dammit. So there is absolutely nothing I can do to remove KNOX... Is there anything I can do to kill or otherwise silence the error loop? "LocationServices" and "System UI" are the repeat offenders with LocationServices being the one with the crippling loop. As I mentioned, the phone works fine when the popup errors aren't stopping me from navigating. I really don't give a damn about warranty issues or anything like that, I just need to find some way to render my phone usable.

As an afterthought: If I factory reset, are there any resources that will tell me how to set about restoring my Verizon settings? Phone doesn't do me much good if it doesn't do phone things. From my reading, I've found there is a thread here regarding flashing from Sprint to Verizon but the step-by-step video link was removed by a mod. I sorta need that information if I'm going to sort this though. For the record: Flashing phones to other networks was NOT illegal (as that thread mentions) at the time I had mine done. If that has any impact on the sharing of such Holy Grail knowledge.

Further study has shown that the error cycle begins just following the "preparing network" notification after booting. Don't suppose that has any effect on potential solutions?
