just got the Nexus not too long ago, got it rooted okay, was running franco kernel and the foxhound ROM....then things started to go wrong. At first, it was random FCs, then I couldnt text out, then lost my data, which I go that back...but now, it won't even recognize the SD card. When I try to boot it stays at the google screen with the padlock unlocked.
WTH can I do to fix this???? I have been reading all over the forums, but this has gone waaay beyond anything I know.
ALL info that I can remember for the phone:

ROM at this point is unknown, but was trying to revert back to stock ROM

unlocked with CWM touch
anything someone would need to help just ask, I will try to answer as best I can, I just want the damn thing working again, its my only phone
Can you get into the bootloader? If so, flash the stock yakju image from Google following this thread:

okay, I managed to get back on, doing the stock recovery method Thanx Eddy...but now I'm back to the original problem of not being able to send texts. I got the number I'm supposed to input on the phone info screen when using *#*#4636*#*# method...but it always returns as an update error, and if I hit refresh first, all that shows is 00 instead of the +17057969300 for SMSC setting. I tried to update the kernel, no luck. Everything is working great aside from that...but seeing that I text family and friends all across the country, I kinda need this to be working. Any suggestions?
Get your operator to send the settings in a text message - I'm sure this method still works with the Nexus doesn't it?
ya I had called them up to troubleshoot the issue, thats how I got the number. But they are saying that there doesnt seem to be anything wrong at their end. I tried to add the smsc number in using an old acer liquid e I have, same issue, so I'm now wondering if my sim card itself is messed up?
The smsc number has to be in hexadecimal now.

Tried that, brought it back to bone stock, 4.0.1 and let it update to 4.0.2
didn't work...as I asked before, could this be a sim card issue? or possibly something messed up on my internal SD, since now it only show me as having 13GB instead of 16...
*Update*: Turns out my sim card was pooched....replaced that and a factory reset and I'm up and running again....now if I can just get the foxHound ROM to work with my rain alarm...anyone know how to bring the maps back to the version that came with 4.0.2? cause that app won't work with any of the 4.0.2+ custom ROMS for some reason...and seeing that i paid for that and a few other apps that require it, be nice to have it, or is this something I should be asking the dev directly?

OK I have a Sprint GNex that is rooted with unlocked boot loader. It is on stock ICS 4.0.4. I can not send or receive regular text messages. Picture messages work fine. I tryed deleting the moms.apk with sysappremover and installing a new moms.API file I found on this site but it will not install. Also 3rd party messaging apps do not work . I am guessing it is some setting but I can not find any advanced text settings. Is my only fix to use Odin to completely reset the phone? Thanks in advance for any help

Well back at stock with locked boot loader and still getting refresh error and update error in the smsc screen sprint started a repair ticket on it and are supposed to call me in 24-48 hrs...people who have gsm gnex say that putting the sim card in another phone fixes it but since we have no sim I am not sure what to do
Still in same spot. Started sprint fix ticket and they keep moving fix day back saying they are waiting on a part. Sounds like BS to me but maybe this has happiness to one of you also...anyone?

I hope someone has some idea as to what I can do to fix my T889 Note 2 as right now it has no signal, does not register on the TMobile network and even worse, after playing with it some more it seems I have erased the IMEI in the EFS folder... Here is what I did:
I was initially using the Jedi X 7.2 ROM with Perseus Kernel, and everything was just fine. But I guess I was itching for something else :laugh: ... Reading thru the threads here I saw that some of us had flashed AT&T roms like Cleanrom without any problems. They said Cleanrom did not include an AT&T radio so it would work just fine for the T889. But just to be sure, after full wipe and flashing Cleanrom, I have also flashed a Tmobile Modem and Perseus Pernel for T889. That's when the problems started....
After flashing Cleanrom I had NO signal and the network unknown message... At that point the phone still showed the IMEI number... I have tried going back to Jedi X and Odin back to stock, nothing helped.... It still showed Unknown Network, and Not registered on network, impossible to make calls....
Reading some more thru other XDA threads I saw that someone had posted a solution that had worked for him by going into the Service menu (by pressing *#197328640#) and then going to UMTS, then COMMON then NV REBUILD and then ERASES ALL EFS1/2/3....
At that time I was pretty desperate and seeing that it had worked for someone else with a similar problem I tried it immediately... Now that I really give it some thought, I can't believe I pressed Erase all EFS !! :laugh:
That's when I also got the phone showing me IMEI 0.... I guess now I have lost my IMEI as well? I have not made any backups, so restoring is not an option for me at this point !!
Would anyone have any ideas to help me revive this phone? thanks a lot :victory:
P.S. I should add that I still do have the IMEI number of course, it's written on the back of the phone and the original box as well...

Sorry you had to go through this man.. i was going through the same thing when i first got my phone. Xda didn't have a forum for the T-Mobile Note II so i decided to root and flash one of the international version Roms without even making a backup first (dumb of me) then i went ahead and flashed "Android Revolution HD" Rom and lost signal and IMEI showed Unknown.. so i asked for help but no answers.. and then "cmenard" dropped a stock Rom which i'm going to link you to.. i flashed that and flashed the modem on top and that solved the problem for me. So i will go ahead and give you the link to the Stock Rom and the modem i flashed to get my phone to work. Please follow the instrucations. Hope this helps!

guys, one thing you MUST DO with gsm devices... back up your IMEI... this is actually stored in a partition on your device, and as of recent there is a handy little app in the themes and apps section to back it up. it is a free app found on the market and offered here on xda. before this there was a tool somebody created to back up and restore this partition

Thank you Addis, no need for you to upload, it seems I finally got a proper download... Flashed it with TeamWin Touch Recovery and no changes, I will try to flash it with CWM also, but that has given me problems with this file.... let's see... Thanks for your help, I will hit your thanks button as soon as I finish writing this...
If all else fails, I will just go ahead and return everything to factory settings and send it in for repair....
P.S. I should mention that I have used a tool found on the GS3 AT&T threads which has worked for my T889 to re-inject my IMEI number back... So now my IMEI number shows up again... But that's about it... Network is still listed as UNKNOWN and Status is listed as Disconnected...

Have you gone into the settings menu, more settings, mobile network and tried connecting to T Mobile that way? If that doesn't work then try to reflash stock T Mobile ROM with Odin and it should reset your network.

It's written for the Galaxy S3 for AT&T and other carriers, but it worked for me on the T889 Note 2. Try to read all the instructions carefully .
One of the things you have to do is change a setting in the hidden menu which you access by dialing *#7284# using the stock dialer. In the hidden menu or PhoneUtil menu select USBSettingsMenu choose the correct mode and click ok. The correct mode for the Galaxy S3 is called RMNET + DM + MODEM mode, there was NO SUCH setting for my NOTE 2, but there is one that's very similar, so I chose that....
Then you jump to the section called IMEI Injection ... Pay attention to the way the IMEI is entered, it's a specific sequence, almost backwards....

Hey I was messing with this on my T-Mobile Note II and I changed my RAT mode to WCDMA and now I'm unable to get LTE.
I've done EVERYTHING. I've even ODIN restored it. It WILL NOT connect to LTE anymore. Nothing I do to it makes it want to connect to LTE.
What do I do? Why won't it connect to LTE anymore even after flashing the factory image?
Will erasing EFS1/2/3 do anything to help or is that a really bad idea?
I have no clue what else there is to do. I've tried loading NV defaults but it gives an error for whatever reason.
I have a Galaxy Note 2 on the sprint network. Yesterday someone sent me a text and i tried to sent them a text back but my phone didn't have a signal. It reset itself a bunch of times. It stopped resetting and now there is no signal to the tower. I looked on my phone and Baseband version, network, mobile network type say unknown. service state is out of service, username is unavailable. mobile network state is disconnected, my phone number is unknown, min unknown, prl version unknown, meid unknown, imei unknown, iccid unknown. device status modified.
I rooted my phone when i first got it with the method that doesn't make your flash counter go up. I had super user installed and had the OTA survival mode checked and did the OTA update for multiwindow and then lost root. This wasn't a big deal to me so I just left it alone, everything worked. Its been a couple of months and then this happened. I reflashed a stock rom on the phone and that didn't fix anything. I rooted it with the Samsung Note 2 toolkit and that went well. But it somehow got stuck on the boot screen again after a while so i just reflashed to stock.
I downloaded QPST and entered my IMEI into the nv line 550 and clicked the write NV block and returned an error. Im stuck. I have insurance and I've only had the phone a couple of months. What the heck happened? Was it somekind of wipe? I have been working on this all day and I'm going to bed now, but can someone help me out?
I would not have been so quick to start messing with qpst.In most cases where ive seen this the imei and related numbers were fine and it was a system screw up. That said,This happened to me recently and even odin wouldnt fix it. I ran THIS and it brought me back so I would try that first.

thanks. I am downloading that now and will try it and let you know. I didn't want to start messing with qpst but i saw a tutorial that you can enter your imei back into your phone with it. i got my numbers off the box and went to work. but qpst would not write the values into my phone.
when i plug the usb into the phone a flag pops up in windows and says hardware id is missing as well.

i went to the link. i downloaded the file. it was a zip file so i put it on an sdcard and slapped it in my phone. i used the vol up, home key, and pwr key and then i used the update from zip file on external storage. it did some stuff and rebooted. i checked my flash counter and it went up and said i was running custom, custom.
i didn't see any instructions with your post that you linked and I probably didn't use that file the way it was supposed to be used. how exactly do you use it? and when i turned my phone on it still said baseband unknown.

Do you have Root Explorer? If baseband is showing unknown makes me wonder if build.prop is there and complete...?
It needed flashed in a custom recovery. Did u use twrp or cwm to flash it? If so, you did it right. Is it only the baseband thats unknown or everything still? Did you try a ##72786# dialer code reset?

I don't have root explorer on here right now because I was trying to return the phone back to stock for a return to the sprint store.
I used the stock rom that you download from the samsung note 2 tool kit. how do i check what your talking about?

everything is still unknown.
when i dial ##72786# it goes to a meny labeled SCRTN but is blank with no options.
at this point I used triangle away and flashed the stock rom on my phone, it keeps randomly resetting. in the setttings it still has baseband unknown. i did the ota update and the build number is JROO3C.L900VPALJC
under status, everything is unknown and at the botton it says device modified.
when i put it into download mode right now it says custum binary: no ; current binary: samsung official; system status: custom
this started when the phone just started resetting a bunch after my buddy texted me and then it didn't have service and all the values were wiped, i just want to take it back to sprint because ive only had it for a couple of months. will the above values be ok for a trip to the sprint store?

i think i have a corrupted EFS. can anyone help?
I had this happen to me when I first got the phone and rooted. Scariest first day of ownership thought I was going to have to go in to sprint. Thankfully I flashed the full stock tar and my phone came back to life. Maybe you should try flashing it and see how it turns out for you.

I'm not familiar with that EFS issue since I've never read about it. However I would try that tar I posted as a last resort since the stock zip didn't do anything for you. The issue you're describing is the exact same thing that happened to me and that tar brought me back. And about being custom/modified it all depends on the Sprint Rep you get. Some are cool about it some are not.

i just downloaded root explorer.
i think im having some efs issues. i downloaded efs pro to help with it but it says my phone is not perm rooted. but i do have root right now.
btw- the galaxy note 2 tool kit is friggin awesome- totally donating.

also to everyone helping, i made a backup of all my system settings with my backup pro app before all this happened. i was wondering if it backs up your efs data anywhere and if it does, how could i get it back on my phone?

flashed the sextape back to stock rom and it didn't work. i think my efs is corrupted- gunna take something more than flashing- like editing some files to put my meid and other info and pushing it back to my phone.

Update-
my phone is screwed. i got the MSL and put it in my phone and nothing happens. i have to take it back and get a new one.even though all the hardware works, just cant program the info back in the phone for meid, baseband, username, icc id, etc. etc. so no voice calls.
the bummer is that this all happened randomly. i wasn't messing with my phone at all and it was running great then it reset a bunch of times and then wiped everything. i don't know if it would have helped, but i highly reccomend everyone backing up their EFS. because you never know when this will happen to you.

Ok I just got tmobile US galaxy note 2 unlock so I can use it on AT&T. Before I rooted the phone, everything worked. I could make calls text and use google play.
But after rooting and flashing paranoidandriod 3.10, I don't have signal, it wont read sim card and google play won't work as in it goes into "unfortunately google play has stopped" crap. Same thing with Goo manager. I tried the suggestion for those apps and nothing worked. So then, I've been on this board trying to find the right answer. To make things worst, I then flashed MyRom Revolution still no signal or won't read sim card however google play works. Now I'm trying to go back to stock and that seems to be a challenge since twrp won't flash it. I was able to flash it back to stock but still won't read sim card and the imei shows null/null. this is just a bad day. Can anyone help me? What am I doing wrong? This has just been a bad experience.

Do you have an efs partition backup?
Your messed your efs partition up, there was a thread on how to fix it, I'm at work and can't search well though so you'll have to find it.

Ok first off, Calm down.. evening will be ok. Which pa did you flash. Have you tried going into recovery and factory resetting & wiping caches

Well I dont really know how I got mine back to life, tried all the standard stuff from the threads,got my imei back but had no network,network type,service nothing helped. last resort I said whatever ill try anything now. Came across this

whatever it did it restored everything (cold see carrier,network,etc)but corrupted imei, next i followed this guide

used the imei generator, then the writer (link on post does not work for the imei generator,so found it here

Wrote my imei back and presto, back in action. Fully functional again, including 4G

I tried the first link and qpst won't recognize my phone. It reads "no phone connected" in qpst config, That read Phone unknown, no ESN, Banner known and Port com6

I did that too and my phone won't recognize it. I'm just going to send it back to samsumg
I just sent it back to Samsung. Hopefully I'll get a replacement or they will fix it.
So after rooting my phone yesterday, today i was making an attempt to odin flash [KERNEL][JB][SOURCE][SPR] GB27 + Agat's tRec
and after my phone restarted i am stuck in Factory mode and when i went to go look at my dec number under "about phone" my dec number changed to 17600000000 so i can't connect to my network or anything, i used SimpleDownloaderTool to bring it back to factory gb27 and still the same thing, can anyone please help?

You have to call in and tell them you lost function.
Besides not knowing your dec, you probably don't know your msid, which is needed for proper provisioning.
What you want them to do is walk you through provisioning since the website no longer works.
Don't know how just rooting caused this issue since you have to know your msl to change those settings. So something seriously went wrong (which I'd like to know your rooting method) or there's more to this story...
:edit: After talking to my lil lady who's a Sprint employee, there's something missing in this.
What did you do? Please list the steps.
Throwing Garwynn and Agats name out there with this issue is something not taken lightly (Garwynn made that recovery) so I'm really hoping we get the list of steps or whatever it is you're leaving out.
