[q] ics 4.1.b.431 - Xperia Arc Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Couple days ago I installed latest ICS 4.1.B.431 on my Xperia arc S via Sony PC Companion 2.1. The Question is If I install Xperia CWM Auto-Installer, will I be able to install future updates via Sony PC Companion.
I just want to install galaxy s3 launcher and widget with CWM.
Thanks in advance

If your bootloader is still LOCKED then YES you will be able to update via SONY PC Companion .
if you r rooted then you can install CWM auto installer.with no problem.

I checked, my bootloader is still locked, can i install cwm with locked bootloader, my phone ISN'T ROOTED. If I install galaxy s3 launcher and accuwheater widget with cwm will I be able after that make installation of future official updates via Sony PC companion. I don't want custom firmwares just official.

If ur bootloader is LOCKED then you have no problem & nothing to worry.you can still receive future updates from SONY.
YES , you can install CWM in lockedbootloader.but first you have root your device.here is the rooting istructions in this thread HERE.
After rooting you will be all set to go & can install CWM auto installer from market.
Then u can flash all the latest goodies u want.
I hope i was helpful .....

I now perfectly understand everything you said, can I use SuperOneClick for rooting xperia arc S beacuse it's simpliest way for rooting, i just don't know does it support my phone..

I think the SuperOneClick method is only for 4.0.2.A.0.42 version and below.
I recommend you use the guide that noim posted.

hey u can update via SEUS or FOTA (OTA) ONLY IF U ARE HAVING YOUR locked BOOTLOADER otherwise seus won't work and ota will break your phone.....
you can flash ftf files if u are having unlocked BL....
This update needs to be instaled over SEUS (OTA not work this time)
My bootloader is LOCKED
and i have root-ed 2.3.3, rooted with gingerbreak...followed tutorial on this site...
so i can update via SEUS without loosinj ROOT?
Everytime you use SEUS (PC Companion) you will remove root. Because it flashes the phone in much more extent (taking out root) compared to OTA. That's why the OTA retains the root, it just updates modules and does not entirely flash the phone.
For phones with locked bootloaders, the OTA is the way to update with root retained.
and just one question more..
what is best (your oppinions)
2.3.3 rooted
or
2.3.4 un rooted with
xLoud
zoom in picture mod
and more features
Latest 2.3.3 with root and all the features you posted is the best.
2.3.4 isn't out yet...

2.3.3 with root and all this features from 2.3.4?

Stock firmware (by Sony Ericsson)
4.0.A.2.368 - Android 2.3.3 (newest official) (updated launcher, CRT display off animation, theme support, xLOUD, faster boot time, ...)
This update is also available on PC Companion for most users with 3.0.1! (will kill root)
HOW TO GET A ROOTED 4.0:
1. Flash back to 2.3.2 (Arc users: use this file with Flashtool, Neo users: flash to Generic Trade Germany with Wotanserver)
2. Root with Gingerbreak, do not do anything else
3. Update from the phone (Settings -> About -> Software update)
4. Done!
Arc
Available on Wotanserver.com (click for customization list)
Flashtool (LT15i): Generic Global (mirror) -Nordic Telia Branded
Neo
Available on Wotanserver.com (click for customization list)
Flashtool: Hong Kong (not sure if it's generic, I recommend wotanserver if you don't mind losing user data)

The Answer to this question is c l e a r l y NO !
Here's what happened to me provided it may help someone to whom the same occured.
I was rooted 2.3.4 through dataguben's tutorial (flash .184 then .181 then gingerbreak and finish with OTA) Everything was fine then i decided to unlock bootloader to get Cyanogen and test it. Had CM7 running a few days but it doesn't support HDMI and some other stuff regarding camera. Anyway, i decided to get back to STOCKROM but for some reason, the backup i made on recovery would not restore (freezed on SE logo). I flashed back through datagubben's method but on OTA, SuRpRiSe ! ! ! ------> PHONE BRICKED !
So the OTA with unlocked Bootloader BrIcKs the phone.
REMEDY : go to http://www.mediafire.com/?g1b5j712ajx4yjd and download the small 99.8 KB relocking file. Use flashtool to relock your bootloader. Once done you'll reboot on the version you were on just before the OTA bricked the phone. Since now it's impossible to upgrade through OTA the only option left to have ROOTED 2.3.4 is to upgrade through the latest version of SEUS http://dl-www.sonyericsson.com/cws/download/1/110/61/1317636927/Update_Service_Setup-2.11.10.7.exe and go for an upgrade. Once done, plug back your phone to flashtool (USE VERSION 0.4.2 or above) and click on root. Be patient as this requires flashtool to go through TWO steps to ROOT your phone. Your ARC will then reboot and you should have SUPERUSER among your applications.
Thanks to XDA community for all the great tips given here and there to help each other.
PS: If you want one full application that gives sense to a rooted phone's existence, try ROM ToolBox and that's it. It's awesome.
It is very old thread, why do you spam and refreshing this.

Hi.
You may consider this as a spam if you like, but if this maximizes the chances for someone who's in trouble with his/her phone to find answers, i don't mind refreshing this. Besides, "out of time & context posts" helped me figure out new directions to repair my phone.
All the best ...

It aint a big deal...nothing would happen! More or less you won't be able to update! Relocking the boot loader would do the thing! But if you removed some bloatware then you might consider flashing the same firmware you are using again, wiping everything and then rooting it again! And then doing the OTA update!
Making an nandroid backup before reflashing the firmware is required so that you can restore your apps and settings! Many people ran into the problem where ota update wont work even with locked boot loader and they pin pointed removing some system apps or bloatware for it! Well in that case i already suggested you!
If i helped you, hit the thanks button!

How to root Verizon r800x on 2.3.2

Guys I would like to know the easiest way to :
1.Root only
2.Unlock bootoader
3. Install 2.3.4 stock or custom ROM
I have a Verizon r800x on 2.3.2 and I am in India and using this device just as a gaming and multimedia device.
Thanks.
I have gone through a few pages but got confused due to other versions of play and android versions. I have only WiFi on my phone. ( no evdo as not registered yet on any Indian network yet)
1.Root only (super one click)
2.Unlock bootoader (pay method settools)
3. Install 2.3.4 stock or custom ROM (no custom on r800x on 2.3.4 only 2.3.3 plus you cant use GSM GB roms)
1. To root, turn on USB Debugging mode in your phone and use SuperOneClick or Flashtool to root.
2. Unlock the bootloader for free and void your warranty at Sony website: http://unlockbootloader.sonymobile.com/
3. You can install the NXT rom for CDMA play (get it in dev section), its based on stock 2.3.4. May sure you flash the CDMA version.
To flash roms you need to install clockworkmod, use CWM Installer version 5. To boot into CWM press Volume Down while you see the Sony logo.
You do not need an unlocked bootloader to install CWM or the NXT rom, just root.
Thanks guys. Do I need to install Sony drivers to root via superoneclick ?
If yes, can someone give me a link for drivers?
I have adb installed on my computer.
Not sure if this is needed for superoneclick.
Myself I used: DooMLoRD_v4_ROOT-zergRush-busybox-su - And for this version it was needed.
(I think if you do not install them it would not detect your device.)
However here is the link to the adb drivers:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=24883071#post24883071
Download, during installation check the xperia play driver and it should install.
When it asks click: Install anyway.
PS: It is not going to hurt anything having them installed.
Kind regards, Stefan.
You dont need drivers to use superoneclick. Your drivers should've been automatically installed when you plug in your xperia play via usb cable for the first time on any pc. You might already have the drivers installed already.

[Q] Updated to 6.1.A.0.2.55 Can't get to root

I have just updated my Sony Xperia S from 6.1.A.0.2.45 to 6.1.A.0.2.55 via PC companion, after the update I wanted to root my phone again too allow some apps to have root access. As I went to check to see if my phone was rooted I noticed that it wasn't for my apps weren't allowed super user. I then attemted to root via Bin4ry like I did previously in version .45. It didn't work.
I'm wondering if anyone else has had this issue and if it has been resolved without having to unlock the bootloader / install a custom kernel, I don't want to do either of those, I just want root. Has anyone been able to root on .55 on Stock sony ICS firmware .55?

the problem with flashing pre rooted system, is the change in region, ive unlocked then flash recovery nozomi then flash supersu, flash stock kernel.sin, flash cwm, then relocked and deodexed my firmware, and now im reinstalling all mods on my previous rom..hahahaha..cause dont want to change region .
So you think its better unlock BL ?

TrackID works after unlocking and relocking bootloader? I thougt it stops working because of loosing DRM-KEYS while unlocking a bootloader.

Download music info works again if you relock you BL, but TrackID (I think) and FB music likes via Walkman will not work anymore, so it's your decision if you want to lose that functions.
and lose your waranty... for this i rootet with my way...

Xperia Play dont want to be rooted

so... this is my second problem today, the first one was with the FTS, but no its woking~
The problem is the Root. Yeah, the root...
I have tried to root my device using this and others FTS http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=43935357&postcount=2
but dont know why, if i use, for example R800i_4.0.2.A.0.69_World.ftf or R800i_4.0.2.A.0.79.ftf, my device dont accept the root...
BUT, if i use :R800i_4.0.A.2.368_World and other lower version, he accept... anyone know what to do? i'm trying to use DoomLords root, tried every version... help, again!
EDIT: now that i have tihnk for a time... the stock rom that came with the xperia play, acepted the root, so, its 2.3.2? the only problem is that i dont remember some stuffs in the 2.3.2, so i thin it is only 2.3.3 that came with the xperia play whe i buy it...
Already solved the problem.
You can only root devices from 2.3.2 down...
The strange is that I tthink may xperia play came with 2.3.4 and I rooted it before it bricks in boot loop...

you can root 2.3.4 until version 58 (enhanced v3) with locked bootloader. just flash the ftf, boot, enable usb-debugging and mass storage device (instead of mtp at usb-connection) and root it via flashtool.
otherwise unlock your bootloader and install a superuser application in any rom you want. flash the latest firmware (.79), flash custom kernel, install supersu or superuser via cwm and you got the newest firmware rooted.
