It aint a big deal...nothing would happen! More or less you won't be able to update! Relocking the boot loader would do the thing! But if you removed some bloatware then you might consider flashing the same firmware you are using again, wiping everything and then rooting it again! And then doing the OTA update!
Making an nandroid backup before reflashing the firmware is required so that you can restore your apps and settings! Many people ran into the problem where ota update wont work even with locked boot loader and they pin pointed removing some system apps or bloatware for it! Well in that case i already suggested you!
If i helped you, hit the thanks button!

[Q] Anyway to root 4.0.A[...] with locked BL?

I saw a few posts with solutions how to root newest FW (autoroot, root using recovery) but I don't have unlocked BL and I can't unlock it because my phone doesn't fastboot.
So is there a tricky way (I know how to use ADB so I won't have a problem with it if there's a solution using it) how to root newest fw for those with locked BL?
Please, don't offtop if you don't have nothing smart to say.

Yeah but what if we don't want to unlock the bootloader...flashing won't work cuz the update isn't OTA. What is this Recovery mode everyone is talking about?
I don't think you can flash a firmware through recovery AKA clockwork mod
To use recovery aka clock work mod you need to use fastboot to boot recovery play IMG, and flash a custom ROM like Dalvik2Cache

Only way to get root with locked bootloader is by ota if available.
With unlocked bootlaoder you can do by several ways, for example flash pre-rooted DoomLord's kernel.
Thanks for every reply. I don't need root for now, I just wanted to ask if it's possible
BTW newest FW is awesome

Yes you can simple re-flash to 2.3.2 root with gingerbreak and do an OTA update and you'll keep your root running 2.3.3 gingerbread rooted 4.0.A.2.368 R00i with locked bootloader...
You can use the new zergrush exploit, I heard that it works on 2.3.3

hey u can update via SEUS or FOTA (OTA) ONLY IF U ARE HAVING YOUR locked BOOTLOADER otherwise seus won't work and ota will break your phone.....
you can flash ftf files if u are having unlocked BL....
This update needs to be instaled over SEUS (OTA not work this time)
My bootloader is LOCKED
and i have root-ed 2.3.3, rooted with gingerbreak...followed tutorial on this site...
so i can update via SEUS without loosinj ROOT?
Everytime you use SEUS (PC Companion) you will remove root. Because it flashes the phone in much more extent (taking out root) compared to OTA. That's why the OTA retains the root, it just updates modules and does not entirely flash the phone.
For phones with locked bootloaders, the OTA is the way to update with root retained.
and just one question more..
what is best (your oppinions)
2.3.3 rooted
or
2.3.4 un rooted with
xLoud
zoom in picture mod
and more features
Latest 2.3.3 with root and all the features you posted is the best.
2.3.4 isn't out yet...

Stock firmware (by Sony Ericsson)
4.0.A.2.368 - Android 2.3.3 (newest official) (updated launcher, CRT display off animation, theme support, xLOUD, faster boot time, ...)
This update is also available on PC Companion for most users with 3.0.1! (will kill root)
HOW TO GET A ROOTED 4.0:
1. Flash back to 2.3.2 (Arc users: use this file with Flashtool, Neo users: flash to Generic Trade Germany with Wotanserver)
2. Root with Gingerbreak, do not do anything else
3. Update from the phone (Settings -> About -> Software update)
4. Done!
Arc
Available on Wotanserver.com (click for customization list)
Flashtool (LT15i): Generic Global (mirror) -Nordic Telia Branded
Neo
Available on Wotanserver.com (click for customization list)
Flashtool: Hong Kong (not sure if it's generic, I recommend wotanserver if you don't mind losing user data)

The Answer to this question is c l e a r l y NO !
Here's what happened to me provided it may help someone to whom the same occured.
I was rooted 2.3.4 through dataguben's tutorial (flash .184 then .181 then gingerbreak and finish with OTA) Everything was fine then i decided to unlock bootloader to get Cyanogen and test it. Had CM7 running a few days but it doesn't support HDMI and some other stuff regarding camera. Anyway, i decided to get back to STOCKROM but for some reason, the backup i made on recovery would not restore (freezed on SE logo). I flashed back through datagubben's method but on OTA, SuRpRiSe ! ! ! ------> PHONE BRICKED !
So the OTA with unlocked Bootloader BrIcKs the phone.
REMEDY : go to http://www.mediafire.com/?g1b5j712ajx4yjd and download the small 99.8 KB relocking file. Use flashtool to relock your bootloader. Once done you'll reboot on the version you were on just before the OTA bricked the phone. Since now it's impossible to upgrade through OTA the only option left to have ROOTED 2.3.4 is to upgrade through the latest version of SEUS http://dl-www.sonyericsson.com/cws/download/1/110/61/1317636927/Update_Service_Setup-2.11.10.7.exe and go for an upgrade. Once done, plug back your phone to flashtool (USE VERSION 0.4.2 or above) and click on root. Be patient as this requires flashtool to go through TWO steps to ROOT your phone. Your ARC will then reboot and you should have SUPERUSER among your applications.
Thanks to XDA community for all the great tips given here and there to help each other.
PS: If you want one full application that gives sense to a rooted phone's existence, try ROM ToolBox and that's it. It's awesome.

You may consider this as a spam if you like, but if this maximizes the chances for someone who's in trouble with his/her phone to find answers, i don't mind refreshing this. Besides, "out of time & context posts" helped me figure out new directions to repair my phone.

Excatly. Keep the current version and root. .62 doesn't offer any significant advantages.
Hello. I also just got my Arc S, and updated it to .62, even before I thinked that I will maybe want to root it and uninstall blotware. So, can I downgrade to 58. or 42. and then root it? If, yes how can I do this?
Few more questions:
1.How can I check if I have locked or unlocket bootloader?
2.How to root ARC S with 58. or 42. firmware?
3.Can I unroot it after removing unnessesary apps?
Tnx for help, and sorry for bad English.
The simplest way to have root on .62 is while on .42(or if too late - downgrade to .42), root with flashtool, and update over the air. Root remains that way. Don't modify anything in system folder before the update, or it will fail.

Hi, again. So I downgraded to .42, rooted with Flashtool and OTA updated to 62. and root remained. But now I have unlocked the bootloader by fastboot, and Superuser icon in still in the menu and if I conect the phone to Flashtool it says "root access alowed". So did root remained, at unlocking the bootloader, or should I root it again.
Sorry for silly questions, and sorry for bad English.

if you can access superuser(give root permission to specific app eg. root explorer, no frills cpu, etc) then you are rooted.
if you've unlocked BL, do not confirm OTA upgrade anymore!

[Q] Unlock, Root and Relock

Im going to testpoint my phone tomorrow. If i unlock, then apply root. Will this cause any problems for relocking the bootloader ??
EDIT: readed a litle more, need recovery to root .62. Will this cause any issue for the relock process with se1tool ?

Nope rooting will not affect locking bootloader or unlocking bootloader.
But with unlocked bootloader you can apply various roms etc.
If you stay with unlocked bootloader DO NOT UPDATE OVER THE AIR OR YOU WILL BRICK YOUR PHONE

Any guide for applying root on .62 with unlicked bootloader ??
From my sexy LT15i
I'm trying right now the locked bootloader method but I'm a 0% battery bugged Arc user so I first have to inject the battery patch in the firmware. AFAIK you can get to .62 only by OTA updating from .42(keeping root status)... or by PC Companion(losing root status)... but I'm facing some problems(rooted .42, applied patch with doom's modified zergrush rooting mthod): when I want to search for updates OTA(I relocked my bootlaoder) I download the update but when it's installing, it reboots 3 times(after every step) but at step 3 it reboots and says Software update could not isntall. Try Again or something like that.
Later Edit: Check the general section, you have the ICS ftf there and tutorial to root it
No, i dont want to upgrade to ics yet, only testpoint, root .62 and relock

[Q] Updated to 6.1.A.0.2.55 Can't get to root

I have just updated my Sony Xperia S from 6.1.A.0.2.45 to 6.1.A.0.2.55 via PC companion, after the update I wanted to root my phone again too allow some apps to have root access. As I went to check to see if my phone was rooted I noticed that it wasn't for my apps weren't allowed super user. I then attemted to root via Bin4ry like I did previously in version .45. It didn't work.
I'm wondering if anyone else has had this issue and if it has been resolved without having to unlock the bootloader / install a custom kernel, I don't want to do either of those, I just want root. Has anyone been able to root on .55 on Stock sony ICS firmware .55?
