OTA update help! - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I need to update to the latest OTA. I am wondering if I can simply update via a zip file or do I have to get a new ROM in order to get to the most current OTA? Thanks in advance!

Wrong section. Ask in Q&A.

Moved To Q&A. Do Not Post Questions In The Dev Section.

The newest OTA only adds the Sprint Optimizer that uses more battery then it saves.
Aside from this craptastic app there is nothing new that you are missing out on. But if you want this app a simple site search here will find several threads to D\L it from.

Anyway to answer OP question, you root with the same method....regardless of your update. I did however hear that you might need a newer version of su.
Not su 3.0.5 but some other version....don't know where to get it either but maybe someone can help you from here. In summary.....SAME METHOD DIFFERENT SUPERUSER FILE VERSION.

Unroot Sprint Galaxy S3

I am trying to unroot(phone problems) and I am unable to find a link to stock firmware. The links on this site are broken. Can someone point me in the right direction?
I have the same issue. Anyone have a mirror or the files they can upload somewhere?
Have you guys checked this thread out?

Also try installing supersu from the market. Update and update the binaries. Then uninstall the app. According to the dev by simply uninstalling it from the app manager it will cause you to lose root.

I'm uploading it to 4shared, apparently going to take around 13 minutes. It won't show any personal information I assume, correct?

This. We know you (OP) mean well, but people need to search their current baseband and follow the trail of updates out for it before yet another post like this.

OTA update over rooted device?

I was reading that there's an OTA update launching (currently only in Germany), and I was wondering, so i would know in the future, if I could update my rooted S4. Would the software update interfere with root? Will it take it off or what?
I'm on stock rom btw

Most likely you would loose ROOT with an OTA update.
The only way you would not loose root with an OTA update
would be if the update did not contain a kernel.
Good luck!
You can't update if you're rooted. Just wait for the devs to incorporate the update into their roms.

Did some research.
You can update if you have root, but you will lose root, just like the second post said. I use a the stock rom, I don't use any custom roms so I can't depend on your second statement.

If you try to update while rooted, the phone will say updates not available on a modded device.

^^^ what he said
Get the latest firmware from Sammobile, install it via Odin, check the "keep root" option, voilà, now you have the latest stock rooted rom on the block.
