Checking betterbatterystats shows that mediascannerservice is preventing my phone from sleeping under partial wakelocks. How can I fix this?
Fairly Certain that's a signal search.
I get the same thing at work where nobody gets service...
You're probably in an area with bad signal...and not much you can do, really.

My phone gets excellent service here at work and at home, so I know that can't be it. Plus, there's a different section for it under the battery stats.
Reboot. Usually happens to me once in a while. I think its the OS scanning /sdcard for music, pics etc.

I saw this behavior the other day, hopefully this reboot fixes it. Will keep an eye on it and investigate further if need be. Thanks!
It seems that the problem keeps on popping up as mediascannerservice continues to be at the top of my battery usage. Any other tips on how to correct?
This service is killing my battery. I've read that it could be a corrupt media file causing the device to constantly scan for media. I;m just going to delete a bunch of **** and see if that helps, because i haven't found any fixes yet.
I'm experiencing the same issue on both my GSM Gnex and Nexus 7. I don't even really have any media files on either of them at the moment besides the stock ring tones and that sort of thing. I don't know if it's an app misbehaving or what. Pretty annoying, but what I'm doing as a temporary "fix" is going to settings > apps > running and stopping the media process. I need to do this every time I reboot.

Hmmm, if you dont have many media files then maybe thats not the cause at all. Are you running stock android on both?

I'm completely stock but rooted on the Nexus 7, and on the Gnex I'm running Liquidsmooth JB beta 1 with Trinity kernel. Last night I let my Nexus 7 battery drain instead of stopping the media service hoping this issue would stop after it was done scanning, and it did stop after a few hours, but as soon as I rebooted it was back. The only files I can think of that could be corrupt would be my Titanium Backup data (would make sense since I have the same backups on both devices), and I did restore some apps/settings. I may try a full wipe soon and see what happens from there.
You probably have corrupted images/media on the SD. Move all the stuff and test it out.

Let me know if a full wipe fixes it. I'm not in the mood to do all that work atm. I haven't noticed any problems on my N7 just my Gnex.
Edit - also fwiw, my Gnex is having the problem where it thinks it's charging when it's not plugged in and it switches back and forth constantly. im not sure if that would effect the media service.
..
So I ended up doing a full wipe of my Nexus 7 that was experiencing this issue (left everything on the sd card though) and flashed Paranoid Android 1.95a. I then restored all of my apps and app data with TiBu and I'm having no issue with the mediascannerservice wakelock.
Does anyone know about how long mediascannerservice is supposed to run for after each boot? It actually looks like it's running for an hour to an hour and a half on both of my devices (I performed a full wipe and flashed MiNCO rom on my Gnex) and then it stops and everything is good until the next time I reboot. Seems like an hour to an hour and a half is still more time than should be necessary, considering my battery is getting killed during this time. Adding a .nomedia file to the root of my SD card hasn't helped at all either.

I located the files that Media Scanner was trying to scan, they were map tiles (about 60,000 of them) and Media Scanner was ignoring the .nomedia file.
Removed the files and it stopped.
Ran for a week with no problems.
Copied them back and it started again.
Renamed the folders and it stopped cold.
Now I'm waiting to see what happens on the next charge cycle.

I have this problem on my S3 too. Everytime I restart or swap the battery, the mediascannerservice starts and drain my battery.
What is the solution?
Where did u find the .nomedia file?

Hey...
How could you locate the files the mediascanner scanned?

At a glance: I have the impression, that current lag fixes are affecting the GPS performance of our loved toy. Let me explain why.
My GPS-History:
quite poor performance on original XXJF3
upgraded to JG1 and was quite happy with it. Far from perfect but usable
then I applied the Ryanzas lag fix and there the problem started. Loss of sat locks all the time and problem to lock to many sats. I did not think, that this might have something to do with the lag fix. It wouldn't make any sense for me.
upgraded lately to new JPC firmware and gps was quite okay. Not only fast fixes but also good accuracy (but far from perfect).
Now I applied again the lag fix and again had the gps problems mentioned above.
So now the question arises if that's just coincidence or could there be any connection.
What can we do about it?
First we have to make sure that this connection actually exists. Please, everyone who experience these problems check if you installed a lag fix. Try to figure out, what the problems are. Loosing locks, inability to create locks? How many sattelites can you connect to? Track your daily route and check accuracy. Now uninstall/disable your lag fix and do the same checks. Please reply what your outcome was.
What if?
Okay, assuming the lag fix is affecting the gps. How could that be? Of course, I can only guess. First of all, it sounds quite strange, that changes on the file system would affect the gps - but... Maybe the gps kernel driver is blocked somehow by the ext2 kernel module? We can test this by applying the first available lag fix (Krycek) where /data is moved to the nand storage. Search for "Galaxy-S Stalling Issue" to find the thread. It doesn't use an ext2 file system, therefore we can check, if it has anything to do with it.
So everybody please check out if this could be the source of our problems.
UPDATE:
Okay, after 34 votes (7/11/6/10) it seems to get clear, that there is no connection between a lag fix and the gps problems in general. This hypothesis has a statistical probability of 93 percent, which kind of proves it. What is actually interesting is that more than 60% of the voters were using lag fixes. Congrats RyanZa! The sad thing is, that about half of the voters have problems with their gps. Hopefully Samsung does something about it soon that finally fix it.
The lagfixes move some files around, they can't affect your gps.
No GPS problems, no lag fix
(accuracy not perfect but close to my real life location and that is good enough for me)
stock JH2
no lag switching between programs, always have GPS CoPilot8 running, Samsung IM, Samsung Social Hub, Fring, 5 account Emails sync, 3 calendar sync, weather sync, 5 contact sync, music player over bluetooth
all running at the same time

You're right man. It doesn't seem to be logical, I know that. I am dealing for about ten years with linux systems and my claim seems to be plain nonsense. However, the fact is that I (for me) can tell a difference. The only reason I can think of is an interference between the ext2 and the gps kernel drivers. Maybe the process priority of the gps driver is much lower than the fs driver so that the ext2 comes always first and "steals" cpu time.
weird that you mention that...
I was using the gps with success, no problems in acquiring sats signal nor navigating. I have JM2 with samset 1.8 with it's own lagfix.
I even kept the phone in an awkward place, behind my honda's handbrake, far from the front shield's air space.
Then last weekend I applied OCLF directly from the market. Everything went so fine, didnt have to remove the battery after the /data move. And it became a lot faster.
Two days ago I had to use the GPS and it didnt see sats for almost 30 mins. No fix *at all*. I gave up trying to use it had to stop to ask for directions.
I never connected the dots until I saw your thread.
Not really sure there are any dots to connect, guibao. It's a known fact that the GPS lives a life of it's own, and that it often works best right after a factory reset or a firmware flash. I must agree with RyanZA on this one.

I totally agree with you, there should be no relation between gps and lagfix.
But again it went bad after the lagfix. I installed more stuff but nothing related to GPS functions.
Will do some more testing tonite and report later.
The GPS worked fine tonight, but I left it warming a long while before hitting the streets.
Hi I also face this problem before, but able to solve it by recalibrated my compass, just key in *#0*# then click on sensor, hold your phone up site down do a few 8 turns and you must get a reading of 3 on the compass.
Now that you mention this... I know it seems almost irrational to say an ext2/3/4 partition affects GPS performance, but I was "OK" (that's a big word... ) with it on JM1. Then I downloaded OCLF from the Market and everytime my navigator drops the signal or gets stuck on navigation availability query. Bah! I may just guess it has to download the maps somewhere and it fails just like a Market download does sometimes (but I don't know if it's related to my ext partition). Maybe I should just unlagfix my SGS and see what happens.

That looks awesome! Would be cool if every user had this accuracy. Btw, how do you generate screenshots on eclair (2.1) without using adb?
outside lock, lagfixed 2.2 JPC
sometimes i do get a 8 or 9 grey bars that just wont lock on, but a reset of the phone clears that up. bit annoying all the same.
one thing that the graph isn't showing is satellite locks don't seem to last very long, but luckily there are enough of them that the connecting is continuous.

you need to be rooted
I have applied the Epic 4G GPS fix and anywhere outside my phone just refuses to get a decent lock. Every so often It will get a good reception but after moving it disconnects. Although with the new JPC firmware I had flashed the GPS was spot on. Connected instantly and no problems whatsoever with it stuttering or anything.
This is just a theory but there's a strong likelihood that people also update maps after flash and there lies the answer.you must restart phone after running maps for the first time or it will almost never get a lock.also network should be unchecked and rely only on agps.sometimes with network enabled the app can not even start the real gps.
So I'm having an issue w/ my Galaxy Nexus..
Brand new, couple weeks old
Playing Music, phone starts going to a loop, phone hard locks.... Screen goes fuzzy grey
Several times I've come back to my phone and it got stuck in sleep mode. Can't wake it - had to pull battery.
Once in the middle of browsing the web on HSPDA, the phone just froze and I had to pull the battery
Ideas?

My browser froze on me once and I've had to do two battery pulls due to being unable to wake it from sleep mode. The issues were weeks apart though. I do use my phone a lot. All day at work (10 hours a day) I have my phone in front of me, on my desk doing various things like opening web browser, playing music, etc... I can admit that out of the times I use this phone is its relatively uncommon and may be a problem with ICS/Software since this seems to be a common thing.
The Music player does hang or crash - there's a thread about it on here. Its been confirmed it only happens when the sound effects are on tho.
The phone does sometimes go into a sleep of death, and only a battery pull fixes it.
Some website do crash the browser and it reboots.
Various combinations of use do crash the phone corrupting the display, and the only way to restart is to pull the battery.
Having said all that, it sounds like you might have another issue. If its easy to get it replaced, then get it replaced. You might have a defective main board or something. If not, try a factory wipe without installing anything just as a sanity check.

Based on what you said - I think I'm just experiencing common issues.. What makes you think the phone may be actually defective?
I'm kind of pressing this because what I do not want to happen is spend days without my phone to get a new one only to find it has the same issue or is not brand-new (and inadvertently gives me a ****ty phone)
How is Samsung about RMAs? Any cross-shipping options anyone knows about? I can't check right now, but Im going to give them a call and check their site later tonight from home.
Honestly I had massive reboots and freezes happen on me to but then it turned out I had some apps on my phone that were not compatible with ics yet and I just uninstall them and no more crashes.
This phone has some bugs its early days. I don't think you will have much luck with Samsung its not apple

I've owned the phone day one and no reboots. I listen to music often and no crashes. I didn't tinker with anything though. I heard the music settings cause reboots.
Try a factory reset and not screwing with it.
The music app may have a bug with ICS. Not a big deal. Doubt the phone is defective as it sounds like a software bug. Try using another music player as a test, but I like the lock screen music controls of stock.
Galaxy Nexus - 4.0.3 CM9
Asus Transformer - 3.2 Revolver
Well since making this post the phone has not hard locked in the music player
While using the Facebook for Android App though, it suddenly rebooted while poking around...
This is kind of weird. Its not being very consistent lol
I've been monitoring the phones boot patterns and I found something that makes this phone reboot consistently
I will have Google music streaming over 3G/H...I open a program/app called "Trapster" (if you dont know what this is.. its basically a Map with an overlay of known hiding spots for speed cameras/cops)
if i have those 2 apps open the phone reboots within a minute or two - i think its heat related as the screen is ridiculously hot
Musi player bug
My phone also crashed when listening to music, but only happens when I try changing the "Sound Effects" settings in the a stock player. Tried EStrong player and no problems at all (however, there's no settings). And on my Sensation (with ICS on it - XE ROM) it will CF after 10 sec of playing...
Interesting...
Seen this twice now... Totally stock, not even rooted. Was typing a text message. Froze up and then screen slowly started to morph into this funky image. Battery pulled, rebooted and all is good again. I've barely ever touched the music player so far.

You must have been ready with a camera because I see that for 5-10 seconds before my screen just turns off... that exact "look" or image is what I see on my screen as the phone crashes/locks up.... if you leave it long enough it goes to solid white then blanks out after 30 seconds or so.... and the phone remains dark until I pull the battery.
Since my last post though, 6 days ago... I've been vigorously using the Music player along with other items trying to induce crashing and it hasn't happened. It is definitely inconsistent but I have been changing settings around. I made it so the music app doesn't stream data now(use offline songs only) and it seems to have 100% stopped it from crashing so it seems... And I mean I have music running all day at work (12 hour days) and I have it running in the car with navigation... no crashes for almost a week
I've been thinking about rooting it since I really thing what I'm experiencing is a software issue. It seems regularly rebooting my nexus has stopped all the issues I'm having.
Just to update this thread
I never replaced my phone. Heeding the advice of many saying it was a bug, I ended up rooting my phone and flashing several different ROMs. Since my last post and first ROM flashed, I have not had a single crash/lock/reset or even so much as to an unexpected reboot. Phone has zero problems after getting off the stock ROM.
Its been more than 2 weeks since I have this S6 Edge+ and so far, I love the design and software. There is no lag so far, no matter which application/game I threw at it... However, from time to time, I have encountered quite a few bugs in the device which I would mention below. It would be helpful if somebody else too confirms that they have witnessed these. Actually all of them went away with a normal restart, so I have my doubts if any of you have noticed any so far...
So, here's the list:-
1. First time when I connected my phone via USB to my PC, I selected MTP (The option appears when you connect the USB cable to a PC) and I was unable to browse through any of the files. That was weird because once I selected Camera (PTP), I was able to see all the files. I tried again with MTP and it was same, so I just continued with PTP instead to copy the files I needed to.
After that day, I didn't connect my USB until today and it worked just fine today (I was able to see files through MTP). Although I have restarted my phone several times between then and now, so not sure what fixed it or broke it in the first place.
2. A couple of days back (probably last Friday), I was watching a video on facebook browser and I turned the phone to landscape mode. However, the video or the browser didn't turn. I thought it could be due to any facebook app issue, so I switched to normal browser (Open in Chrome option) and yet again the browser won't tilt. I closed it and opened the official YouTube app and tried a video and strangely that didn't work either. At this point, I was mad. I tried all other apps, nothing was working. I did try turning Auto-Tilt on/off several times during this but nothing worked. I just restarted my phone as a last resort and it started working just fine. Didn't have any issue till date.
3. I use CloudMagic app for my corporate email. Yesterday when I received a mail, I just got a notification on lock screen. I swiped it away. Later, when I unlocked the phone, I saw that there was still a notification from the app. When I dragged down the notification bar, I saw that there is a blank space left for the notification and the other notifications are displayed after that blank space. And no matter what I did or try, the notification simply wouldn't go away. I even selected CloudMagic from Application Manager and selected Force Stop which should have practically stopped everything related to that app but the notification still didn't go. So, I'm assuming this is not application issue, this could be some notification manager issue with S6E+. Here's a screen cap from that day:-

4. This one happened today and it was quite irritating too. I went to Developer Options -> Animator duration scale -> Animation scale 10x. After this, you would realize that all the animations would become very slow. You can try tapping on Recent button and see all the recent apps open up at slo-mo. I did that to beat the Android Lollipop Easter Egg game. After that, when I changed it back to 0.5x or 1x, the Animation rate wouldn't change. I tried doing it couple of times. Tried turning off Developer Options and turning back on but it didn't work. The animations were so slow for every application till I restarted the phone. After restart though, it worked fine.
5. Well, this one isn't a bug I'm sure but this isn't curable using a restart. The screen of the Edge+ is highly sensitive, so even if I tap to touch, sometimes it just registers the touch as touch n hold and hence the tap action isn't performed. This is visible in games like "Clash of Clans" where I would have to click multiple times on Resource Generators (Gold Mine & Elixir Mine) to take out the generated deposit when the zoom level is at minimum. I've seen another post from a user who reported the same issue. Game just happened to be one of the examples to witness this issue.
I'm not really annoyed with any of the above bugs and given the chance, I would still buy the S6 Edge+. I can even live with all the above bugs (if they are bugs at all), as long as they're fixed with a restart.
Just want to know if you guys had any of such issues yet ? or may be noticed some other bug in the system yet ?
Hi.
I've been using the Edge Plus for about 5 days and the only bug that happened to me was the blank notification, I solved it myself by restarting the phone, it is important to mention that this only happened once.

I know, it happened only once for me too. However, its been just 2 weeks since the phone has released, which isn't a very long time to see this issue repeating. Let's hope it doesn't.
I have the phone for 2½ weeks now and what I have noticed is that sometimes it will not awake from deep sleep so screen will remain blank even though I have pressed the home button and then action will be initiated after sometime.. Don't know why but sometimes just happens, maybe once a day during last week.. All apps I have installed are the ones I always using and none of them is like non trusted etc

quit frustrating i must say :s but ho well
Love mine! But I have two things. Every now and then when I turn the screen on the phone freezes for like 7 seconds or so. It doesn't bother me that much since it only happens once every other day.
The second thing is that when I connect my phone to via Bluetooth to my cars audios yster to listen to music. Everything is studdering and lagging so bad I can't listen to it. Then I need to disconnect and reconnect a few times and if I'm lucky it will work. Today though I connected (and it was bad) but then I used the smart cleaning app on the phone and after that it worked fine for the rest of my trip. Might be some cache from some app that's causing this. I'm going to try to use the smart cleaning app a few days in a row now when I'm connecting the phone to see if that helps, I hope so.

These sound worse than what I mentioned above. Luckily never happened with me, otherwise I probably would have got it replaced by now.

And mine keeps sending "crash reports", don't know why - and I have no clue how to check whats happening - as it just says "sending report..." etc.. and then goes away

Yeah. I did a factory reset yesterday (first one for me on this phone) and now there is no issue at all when it comes to connecting to my car. Haven't experienced any freezes as well but that's to early to say I guess.

Good to hear that. However, we can't just depend on Factory Reset every time something like this shows up...
Device G9287 . Lock your screen with pattern and then double press the camera button and open it.You will see blue line scanning your phone and the phone becomes unresponsive.Press back button and click home button thrice and then phone becomes responsive and you can draw the pattern and it will accept it.
Just got that bug some one said about the when the phone is locked and you touch it, the screen just stays black
The 'night clock' seems to take a hell of a lot of battery.
I woke up the other night after having it on from 11pm-7am with nearly 40% drain with 'android system' being kept awake for 12 hours - Can only assume it was the clock that's doing this.
I cleared the cache, no better, factory reset - Bit better, but still seeing a 20% drain over night with almost no apps installed since I got it (I like to make sure everything's working as expected before installing everything).

That's with the night clock. I'm going to leave it off completely tonight and see how it behaves.

Do let us know.. I never kept night clock on and my battery drain is about 3% throughout the night if I keep wifi & mobile data off.

Since the upgrade to MM, I've had weird pseudo-crashes on my phone. The phone will suddenly get really hot in my pocket and vibrate once. When I try to use it again it has apparently rebooted because it won't take my fingerprint and asks for a backup password just like after a reboot. However, when I go into about device>status, the up-time hasn't started over like it would on a reboot. This phone is running stock unrooted MM that I upgraded OTA.
I have three questions:
1. Is this happening to most people running stock MM?
2. Is this possible a poorly behaving app or is it a bug in the update
3. Any suggestions on how to track it down and fix this other than doing a factory wipe and restore.
I really don't want to do the factory wipe because it will take quite some time to put things back the way they were.
Thanks for the suggestions

Edit: And just after I posted this I received an update to PD1. Supposedly a security update, but maybe it will help with the crashes too.

It's very random and mine has been doing the same thing since the MM update. I wish now I hadn't done the update because for awhile, it was rebooting twice an hour. Since uninstalling the iHeart app, it's not doing it as often but still at least once or twice a day. And it's not just the Samsung devices. I've seen Nexus as well as other owners reporting the same problem.
I think I've wiped the system cache a hundred times now and wiped the apps cache repeatedly too. It doesn't help. And there's no rhyme or reason to it. Also, people who have done factory resets report that the problem does NOT go away. In a couple forums, people who returned their phones and had the motherboards replaced claimed the problem stopped, but I have a hard time believing that thousands of us would need to do that.
Sucks when I'm on a business call!!

I've taken to manually killing apps a few times a day, it might be my imagination but it seems like it's helping. I've noticed that even after a reboot there will still be tons of apps in the recently used apps screen. Maybe this is a memory management or system resource issue.

I've tried killing aps, I've tried setting Do Not keep activities on, neither helps this issue. My suspicion is a baldy behaving app. perhaps BeyondPod.
I've moved to the beta version of Beyondpod which claims to have some fixes for Marshmallow. Still grasping at straws.
I've never had very much luck with 'dirty' updates. Either via OTAs or direct ODIN flashing. Have you tried completely wiping the phone and restoring?
I have a Sprint Note Edge (SM-N915P) and I was having a similar issue. Turned out to be a conflict between a manual change I had made to the system and an automatic one. I went ahead and did a clean reload of the phone even after I figured out the issue and it is running a LOT better.
I've been having constant reboots since I upgraded to MM. People keep telling me it's a hardware issue, but I never had this trouble UNTIL the upgrade. Since then... nothing but headaches and trouble.
Well, the problem wasn't Beyondpod. another thing that keeps crashing is Apex Launcher which hasn't had an update since June 2015. Maybe not MM compliant. Replaced it with Nova, lets see if that makes a difference.
I started getting this when I got my phone. It happened on LL 5.0.1, but didn't go away after updating to 5.1.1, after rooting, after removing all the bloatware, etc. I noticed that it happened a lot more frequently when I had the Samsung Messages application open. Like you, I tried wiping the cache partition, etc. Wiping the app cache for Messages really seemed to help, but only temporarily.
My sister's phone, also N910P, was fine until 5.1.1; then the same thing started happening to her.
I finally did a full wipe and flashed a fresh stock OS. It took me an entire Saturday, and lost me my root, but I highly recommend it. This phone is too good to be brought down by some sort of OS glitch. Now I've gotten the OTA, though, so I have to wait for a PD1 root.

Well, I gave up and did a full factory wipe through recovery (3 times data and 3 time cache just for good measures). I allowed google to reinstall all the apps, and restored most of the app data using Helium. Not too confident that it helped because I kept getting the same type of crash while restoring helium data. It took most of the day to restore things and it's still not totally back to normal.
I have the same problem when I did the OTA update but first I thought I have a problem with my phone only me so I odin flashed PD1 and since then my phone is stuck at "installing system update" after odin flash. I took out the battery and anytime I switch my phone on it boots to recovery mode. Any help please? Would appreciate it. Can't use my phone.
Well, a full factory reset didn't help either. Thinking this is either an app that doesn't like MM, a bug in this implementation of MM, or my phone developed a fault at the exact same time it upgraded to MM.
Anyway, since it seems to happen most often either during or after I have listened to podcasts I'm going to switch podcast managers from BeyondPod to Podcast Addict. Did I mention I'm grasping at straws here?

my wife's phone has been acting up as well. I WAS an experienced flasher and all things android but i have since switched to iphone and now everything feels like a foreign language. She has Sprint N910P on MM 6.0.1 everything stock. Her phone will randomly reboot and it will completely shut off as if it died around 38%. I was going to try to root it and flash a new rom and/or kernel but I've read that's not working for some so Im at a loss on what to do or try.

You may have two different issues. The phone dying at 38% is often a sign of a worn out battery. It was with mine.
I've still been fighting the random reboots, although I haven't had one in 2 days now. (I probably just jinxed myself.) For me it seems to somehow be related to listening to music/podcasts via bluetooth. Still leaning towards thinking it's a wonky app that isn't properly written for MM.

Well i am really upset now. I started having this problem about a month ago. I was on ob7 5.01. It SEEMED to be related to google play services. I downgraded the service and things seemed better. But my apps needed the upgrade so i decided to just jump into mm. So even thoughboth Google and Samsung were suppose to be backing up my text mags i lost all of them. That would be fine if my problem went away but it dud not. Random reboots random freezes. Sometimes i take the battery out Causey it is locked up and it won't turn on at all or if it does it stays at the note 4 screen.
I am so annoyed is there anyway to find out what is the problem?

Possible if you didn't delete the Android folder coming from Lollipop; I'd suggest both Android folders be deleted but you should also wipe data and internal too (rooted users should read the 3rd paragraph). Many reported factory reset after MM update cured a lot of problems. ItsOn is so prevalent and pervasive, I'm thinking Lollipop remnants of ItsOn can pose problems for even un-rooted users. Need a clean break from Lollipop.
This thread is for un-rooted users (the remainder of post applies to rooted users) but one thing I found happening to some rooted users is remnants of ItsOn causing reboots if not coming to MM cleanly.
The ItsOn apk in /carrier/ItsOn will cause issues if rooted users factory reset and don't wipe data and internal.
(/ is root menu; a current rooted ROM or rooting stock may not remove these but possibly will on future ROMs; if you fully activate stock and not wipe data and internal memory, these remain and will continually try to reboot the phone to establish the ItsOn bootstrapper but the phone says it needs to reboot to complete activation).
Rather deceptive. But ItsOn and Knox just don't play nice with root; they have to go.

If you see this in hidden menu, it's an indicator you need to check for ItsOn and wipe. If you're wondering if you've activated ItsOn, check /data/local/tmp for an ItsOn log. Developers remove ItsOn but think about what you do after flashing a stock tar, boot and activate phone. ItsOn is a done deal at that point. Just wipe when rooting again.

Mine does it too. Just freezes then reboots randomly. I think it has to do with the sd card because when i unmount it i have no problem. I'm stock pe1. If anyone has a solution i would appreciate it.
Hi!
I own an SM-F926B/DS since April with latest updates, and the last couple of months it randomly reboots. Some times reboots without asking SIM PIN, some other times reboots asking SIM PIN, some other times it keeps rebooting and I have to press the side button to make it functional again. Most of the times, the phone is hot on the back. I don't have to use the phone, some times it has rebooted just when I pick it up from the table. There is not a specific pattern, at least from what I can tell, some times 2-3 days will pass without any reboots, some other times a couple of times per day, some other times it goes to a reboot loop. Some times, the phone freezes (usually in Chrome or in settings menu), or some random applications do not open.
I tried removing some apps which I installed the period I noticed the problem, but it didn't make any difference.
I understand that I must do a factory reset, but I'm trying to find other ways to debug the problem before doing this, because I have many apps with many settings and it will take me forever to reinstall them. also, by just restoring a previous backup after a factory reset, I'm afraid that probably I will restore the problem too.
Have you any other advises? Perhaps a way to log the state when the phone tries to reboot or which application requests it?
Are there any others with similar problems?
Thank you.
.
I have had the same problem. Ses after the last update it don't seem to be happening now.
I had a random reboot problem back in July and it was the Facebook Messenger app that caused it after an update they did. When they updated it again, the problem stopped. The app also had been eating battery like crazy during that time. So, I'd start with looking at what apps got updated at the time it began happening as well as see if any are killing your battery.
Sounds like a badly behaving app eating battery and CPU to the point it's getting turned off. I would start with usage stats and battery stats whenever this happens and see what's going on in the background and start there.
Thank you for your help.
As I have said, the phone has all the latest updates, so it is not an outdated app or OS issue. Also, I have hundreds of apps installed, taking 10 updates daily, so it is impossible to track down which app might have caused the issue two months ago.
The phone does not turn off, it reboots. This way I can't find the app which may consumes more battery. The only thing that could help and I have not already mentioned, is that in most cases I see issues related to "Google Play Services" like excessive battery usage or stopped responding.

It has nothing to do with an app being outdated, but that when they updated it, they coded something wrong. You can try to track which one by looking at which apps consume too much battery in the Settings. Rebooting does not change that stat at all, and rebooting is what it did when Facebook Messenger caused my problem back in July.

The usual suspect is Google Play Services. In device care I see different apps crashing daily, not the same.

My Google Play Services are currently 1.5 and 0.3% (Secure Folder and regular one), so that's not excessive battery use for that. When Messenger caused me issues, it was like 40% or something. It also never crashed.
I tried a diagnostic log app, but it doesn't work to capture random reboots. I just had to wait until they updated the app, which I think was about a week after it started. It mostly happened while I wasn't using my phone.
Hmm.
Last week I eventually did a factory reset. After selecting language for the initial setup, the phone entered a reboot loop again, so it was obvious that it wasn't a software issue. I proceeded with the setup, but without restoring any applications. The phone did some reboots again.
I contacted local customer support, and when I went there they connected the phone to their software and they were able to see in the log files some kernel panicks, memory errors and boot loops since the factory reset. They told me that if I hadn't reset the phone, they would be able to see all the problems since the beginning.
They told me that they have to change the main board, and after two days I got my phone back. This happened on Friday, today is Monday and everything seems fine (I crossed my fingers). I reinstalled everything including applications from Samsung Cloud.

Oh wow, what a hassle! Glad the phone seems to be working well now, though! That's crazy that it rebooted that early in the setup process. Did you have to pay for the fix?
No, it was covered by guarantee, the phone is less than 6 months old.
