When the Arc first came out I got one and to be honest, hated it. Too slow, FC's galore and lots of other random problems. I bought a Galaxy s2 and apart from it's ugliness, been pretty happy.
Now the new Arc S has a faster processor and FF camera so I'm thinking about going for one of them. Has anyone else made a similar move? What's your opinions on the S model in general over the standard arc?

The original arc has been perfectioned a lot with the latest updates.
I think it won´t differ a lot from the arc S.
And don´t worry about speed, because with android ice cream the UI will be rendered by the GPU.

I think you got a defective unit in the first place.
If i were you, I would wait for Sony Ericsson ‘Aoba’ & ‘Nozomi’ 1.5GHz dual-core phones. 1.5GHz dual-core smartphone with Adreno 220 graphics and a 1280 x 720 pixel display (true HD resolution).
Thanks for your replies. It woiuld make sense to wait til the dual core but it would be nice to have a good looking phone again...
keyword : keep up with the updates.
when arc first came out, it has 2.3.2 preinstalled. several updates later, now we are at 2.3.4.. lots of diference. better performance, better batery life, lots of new features... everything is a lot better then 2.3.2.
btw, last time i check arc s doesn't have a FF camera
squalldua - you're right no FF camera on Arc S.. it's basically an arc with a faster processor.

I agreed.
Do you think SE will stay with this design and upgrade the hardware inside with better processor and gpu? (like what they did with Arc S with processor upgrade).
I will sure get one dual core and upgraded gpu SE phone in future. I see the rumour dual core design is kinda ugly. I like the arc beauty design very much already.

How do you make video calls without a FF camera? That's one of the features that they said is different about the S? Would you say the S would be as fast as the Galaxy s2 with the new processor?
> How do you make video calls without a FF camera? That's one of the features that they said is different about the S? Would you say the S would be as fast as the Galaxy s2 with the new processor?
You CAN make video calls because even if there is no front camera. Use the back camera, use a mirror, or whatever resorcefulness you can think of.
Galaxy S2 is dual core and of different architecture (it is not Qualcomm / Adreno combo). So you cannot just compare it in that manner. It depends on your use. For instance on my Arc, I even downclock to 600+ Mhz and I am happy with the performance.
The whole idea of video calling is that you can see each other while you are talking and using a mirror to be able to do that is just stupid. I'll stick with the s2
Neo has front camera, and same spec as arc otherwise.. If that's important to you?

I like trying different phones and owned a sgs2, sensation and evo 3d recently. I have never tried Sony Ericsson before and thought will give it a shot. I bought the Xperia arc yesterday from Amazon USA since the arc s is not available here still. I have to say i'm impressed by how light it feels and also has great looks. I'm also impressed by the display even compared to super amoled plus in sgs2. This one is more realistic display than the amoled one. But on the hardware side its a letdown. I didn't even know that this doesn't have a front facing camera until I read here
I mean cmon that is basic in 2011, anyway I don't use video calls so doesn't bother me that much.
Sony Ericsson has great potential if only they can keep up to pace with HTC and Samsung on the spec side.
Hopefully the dual core phones from Sony release before the quad core phones start coming out.

Why do you even need a dualcore let alone a quadcore ??
Im very satisfied with single core on my Arc ...

Because I see the difference of speed, performance on stock sgs2 or even sense bloated sensation to an extent. Also why not have the dual core when it is available for quite a while now? Its not going to harm you in any away. If we go by your logic then why is Sony releasing dual core phones at all?
Don't get me wrong this is a nice phone but lacks a little power that's it.

I said it is surprising to see a flagship Android device from a company not have front facing camera in 2011. I said it doesn't bother me because I don't use it, but it is good to have cuz you never know it may come handy some day.
Again if you are happy with the phone with single core that is fine ...I was just saying that Sony Ericsson should be little early into the game in terms of specs if they have to compete for global sales with HTC and Samsung.

i am interested to buy one of these and both of them falls in the same price, i do not care abut the cam since i have a digicam to handle and i do play games but i am not a hardcore gamer, so which do you guys suggest.
please dont suggest me any other phones
good idea man
If i were you, i would buy an Arc S, or else just the Arc
If you don't feel like playing a lot of games than the Arc will just do.
You can check here for more info

any major differences between the two
Game controlls and thickness
I'd go with Arc as it's thinner and fits better into the pocket of jeans.

The Arc S and Arc or?
w w w.compare-cellphones.org/Sony-Ericsson-Xperia-arc-S-vs-Sony-Ericsson-Xperia-arc
definitely arc
mate, i would go with the arc. The arc s is not much different in my opinion from the arc (in terms of hardware) and its not really worth the price jump. i bought one for myself and my father (senior geek). im also going to upgrade my brother from x10 to arc.
iv had no trouble with it at all
I'd recommend the Xperia Arc S (LT18i).
It hasn't that much hardware changes, but in my opinion 30 $ for a better cpu and HSPA+ (Rel. 6 - 14,4 Mbit/s) is the money worth.
But you wanted to suggest Xperia Arc (LT15i) or Xperia Play (R800i), so I'd recommend the Arc, if you're not that hardcore gamer.
hi, i just installed GTA III on my arc L15i, lags like hell, searched for fixes and installed one, lag is little bit less but still lags, tried overclocking cpu to 1.4 but still lags.
why?
Try V6 Supercharger and a couple of speed tweaks and see if the issue is still there.
My GTAIII is completely lag free.
GTAIII is litlle lagy..
My gtaiii lags when rain fall..but this is completly game for PC, not so much ported realy for PHONE...
only litlle modified..so be happy to run it anyway

Really? Have you V6 Supercharger installed?
I don't notice any lag except I have to much MODs (since 90% of all PC' MODs works for Android too ) running.
yea supercharghed :/
Version 1.0 is run great but not lag free ,u still can notice some lag.
Version 1.2 is lag like hell.
Sorry guys, then I cant help you too.
Maybe because I've a Arc S, but that shouldn't matter if you overclock to 1,4 GHz.
I just found out it runs good on iPod Touch 4G AND IT HAS AN 800Mhz CPU, there is little little lag in it but still runs good, WWWHHHYYY!!!

If they do the game for iOS they can optimize it much betterm as there are much less iOS devices than Android devices.
So it's more optimized for your iTouch than for your Arc.
Best GTA III experience do you get on the iPad 2. Believe me, buttery smooth.
But I don't game much, just bougt it to look at it and play a little sometimes.

You can also delete the audio folder, or just delete the radio only
To delete the radio only, go to the audio folder, sort by largest files, and then don't delete the largest, but delete the 11 or 9 ( not sure ) files following than

The game is for Dual Core Phones, But it is also optimized to run on Xperia Play, and Only Xperia Play have Dual Channel Ram running @ 300mhz, that's why Playing games on Xplay is smoother than Arc or any 2011 Xperia out there

Okay, that's right, but every Arc or Arc S could play it quite smooth with some tweaks.
I'm not having any issue with stock GTAIII, and I've already seen a colleague with the SGS2 with more issues than me.
Future phones really need dual core processors, but imo current devices don't need it (I'm not talking about 2012 devices).
PS: I'm only posting my opinion, so don't come with some "you're a idiot" like in this very other thread.

thanks, but i guess the logical explaination is i fail to realised thats its laging
or maybe because i use link2sd for all my apps, kept ROM usage as low as posible..delete the catch often and kill all process before playing
Stock, no cpu changes, runs fine except when rain falls

Which one is better ? they are at the same price here in israel..
Arc s has bigger screen, better cam, faster processor, and better battery but on the other hand the Sola is duel core and has a fron-facing cam which the Arc S lacks.
which phone should i get ?
thanks.
At the end of day the decision is based on what you like... if you choose a phone that someone thinks is better and you choose that phone you'll probably wont like it
okay but the q's is what is better preformance wise ?
http://geekaphone.com/compare/Sony-Xperia-Sola-vs-Sony-Ericsson-Xperia-arc-S
There's a comparison site, all in all, the processor makes the phone a lot faster, and whilst the Arc S is fast, the Sola has a faster processor due to it having two cores
I'd say Sola, but I own an Arc and I'm happy with it
Yes I was facing the same problem with this 2 phones...but I went with arc s ...and I am very happy ...its just as u said the sola is dual core and has front camera .I did not need this so I chose arc s...
Which one you buy depends on ur needs ...
Sent from my Arc S using xda premium
Thanks guys !
I think that i'll go with the Arc because of its faster processor (Arc S is faster than my current duel cored atrix 4G) and beastly camera !
If i wont have the money then i'll go with the sola (or if the sola gets ICS).
go for xperia go its for almost the same price tag
but better than both especially arc s
The arc does not have a faster processor, the Sola does, due to it having duel cores!
At least I think that's how it works haha, shares the workload between the cores, less work for the single core to do
The go cost a lot more here...
What is your opinion, which one is better and why?
I can buy one or another for the same price
I know Xperia U has a Dual Core 1Ghz but it's more un-stable(Many Xperia U have problems with touch etc...) and has smaller screen
So what do you think?

I think that the Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc S it´s better than the Sony Xperia U.
The xperia Arc S has better battery, better camera and it´s bigger than the Xperia U.
