I managed to root my arc these days, and now that i have access to everything, and truly understand how effective 200MHz is, i was impressed by how simplified its UI is, i promised my parents that i will not buy another phone for at least 3 years from the day I buy the Arc (cuz i broke many other nokia phones), but I may not be able to keep my promise and buy the Xperia duo, cuz when i decreased 200MHz from the CPU the phone was performing Slow, so the dualcore of the Duo must fly running I mean perform as twice as my arc, when arc is really fast.
This is my first thread i write in this website, so Sorry if its a little strange
Sorry, but why do you decrease the clockspeed?
Just use it @ 1GHz and enjoy it for 3 years

I want more Sony involvement with Sony Ericsson. Otherwise, my next mobile phone will be from SHARP.
When the Arc first came out I got one and to be honest, hated it. Too slow, FC's galore and lots of other random problems. I bought a Galaxy s2 and apart from it's ugliness, been pretty happy.
Now the new Arc S has a faster processor and FF camera so I'm thinking about going for one of them. Has anyone else made a similar move? What's your opinions on the S model in general over the standard arc?

The original arc has been perfectioned a lot with the latest updates.
I think it won´t differ a lot from the arc S.
And don´t worry about speed, because with android ice cream the UI will be rendered by the GPU.

I think you got a defective unit in the first place.
If i were you, I would wait for Sony Ericsson ‘Aoba’ & ‘Nozomi’ 1.5GHz dual-core phones. 1.5GHz dual-core smartphone with Adreno 220 graphics and a 1280 x 720 pixel display (true HD resolution).
Thanks for your replies. It woiuld make sense to wait til the dual core but it would be nice to have a good looking phone again...
keyword : keep up with the updates.
when arc first came out, it has 2.3.2 preinstalled. several updates later, now we are at 2.3.4.. lots of diference. better performance, better batery life, lots of new features... everything is a lot better then 2.3.2.
btw, last time i check arc s doesn't have a FF camera
squalldua - you're right no FF camera on Arc S.. it's basically an arc with a faster processor.

I agreed.
Do you think SE will stay with this design and upgrade the hardware inside with better processor and gpu? (like what they did with Arc S with processor upgrade).
I will sure get one dual core and upgraded gpu SE phone in future. I see the rumour dual core design is kinda ugly. I like the arc beauty design very much already.

How do you make video calls without a FF camera? That's one of the features that they said is different about the S? Would you say the S would be as fast as the Galaxy s2 with the new processor?
> How do you make video calls without a FF camera? That's one of the features that they said is different about the S? Would you say the S would be as fast as the Galaxy s2 with the new processor?
You CAN make video calls because even if there is no front camera. Use the back camera, use a mirror, or whatever resorcefulness you can think of.
Galaxy S2 is dual core and of different architecture (it is not Qualcomm / Adreno combo). So you cannot just compare it in that manner. It depends on your use. For instance on my Arc, I even downclock to 600+ Mhz and I am happy with the performance.
The whole idea of video calling is that you can see each other while you are talking and using a mirror to be able to do that is just stupid. I'll stick with the s2
Neo has front camera, and same spec as arc otherwise.. If that's important to you?

I like trying different phones and owned a sgs2, sensation and evo 3d recently. I have never tried Sony Ericsson before and thought will give it a shot. I bought the Xperia arc yesterday from Amazon USA since the arc s is not available here still. I have to say i'm impressed by how light it feels and also has great looks. I'm also impressed by the display even compared to super amoled plus in sgs2. This one is more realistic display than the amoled one. But on the hardware side its a letdown. I didn't even know that this doesn't have a front facing camera until I read here
I mean cmon that is basic in 2011, anyway I don't use video calls so doesn't bother me that much.
Sony Ericsson has great potential if only they can keep up to pace with HTC and Samsung on the spec side.
Hopefully the dual core phones from Sony release before the quad core phones start coming out.

Why do you even need a dualcore let alone a quadcore ??
Im very satisfied with single core on my Arc ...

Because I see the difference of speed, performance on stock sgs2 or even sense bloated sensation to an extent. Also why not have the dual core when it is available for quite a while now? Its not going to harm you in any away. If we go by your logic then why is Sony releasing dual core phones at all?
Don't get me wrong this is a nice phone but lacks a little power that's it.

I said it is surprising to see a flagship Android device from a company not have front facing camera in 2011. I said it doesn't bother me because I don't use it, but it is good to have cuz you never know it may come handy some day.
Again if you are happy with the phone with single core that is fine ...I was just saying that Sony Ericsson should be little early into the game in terms of specs if they have to compete for global sales with HTC and Samsung.

i am interested to buy one of these and both of them falls in the same price, i do not care abut the cam since i have a digicam to handle and i do play games but i am not a hardcore gamer, so which do you guys suggest.
please dont suggest me any other phones
good idea man
If i were you, i would buy an Arc S, or else just the Arc
If you don't feel like playing a lot of games than the Arc will just do.
You can check here for more info
w w w.compare-cellphones.org/Sony-Ericsson-Xperia-PLAY-vs-Sony-Ericsson-Xperia-arc
any major differences between the two
Game controlls and thickness
I'd go with Arc as it's thinner and fits better into the pocket of jeans.

The Arc S and Arc or?
w w w.compare-cellphones.org/Sony-Ericsson-Xperia-arc-S-vs-Sony-Ericsson-Xperia-arc
definitely arc
mate, i would go with the arc. The arc s is not much different in my opinion from the arc (in terms of hardware) and its not really worth the price jump. i bought one for myself and my father (senior geek). im also going to upgrade my brother from x10 to arc.
iv had no trouble with it at all
I'd recommend the Xperia Arc S (LT18i).
It hasn't that much hardware changes, but in my opinion 30 $ for a better cpu and HSPA+ (Rel. 6 - 14,4 Mbit/s) is the money worth.
But you wanted to suggest Xperia Arc (LT15i) or Xperia Play (R800i), so I'd recommend the Arc, if you're not that hardcore gamer.
Is it worth getting an arc s, a single core phone now or should i buy a dual core only?? I am getting arc s at a pretty good price and it has cm9 or ics too
Questions go in the Q&A section

Go For XPERIA Sola.
it depends on whether you want a single processor with high frequency(1.4Ghz) or dual processor with low frequency(1Ghz)..obv dual core will perform btr in multitasking but still in arc s u will get big screen.very nice android supports and obv great looks
thanks for the suggestions guys, i got some extra cash and went for xperia s only!!:victory::victory::laugh:
mod, thanks for moving the thread, you can now close it
What is your opinion, which one is better and why?
I can buy one or another for the same price
I know Xperia U has a Dual Core 1Ghz but it's more un-stable(Many Xperia U have problems with touch etc...) and has smaller screen
So what do you think?
P.S This question is also posted on Xperia U forum

I think that the Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc S it´s better than the Sony Xperia U.
The xperia Arc S has better battery, better camera and it´s bigger than the Xperia U.
