I took my stock AT&T tab and wiped it then flashed Roto JME-4. When I rebooted, I had a black screen for about 60 seconds, with a skinny white line, and I could hear the samsung music. After about 1.5 minutes, I pressed the power key, and screen went totally black - no line. Then I pushed power again, and everything was normal after that, unless I rebooted.
Anyway, here is it fix:
1) go to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=899196 and download the jj4bootloader.zip file
2) use odin to flash the unzipped jj4 file. It goes in PDA and nothing else in any options.
3) upon reboot, you will have a 100% normal startup with logo and music.
I used the Bootloader Patch app to check this, and it reports it is safe, and that I can flash anything.
Thanks to Roto, Chain Fire, and alexnoalex
Ok, so, just to be sure I'm not going to break my Tab, doing this ONLY changes/fixes the boot animation etc. (get's rid of the AT&T stuff, and puts in the Samsung stuff).
To be clear, I just flashed Roto's latest Euro firmware (Baseband P1000XXJMA, Build FROYO.XXJME), so performing this fix won't affect/change ony of this stuff right?
If I have to re-flash everyting from scratch, then it's really more trouble than it's worth (Blank screen at bootup? Big deal... It's just at boot right? Everything else works perfectly!)
I wish rotohammer and other rom devs would include this information clearly in their initial posts. Took me awhile to find this fix but it works well. This is also important because you can't see the recovery screen without it.

This is just a quick 30 second flash thru odin, it only repairs the black screen, and doesn't touch anything else!
The developers took out the sound and logo to make the rom file size correct.
That's just the answer I was looking for! Thank you good sir!
Glad I could help.
Hello, I have the same problem but I cannot flash the zip file because my computer doesn't detect the tab when I'm in download mode. I tried updating the drivers and software and it still doesn't want to detect it. I cannot get into recovery mode because of the black screen/white line. Do you know what I can do to get my computer to detect my TAB? I tried searching the forum but could not find any info that helped. Any help is much appreciated. Thanks!

Are you using windows xp, or 7? Put the tab in download mode before you connect to the computer. Is your tab set to usb debugging mode?
I used Win XP, Windows 7 x64 and x86, non of them worked. They can detect my Galaxy S I9000 phone but not my TAB. Yes, I tried it with both debugging on and off, it still doesn't work. Could it be the kernal's fault? Maybe the cable? It will charge the TAB but for some reason my computer won't detect it.
Try different usb cables and ports on the computer.
I tried a different wire and usb ports and it's still not working. I just realized the TAB is not charging anymore. It doesn't make the charging sound when I plug it in. Figured out it's not the cable because it worked on another TAB. Could it be the firmware or kernal?
Not charging when plugged in the computer, or in the wall outlet? Plug it in the wall for at least for hours to get a full charge.
It charges if I plug it into the wall but its very slow like when you charge it via usb. Im using the original charger and cable. There is an x next to the charging/lightening icon on the top when I plug it into the wall and computer.
Just let it charge all night. Be sure its off when charging.
What's the point of having it fully charged? How will that help? My computer still won't detect it even if it's fully charged. I need help to get my computer to detect it so I can restore the original firmware.
I have seen five problems like yours, and after a complete charge, then reboot the phone into download mode, the problem cleared up. They used a different usb port also.
Go to windows update and update your pc.
Look a few threads further down named «help help help»
Ok its currently 50% now. Ill let you know once its fully charged. Thanks for your help so far.
Its 100% and my computer still doesn't detect it. Now what?
Did you have a chance to see the thread “help help help"?
This will sound crazy, but double check your cable - recently someone had the same trouble, because they had dust in the cable connector.
I cannot see the thread you're referring to.
Yes, I did tried a different cable and it's still the same.
Hi everyone, this is my first post, and I'm completely baffled and think I may have bricked my phone. Here is exactly what happened.
I've been running syndicate rom with vision kernel on my samsung epic 4g on sprint for a very long time. I've been getting the upgrade notification for months, so I finally decided it was time to upgrade. Unfortunately, the way I decided to upgrade was to go back to stock, and then let it naturally upgrade. I followed the instructions at:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1052813
and, the first time I tried to odin, it was stuck at "setup connection", so after waiting a very long time, I unplugged, then re-started odin. because I used the instructions at the above link, I had re-partition, auto-reboot, and reset time checked. This time, odin was able to get past "setup connection", and was stuck on "datafs.rfs" in odin, and on the phone, it no longer showed a downloading logo and looked like it was just off. I unplugged again, and this time, I could not easily get the phone into download mode. I tried a few things with the battery in, with it out, and finally, somehow, got it into download mode again. Trying odin 1.61, I tried again, it got stuck on datafs.rfs again, and after waiting a very long time, I unplugged again.
Now, I believe my phone is bricked. The following is true of my phone right now:
it does not turn on
it does not have any lights when plugged in
if plugged in, it will not go into download mode
if on battery, i can take out the battery, then put it back in, then i can go into download mode, but when in this mode, windows reports an unrecognized usb device. if the battery is in from when it was plugged in, it will not go into download mode. the battery must be popped out and then put back in to go into download mode.
terrible timing too, as my wife is expecting, and she'll most likely need to get in touch with me in the next week or two. If anyone can help me get my phone working again, that would be amazing. Thanks in advance for your help.

Windows not recognizing a device means you don't have the proper drivers installed. I'd link them to you but I'm at work on my phone. Search google for samsung epic drivers. Or i believe you can even get them from samsung's website.
And Congratulations on the new baby.
Sent from a CM9 powered Epic.
the link you posted has all the best instructions. Do not skip a step or circumvent any. Use the file links he has provided. And use Odin 1.85.
Take the battery out of your phone let it sit for at least 20 minutes, leave the battery out plug it into computer and attempt to get it into download mode.
Very important your not using the Samsung stock charging cable to do this. You need a good USB cable, one like the Blackberry phones come with, which is designed for heavy data transfer
Good luck.

The problem and the cause of your woes is a faulty cable. Get a heavy duty blackberry cable and try again. This time leave the battery out, using the cord as power put it into download mode with Odin already up on the computer and make sure to use the same port that it has been working in.

I actually tried a differnt cable because of the original link the first time, and that didn't work at all (used my wife's evo shift cable). But, I did find yet another micro usb cable in the house, and that one does seem to be working. Although, the odin flash does not seem to be, seems to be hanging (and the phone shows just blue across the entire screen), but that is progress =) Thanks for the tips everyone. I'll post my findings if I am successful in un-bricking. (or post where i get stuck next =P) Thanks again everyone.
When you get stuck again, Odin with the battery and sd card out.
Already took the SD card out. I can't go into download mode with just the cable though (already tried). Any recommendations? To get into download mode currently, I have to:
unplug everything
take out the battery
pop the battery back in
then, 1+power to download mode.

Sounds like either the cable still has issues or the USB port is not properly powered. If a desktop, use the USB ports in the rear right on the motherboard. I see you have had different results from different cables already, if you can just get ahold of a heavy duty Blackberry or Palm Pre cable.
How long should I wait before re-trying a new flash? It's been stuck on cache.rfs for the past 2 or 3 hours. I'll try the back usb port instead of front usb ports. I'll also try a palm cable, I think I have one lying around somewhere. Thanks for the tips.

Yeah, it is time to try again with those tips. 15 minutes is max.
SUCCESS!!
Following the original link, what I had to do was:
I plugged into rear usb
still wouldn't go into download mode, so unplugged, popped in battery, went into download mode, plugged in
started odin 1.61 (as in the trouble shooting part of the original link)
Used EC05 rom (as in the trouble shooting part of the original link)
my phone is back from the dead! Thanks for the help everyone.

Hello guys this is my first post so forgive me if I don't have the terms down to key.
I've recently flashed to the Codename Android ICS rom and while it's a beautiful rom my battery life after 4 cycles or so hasn't improved past 8 hours a day. I was previously getting decent life on Blazer so I want to revert back to GB. After doing my research on the million topics of reverting from ICS to GB, I thought I would give it a shot. Right now I still have the Codename Android rom, FC22 Kernel, and the EL26 modem. I followed sfhub's well written guide using the EL29 one-click modem program. I had my phone in download mode and recognized by my computer, but when I clicked the start button ODIN almost instantly showed a red fail box and as far as I know the cable is fine and the computer never lost power. Fearing the worst I quickly unplugged my phone and restarted it and luckily still booted into the rom fine and everything seemed normal. However my phone is no longer recognized by my computer, in download mode or not. The phone charges and my computer makes the device recognition beep, but one second later it makes the device unplugged beep and this keeps continuing and the phone is never fully recognized. I still want to revert to GB so I installed mobile odin to cut out the pc part. Before I do anything I want to make sure I have the right files downloaded (EL29 or 26 files), and that mobile odin will work fine on ICS to get me back to GB without breaking my phone. With all the brick stories lately, I want to make sure I have everything down.
Any help will be appreciated.
I would try a different USB port on the computer. I used to have problems with my Samsung moment where out would stop seeing the phone but changing the port let it redetect. Reinstalling the drivers or trying a different PC to see if it detects the phone could point you to which end is the problem.

I tried different USB cables and computers, but still having the problems. My girlfriend also has the E4GT, albeit all stock, and I plugged it into my computer and everything recognized correctly. I have the mobile Odin application installed on my phone and I just want to make sure I flash the correct files from the ICS Codename Android rom to get me safely back to GB. Seeing one red fail box from Odin has me on the cautious side.
Ok re download the el29 stock root one click first. Get rid of the one you have. Now download Calkulins format all and download auto root eg39-el29. Make sure you have system debugging checked. (settings /applications or settings/developer options) That is why your computer is most likely not recognizing. If it is checked then check your drivers. Go in to recovery. Run calls format all av few. Times. Pop o out the battery when its finished and go to Odin download mode. Flash one click rooted el29. Reboot. Check USB debugging again and connect usb but don't go into usb mode. Start auto root el29 cwm rogue to get recovery. Reboot. After successful reboot flash blazer offer whatever el29 rom you.like. Hope i helped.
Thanks for the reply Tinmetal. I checked my phone and I have Android Debugging and USB Debugging Notify checked. I also tried reloading the drivers on different computers, switching cables, and rebooting the devices. I'm pretty sure the connectivity problem came from the failed Odin flash, which I still don't know what went wrong.
I looked more into when I connect the phone to the computer and I recognizes the device, but before the drivers are applied the device gets disconnected. This lead me to a USB cable or port problem, but I tried every combination and still had the problem.
Do you still feel that Calkulin's wipe all is necessary being on a ICS rom, I read that flashing the cache's while on ICS can cause problems. I extracted the .tar files for the stock root el29, do you expect any problems if I use mobile Odin?

Check out this thread...bricked my phone http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1525495
First of all yes you should ruin Calkins format all. Its not the same as using the recovery wipe. Next i would try to run sfhub's E4GTAUTO EL29EL29 auto root. You don't have to be in DOWNLOAD MODE OR USB MODE. IF YOU'RE HEARING THE CONNECTION SOUND THEN YOUR PC IS RECOGNIZING THE DEVICE. IF e4gtauto doesn't connect to your device i would uninstall kies and all Samsung drivers from the device manager on your computer and reinstall with just the sprint drivers. Put in a search for the sprint drivers here on xda and it should come up. If you can't find the sprint drivers hit me back and I'll post them for ya
Alright I have an update hopefully this will help someone who may be experiencing the same problems. My phone was working perfectly fine the day before. I woke up this morning and my phone was completely uncharged even on the charger overnight and would not turn on or charge (PC or wall outlet). I tried different cables and usb ports/wall outlets and I didn't do any flashing at all for a while and I was still on Codename ICS with USB not working. The blue light kept flashing and when I tried to go into download mode I got the "Low Battery, No Download" in red letters.
I took out my gf's battery from her US Cellular gs2 which is basically the same except no WiMax. Put it in my phone and it worked booted up, albeit with really weird touch issues (my battery didn't work/charge in her phone if anyone was wondering). Thinking I had no other choice at this point I used Mobile Odin to flash my phone back to GB in el29 with sfhub's .tar file. Surprisingly everything seemed to work. I am currently back on gb el29 without root (all stock) and I put my battery back in and it wouldn't turn on. I put the charger on and it took about 10mins of charging without the phone on and then I turned it on with it working. I unplugged the charger and it is holding a charge pretty well. However, I am still experiencing the same USB problems. When I plug the phone into the PC it recognizes it and I get the mtch-usb?? (sorry I'm not at home to be exact) on my notification bar, but I cannot get into USB debugging. My PC keeps beeping device recognized then beeping device unplugged and I don't see any activity on device manager. Any explanations, questions, or help would be appreciated?
It sounds to me, unrelated to ODIN, you coincidentally had USB port problems when you were doing this flashing.
Have you tried blowing compressed air into the USB port to dislodge any particles that might have gotten stuck?
I just blew some some compressed air into the phone and it didn't change much. When I plugged it in this time the installing drivers bubble came up and installed "Gadget Serial", which turned into Samsung CDA... My phone's USB connections were working perfectly before I tried my initial ODIN back to the el-29. When I tried that ODIN ran for a good 2 seconds before having the red fail box. I think I set everything to directions, but something happened that caused the failure (slight cable disconnection, bad USB port...) but I have no exact idea what caused that initial red fail box i"m only speculating. Nothing seemed out of the ordinary. After that failure thought my phone couldn't maintain a USB connection. sfhub are you aware of a bad ODIN flash compromising the USB connection, even if ODIN ran for only around 2 seconds, I don't know if it even had enough time to unpack the .tar files.
Mobile Odin el26+cwm. Hold power+volume up and reboot into recovery. Run Calks format all, flash ROM and reboot.

The ODIN OneClicks are purposely arranged to flash recovery.bin first before anything else for just the situation you described. Recovery.bin is basically the *unused* recovery partition so losing it would have no detrimental affects on the phone. The leaked tar releases from Samsung/Sprint are arranged differently and flash the bootloader as the first item. If something went wrong there, I suppose USB could be compromised.
I just don't see how a compromised recovery that is unused could affect your USB and that is the basis of my suggestions.
That's exactly what I was thinking. I never used the modified ICS recovery, because of the problems people were having. I guess either the USB cable wasn't plugged in all the way or some kind of hiccup caused the failed ODIN attempt.
I have more information on my current USB connection. It says USB Connected, MTP-Connected on the notification bar. I've made sure USB debugging is on, but that is as far as my connection gets for either my phone or PC. Other than that notification on my phone I get no activity from my phone, or from Odin, the Samsung drivers, or Windows recognizing the phone.
For anyone new I've tried all the common fixes: switching cables, PC's, usb ports, and every variation of restarting PC/Phone and re-installing drivers, wiping data to factory settings(while on gingerbread), and blowing out the USB port.
Can you open an "adb shell" session to your phone when it is booted into android?
When you are going to ODIN DL mode, do you start ODIN first, then boot to download mode, or do you boot do download first, then start ODIN?
Are you using software to reboot to download mode or Power+VolDown.
Is it actually getting to download mode or not getting there?
I got confused when you said something about not being able to get into usb debugging. Can you change toggle that setting in the configuration? On GB ROMs if you enable USB debugging, it also disables MTP and switches you USB Mass Storage mode.
If you want you can try a ##786# reset from the dialer. It will reset NVRAM and your Android User Data. You'll need your MSL which you can get typing "getprop ril.MSL" in a termina or adb shell.
Mobile Odin might be your only choice if your pc doesn't see your phone. I have flashed from AOKP ROM numerous times using mobile odin and flashing the el26+cwm GB kernel. Just hold power+vol^ to boot into recovery as soon as phone starts to reboot. Just wipe everything and flash new ROM.

killaphatboy: I just successfully used Mobile Odin today to go back to gb, but my USB problems continued.
sfhub: Another thing I never mentioned was that before I went to ICS about a week ago Google Voice kept auto-starting and enabling Car Mode, that quickly went away when I flashed another rom so I didn't initially think it caused a problem.
Also sorry for the confusion. I could always cleanly get into download mode without any errors using Vol Down+Power. However no matter which sequence of starting Odin/plugging in USB cable/and going into download mode, the result is the same which the PC recognizes the phone, but gives the disconnected beep a second later. Can you link me a adb shell thread, I think I know how to set it up but 'adb devices' can't find any devices. Once in a while an installing drivers bubble pops up in in Windows for a split second before the device is disconnected. I caught the processes and found out that there are two drivers that install even though I have no recognition through Odin and no functionality through windows. The first is 'SAMSUNG Mobile USB CDC Composite Device' and the other is 'SAMSUNG Mobile USB Modem #2'. Both install and says Ready to use but I have no further recognition through Windows or Odin.

Enabling of car mode is a common symptom that has been reported when the USB port on the phone is starting to malfunction. Other people have reported the same thing when their USB port was on the way out. Sometimes cleaning out the port helped, sometimes not.
Hey there. I've just recently screwed up my phone. (E4GT) Earlier today I was out and about and haven't been home to charge my phone. My battery died. I got home, plugged it up and got a blue flashing light, that flashed every 4 seconds. I figured it could be a battery problem. I left it there to attempt to charge for about an hour and was eventually able to turn it on.
I was planning on taking it to best buy tomorrow to get another battery. So, I powered off my device, loaded download mode and plugged my phone into the USB port of my laptop. My laptop wouldn't recognize my device. I began trying every USB port on my laptop and got nothing. I also tried my desktop and got nothing. I even re-installed drivers and no avail.
I figured I'd go into recovery and do a full wipe and reflash my ROM. (CM9) Incase you are wondering, I am using chris41g Safe CWM6. I have successfully flashed 3 ROMs using his kernel/recovery. I after I reflashed, I got bootlooped. I pulled battery after about 15 min. and tried powering on again. This time I got stuck at splash screen and it didn't go any further. I pulled battery again after about 15 min. and tried going into recovery, and I couldn't get into recovery. I can into download mode but my laptop and my desktop can't recognize my device. So now I'm stuck at splash screen. I've tried everything I possibly could have tried. I tried ODIN, Recovery, ADB, and I can't get anywhere.
Think I bricked?
I don't think you are bricked, at least not hard bricked "phone turns on but only blue light flashes once" is a hard brick. It sounds like things got weird when the phone discharged. Possible a kernal bug? Have tried any of the one clicks to ff18 or el29 or something? Because if your phone can get into download mode , you're technically not bricked.

Phone won't recognize Laptop or Desktop at all. Even after I reinstalled drivers. Even tried my roommates laptop. Got nothing.
I had the SAME problem on CM9 I was running it for weeks flawlessly then all of the sudden my comp stopped recognizing it. I thought my usb port went bad but I ended up just flashing a different rom, Super nova rom actually and it was back to working flawlessly. If you cant connect the phone to pc to transfer a file to the sd card try using another device like a digital camera or something to transfer the rom. Then flash. That fixed me right up.Damn I didnt realize you said you can no longer get into recovery. Have you tried maually getting into recovery? Power + volume up when phone is off? Try every way you can.
What RB said. You should put everything you need on external SD. If you do not have an SD card reader (so you can read/write to it on a PC), you should get one!

I fixed my problem. I went out and bought another cord for USB port. Guessing all 5 my cords are faulty! Phone is working again now. I restored back to EL29. Just did the OTA to ICS again too. Now I just need to get a new battery.

Hello,
tonight I was out with my friends, and I was told to take pictures. When I did, I unlocked my phone and immediately got a "system.ui stopped working" error and then my phone froze. when it freezes i usually lock my phone and continue from there, but then it wouldn't turn back on, so I took the battery out, and put it back in, and now it won't turn back on! I've taken the battery and SIM out, held the power but to drain power from the phone, but nothing happened. so when I got home, I went to my PC and plugged the two in but my PC doesn't even recognize the phone! Although when i plug in the phone without a battery and try to power on, Windows repeatedly plays the device connected and disconnected sound, but windows explorer doesn't see it.
The phone will charge though, nothing says it does, but I put my tongue on the battery before and after leaving it on charge, and results were much different.
I've tried a ton of things to fix this, but nothing has worked. I really need help for this has many pictures, apps texts and contacts on the phone! If anyone might have a clue on how to fix this, please say so, I really need help!
Other info about phone:
Rooted
Unlocked
Running CM11 (latest stable build as of 14/11/14)
Stock Kernel
Always get "System.UI has Stopped" warning, but no issues until now
USB Charger does work properly
I will take any and all advice! It's really important this is fixed ASAP!
Thanks
