[Q] Backup And Restore problem - Xperia Arc Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello ,
I recently upgraded to ICS but i had lots of bugs and errors and i was advised to tray and reinstall the software. I used the repair form pc companion but i said what all my data wold be deleted. So i used this program that i had "Backup And Restore" (file-extensions.org/backup-and-restore-file-extensions] )(its a link but i cant post links...something about new user.... ). Everything went fine. But after the new software finished installing i tried to restore my backup. It sees it, it tells me that it have contacts, mms, sms, bookmarks and market app in backup (that is what it must have) and i click restore but it gives me an error " Could not restore data ".
Any idea how to fix that? or any other program that i can use to restore the data from that backup ? it is a .sbf file ... originally it was named 30_06_2012.sbf and i thought it was the name problem ..and i renamed it 30062012.sbf ...dunno if its relevant or not but ...
Thank you.
Catalin

trying to restore apps and i get this message! ? fix?
the restore of data was fine but apps wont!
I'm getting this too when trying to restore my data after flashing a new rom. Let me know if you hear of any solutions.
The mybackup website says its an SD card error.. that may be the case, but it was working fine an hour ago on the old rom I had (because I'm new I can't post the link, but a quick google to their FAQ and you'll see what I mean)
I think my issue was due to the SD card. I reformatted it and then copied the contents back again from my laptop. I've now re-installed the new ROM and am using mybackup root to restore my contents as I type this - all seems fine so far
Thanks for the feedback.
What did you format normal or ext or both

I had the same error. I don't find how to fix it but how to recover my data app.
Save the backup on your PC
Execute all .apk in my save folder from your phone
Launch mybackup to do another apps save with data
Copy all file wich are not .apk in the old backup (on your pc) and past them in the new backup folder on your phone (replace all existing file)
And finaly restor the backup, it will restore the data with the app
It's not "user friendly" but it worked for me, it was not a SD card issue
I was having this same issue. Watching alogcat revealed that an apk that MBP was expecting was not there, causing an IO error.
I tried to restore again, this time unselecting that specific app and it appears to be working.
So to fix it, install alogcat and watch for errors as the restore is taking place. This should clue you in on the problem.

This was exactly my problem. Seems like the ****ing program didn't actually back up a damned thing. The folder which was supposed to have the backed-up APKs was completely empty.
I had to restore from an older backup and it worked.
I guess that's just what happens when you rely on free apps.
Just got the same STUPID problem - I'll try the fix above.
The only reason I chose MyBackup Root was because you can do "0-click batch restore" for free which you can't with the free version of Titanium Backup.
EDIT: Backups won't restore. It says "I/O Error". I've had the SD card for a few weeks and it was working perfectly with Titanium Backup. Also, everything's been properly installed formatted and fixing permissions and clearing caches makes no difference.
EDIT 2: After running aLogcat, it says that Mybackup has the following error: "...apps/appnamehere: open failed: EM0ENT (No such file or directory). It's like this for most of my of apps (and I have hundreds) that are now lost with all their data!
Also, none of the apps that do restore so far link to the market (it says this after restore).
This app really needs updating to resolve these serious issues.

[Q] How to update a ROM and keep apps/game saves etc?

Hi, I'm new to rooting and to this forum. I have a HTC Desire that I am using that I rooted yesterday. The process was quite simple and I installed the Evervolv 3.0.0p10 - Jelly bean for HTC Desire yesterday and everything seems to run smoothly (apart from the camera but that's because its still pre-alpha) but when a new version comes out I don't know how to flash the next update without losing all my apps and game saves. I understand that you need to go into boot into Recovery mode then go into Clockwork Recovery but how do I backup all my apps? What I don't want is to restore to an older ROM with the apps on but what I do hope will work is somehow I can get the apps back on the new version of the ROM. Can someone help a noob here on how to do so please
Thanks!
Use titanium backup or mybackup from playstore to backup apps+data then save the backup on ur computer.

also, before you flash any rom update, or any flashable zip, make sure you nandroid backup!
in clockworkmod: backup and restore -> backup
nandroid backup saves your phone's EXACT state: apps, contacts, texts, homescreens everything, so you have a safe point to restore to in case something goes wrong.
these are stored in sdcard/clockworkmod/backup, you can also move these on PC for safekeeping (plus they start to take up a lot of space).

Thanks I did install Titanium backup and I redid backups for everything (I think) because it says "1 backup" underneath all the apps. What I don't understand is how I can save it onto the computer and how to restore everything, such as the apps onto the new ROM I have flashed onto the phone?

Plug ur phone into computer, select connect as disk drive and u can browse through ur files on sdcard and just copy the backup to computer or if u have a card reader, use that and do the same. To restore the apps on new rom just put the backup back on ur sdcard and download titanium backup from playstore then u can restore them. Never used titanium backup but im sure its pretty straight forward. Maybe eddiehk6 will give better instructions.

[Q] SD card formated... How reinstall all apps automatically from playstore ?

Hello,
I wanted to update my firmware, unfortunatelly my device was fully formated ... How reinstall all apps automatically from playstore ?
I can see my 156 apps in google playstore.... But reinstall them one by one would be very boring !
Thanks for your help.
Just open Playstore in computer...sign into playstore and click my android apps in the upper right hand corner...there you will see which all apps were installed on your device...jst keep pressing install and things will be installed on to your phone...!!
Hope this helps
kskendsup, that's exactly what he(everyone) DOESN'T want to do. He has 156 apps
I am in need of a similar solution, I just flashed and did a full wipe, but android/google play refuses to sync my apps like it did before.
Is there anyway to automate downloading and installing all the apps listed in "My Apps"? I do have root access.
/sorry for threadjacking
How about downloading an macro recorder or similar program on PC and make it press install in every app you have in play store.
And to prevent this from happening again, use titanium backup. You can even transfer your titanium backups to pc in case of full wipe.
For future reference why not get a backup program like Mybackup Pro or Titanium Backup? Titanium offers scheduled backups and has a lot of other features like only keeping 3 backups, or 1 if you prefer.
To reinstall most apps the simplest way I find is to login to my Google account, turn WiFi on and after a few minutes it starts to restore them. Remember to check the box that asks if you want it to keep your device backed up.
If neither of these are what you want then I don't know what you can do. I normally backup a ROM and the apps separately so I can always recover if an update to a ROM requires a full wipe.
Guys, if I format the CD card, do all system folders get deleted also? Or it'll just delete user data?
The formatting of the SD card means that everything will get deleted but i guess the important folders are made by system again which are required for the system to run...!!

Formatting sdcard alone will not format system and user data (unless for some apps on asec).
Format system and wipe data thru CWM will delete them

Just asking to make sure the formatting won't brick my phone..
@dionas
I had and loved to use titanium BUT
When my all phone was erased by updating firmware, titanium has also gone !. So titanium isn't the solution in my case .

Nah it wont brick..unless you totally wipe it through CWM and then no rom is loaded onto it, it would not start but thats not bricking it..!!
If you just normally format your SD card it means only your music n things like that will be deleted..no chance of bricking i guess..!!

I have had this frustrating and once perplexing issue several times. I now know what the issue is and how to fix it.
("Market Link" is the term TB uses for The Play Store)
The Issue is that the "Market Link" that Titanium Backup uses to "restore" the app (non system downloaded from The Market) is "broken" The "Market Link" TB saved doesn't match your phone's Android I.D.#..
Allot of times after flashing (or OTA) a Rom your Android I.D.# will change. TB will even ask you if you want to use the new one or keep the old one..
TB does not make a "nanadroid type" of backup for an App to be backed up. What it does is copy the Apps "Market Link" so that when you "restore" the App TB DOWNLOADS the App and INSTALLS the App with a "FRESH" download of it..
THE FIX;
1) Uninstall TB and its Pro Key if you have one. Settings> Application Manager> Clear Data in both the TB app and Key> Uninstall.
2) Delete the Titanium Backup folder that is on your phone's Internal (root) sdcard. (You don't want to simply just download and install TB again because it will use this same "corrupt" backup folder)
I rebooted after this.
3) Clear Data and Cache in the Play Store Application and Google Play Services. Settings> Application Manager> All> Google Play Store and Google Play Services.
Now back completely out of the settings menu and open the Play Store Application. Accept Terms. Download Titanium Backup and Pro Key if you have one. Open Titanium Backup and make a backup of all your User and System apps.
You now have a complete backup with the correct Market Links associated with your current Android I.D. Titanium Backup will now work as intended! ..

Thanks for this post and sorry for the dead thread revival but I have a question.
I'm experiencing this exact scenario, except... now I have cleared all the data and caches etc, I want to restore the backed up app data that I took before switching OS! If I clear Play Store & Play Services data and cache, reinstall TiBu and take a complete backup... Then I'll just have a couple of apps, and no data! Do you mean to copy the previous backup files onto the phone afterwards and then try to restore again?
I am having the exact same problem right now . I need to restore the old backup . can you please help
I have very strange issue here. I am using Whatsapp since 2013. I am using it on same number although that number is not with me anymore and I cannot have it also. So I am using it just the way it is. I changed my phone from Sony Xperia C to LG Optimus L90 to OnePlus 2 to Redmi Note 5 Pro to Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1 to Redmi Note 7 Pro. Every time whatsapp restore worked well. I do format and clean install new version of custom ROM. Everytime, I backed up whatsapp and restored it after install and it worked.
Only this time when I decided to move from Redmi Note 7 pro to Redmi Note 8 pro, it failed unexpectedly.
Not only app, it failed to restore even data.
Now this Redmi Note 8 pro has Android 11 and all my previous phones were having till Android 10. Is this the issue?
Where should I check the logs? and How to correct this?

I flashed ResurrectionRemix based on Android 10 on Redmi Note 8 Pro and Whatsapp restore worked well.
Now since Redmi Note 8 pro crashed and I moved back to Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1 and was working fine. I am using ResurrectionRemix based on Android 10 on Asus.
Yesterday when I tried to flash Spark ROM based on Android 11 on Asus, Whatsapp restored again failed. Same issue which I faced while switching to Redmi Note 8 pro.
I think Android 10 backup cant be restored to Android 11.
I havent tried to restore other backup (taken on Android 10) to Android 11 so cant confirm that.
I have raised this on Titanium Backup official Site and logged a complaint but no acknowledgement even after 3 months.

Titanium Backup do not start

Hi guys, I would like to save my Apps and associated data using the Titanium BU.
I unlocked the Bootloader, installed TWRP 3.3.1-0924 (unoff.) and Magisk 19.2.
Device is: RN8P, MIUI Global 11.0.3 Stable, 11.0..3.0 (PGGEUXM)
Problem: I can install the Titanium App v8.04 or the v7 version. When the TitaniumBU trying to start, and there is some long error message (approx. 2 pages) that all list only Java errors.
Unfortunately, I have not tried the Titanium before (without TWRP and Magisk Root).
Now, I can not say whether it worked before this modification.
Question: Is there any Java settings in the MIUI settings. I didn't find anything in Settings / Developer mode. Maybe someone can help me. I just want to back up my data and the apps with Titanium. On my old Samsung it made a perfect job.
Thanks
regards wa2ld
I downloaded Titanium Backup from play store seemed to work perfectly fine for me.
I had trouble getting titanium backup to install from my backed up apk's but as JuanM2020 said, from the play store works fine. Only issue I have is I've noticed some apps fail to restore with titanium backup on my rn8pro, just hangs, doesn't matter which settings I change. Maybe 10% of my apps have to be manually installed from the play store and then I can restore "data only".
I did not have any issue installing Titanium backup I grabbed from apkmirror, latest version available.
Gave it root and done.
Tbh I had been looking in that solution to backup my apps due to TWRP issues with work profiles (second space) which I am using, and so far none of the apps I tried to backup and restore worked. It backed up the Apk yes (but I dont care about that I have backup of those already) but not once I could make a backup of the app data (well yes I made the backup) more precisely could not restore those apps userdatas. Simple thing I wanted to have my login passwords saved so it could be restore without having to retype them.
Whatsapp, telegram, protonmail and some others, restoration of userdata failed all times.
Still have not found any solution to backup and restore apps and their associated datas from both profiles. Fails on both.
It is likely working for some apps, but certainly not for the app I need it to work. Too bad for me.
Speaking of which is there a way to only backup OS settings alone (without all the apps) for like walpapers, colors, default apps, per app settings like notifications and such?
Thanks.
