I think I'm going to order the X. I'm concerned the XL will have poor battery life with the LTE on ATT. Anyone else going this route?

I am getting both, I will have in about two days the one x (white) and then as soon as the xl is at a ATT store I will have one of those.
I am going to use the XL because I have full LTE in my area and my wife will use the one x, she does not go online as much as I do.
I'd probably take XL
Krait and the new integrated LTE should save a lot of power. I'm interested to see how the new integrated LTE modems perform in terms of battery.
Krait's also faster than Tegra 3 for the most part with its new generation cores vs old cortex-A9 ones.
I'd really like to see the Krait pro model though with the beefed up new Adreno GPU
I'm picking up the One X this Saturday. I'm very excited. However I would have prefer the One XL. I'm just impatient and I want this phone now that's why I'm getting the One X. But either way it should be fun.
I'm on AT&T and I'm going with the ONE X because I don't have LTE in my area yet and I feel that the ONE X will have more developers because its the international version. Plus with my usage I do not need LTE that often.
AND I WANT IT NOWWWW lol
guys .I have poor reception with htc onex .
The reception is exactly the same as sensation .
how is your reception ?could you please compare your reception with onex and your previous phone ?
There is a location at work where I have been with all my previous phones. Every one of them, except the Galaxy Nexus, would lose network coverage when holding the phone normally to type a text or email or such. I couldn't get the Galaxy Nexus to lose coverage at work at all.
But I can't say the same for the SGS2, Sensation, and One X.
I just think the Galaxy Nexus has exceptionally good mobile reception, and everything else is just normal.
My one X has terrible reception compared to my galaxy s2 but has incredible wifi signal, wish it was the other way round.
Unless I'm outside, I always have 1 or 2 bars now where as before I always had full signal.
I hope the upcoming software update fixes this issue.
Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium
same here, gsm reception not good.
I think it's as much a case of the indicator does not reflect the reality of the signal strengh correctly.
Often I have no signal bars but can make calls and send and recieve texts without a problem!
good to see the thread that this is a common problem as i have noticed this from day one and when asked here, no one replied and i am so confused if it was my phones problem. hope that this is a software issue. all my other phones recieve full signal in my house but One X alone keeps moving between 1-5 bars

what mobile bands are you guys having problems with? I'm on T-Mobile UK 1800Mhz and reception is a pig.
Its not a indicator problem .with nokia 5800 I have 70% reception in my room but no signal with Onex and I cant make call with onex .
I dont think so updates can solve this problem.I have never seen any update improve reception .
I had this reception problem with my sensation aswell.I tried lots of roms and radio updates .no diffrent
I've used HTC One X and Galaxy Note in the same places. The Galaxy Note would pick up signals where the HTC One X would not. Had similar issues with HTC Vivid. The Galaxy S II was better than the HTC One X or the HTC Vivid but not as good as the Galaxy Note. None of these had the kind of reception I would call good. I can't remember the last time if ever that I had a phone with acceptable reception. I would rather have poor reception than go back to the iPhone. As I remember, the iPhone 4 had really bad reception. It was a defective unit but the replacement worked fine. That's when I moved to the Android. But the fact I can talk on the phone or use the browser are only a couple of the reasons I use a phone so poor reception is not a deal breaker. Also, you have to lay some of the blame on the network.
Just caught the news this morning that t-Mobile and orange networks (everything everywhere) are going to roll out 4G in the UK from next month. They are going to use the existing 1800 mhz spectrum.
Question is, will my international HTC One X be compatible? On the spec for the phone, 1800 mhz is compatible over gsm, but will it work with this new 4g?
Sent from my HTC One X using xda app-developers app
Its doubtful I would say considering the 4G one x has different hardware
Be interesting if an update could make it work though
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2
Appears they are doing this just in time for the Iphone 5 release date.
Sent from my HTC One X using xda app-developers app
if it supports 1800mhz then i think i would support it. (with possibly a firmware update)
the reason the 4g one x needs different hardware is because the frequencies etc they use for 4g in america are different than in uk, hence the need for different hardware.
NO.
What technologies a phone supports are down to the hardware in it. The phone would need a chip to encode and decode the 4G signals.
The most advanced technology the One X (international) supports is DC-HSDPA which is Dual Cell HSDPA giving a theoretical maximum of 42 Mbit/s.
The phone doesn't have any hardware for LTE and therefore cannot support it with a simple software upgrade.
It won't be rolled out till 2013 most likely, they wouldn't release it out of the blue, most likely iPhone launch time next year

F*** OFF about the Iphone 5 has nothing to do with it! Admittedly the UK needs to update the mobile infrastructure but I seriously doubt it has anything to do with the iphone 5 launch lol. Ministers have been discussing updating the network because it is too slow. I work in retail and we have Mobile card payment terminals and when the network is busy we can't take any payments. So this to me seems more important than the iphone 5 launch. Just my two cents
Curious - there must be some sort of plan/ strategy to allow devices to connect to this network. What is the point if nothing current in the UK could use it without special chips?

Well, it's a chicken, egg scenario.
This is soo.... The 4g LTE 1800 is in Portugal since january of this year. The uk soffer some delay. Nothing about iphone 5 cause this delay!

Everything Everywhere have apparently been working with Huawei on USB / MiFi modems to make use of the network, which is estimated to be ready around October.
It is also worth noting that Three have now been sold some capacity from Everything Everywhere - but they are not allowed to use it until September 2013.... which seems a bit pointless.....

The whole decision from ofcom seems dodgy to me,
O2 have been running a 4G trial for a year now and the first UK network to do so, but ofcom only gave permission to Orange/T-mobile?
What's going on, I do agree that it creates unfair competition to give permission to someone but not others.

I don't miss the UK much regards to net speeds and such. Had 4G LTE here in Denmark for a good year now already. Good to see UK catching up.
Bit unfair that everything everywhere will have a huge advantage over the other providers until next year when the 4G auction comes around

They'll almost certainly roll it out in phases - it will get SOME press but not enough to stun the nation etc. There'll be some limited devices / dongles and possibly test handsets using it - whilst it's debugged and the glitches ironed out...
THEN
They'll wait for a flagship device (like the iPhone) and launch a huge marketing campaign claiming to be the fastest and only 4G network etc etc. Possibly even have an exclusive launch of a device for a month or two before other carriers get the flagship device.
They might also have some services launching at the same time (VoD or similar) - but we shall see.

Apparently most of the kit is already in place, they have been installing it into existing towers for the last several months - probably because they knew that OFCOM could only ever approve it or risk backlash from "delaying the roll out of superfast broadband across the nation"
The Government and OFCOM have already admitted that Mobile Broadband will make up a large part of the UK Broadband rollout - and in particular in rural areas is essentially the most cost effective option. For instance in Greenlaw in the Scottish Borders where I am, we get full Freeview, DAB, SKY, Freesat and I connect to the exchange at 8128k - but there are no street cabinets - we connect direct to the exchange, the only thing BT could ever do to bring Fibre to our village would be FTTP and do you really think BT are going to spend that sort of money for 43 business lines and 423 residential ones..... Meanwhile I get a pretty decent Three UK mobile signal which I rely on whenever Freedom2Surf/Pipex/Tiscali/Opal/Talk Talk (I have no idea who I'm with now - they have been taken over too many times) falls over and generally gets me lower pings and higher bandwidth than my fixed broadband does. If Three offered Unlimited broadband (like they do on the One Plan) that could be used to host servers and connect all my computers too for around £25p/m I would drop the fixed line in a flash and go Mobile.....
4G mobile broadband from Three (or anyone to be honest - but none of the other networks offer anything faster than 2G where I am) could be a very viable option for people who don't have any alternatives Lets face it - I'm looking at around 2020 if I have to rely on BT....
Can't wait for 4G In UK but I have a feeling once it's been out for a while and most people have 4G capable phones it will be dog slow just like 3g

What you said doesn't make sense.
It is 4G, it is LTE, it will be on 1800MHz, and it won't work with the Tegra3 One X.

Hey guys,
Looking for some opinions. I'm planning on jumping ship top the galaxy note 2. I live in the USA and I'm in an area with great LTE coverage. I'm either going to purchase the international or local variant.
I'm thinking of getting the international version because I assume development will be much greater and more accessories available.
If I wait and get the Att version I'll have access to the LTE network, but I fear there will be less development and accessories.
Any thoughts, what would you guys do?
Thanks,
Rob

Great LTE speeds or great development. AT&T version will have the same specs as the international version. The rest is up to you to make a decision
im getting unlocked version i have a GS3 on ATT and HSAP+ is pretty good on ATT.. plus no crap ware from ATT unless you root which is the only to roll :highfive: more support on unlock.. plus HSAP+ will be more battery friendly :victory:

must be loving it:victory: im close to pulling the trigger..the more i go on this site and watch youtube videos about the Note 2 the closer ill buy it..im really wanting a 32GB due to i dont know why we cant run apps from SD cards or burst shots saved ect and what else that only runs on internal memory..16GB now days gets eaten up quick specially when backed up roms .. the SD card reader on the NOTE supports them crazy fast reading from sandisk cards...
high end phones now days should be 32GB at the lowest phones are getting smarter/faster/higher camera MP ect and require more GB but i guess i can live with 16GB for apps only and like 3 roms backed up ect..i feel more safe with 32GB plus the note is design for content consumption i dont really talk on the phone:silly:
i miss my note 1 in a way but was just a test drive to see if i like it and i did. i dont really like 1st gen devices.
I'm agreeing with you guys about LTE, its fast but the hspa+ in this area is real good as well. Plus there's no telling what Att will do to the device, bootloader and all. I think I'll go the intl route for now. Any ideas on foreign suppliers right now, I've used clove on the UK for the original note and gs2 with great success.

I prefer international version too but I'm having such a bad luck with data speed. I can barely go over 1mbps, if I'm lucky 2mbps at the most. I know my location has LTE coverage but doesn't seem hspa+ friendly. It's so frustrating, for that reason I might try att LTE version since specs are most identical.
As for accessories, I don't think there will be too much difference. Int & US S3 has just about same amount of accessories availability. I assume it will be same for Note 2.

One thing I don't see a lot of people mentioning is the tethering capabilities of the international version.
That is the main reason why I went with the international version of the US version HTC One X, Galaxy S3 and now the Note 2 was for the built in tethering.
With the US version, as soon as I tried tethering a device to it, it requires me to add an appropriate more expensive data plan before I can connect.
With the international versions, I tether all day to them with my laptop, my other wifi devices ect. without incurring any extra charges or making any changes to my current data plan.
That my friend, is way worth it for me to go with the international version.
Once you got LTE, you never go back...thats me though. Same exact specs plus LTE? Also it should be out in a week or two? Id wait.
So people who have Note 2 in the US how are your data speeds are seeing a big difference in not having the LTE version? I live in a non LTE area does affect me?

Comparing my international note2 to my wife's galaxy S3 with AT&T's LTE service, she gets faster data speeds - at least 2x what I can get (and sometimes even 4-5x times what I can get.) (I get about 4 to 7 down while I've seen hers go as high as 25 down.) However, it's really not noticable for web browsing, email, etc. The only time I noticed any difference (outside of the speedtest benchmark app) was when downloading something from the google play store. Even that isn't an issue for me, as I usually don't download from the play store when I'm not home (and on wifi.)
Having the LTE device will result in heavier battery usage (even in a non-LTE area.) Until the devices start showing up, however, it's impossible to say what the difference will be. It might be an extremely power efficient LTE chip, or it might not be. The extra drain will be most noticable when the device is connected to the LTE network and data is transfering. Even when NOT using data or not connected to LTE, it will still drain extra power (as the extra LTE chip will be powered and will occassionally search for an LTE connection.)
Take care

Thank you for that information so despite the the data speeds are you satisfied with the Int Note 2 or do you think you will switching to the US version?

I have never owned an LTE phone and seem to do just fine on HSPA+. My Note 2 will here Monday (from Newegg) and I'll just use it as I do every other HSPA+ phone. If it meets my needs (streaming netflix/radio/tethering) I'll just keep it. If the AT&T version is super power efficient and screams on LTE without sucking (bloatware, locked down, etc) I'll just sell my mint international Note 2 and move on with my life and get the AT&T version.
Win-win.

Most likely, I'll keep the international version. I expect AT&T to sell their LTE version for 750 off contract (75 more than I paid for the international), it'll be bloated (as every AT&T device is), locked to AT&T frequencies and SIMs, and I don't think it'll be as well supported by the open community as the n7100.
Finally, I think it'll be at least one more generation of chips before LTE is power efficient enough for me. I simply don't do anything with my phone that really takes advantage of the LTE speeds - so the extra battery drain from the LTE support isn't worth it for me.
If I used my phone for tethering, on the other hand, I probably wouldn't even consider the non-LTE handsets anymore (and would keep a spare battery or two.)
Take care
Gary
Any idea what size sim card will be used for the AT&T version? Should be regular size right? That is my only concern because I don't want to have to cut my regular sized sim card if I were to get the international version. Unless AT&T will use micro sim too... if that's the case then I could just buy the international version now since I'll be cutting my sim card either way.. and I don't really need LTE and AT&T's bloatware.

Burned one of two way over due upgrades and aquired the note II for $239 to rty out since ATT had busted my Note I three times on MediaNet
I used it stock for a day and for another day rooted and Rommed (Pegasus kernel/ LiteRom) for another day and I have to say I am glad I kept the International Note (running JB 4.2.1) for now as the jury is out. Here is a list of pros and cons I have discovered comparing my use of the Note 1 for a year
Pros
Much easier to handle. A little goes a long way here
Screen is longer. A little is a little here.
OS is faster comparing both JB OS
I like the notification led
Definitively louder speaker
S Pen operation and implementation better
Hotswap SD card
LTE (although we won't get it here for a year or more)
I have a warranty LOL Never had them with International devices.
Cons
ATT Bloat (mostly removed)
No FM Radio. I knew this but I do use the radio as I am a News/Talk radio junkie and to conserve power and data
No 4.2 support yet Lack of development ( its early yet but the "excitement level for development is not there as it is for the Internationals)
ATT/Yahoo Browser terrible. I actually used the Samsung browser. Welcome back Dolphin!
Costing me $15 more a month for "smartphone" Not sure if the device is worth another $200 a year.
Verdict is clear, Get the N7100 and have the best of both worlds Which is my intent .Going to order one and try it and sell the other two. or wait awhile and see what develops.
I do know this. I have been using international devices since the ATT Captivate and should have learned then not to buy a carrier phone.
I'm actually on the fence about whether to get the att or the international version. I have lte in my area and I'm wondering what the data speed difference would be between the both of them? If there's not much difference them I would choose the international but I have no way of testing. What do you think the speeds are?

It should at least fall back to 4g anyway if you're not in an lte area anyway.
my 2 cents: i had the same delima when i first ordered my GN2. got it and returned it after one day (thought is was too big) only to win a new GN2 (att version) at a company event. (actually had my choice of a One X/GS3/GN2). nonetheless, i prefer the at&t version for LTE (when needed) and warranty. i'm not a flash-aholic so i'm not sure what i'm missing (yet) with the current crop of custom ROMS; this thing is fluid and fast and, battery life has been very good. i'm using my GN2 mainly for work. personal preference aside, you can't go wrong with either version.
