If you take your phone to a sprint store with repair service they fix cracked screens for $35 without insurance. FYI Happened to me.

Hey, I work for sprint as a service manager. If you have a cracked screen you can get just the screen replaced for free if you have the insurance, if you don't then just pay the 35$ to get it fixed. When they replace your phone you get a referb. Most times those still have issues, if you live up around my area i'll even do it for ya. (i need the tickets lol)
worst case scenerio is you pay the 35 dollars.
They don't care if you are rooted vs unrooted, they make their money or you use your insurance.
I was fully rooted on Fresh's rom and dropped my phone in a parking lot, 35 dollars later it was fixed.
Funny enough -- I got it fully replaced a week later for a lingering issue with my 4G keys. I'm incredibly impressed with sprint's service -- I didn't ask for any special treatment (unrooted and returned to stock)
The refurb I got in return has been flawless. I was a convert from Apple after 4 years. Sprint IMO has really stepped up the game in terms of customer satisfaction and value.

agreed with previous comments with regards to sprint.. AWESOME customer service. And the 35 fix is rediculously awesome! My dog chewed on my my wifes NN screen (no i am not joking)... no questions, no nothing. They gave me a "new" phone for 35!! A-MAZING!
Anyway... to the OP...

When you break you glass screen for the evo and have t.s.p. insurance, I think its called that .. thought it was 35 $ to fix.Sprint telling me 100$
Thanks,

Sprint doesn't fix the broken screens for $35 anymore. They did that for a month or two and then stopped. $100 is your deductible to get your phone replaced via Asurion (the company that insures your phone).

Its cheaper if you don't use insurance, but you gotta buy the parts and install them yourself. So it's a double-edged sword.

If I ever drop my phone I will get replacement for phone not screen only. Reason - had situation in past when dropped phone and board get damaged after which phone start having reception issues. Does anyone think about possibility that something else may be damaged too and you wont know until you pay those $100 for screen? But again that's just me.
I had my phone fixed (broken glass) by a sprint store, no insurance, for $35 on April 5th.
$100 just for a screen? That's nuts. That's the amount I payed for my phone when it was on sale.
Screens can still be repaired for $35 if you do not have insurance, but it is a ONE TIME COURTESY. We only do it for customers we know absolutely need their phone and do not have time to wait on one backordered from Asurion.

Really? The repair center I went to when this happened under 2 months ago straight up that they couldn't touch or even look at a phone that had any signs of physical damage.
Technically if the evo has less than 2 cracks that are less than 2" we can fix or replace for the $35 (free if you have TEP)
The screen is done.cracks everywhere..thanks for all the info..
Phone was old and worn anyway with power button crack light leaking out from the side of it..
Other Evo here in three days upgrade in January, can't wait for new Evo 3d..

I'm out of contract and am interested in the Sprint SGS2 aka Epic Touch 4G to replace my EVO. $200 from Sprint. Saw today that Amazon is selling it for $.01 to new subscribers. Attempting to renew through Amazon gives me a price of $130, but still would have to get a new plan.
I'm not interested in doing anything illegal, so the question is: If I want the SGS2 on Sprint with my current plan (includes 15% discount and 300 extra minutes) am I stuck paying $200 for it?
I think this would work.
Add the new line and get the E4GT for $.01
Get the cheapest prepaid phone you can find.
Activate the prepaid phone and port your original Sprint number to it. This will cancel service on that line from Sprint.
Once your number is ported to the prepaid phone, call up Sprint and port it to your new phone.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk
That would get me the phone for $.01 but I would have a new plan from Sprint then. It might still be worth it, but I usually use about 700 plan minutes each month, so my savings on the phone would evaporate pretty quickly if I had to go to the next higher plan. The more I think about it, the more I think I will have to pay $200 to keep my existing plan and get the new phone. Still, in the long run that would save me money compared to a new plan that doesn't include 300 extra minutes.
Well, Sprint will buy back your EVO for $90 so you can upgrade for $110. That's what I did.

Did not know that. Thanks!
No problem. Just checked and yes, the buyback is still $90.
https://secure2.sprintbuyback.com/consumer/app/ViewEditableModelsPage/
Although, I'm sure you could sell if for more if you wanted to.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk
I don;t think I could sell it for more. I think the charging system is messed up. My batteries charge super slowly. Only 50% charge overnight. I thought it was a bad battery, so I purchased a new one. Still not good. I bought an external battery charger and have been charging them that way instead. I tried using different kernals to see if that was the problem but it has not fixed it. I think the charging port may be partially broken.
$90 from Sprint sounds like the best deal that I'm likely to get.
Thanks again!
That's what happened to mine too. Mine would say it was charging but the battery would still go down. Woke up a couple mornings to a dead battery.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk
Maybe I can get more for my Evo! I tried all sorts of things to get this charging problem fixed. New battery, reset to stock OS, different kernels, different charging adapter. No luck. Today I want to try charging it again but could not find my micro usb cable. Pulled another one out and tried it with the same charging adapter and charged up as fast as it used to! I guess there were a lot of variables sand that was one I had not tried. Looks like no big rush to replace the EVO now either.
If you have insurance they will fix or replacement your same day at Sprint store. My wife had hers replaced in store also they do not sell the Evo anymore so you may get a better phone as replacement. Was in the store and they offered a SGSII to replace a broken power button on Evo.
Ok so i'm realizing as i've been reading the threads, that many of us came from evo 3d, and photon, and nexus s. How are you guys able to get e4gt without your contracts being up? I know that some of those phones are less than a year old. and i'm pretty sure some of us will move on from e4gt to galaxy nexus when it comes out. Whats your trade secret? I can't really imagine, people cashing up $500 + every few months? even if you were to sell your old phone to off set the difference.
can you guys please tell me your secret? because i would love to get the latest phones, with minimum money spent.
I'm an avowed gadget freak and when Sprint still had the BTA (bill to account) option, I bought many phones at full price but since they disbanded that lovely feature I've had to resort to calling in and requesting an earlier upgrade (worked once and I used it for that pos EVO 3D). I also used to have 5 active lines, most of those I only activated to get a new phone lol so I paid probably 3 times as much with service, etc.
Some people have better luck than others and get an early upgrade often, I'm guessing it's a case of who you know over blind luck.
Sell the old one to put towards the new one

It is actually REALLY easy.
It is called Sprint Total Equipment Protection
As you can see below I have had a few phones, Only the Samsung Epic1 was actually upgraded. Everything else is thanks to TEP.
Before I would get broken phones and use TEP to get like new phones and sell them to buy a new phone, but it is even easier now, they offer similar phones to yours. So, In June I bought the Evo 3D, got bored with it by december. Wanted the ET4G, that wasn't available through TEP, so I got the Photon. Got bored of that, then swapped my Photon for the ET4G.
Seriously, that $8 a month is well worth it, AND if you brick your phone, you get a new one!
I sell my girlfriend for money.
now you know.
for me, I just make sure to keep my devices in pristine condition. That way I can sell mine on craigslist and just put in the difference against the retail price of new phone. so im usually out of B/T $200-$250 for new phone
Well, I used to get the Premier subsidy every year so I could get a brand new phone every summer for $200. That's how I've gotten my last several phones. Went from a Sanyo flip phone (before Premier) to a Palm Treo 650. Kept that for 2 years, got a HTC Mogul, that crapped out and TEP replaced it with a new or refurb HTC Touch Pro. This is around when the Premier perks started. Had that for maybe a half a year and then when my contract was up I got a launch day Palm Pre. Had that for a year and got a Premier upgrade to an HTC Evo. That just broke on me a few months ago but I had talked them into keeping my last Premier upgrade on my account so I was able to sell back my broken Evo for $90 and pay like $110 out of pocket for the E4GT.
Trying to keep it in good shape (probably will have to get the USB jig to reset the flash count) so I can sell it and buy the SGS3 whenever it shows up on Sprint in the Fall or whatever.
Its very simple....craigslist lol. I sold my evo 3d for $240 and found a guy selling white epics for 350. My girlfriend did the same thing

They kill the ESN so it can't be reactivated on Sprint but there are lots of phones with bad ESNs still being sold on ebay and elsewhere.
One of the benefits of having a real job, I suppose.
Having a job with no debt. And the fact that I got a pristine et4g off craigslist for 275

I personally have a friend that does work with Sprint and he can get phones brand new at "New Contract" prices... Then I just sell my phone on craigslist!
That's like when the Galaxy Nexus comes out, it will most likely be $199-$249 and I can get $300 for my E4GT when I decide to sell it!
With this method, I actually come out on top!

But the point is some1 though the the g2x was worth $200, while in the xda world, thats old technology... I switch phones at least 3-4 times a year... I love playing with the new ish! I think we all do! If I don't root my phone then I root my girl, but i'm rooting something, lol

The exact same situation happened to me with my Nexus S 4g. I will give you a heads up...its an absolute hassle.
Reason is that Asurion flagged the phone ESN as "lost/stolen"
It took almost a week between calls to Sprint and Asurion to get the matter solved.

You can try to activated...but if assurion flag the esn as lost or stolen it's not going to work with sprint no more you can try to remove the flag but most then likely it's not going to work...you can try to sell it on Ebay for cricket...

In my past experience from earlier this year I lost my phone at the Airport. The airport ended up finding my package after like 3 weeks... I had reported it lost, so i got a new phone (Evo 3D). The ESN on the lost phone was clean for activation. I ended up playing it safe and selling it on Craigslist when I went on a trip like across the USA at new york lol! far away from Oregon.... Anonymous style to keep it freshly away from me.
If you processed the claim through sprint they will lock the esn specific to that phone from use. If you called assurion directly they don't always follow policy and may not have locked the "lost" phone.

FLAGGED..... lol... .oh well...guess I'll use it for a mini tablet at home or tether it off of my evo....thank-you for all your replys......
Being that u called asurion plus sprint its definately flagged. Next time just deal with asurion and leave sprint out of it. Asurion wont flag the esn unless u say its stolen. With my original epic i had a friend slap it out my hand by accident and i couldnt get sprint service center to fix it and it was only 2 days old. I was tight so i felt like why should i send it back if im coming out of pocket anyways? So i went online filed a claim put that i lost it and gave it to my friend so he can try it out. He activated it no problem but decided he'll stick to his evo. Now my bro has it and even got it fixed free by sprint when they started the in store repair thing. Too bad sprint ended that in like a month. My bro still has the phone on his line tho lol

If you have the account owner(you or your gf) call sprint they can verify you were the purchaser and pull the flag off of it if you're nice, they will just pull up the esn to verify it was indeed the device you originally purchased and lost and then clear it out I've had it done a few times in the past when I've lost devices, actually had my evo flagged as lost twice and removed from my 5 year old hiding the damn thing up inside the couch where i couldn't see it and then I'd find it a few weeks later when I'd.move the couch to vacuum under it or once he stuffed it down into the back seat of the car and my wife found it when her purse spilled and her wedding ring fell in the same slot between the bottom and back of the seat. Just be warned its a bit of a hassle and may require calling several times til you get a rep willing to do it for you

This is how I get all my new phones... You can hook it up no problem. An esn swap on you EVO line is all it takes.
As soon as you file the claim, it becomes the property of Asurion. In every replacement box they send out, they give you a return envelope to send your old unit back in case you should find it again. Technically attempting to reactivate or sell it would be insurance fraud if they decide to pursue it. Its better off being flashed to another provider that doesn't care where an ESN comes from.

@OP, this is what you do- hold on to your phone or you can sell or donate to one of the developers in here if you are a chronic flasher. Most of the posts in here are spot on. If you only contact Asurion then your phone wont be flagged by Sprint since apparently the two don't talk all the time.
I am sitting on two phones that I purchased from people who thought it was a bad ESN but I have since turned one on to Sprint and the other I had checked and its also good.
I let the kids play with them, an Evo and a Evo 3D - I just made up a Google voice number for them and while in the home they can call all their friends or whatever. Then if we go out I just turn on the Hotspot and they can get market apps or make a call while I control everything. Also they can watch netflix - whatever it takes for a dad to get some PEACE and QUIET!
