If you take your phone to a sprint store with repair service they fix cracked screens for $35 without insurance. FYI Happened to me.

Hey, I work for sprint as a service manager. If you have a cracked screen you can get just the screen replaced for free if you have the insurance, if you don't then just pay the 35$ to get it fixed. When they replace your phone you get a referb. Most times those still have issues, if you live up around my area i'll even do it for ya. (i need the tickets lol)
worst case scenerio is you pay the 35 dollars.
They don't care if you are rooted vs unrooted, they make their money or you use your insurance.
I was fully rooted on Fresh's rom and dropped my phone in a parking lot, 35 dollars later it was fixed.
Funny enough -- I got it fully replaced a week later for a lingering issue with my 4G keys. I'm incredibly impressed with sprint's service -- I didn't ask for any special treatment (unrooted and returned to stock)
The refurb I got in return has been flawless. I was a convert from Apple after 4 years. Sprint IMO has really stepped up the game in terms of customer satisfaction and value.

agreed with previous comments with regards to sprint.. AWESOME customer service. And the 35 fix is rediculously awesome! My dog chewed on my my wifes NN screen (no i am not joking)... no questions, no nothing. They gave me a "new" phone for 35!! A-MAZING!
Anyway... to the OP...

Pretty much borked myself out of 4G, I just unrooted my phone back to stock, ready to take it to Sprint tomorrow. Just a few questions before I do so.
Q1: When i first got my evo they gave me one with a broken volume down button, i went back and they replaced it, telling me i can't get a refund now. =_= Does this mean i cant return my current Evo? (2nd one)
Q2: How do i come at them about replacing my phone? Do i say i updated to the most recent OTA and now my 4G doesnt work? or Do i report it stolen or lost? I dont know what to do. I just dont want to end up paying for a brand new one or refurbished one.
Q3: Should i just switch over to Boost mobile and cancel my account with sprint since i dont have 4G anymore? This would be more positive thinking if i cant get a free Evo replacement again.
Q4: Just reassuring myself, Theres no way to create a wimax image using the RSA key info from my RSA_oem.key file? I read some where that you can use the hex editor to change info on a wimax template to work with your phone.
It was dumb of me, i remember it like it was yesterday. I had no 4G connection, but i had my Keys. (not backed up of course) So i figured it was my Wimax/Radio, next i formatted Wimax and lost my keys. (Eternally screwed) Dont EVER do this if you're reading this. First thing I'm gunna do when i get my new Evo is back up my RSA keys.
Do you have insursance on it? If not then your SOL. I had same issue with my 4g and I told them I had been updating my profile and prl (after flashing stock rom) and it dropped and shut off, then after reboot I couldn't get 4g. They took it for testing and I came back and got a new phone. I had insurance
Yes i have insurance thank god. Did they make you pay a deductible? sorry for the late post i had forgotten of this post. I talked to a customer at my local sprint store and he told me i should just pay the 100$ deductible and write it off as damage cuz they'll give me an Evo 3D they're not handing out evos anymore, but i still want to try :3

Sprint store reps won't know if you would be getting a 3D for insurance replacement, you would have to contact Asurion about that. Some people have been getting the 3D, but some have still been getting the OG Evo. All depends on what they have in stock when you make your claim.

quick idea, instead of paying $100 for a replacement thru your insurance for a refurbished phone, you could go onto craigslist and buy a new evo slightly used for the same price thats probably in better condition. Just throwing the idea out there.

You only have to pay a deductible if theatre physical damage. If your wimax is damage just flash a stock rom and when you bring it in say you were updating the prl or profile and it dropped and when you turned it on 4g wasn't working. They will take it for testing then give you a new one.
Positively works

OK got a question..... about a month ago my wife lost her ep4gt. So she called sprint and call asurion to file a insurence claim that it was lost and paid 100$ for a new e4gt ...well 1 week later we find her old e4gt so now she has two.... my question is would I be able to hook up her old e4gt to replace my HTC EVO or is the old e4gt just a paper weight now???we both are on the same contract.......
You're better off selling the phone on craigslist and using the money towards a new phone.

now what if the buyer tries to verify the ESN what would sprint tell him......cause i sold my old HTC HERO and when i meet with guy he called sprint to verify that the ESN was good and wich is was cause i upgraded to my EVO
The exact same situation happened to me with my Nexus S 4g. I will give you a heads up...its an absolute hassle.
Reason is that Asurion flagged the phone ESN as "lost/stolen"
It took almost a week between calls to Sprint and Asurion to get the matter solved.
Good Luck.

1. you shouldn't tell them you found your old phone. they might want it back
2. you can't use your phone on spint anymore. but i heard it can be used to flashed on boost mobile
3. you can sell it on criaglist as a bad esn phone. people will still buy it. or you can donate to one of our developers on xda.

You can try to activated...but if assurion flag the esn as lost or stolen it's not going to work with sprint no more you can try to remove the flag but most then likely it's not going to work...you can try to sell it on Ebay for cricket...

In my past experience from earlier this year I lost my phone at the Airport. The airport ended up finding my package after like 3 weeks... I had reported it lost, so i got a new phone (Evo 3D). The ESN on the lost phone was clean for activation. I ended up playing it safe and selling it on Craigslist when I went on a trip like across the USA at new york lol! far away from Oregon.... Anonymous style to keep it freshly away from me.
If you processed the claim through sprint they will lock the esn specific to that phone from use. If you called assurion directly they don't always follow policy and may not have locked the "lost" phone.

FLAGGED..... lol... .oh well...guess I'll use it for a mini tablet at home or tether it off of my evo....thank-you for all your replys......
Being that u called asurion plus sprint its definately flagged. Next time just deal with asurion and leave sprint out of it. Asurion wont flag the esn unless u say its stolen. With my original epic i had a friend slap it out my hand by accident and i couldnt get sprint service center to fix it and it was only 2 days old. I was tight so i felt like why should i send it back if im coming out of pocket anyways? So i went online filed a claim put that i lost it and gave it to my friend so he can try it out. He activated it no problem but decided he'll stick to his evo. Now my bro has it and even got it fixed free by sprint when they started the in store repair thing. Too bad sprint ended that in like a month. My bro still has the phone on his line tho lol

If you have the account owner(you or your gf) call sprint they can verify you were the purchaser and pull the flag off of it if you're nice, they will just pull up the esn to verify it was indeed the device you originally purchased and lost and then clear it out I've had it done a few times in the past when I've lost devices, actually had my evo flagged as lost twice and removed from my 5 year old hiding the damn thing up inside the couch where i couldn't see it and then I'd find it a few weeks later when I'd.move the couch to vacuum under it or once he stuffed it down into the back seat of the car and my wife found it when her purse spilled and her wedding ring fell in the same slot between the bottom and back of the seat. Just be warned its a bit of a hassle and may require calling several times til you get a rep willing to do it for you

Sell it on ebay. Epic touches with bad esns sell for at least 250. They can be flashed to boost, virgin, cricket, etc. I am running my epic touch on virgin. Can't beat $25 a month for service.

This is how I get all my new phones... You can hook it up no problem. An esn swap on you EVO line is all it takes.
As soon as you file the claim, it becomes the property of Asurion. In every replacement box they send out, they give you a return envelope to send your old unit back in case you should find it again. Technically attempting to reactivate or sell it would be insurance fraud if they decide to pursue it. Its better off being flashed to another provider that doesn't care where an ESN comes from.

@OP, this is what you do- hold on to your phone or you can sell or donate to one of the developers in here if you are a chronic flasher. Most of the posts in here are spot on. If you only contact Asurion then your phone wont be flagged by Sprint since apparently the two don't talk all the time.
I am sitting on two phones that I purchased from people who thought it was a bad ESN but I have since turned one on to Sprint and the other I had checked and its also good.
I let the kids play with them, an Evo and a Evo 3D - I just made up a Google voice number for them and while in the home they can call all their friends or whatever. Then if we go out I just turn on the Hotspot and they can get market apps or make a call while I control everything. Also they can watch netflix - whatever it takes for a dad to get some PEACE and QUIET!
I need may need to get my LCD screen fixed by sprint and I was wondering what I should I do. I am rooted and I am worried if they find that I am rooted they will not fix it. Thanks for the help.

FYI, if you broke the screen, sprint wont fix it. You will have to go through Asurion and pay the deductible. But to answer your question, if the screen doesnt work, there is no way for sprint to find out if it's rooted or not.

^This.
Sprint's warranty doesn't include dropping it. The insurance covers everything. You just have to pay the deductible. When you go through the insurance they don't care if its rooted or not. The only thing that matters is if hardware just stops working. Then if you're rooted and you're wanting Sprint to fix it you need to be unrooted.

I have taken my rooted Evo into multiple service and repair centers, and the techs have always repaired it. They are trained not to but they don't get paid if they don't so why would they care if your phones rooted.
Never had a problem with Sprint repairing any of my phones, rooted or not. That being said, if worst comes to worst, it's not too terribly difficult to disassemble an Evo to replace the LCD. Replacements can be ordered online for around $25-$50.

Hey guys was wondering if anyone has returned a rooted EVO with custom Rom to sprint for insurance claim, my wife's EVO charging port broke and phone is no longer charging, we have insurance through sprint but the phone is rooted and can't return to stock because can't charge it to power it up, will the sprint tech find a way to power it up and not want to file a claim because its rooted and running a custom Rom or should I be ok taking it in like that
It shouldn't be a problem. Your issue is with your charging port being broken, which is a hardware problem. If the problem was related to rooting your phone, things might be different. My understanding is that Sprint generally doesn't care whether or not the phone is rooted, as long as the problem isn't directly related to your phone being rooted.

If you have TEP (Total Equipment Protection) they should fix it. I think you still have to pay like $35, but it beats the $100 deductible through Asurion, and you get your phone back, not a replacement. Take it to an authorized Sprint repair center and see about getting it fixed.

I did take it to a repair center and the technician opened it up and said it couldn't be repaired, do they send you back the same phone I thought the EVO 4G was discontinued, I would of preferred to get it fixed than pay deductible but they said no
Asurion will send you a replacement EVO, unless they tell you otherwise.

With how old the EVOs are now, the charging port may just be filled with pocket lint/dust, not allowing the charger to make a complete connection with the port. Trying cleaning it out with a toothpick and see if that helps at all since they aren't helping you at all at the moment.
Interesting, if this it's the case, my next phone is going to be purchased at best buy, they ask no questions.

My power button quite working 7-8 months ago so I took it to a local service center. It was obviously rooted and the tech there flashed it back to stock rom (left root intact) and ordered me a replacement. He never said a word about it and the cust. service woman that I talked to asked me what ROM it was so they obviously knew. I'm not sure if she added any notes to my account or not but they were very nice and helpful.
Even with TEP, Sprint won't fix a broken charger port because it's defined as physical damage so you have to send it to asurion. That's what they told me when mine broke and the replacement came shipped with the same issue. And Sprint changed their policy a while back, they will accept rooted phones but when they return it to you it will be stock with the latest software.
