I've looked around the forums and I am not finding instructions on how to unbrick a Kindle Fire that has ClockworkMod installed. I installed ClockworkMod and installed a late ICS build with kernel 3.0 and the Fire is stuck in an infinite boot loop with the Kindle Fire/Android mascot logo.
I can get into ClockworkMod but re-flashing with the CM9 that I have doesn't do anything to fix it.
I know that if I were able to put the stock Kindle firmware on that /sdcard volume I can fix this but how do I do this with ClockworkMod?
I've tried all the unbricking utils (even the Java front-end) and they act like they're fixing things but they all make no changes.
I do have the correct drivers and can send adb commands to fastboot, normal boot, recovery boot, so I'm pretty sure I'm just missing how to unbrick a Kindle that is using ClockworkMod.
Thanks in advance.

When you say "infinite bootloop" do you mean the device turns on, shows the boot logo, then reboots?
If so... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=25400963
Also CWM will not work with the latest versions of ICS, you need to flash TWRP.
I recommend people copy both the Kindle standard image as well as the customized image to the /sdcard volume. That way if you're stuck with a bricked Kindle at least you can re-install the original Kindle image and get back to where you were before.
I ordered a factory cable to get it to boot into factory recovery mode, which I know works in all cases.
In the meantime I'm going to attempt to try the steps in that post.
After that I'll try to mount the original Kindle system image from a USB drive (using the USB boot feature of CWM) and then try to install it from there and then go back to TWRP or FireFireFire.
I've successfully used FireFireFire before, but using CWM bricked my Kindle hard. I'll update this thread when it's working again.
Thanks for the info.
Okay, I successfully unbricked it.
It wasn't so much a hard brick or a soft brick but more of a firm bricking.
I went into CWM and told it to mount the USB volume. The 5 gigabyte drive appeared on my computer and I formatted it.
I took the Amazon stock update and changed its file extension to zip.
I then copied it from the computer to the mounted volume.
I chose the zip for installation and then installed it from CWM.
After shutting down and rebooting a few times it worked.
I didn't even have to do any ADB tricks. This is because I had a working CWM boot image.
Now it's off to more hacking!!
I am having the same problem... how did you get into clockwork? it doesnt stay on long enough for me to connect it to the KFU
I did the same thing. You'll need to go into CWM and mount it as usb storage and then it will show up on your desktop as a disk drive. Format it from there to wipe out the crap that's hanging it up and then reinstall either your rom or stock amazon rom.

I am int he same boat. How did you or can I get into Clockwork
I'm not very knowledgeable about CWM but I do have an idea. Try turning off kindle by holding down power button, plug kindle in to computer and turn it on. Open KFU, if it says that adb is online, then you have your fix. Just set the boot mode to recovery and you should boot right in to cwm.
Has anyone else experienced this problem:
I rooted my Kindle Fire using KFU 0.9.5. it came stock with kindle 6.3 software. The rooting process was a cinch, and I installed GO Launcher EX and the Google Play store and many other applications that work great. I haven't installed anything in the past few days. It's been working fine since I rooted about 3 weeks ago. Now, all of a sudden, I go to open my fire and there's an android guy with an "!" Icon. I reboot. Get the yellow splash screen, and it goes to rebooting options. I select normal reboot. Goes to yellow screen, Goes to Kindle fire splash screen, goes to lock screen. I unlock with my PW and the device immediately turns off. So I try again, this time using recovery. Same scenario. Third time I chose fastboot. Now it sticks on the yellow triangle screen and does nothing. How do I get it to boot up? Please help.
Thank you,
Kyle.
There was a new update from Amazon causing problems. You can flash a different rom or get the new update from the Amazon website and flash it, which will make everything 100% stock again without root.

Ok. I got it to boot into recovery mode. when I go to reboot system now, it goes to the yellow triangle splash, then kindle fire splash (orange fire lettering, not blue), then it brightens up, and goes to the lock screen. then immediately powers off. reboots into the yellow triangle splash, then an android robot with a loading bar that fills about 25%, to a mini android robot with an orange ! triangle.
If I have to flash a new ROM, which would you suggest?
Thank you,
Kyle.
Also, in the CWM recovery, there's a factory data reset. Will that undo the root? Or will it just wipe the memory?
???
Please advise. Currently my Kindle is stuck and I'd like to have it operational again. Even if that means re-rooting it. Does CWM Factory Reset wipe the root or just delete the memory on the device. Is that even the correct route to go? Is there an easier way to get out of this boot loop? KFU won't recognize the device because it won't power up all the way.
Thank you.
Factory reset will only wipe your user data.
To break root and restore to factory original you have to flash the latest update from Amazon.
Google "Kindle Fire software update", it will be on the Amazon website.
Change the file extension from ".bin" to ".zip" and put it on your sdcard.
Flash the new update.zip in CWM

Ok, but I still cannot add anything to my device because it will not start up in any mode, so my computer isn't recognizing the device. How do I get the computer to see the Kindle while it's "off"
I've read http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1552547 and it's not very helpful in that regard.

Soupmag, Sorry it took so long to reply; I had to pick my kid up from his mom's after work, and feed, bathe, and bed him, which is exhausting. I was at work earlier.
I can boot the device into recovery mode. The screen looks like this:
CWM-based Recovery v5. 0. 2 .7 FULL (By DooMLoRD)
Amazon Kindle Fire: v01-FINAL: Touch ed. by TUTRCHAOS
-reboot options
-Install zip from sdcard
-apply /sdcard/update.zip
-Wipe cache
-Backup and Rest.
-Mount & Strg
-advanced
-Power off
-Go Back
Build info...
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
I don't know how to get a new .zip on the /sdcard. The PC doesn't see the device, so I can't transfer. It won't boot normally from this (reboot options are norm., fast, recov.) so I'm left with trying to reinstall the .zip, but I don't know if I need to wipe b4 I try that. Or, factory reset and hope it starts in Kindle launcher. What happens next. Sorry this is so long. I just don't want to screw it up even worse or possibly brick it.
Thanks for your help and patience.

For some reason, the update will not install with CWM. I found that if you install TWRP, the update will install. I have used the commands on this page http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1568340 to successfully install TWRP and then the update installs. After that, you will have to re-root.
When it says in those instructions:
adb push fbmode /data/local/fbmode
is that a command prompt window in the kindle dir? Or a KFU Option?
adb push fbmode /data/local/fbmode
Something completely different?
Please elaborate.
Thank you.
-Kyle
There's no need to reroot. I assume you're using Windows, right? Fix your drivers so you can use adb to push a new rom to your sdcard OR mount your sdcard in TWRP and transfer it like that.
Ok Awesome. Soupmag, awesome. I don't want to un-root. How do I update my Drivers? I had the adb drivers working fine yesterday. I didn't change anything. I'm using the KindleADB drivers and when it worked. I plugged it into the PC (windows vista) it would show under ADB devices on device manager.
Thank you,
Kyle
Well first, see if you can get into recovery and mount your sdcard (Kindle plugged into the computer of course)
Ok, I'm on recovery CWN-based Recovery v5.0.2.7 FULL
There's an Android Composite ADB interface under Android Phones in Device Manager

Edit: When I shut the device down the Android Phone>Android Composite ADB Interface is removed from devices in device manager, so it has to be seeing the device, right?

While in recovery, select "mount sdcard". It should show up on your computer as external storage. Then use your computer to download whatever rom you want and transfer it to your sdcard. Just make sure its in .zip format.

i watched the video when i signed up so i really dont want to spam or anything like that but i am not too sure what exactly my problem is and if there are posts on it so i am going to ask for help.
i rooted my kindle fire and all was going well when i installed CM7 energy and my brother (i am not sure of what eexactly he did) he turned it off or something and then my android wouldnt boot, so i sorted this problem out and got it back to the factory default settings. then i put CM7 energy back onto my KF and now it comes up with the kindle fire logo, then goes into the CM7 energy launching icon and thats as far as it will go. i cannot connect it up to kindle fire utility, it cant see it. i tried giving it the fastboot commands and went through various methords for that. my computer doesnt even see it untill it starts trying to launch CM7 energy. could someone please help me?
Can you get into TWRP Recovery and clear the dalvik cache?
sadly i cant, it seems to have dissapeared when i tried to flash the new Rom
When you turn your Kindle on, what does the boot logo look like?
Should make a list of the ten most common mistakes 1. Should be using a recovery without the understanding of how to access it again.
OK I have an update to this issue. I reinstalled the drivers on my pc manually and now I can see the kindle on the Kf utility. But it can't seem to find any directory when I try any of the options. So if I try and install something it just says cannot find directory
And I never got any warrenty with it because I bought it on my holiday to America

is your kindle fire logo come up first white kindle and blue fire? If so push your power button a few times to get a boot menu select recovery this will take you into twrp where you can factory/ data reset wipe cache wipe dalvik wipe system and select the rom you tryed to install swipe to install. might be best to locate this first before doing the wipes just a suggestion. after you flash rom flash gingerbread gapps select reboot then select system boot animation takes a bit be patient should boot to an adroid screen where you can sign into google.
Also if you made a backup you might want to wipe and restore that before moving on instead of reflashing
No white kindle or blue fire you can always try sending fff you must be connected to the internet to do so.

There should be some dialogue about fetching files if not kfu is probably useless to you at this point your drivers in devices manager should say andoid composite adb interface as well.

So the KF Utility see your device, then run it to change your bootmode to recovery(5001) then install the newest version of FFF 1.4A.
From there do a factory reset then wipe Dalvik and system cache just as Thepooch stated. Then try re-installing your rom and stuff.
Use KFU to change your bootmode to recovery (5001) and reboot.
Once you're in recovery, use the mount function to mount your sdcard as USB storage and transfer FFF 1.4a to the device. Then use TWRP to install it. With FFF1.4, you can use the power button to easily access recovery and flash a new rom.
It sounds like your brother hit factory reset in TWRP and wiped out the system leaving the device nothing to boot to, hence the black (backlit) screen.
You could use KFU to install FFF, but it is ill advised. A small mistake in flashing a bootloader seriously brick your device to a state that would require pulling the back cover off.

Your helpers are suggesting you use KFU to switch the bootmode on the Kindle Fire to recovery (5001). If you can do that, the KF will (hopefully) reboot into TWRP the next time you restart the device. If you really want to figure out what's going on with your device, you should try using adb (and fastboot) directly instead of going to KFU to do it. Then you'd have a better chance of seeing what's actually happening.
This seems to be a very common problem where the system software has not booted far enough to accept adb commands and the KF cannot be put into fastboot mode. Your KF just might be in this very situation.
I suggest you take some time to read...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1552547
so you have a better idea of what the posters in this thread are saying.
If you cannot get the device to boot TWRP or enable fastboot mode, you'll want to get a factory cable.
big update to this issue, i couldnt get it to go into recovery. so i just had a quick ponder and tried to flash the origonal rom using kindle fire unbricker, it then sayed a load of stuff whic is typical but then it said changing offset to 0x something and then the kindle screen changed to the kindle fire logo and stayed there. so i then plugged into into kindle fire utility and i was able to put it into recovery. now i have it in recovery i am going to do everything you all have said and really hoping its going to work.
Thank you everyone who has helped! and it seems to be coming to a happy ending
get yourself a bootloader first and be careful what you just did could wipe out your recovery and your newly installed bootloader thats what flashing stock will do. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1632375 bootloader here.
But heck if it does boot into stock hopefully a working form of it.
problem solved
right after lots of redoing things, updating things testing roms. i can now say that if any body is stuck with the issue i have (e.g. stuck at the logo) they can open kindle unbricker and start the flash update. it should change there kindle to stay in a kindle fire logo screeen when they turn it off and on. from there they should connect it to there PC and open KF utility and install TWR and the kindle should go into that screen. then once there, factory reset and then it should go back to its normal self (before root) then i recomend downloading the new amazon update 6.3 and installing that. then flashing a new rom because this has worked very well and i am currently on AOKP i think its called, milestone 5 and it is amazing, i recomend it. thank you everyone for helping me, i appreciat everysingle comment and you lot are mirrical works for noobs like me!
Hi everyone, I have two kindle fire, I messed with both of them.
I've root them the first one has the problem with the yellow triangle logo stucked. And the other one I've tried to reset it to the factory settings and everything was cool until I hit the TWRP utility and I think I erased everything.
I've see tons of posts regarding rooting and troubleshooting related to rooting and i'm pretty sick of rooting, I think that 3 months is sufficient time, please DON'T POST anything related to rooting.
I'm here asking if anyone knows how to flash all the data ofthe kindle from the pc and been able to install the factory software, firmware (I don't know) from scratch from my pc. Anyone, please?
The first one is probably stuck in fastboot. Try giving it a go with "fastboot oem idme bootmode 4000 && fastboot reboot".
For the second one, "I think I erased everything" is as descriptive as not wanting people to post about your procedure is helpful. What exactly is going on with it? For future reference: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1644970
You should also update both FFF and TWRP on both devices once they are working normally.
If i may suggest flashing modaco first after a good wipe everything except your sdcard I believe this will make a smoother transition if you desire to return to stock before returning to stock always do a good wioe to remove remnants of previous roms download the latest stock bin and rename it to update.zip do not place it in any folder just at the root of your sdcard flash in twrp this will also wipe out twrp and fff I really dont recommend doing this lots of people fail at doing the procedure correcty modaco is stock with only the market added try this approach first then you can retain fff and twrp for custom backups.
Ok, so, I've been investigating and what I'm really looking is to erase ABSOLUTELY everything from the kindle sdcard, system, etc, everything. And I'm looking for a method to sideload from the pc the orginal stock ROM of Kindle Fire. Any clues, directions? Any fully functional software?
I really, don't want to try the adb commands (I've tried them before), nor follow any tutorial about root troubleshooting.
I'm really sick of them and of all that mal-functioning software that you have to download(Eg. (When it's not)>, Eternal loading Android Commander)
With all due respect I DON'T want any more of those, as I said, 3 months is sufficient time, I feel so frustrated.

Read from "Reverting to stock software". You can manually rename the file and then copy it into the KF instead of using ADB for it, just make sure the extension is .zip and not .zip.bin (Windows hides extensions per default settings).

To restore back to full factory
1. Download Kindle Fire Software Update Version 6.3.1
2. Rename the file to update.zip
3. Get in to TWRP and mount USB drive
4. Copy update.zip to Kindle Fire
5. Unmount USB drive
6. Do factory reset, then wipe system cache, and dalvik cache
7. Flash the update.zip
8. Let it bootloop about 3 times or so...
If you want FFF and TWRP then flash Stock 6.3.1 Basic from TWRP. This has no root or gapps.

Ahh, that's a bother. It's a pretty annoying error. Could be something messed with your TWRP (I'm assuming you tried the commands from there).
There isn't one, but there's really no need for it... you just rename the ROM to update.zip, wipe cache, dalvik-cache and factory reset, and install update.zip. If you just want to flash stock because you like it better for whatever reason, you could also just look at the MoDaCo custom ROM instead, as it is stock based.
As for the other KF... you can't get it recognized, from where? The ROM? TWRP? Fastboot?

Both of the kindles, are damaged. I can't access them. I just can access one by USB.
For future reference:
This user's issues have been partially dealt with.
The first KF will require a factory cable to be fixed.
The second KF was soft bricked (there were a few corrupt partitions) after a bad flash attempt of the stock ROM. Luckily, FFF was still installed, but the Windows fastboot drivers weren't. Reinstalled FFF+TWRP from Firekit, and then fixed the partitions, wiped and flashed the stock ROM.

Ok, So, I have the factory cable. How can I test its Ok?
I have another question, the kindle is pratically empty no system, no sdcard memory, probably corrupted ¿How do I use the factory cable, to format the Kindle and install the Stock ROM again?
With the KF off and unplugged, type "fastboot getvar product" on a shell (KFU/tools).
Then plug in the KF using the factory cable. If you get anything listed or returned, it should be working fine. Otherwise, if you wait a few seconds and still nothing, you'll have to check the drivers to make sure the correct fastboot ones are installed.
To check the partitions, you can just "fastboot boot twrp.img" to load a TWRP into memory, and then "adb shell parted /dev/block/mmcblk0 p" to print all partitions' information.

Well, I'm at my job now. So I will try this at home, but the shell is not working since system/sh (shell) it's not in the Kindle. I was trying to boot it yesterday with "fastboot boot twrp.img" and nothing. I also tried: "fastboot getvar product" and nothing but I only used the console. Anyway, let's see what happens...
Quick question, I've read that the factory cable puts the Kindle straight into bootmode, ¿So the color of the power button, has something to do with it? ¿I mean how do I know the kindle has entered factory mode? ¿The orange light is an indicator? (With a standard USB Cable I only get the green light with the power button, with the factory cable I first get green light, then orange light)
I've also read that if I can see the Kindle fire logo, the bootloader is Ok. Hence my Kindle is OK, but I can't enter fastboot mode. ¿Can anyone confirm this?
It'll get stuck in the bootloader screen, and fastboot commands should work as well, provided the drivers are properly installed and working.

OK, I've finally made myself a working factory cable. And in the device manger I can see the kindle listed as "Android phone" and in that root it says "Android ADB Interface". Look like drivers are not working. Where can I download them?
Those are the proper drivers for fastboot you should be able to use kfu to send twrp and fff to the device if that doesn't work you will need to fastboot flash them
All I get is < waiting for device>. Looks like the drivers are not installed.
Simply hold the power button down while connected when it says waiting then power it back on and it should send also try unplug replug when it says waiting

If you would like some help I have some time before work but you must finish your thread for the benefit of others
I know that this has been gone over multiple times, but I can't get any of the other threads to help so I figured I'd post my own.
Basically, I worked for Best Buy for awhile, rooted the demo Kindle Fire we got at work and that was that. So I figured I could get a demo Kindle Fire off Ebay and just get it rooted and Rom'ed. Well, I can't get the damn thing to be recognized by my computer in ADB.
I've literally tried everything, I've changed the android_usb.ini file to include the 0x1949 and the other file to have the kindle fire in it. Then I tried to point the Kindle to the new file that was changed. Everytime I update the driver it stays as the MTP Device and I can't get it to ADB Composite. I've tried the KFF and that doesn't work either. Uninstalled drivers and reinstalled with no success.
Also, it seems that every time I plug the Kindle into the computer it reinstalls the Drivers.
I do have a Factory Cable on the way so I'm hoping that that will work for me if nothing else does.
Thanks in advance all.
As long as the factory cable you speak of is the fastboot cable that is all you will need. Simply get it into fastboot, flash FFF and TWRP, transfer a Rom.zip and Gapps.zip to the sdcard, do a full wipe in recovery minus the sdcard/external storage. Flash Rom, flash Gapps and reboot. if you get it properly into fastboot your driver will read Android ADB interface. If your running windows 8 you need to disable driver signature verification in order to install the driver.

Thanks! It should be here today so I'm excited. I read all of what you've posted multiple times now in other threads, I just haven't been able to get it into fastboot so I'm really hoping that fastboot cable works for me.
Thanks for the quick reply Pooch.
Well. It's bricked. Couldn't get it to boot into twrp. After trying for awhile I decided to just flash fff as I knew the recovery was there. I get nothing now. Completely black screen and no led on power button. I've tried the whole firekit short usb with no luck. It gets past the first part but then just sits at waiting for device. So I'm lost. Is it fried?
