So I was trying to root my Droid Incredible, following the instructions from here:
androidforums(dot)com/incredible-all-things-root/427344-how-root-2-3-4-downgrade-get-s-off.html (replace the dot with a period)
And after the instructions to use unrevoked 3.22 to install a custom recovery instead of the one bundled with unrevoked (I have a SLCD screen Incredible so I had to install a custom one) but unrevoked installed the bundled one for me, along with trying to root, and now I can't boot into recovery (older version of clockworkmod gets a black screen with white bars on the side) and I also can't boot into anything besides hboot.
I can't figure out how to reflash anything, and I really need help since I need this phone fixed as soon as possible. If anyone needs more information just let me know and i'll provide all the information needed.

I've seen this before, if you flash this PB31IMG.zip through hboot then it should reload 2.3.4, granted you wont be rooted but you will have a working phone.
http://www.mediafire.com/?1ovb6959r9qyg6w
Make sure it is named exactly "PB31IMG.zip" (without the quotes) and your SD is formatted to FAT32, I would imagine that since you had already gotten to the part with flashing unrevoked that you are familiar with this already but I just want to be sure.
I don't know how, but I stumbled upon the 2.3.4 RUU last night (this morning?) and reflashed it, and holy damn, it worked. All my things were deleted from the old OS, but it's alright.
Im now running ICS with an experimental build of Cyanogenmod 9. Thank you for trying to help, I appreciate it. :good:

I was running unrevoked3 in order to full root my phone (I think it was rooted, but not nand unlocked before - I was running the Fresh Rom and want to switch to cyannogen)
After unrevoked went through two root processes, and stated "this is a triumph," the phone rebooted again and got stuck at the HTC EVO 4G white screen.
Unrevoked states ""Flashing recovery. Do not touch your phone!" So, uh, I don't want to touch my phone.
What do? Should I just pull the battery and try again? or am I going to brick the freaking thing?
It's been on the white screen for a half hour now.
Just so you know, all you had to do was flash unrevoked forever through recovery.
I think it's fine to unplug or pull the battery. Afterwards, you may need to flash recovery, but other than that you should be fine.
(from... Evo/MIUI/Tapatalk)
Hmmm. Flashing the recovery should take next to el zilcho in time.
You stated that you possibly already had root user access on your evo, but you were not sure if you had unlocked nand. Then you tried to run unrevoked again to fully root.
I believe it's a bad idea to perform a root method which is designed to perform a full root operation as if your device was fully stock, on a partial root device.
As long as the process is only trying to flash a recovery you should be OK to pull the battery.
Here are my suggestions to continue:
- Find the AmonRa PC36IMG in his thread in the dev section. Place on root of SD card. Poweroff device - Reboot into bootloader and let the recovery flash.
- If this does not work, I would recommend running a 3.70 RUU (ONLY if you are on a 3.70 ROM) and retry the root process.
Hope everything works out.
If anyone else has something to add, please do!
The first time I rooted mine, the same thing happened. I was on the IRC Channel and a few guys were talking me through it, and one guy said just pull the battery nad reboot to Hboot and reflash recovery using Amon Ra (PC36IMG Version), which I did and it was no problem.
After going to unrevoked's IRC channel, and being directed to pull the battery and then follow these instructions (since i was already S-OFF): h.ttp://noobgui.de/wiki/index.php?title=What_to_do_if_you're_S-OFF_but_can't_get_root (sorry for the broken link I'm not at the point where I can post them).
Everything seems fixed. Pretty sure that's about the same thing as what you said. Thanks.
do you have S-off or the NEWEST 2.3.3 OS?
If you are S-on and on 2.3.3 why the hell are you trying to run UNREVOKED AGAIN, you cannot gain root throught that method because it doesn't work with the NEW HBOOT.
If you have S-off DOWNLOAD AMON RA NEWEST RECOVERY and put it on your SD CARD
Pull the battery from your phone put the battery back in, HOLD VOLUME DOWN and POWER on the PHONE you will be in the RECOVERY screen now let the PC36IMG.zip install and you will regain THE FULL RECOVERY and be able to flash any rom you desire, if you need ROOT all you have to do is INSTALL the SUPER USER & BUSY BOX from recovery to have a fully rooted 2.3.3
OR After installing Amon Ra's Recovery Image, just flash the Deoexed 2.3.3 over your current 2.3.3 you will be deoxed and full rooted and you wont have to reinstall any apps or change your current arrangement

My dumb-ass should have told you to go to their IRC channel. Those guys are real quick to be helpful. Good deal getting it working.
Ok I'm going to try to explain this as simply as I can. First let me start by stating that I have searched high and low through XDA and about a dozen other websites in two hours with NO luck.
First, I downloaded CM7 and installed ClockWorkMod Recovery.
Second, I had it reboot in to recovery only to find myself staring a black screen with white bars. Upon further research I come to find that this panel type (slcd) is incompatible with recovery console (RLY?!) and that I am looking at the recovery console, its just blocked by a huge black image.
Third, I take it upon myself and figure I can just use ADB/SDK to flash this friggin' thing through the CMD prompt. But Ha-Ha this is not possible as I have S-ON listed in the HBOOT Menu
Fourth, I found a way to switch to S-OFF but come to find two things. One, this requires use of the recovery console which is inaccessible to me. Secondly, under the "Compatibility" list for the Droid Inc1 on Unrevoked Forever's site, it does not have the most recent Radio listed (Mine is currently 2.15.10.10.07.07 and theres no way in hell I'm attempting this with that said)
Does anyone have any suggestions or should I just give up?
Since your s-on you will need to do an ruu.exe, the one with your pc. (http://pvillecomp.com/?page_id=22) This will get you back to stock recovery. If you then want to go s-off you will need to downgrade with scottys downgrade tutorial found in the general section i believe, and then use unrevoked to gain s-off and root.
Thank you sir
I already had root through Unrevoked 1-click, I'll try this and see if I can flash Cyanogen through the ADB Shell.
Thanks!

I am not sure what you mean by having root and CM7? You mention in the OP that you still have S-ON? Not sure how you rooted and flashed an alternate ROM with S-ON...

I think you might be confusing S-off with Root, the two are not synonymous.
I had s-on the entire time, I just realized it about a month ago, I still had recovery, custom roms, ect.
hey i just got a droid incredible from my sister (not going to use it as a phone) and i would like to root it and flash a custom ROM, im sorta know about rooting and flashing but i keep looking for ways to root this phone and its way difficult for me. i am not about to use adb or android sdk for some reason they never work with methods for my other phones. not sure how to get to recovery just goes to a hboot screen which i see is normal. a lot of the links are broken on methods to root i see that unrevoked dosent work with 2.3.4. and im really frustrated with this phone. it has 2.3.4. S-ON and hboot 1.0.7 i don't know how to do the radio stuff please help.

The only way to root 2.3.4 is to unlock your bootloader using htcdev unlock, then use fastboot (an android sdk program) to flash a custom recovery. Once you have the recovery installed, you can flash a rom of your choosing. There are no one click options available since the inc got gingerbread. It requires a bunch of steps, but isnt all that hard. Here is a working guide if you decide to take the plunge. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1506258. Note that you do not need s-off to flash a rom, but you do need s-off to flash radios, hboots, and splash screens.
Deleted. Stupid post by Stupid me
I'll make a *really* long story short and just say this:
1) I am running a custom ROM on my Droid Incredible (Skyraider)
2) I used Unrevoked to obtain S-OFF originally
3) I am running CWM 5.0.2.0, and HBOOT 0.92
In my attempts to flash a different ROM somewhere, somehow, HBOOT is now reporting S-ON. Ouch! Not sure how that can happen as I am still a newbie at all this.
Unfortunately the well documented approaches to gaining S-OFF (Unrevoked3, HTC Dev website) all require you to boot up the system. My problem is that, at the moment, when I boot up I get to a "Welcome to ADR6300" screen where you are supposed to touch the Android to continue, but no matter what I do I can't get past that welcome screen.
I can run "adb" and connect to the device, even though I can't get past the "welcome" screen.
So I guess I have 2 questions:
1) How to get past that welcome screen? (Tried touching four corners)
or, better
2) How to get back to S-OFF given that I do have CWM installed?
Thanks much

ok - dug myself out by remember that a phone with S-ON will still install a 100% stock image.
For posterity:
1) found an older gingerbread stock one, but hboot failed to load (saying main version was older)
2) found newer stock ones from here: dinc.does-it.net Stock_Images/4.08.605.15/
3) put new image on sdcard...renamed to PB31IMG.zip...rebooted with volume key down to get into HBOOT
4) HBOOT immediately scanned, recognized, asked if I wanted to install the image
5) Oddly -- installation failed the first time, miraculously worked the second time
Postmordem:
wow....HTC now supports use of phone without verizon service
double wow -- got the latest update for it as well
phone no longer rooted, but working great...I can take it from here
I've got a droid incredible that I am trying to get back to stock but I am having a tough time since this phone is so old and the guides I can find are outdated. I have s-off but I do not have a custom recovery installed and without one I can't seem to flash anything. I have tried this, but this assumes you have root and custom recovery already installed. Any idea on where to start would be greatly appreciated. The phone is currently at Android version 2.2.
Let's see if I can help you out

Better late than never, right?
First off, do you have a custom ROM installed? If so, which ROM? And also, does this ROM boot? I.E. can you still use the device? Also, may I ask why you want to take away root? This can be very handy for uninstalling bloatware/system apps and modifying the system to your liking. (Which I would say is even more important now that the phone is so outdated.)
Also, since you're rooted, you may have luck installing ROM Manager by ClockworkMod - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.koushikdutta.rommanager and then using the "Flash ClockworkMod Recovery" at the top of the app.
Let me know if this helps
