[Q] JB Battery performance - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Hi!
Just wondering if someone has tested the battery performance for JB compared to stock ICS 4.0.4.

Less than 24 hours is not long enough for any definitive tests.

Too soon too compare... :screwy:
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2

I've plugged a car battery to my nexus with jelly bean, and for now I have 99% using it for 7 hours. So far so good
Now seriously, jb is so recent...
Sent from my Jelly Belly using xda premium

if you connect phone to mobile version of nuclear reactor... you will never have to charge it again... EVER!!!!!!!!
and for the this first day of use... playing with phone every day (I have my nexus one week old now, so Ive got new battery), Im on 37 percent left now, but its a really very very early to compare

My phone is down to 47% with 4 hours in, and an hour and twelve minutes on screen..but it is my first charge, And stock kernel.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium

So far 10.5 hours and 1:45 screen time I'm at 48%.
Pretty much the same as ICS for me.

JB has been brutal on my battery life so far.
See the graph below. The dips Down are consumption. The far right is jelly bean... see how much more it drops down? It's using more battery power.

I wonder if that is due to the new governor that instantly ramps the CPU to max speeds when a touch event is sensed or expected.

With bixie's ROM and the stock kernel, I'm estimated to get 4 hours screen on time which is excellent. Pretty much the same I've gotten with ICS.

Maybe it's just because your screen is on more since you're still "exploring/fiddling"

It's actually much better for me than ICS - already 4 hours of screen time (68%) and I'm still left with 35% battery.
This is quite impressive to me because I could barely make it to 4 hours on stock 4.04.

Well, I'd believe that if the "normal ICS" dips was off-screen usage, but they are the same apps I used before and after.
I'll wait a few days, since JB is likely doing some background processing for its new features, but I can say the device was running hot since installing it.

Well I got an app to measure CPU usage and jb certainly does ramp up the CPU to 100% when simply dragging your finger across the screen.
I wonder how Google offset the battery loss caused by this. I'd certainly take ICS smoothness ( which wasn't bad) for longer battery life.

Since upgrading, my battery is being punished by Media service - it's used over 60% in a couple of hours!
Something not quite right here. I didn't format the SD partition when I updated (but I did do data/system etc. Maybe I need to format the SD too, but I don't see an option in CM for that?

Huge battery drain from the screen?

I've noticed that the screen on my Nitro HD seems to use a ridiculous amount of battery, even at ~20% brightness.
With the screen off most of the time, I can get pretty decent battery life:

However, with the screen on, the battery seems to drain at a rate of 1% every ~1-2 minutes, even at low brightness settings. You can actually see it in the screenshot above...the sharp downward sloping sections are when the screen was on.
Is anyone else experiencing similar battery drain from the screen, or is my particular screen defective in some way?
It is a consequence of using of hi quality ips display in this phone...
My phone is being abnormally horrible today.. This is absolutely ridiculous,i can see the battery bar just draining by looking at it. I took screen shots but for some reason it says incorrect file extension,i don't usually have any problems.

The problem is the ICS rom your using, which im assuming is CM9. Thats one of the problems everybody is having with it, and it will eventually go away as bugs are fixed and updates are released.
I'm expecting it to be fixed CM9 RC1, it may not be, but i dont see why RC would release a non-nightly with such a huge widespread problem.
I'm in stock..

My battery is draining like insane. I can see with my eyes how its draining. Does anyone know how to fix this. I had all the galaxy s2's and other phones none of them did this.

Yeah I've had bad battery life with this phone too. Especially after flashing a new rom or with the stock rom but I have noticed that the battery life was great with ho!no!'s first rom. Now with cm9 and the nightlies I can't judge it because I'm always flashing the new update. I've noticed that roms need to "settle in" and that after a few days the battery is better.

New galaxy nexus user

I got new GN and it is very good but one thing is ruin it and it is battery life example an hour ago I took phone from charger and it was 95 and kept it in my pocket for half an hour and just loses 3 % and then played scramble with friend 4 games and now battery is 77%.
Even my old galaxy s would use less than that

i dont know if this will work, but test this and then let me know if it makes a difference (you'll need to spend a whole day testing this) not just an hour
go to settings -> developer options -> in the apps section at the bottom put a checkmark on "don't keep activities"
then do a comparison
one day with it with normal phone use, and one day without it with normal phone use
I will try it tomorrow
Can you take a look at this and compare it with yours cuz screen is consuming so much
Screen is on manual and lowest brightness and wireless is off and GPS off

Pictures aren't showing up for me but the battery life is horrid on this thing. The screen is gigantic and beautiful its the trade off we all took
Edit they loaded. Looks like my usage more or less.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA
why don't you go a few days and post your usage with normal full-day stats? You can't look at a couple of hours of usage and say it sucks. Also, why are you on EDGE? You're gonna burn more screen sitting waiting for things to load on EDGE than just using HSPA+.
But battery life is a well known "issue". The screen eats battery. Turn off live wallpapers and turn down brightness. Do all of your general battery saving things (turn off WiFi, BT, etc. when not in use) and you'll see battery life improve.
The most you can expect with "normal" (which is suggestive) usage is probably 18 hours total with 3.5hrs screen on. More than likely something like 13-15 hours.

Roms aren't going to affect battery life as much as kernel will. As far as kernels I love Franco kernel. I used to use faux with a good experience.

The battery? Yeah... They're sold from plenty of Korean eBay sellers. Official branded Samsung batteries.
And since you're on GSM, its 2000mAh (instead of stock 1750mAh). The Verizon one is 2100mAh (instead of stock 1850mAh). They are NOT compatible.

Jellybean batt life observation

Seems jb batt life is pretty bad. 2%/hr idle. Alot of wake locks also from maps and networklocator. :Im assuming all from google now?
Noticed that over the last 24 hours battery life was worse than usual while I was on jellybean. Think you are probably right that Google now is the culprit, I really hope that it gets better before the ota but at the moment it just doesn't seem like it will be worth "upgrading".

Well, it must be Google Now. I turned it off and my battery is relatively the same as it was before. When using background location update, you can expect it to drain battery a little. Google Now uses your location data quite a bit.

I thought JB was pretty good on the battery from my experiences. Did my overnight sleep test and it drained 3% in 8 hours just like ICS did.
As for screen on time, I feel that it's even better than before.

I'm getting pretty good batterylife with JB. Over 10 hours on battery and over 3 hours of screentime and I still got 40% left with 2000mah oem battery.
I have yet to flash JB, but one thing concerns me. Is this not just a dev preview and not the final product that will be pushed out mid-July? Not to sound harsh, but I don't see why complaints are being made about battery life at this stage of JB. Just my 2 cents, fyi...

My battery life is no different.
You also have to remember this is a developers preview build and not the official release.

My battery life over the ~12 hours i had jelly installed seemed the same. Good standvy times also. I think it will depend on how much of the new stuff google added you use that will determine battery life. Some of that stuff will make a big impact.

If you are getting bad battery life and wake issues, check your apps. I've heard LightFlow was causing wakelocks b/c it isn't optimzied for JB yet. I've deleted it until they can get it updated. So far, my battery life hasn't been great b/c I can't keep my hands off of it
Yeah, I would agree that battery life seems pretty good. It seems a little worse on Franco.kernel than stock, but hey, it's a new kernel and he is still trying to get all the kinks worked out. Also, no wakelocks on Light Flow, but I hope they update it soon, lots of my notifications stopped working.
Ehh I don't think its terrible at 2% an hour. Better than 10% an hour. I'll take a little drain for the beauty of JB
Sent from my JellyBelly Gnex
IMO I think it's draining a little fast, but I think that's because I keep flashing kernels and add-ons which reboots and causes the battery to drain super fast... and I've been messing with apps a lot too. So I'm gonna give it another day or two for a definitive answer.

I don't understand what people expect??? They want to have an awesome huge screen, fast processor, 4G speeds, want to run apps like crazy and then have Google Now constantly updating and expect the battery to last all day?? People just need to be realistic!
I'm completely stock and my battery is almost the same. Think it's a bit early to tell yet, we've all been playing more with the new rom
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
I am under the impression that the drain is slightly higher than on ICS, I am now 5,5 hours after charging, with 88% left (and a screen time of 18mins). On ICS I would be around 90 to 93% (with the 2000mAh battery). But nothing really to worry about.
Having said that, I did have lightflow installed and it did show in the wakelock screen, so I uninstalled that to see if the next charge gives me even better endurance.

Is my battery okay?

My screen has only been on 2 hour 20 mins that is like 1/4 of 8 hours of screen time...? Or do you mean the phone itself being online then it would be 10hours.
Your battery life is normal with the signal readings that are shown in the screenshot. You are showing almost no signal for most of the 10 hours, that will drastically drain your battery. You could probably get another hour of screen time out of that 14%. That would give you almost 12 hours on a full charge with a weak signal. I have also found the stock ROMs to have longer battery life so far than the cm/aokp ROMs, at least on this phone so far. Once they get the cm/aokp ROMs 100%, they will probably yield better battery life.

8 hours of screen on time?!?!?!?!? If I get 3 hours it's a miracle. I've never heard of anyone getting a solid 8 hours of actual screen on time. I don't think I'd get that even if the phone was on airplane mode.
try logging out of lattitude
It depends entirely on the ROM and kernel. With stock TouchWiz I can get close to 8 hours. With the latest CM10 I'm also getting close to 8 hours screen time. With KT747 and CM9 and an over clock to 1890 MHz, I got around 5 hours screen time a couple weeks ago.

Battery drains fast for the first 20-25% on Jelly Bean

Hey All,
I hope someone here can help me out. I am on stock rooted JB and the batter drains extremely fast for the first 20%. In about an hour I am down to about 75-80% left. Then it slows down. Also when I unplug the charger the battery immediately looses 5%. I might have to go back to Ginger Bread because this update is so buggy.
I m having the same issue.
Was having 2-days battery life with ICS.
Update to JB with new TMobile radio. Battery lift drop so fast. Only for 1-day. Same usage. Now back to ICS. Still cant get 2-days battery life. Any one has the same problem?
Sent from my SGH-T989D using xda app-developers app
I switched back to Ginger bread. JB has nice features but its too buggy and everything crashed even after a factory reset and debloat.
It will take a couple of days (a week maybe) until the phone settles down into its own. Until that time you will see very random battery stats. It has happened to me on every new OS I have ever flashed. Several reboots followed by a ten minute "no touch" helps me. Meaning boot the phone, let it sit for ten minutes, reboot the phone, let it sit for another ten minutes, etc. After about four reboots like this my battery becomes more stable and predictable.
Same problem. My battery drop so much. I used deep sleep battery saver but seem cant help more.

I froze or uninstalled everything there is to freeze and uninstall. The only thing that syncs is the email every 30 min. Thats it. You used the phone quite heavily? You barely have any screen on time. That is not heavy at all.
What the stats don't show is that my screen was on for at least 2 hours that morning while I was trying to restore GB from backups. It took at least 5 attempts to get it to work properly.
