Battery drains fast for the first 20-25% on Jelly Bean - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989

Hey All,
I hope someone here can help me out. I am on stock rooted JB and the batter drains extremely fast for the first 20%. In about an hour I am down to about 75-80% left. Then it slows down. Also when I unplug the charger the battery immediately looses 5%. I might have to go back to Ginger Bread because this update is so buggy.

I m having the same issue.
Was having 2-days battery life with ICS.
Update to JB with new TMobile radio. Battery lift drop so fast. Only for 1-day. Same usage. Now back to ICS. Still cant get 2-days battery life. Any one has the same problem?
Sent from my SGH-T989D using xda app-developers app

I switched back to Ginger bread. JB has nice features but its too buggy and everything crashed even after a factory reset and debloat.

It will take a couple of days (a week maybe) until the phone settles down into its own. Until that time you will see very random battery stats. It has happened to me on every new OS I have ever flashed. Several reboots followed by a ten minute "no touch" helps me. Meaning boot the phone, let it sit for ten minutes, reboot the phone, let it sit for another ten minutes, etc. After about four reboots like this my battery becomes more stable and predictable.

Same problem. My battery drop so much. I used deep sleep battery saver but seem cant help more.

Sounds like you guys might have have some rogue apps but also it does take a little time for the ROM to settle in
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-T989 using xda premium

I froze or uninstalled everything there is to freeze and uninstall. The only thing that syncs is the email every 30 min. Thats it. I am a light user and on GB I get 3 days of battery life on a single charge. After this update I cant get half a day. I never heard of ROM that needs to settle, is it like a new puppy or something

Damn that's crazy I've never seen 2 days
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-T989 using xda premium

On GB for 12 hours with 70% left. I have been using the phone quite heavily today. I can usually get about 3 days out of it with light use an only email sync.

You used the phone quite heavily? You barely have any screen on time. That is not heavy at all.

What the stats don't show is that my screen was on for at least 2 hours that morning while I was trying to restore GB from backups. It took at least 5 attempts to get it to work properly.

+1 to that! 3 days is crazy!
megaforcer: Can you please post screenshots with battery lasting 3 days?
Also, what GB ROM are you using for that kind of life?

I was getting life like that until I upgraded my ROM to Calkulin's 2.0. Heres a screen shot.
BlStboy your battery life is normal for sure. Im am totally obsessed you could say with battery life. I was getting 5+ hours on stock rom with stock kernel and then tried out star burst and it went to 3 1/2 average. On caulkin's its the same but with much better performance and reliability. Idk why stock gave me such good life. But i know i. Like caulkin's the best because his is a bit smoother over stock and allows more tweeks. Ill upload my current this. Minute battery screenie's for you buddy. One sec
Here are the pics i promised. Almost exactly the same as yours. ICS should increase battery life some i imagine as its all hardware accelerates and new OS's always provide better battery tweaks. Hope thia helps, if it does dont mind hittinf the thanks button
EDIT- the only reason it shows my battery life at 24% is because i stuck my gf's battery in because my battery was at 4% and i didnt want it to die while i uploaded the pictures to you
im currently on 35hours and at 18%. i am runnning Calkulin's 2.0 (not bare) and ek02 modem. also right after installing 2.0 i charged my battery with wall charger to 100%, then quickly plugged into my PC until it said 100%. then i pulled the battery out for 100 seconds then rebooted. i am currently still on that cycle.
Thanks for the replys guys as soon as I get my jig im installing culkin 2.0 :-D I wanted to wait for an official ota so I wont get stuck like the eg31

5+ hours? I watch netflix with 30% brightness for 6 hours and then my phone dies. But i get at least 14-18 hours out of my phone with heavy usage. Blazing ROM EG31 Modem.
Wipe battery stats and calibrate.
It's a good day when I get over 12 hours w/ ~2-3 hours of screen on time (calk's rom). Quite disappointing, but better than the 6-8 hours I used to get on stock before calibration.
...
I've only had the phone for about 2 days now. With just a few short calls and quite heavy wifi use (customizing!), I think I got around 5-6 hours? I could be wrong though..
I've honestly been getting different results fairly regularly. I spent about two weeks on Calkulin's 1.5a, and during that time I had days where I would go twenty-six hours before getting to 10%; today, I'm at just under five hours and sititng at 73%. I cannot get consistency from it.

6 hours screen on?

Sure sure it's with light use, but just the fact that it can hit 6+ hours screen time after more than a day and a half... sits pretty well with me.
No games, 30% screen brightness, 74 mins of calls, quite a bit of texting & whatsapp, 30 odd mins browsing, wifi 100%, sync on, only 1 widget.
aokp, lean kernel, undervolted, K6, extended battery.
Loving this phone!!!

Not bad at all! Especially considering 74min of phone calls.
NICE!!! Can't wait till my extended battery comes in.
Nice. I've had my extended battery for 2 days now and I am seriously impresses ed with it. It on my drive home I'm at 65% instead of 30%. I really think the extended battery should of come stock.
I got a similar 6 hour in airplane mode. I was watching a movie while roaming on vacation.
Verizon stock rom. stock battery.
Even stock SGN makes wonders with battery on Wi-Fi But still your stats are truly amazing

No, he didn't? Look closer on first screenshot. There is no sign of charging on those lines below the graph. Those places where graph line goes up are pretty normal and that doesn't mean device war charging.

Nah I didn't charge it at all, as the other guys pointed out. I remember my battery dropping to 4%, I then put down my phone and when I came back later on, it was reading 5%. I thought I was going crazy, but looking at the graph now I see it really did happen. It raised from 4% to 5% and stayed there for a bit before dropping to 4% again.
Anyway, I hope this wasn't a one off... it's not doing as well today with the same usage. We'll see...

Actually, the phone calls don't do much damage... You should be able to talk 11hours on this phone apparently...
I am very jealous. I am lucky to get 3-3.5 of web surfing.
With standard battery, you can get almost 11 hours screen on time (by doing nothing):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1366878&highlight=max+battery
So, that's the limit
My experience with extended battery, 2000 mAH, GSM, I could get 4 and a half screen on time with 61 hours stand by time. For sure, it can go down to 6 hours or more screen on time if I down the standby time. All with stock ROM, stok kernel, un-locked
It is not difficult to achieve that knowing the limit, all depends on how you set it up and how do you use your phone.

Huge battery drain from the screen?

I've noticed that the screen on my Nitro HD seems to use a ridiculous amount of battery, even at ~20% brightness.
With the screen off most of the time, I can get pretty decent battery life:

}
However, with the screen on, the battery seems to drain at a rate of 1% every ~1-2 minutes, even at low brightness settings. You can actually see it in the screenshot above...the sharp downward sloping sections are when the screen was on.
Is anyone else experiencing similar battery drain from the screen, or is my particular screen defective in some way?
It is a consequence of using of hi quality ips display in this phone...
My phone is being abnormally horrible today.. This is absolutely ridiculous,i can see the battery bar just draining by looking at it. I took screen shots but for some reason it says incorrect file extension,i don't usually have any problems.

The problem is the ICS rom your using, which im assuming is CM9. Thats one of the problems everybody is having with it, and it will eventually go away as bugs are fixed and updates are released.
I'm expecting it to be fixed CM9 RC1, it may not be, but i dont see why RC would release a non-nightly with such a huge widespread problem.
I'm in stock..

Yeah I've had bad battery life with this phone too. Especially after flashing a new rom or with the stock rom but I have noticed that the battery life was great with ho!no!'s first rom. Now with cm9 and the nightlies I can't judge it because I'm always flashing the new update. I've noticed that roms need to "settle in" and that after a few days the battery is better.

8 hours screen on time is about the norm for the phone from a full charge to empty.

My screen has only been on 2 hour 20 mins that is like 1/4 of 8 hours of screen time...? Or do you mean the phone itself being online then it would be 10hours.
Your battery life is normal with the signal readings that are shown in the screenshot. You are showing almost no signal for most of the 10 hours, that will drastically drain your battery. You could probably get another hour of screen time out of that 14%. That would give you almost 12 hours on a full charge with a weak signal. I have also found the stock ROMs to have longer battery life so far than the cm/aokp ROMs, at least on this phone so far. Once they get the cm/aokp ROMs 100%, they will probably yield better battery life.

8 hours of screen on time?!?!?!?!? If I get 3 hours it's a miracle. I've never heard of anyone getting a solid 8 hours of actual screen on time. I don't think I'd get that even if the phone was on airplane mode.
try logging out of lattitude
It depends entirely on the ROM and kernel. With stock TouchWiz I can get close to 8 hours. With the latest CM10 I'm also getting close to 8 hours screen time. With KT747 and CM9 and an over clock to 1890 MHz, I got around 5 hours screen time a couple weeks ago.

I get about 8-24 hours depending on usage and location, I'd average it at around 12-14 hours.
Using CM11.
This really depends on use...
If I'm playing games alot during the day, it's maybe ~ 8 hours... if I'm just using it as a device to check e-mail, chat with my wife, and view twitter... it's probably closer to 12-16 hours. Many days at work, I hit the end of the day with ~ 10-15% battery left and that's ~ 18 hours?

I should have grabbed a screen shot last night... had ~ 13-15 hours... had talked on the phone for over an hour, listened to music for close to 5 hours while working on cleaning the house... Plus periodic e-mails from two different accounts and other misc stuff... basically I was at ~ 17% when I plugged it in last night.
This is a very light usage day. Was at the auto show all day using my DSLR instead of this. But I'd say its still impressive. I'm using AOKP with allsparks cm kernel.

This is my battery status. Anyone here faced "Media Server" problem before? This problem annoyed me a long time. I have tried many solution / method, but no luck. :crying::crying::crying:
GPS is the ultimate killer.... I lose 14%-15% every 30min when using GPS, included LTE, Bluetooth and Screen, turned on.... Other than that its not bad for daily use.....
Since paying attention to my battery life because of this thread, I found that HD widgets was consuming an unreasonable amount of battery life (after turning off my GPS, this suddenly became my top application...)
Basically, in many cases I expect the screen to be the top talker - say 3-4 hours of screen on-time... I've been only getting just over 2 hours... which doesn't seem even close to what I'd expect... I want to say with .67 I was getting more than 3 hours of screen on time on a regular basis, and a few times around 4.
I need to wipe and start from scratch... but Sony's rumored releases and delayed releases for their software versions drive me nuts. I mean the latest 4.3 (101) hasn't officially dropped yet for the 6506, and 4.4 is rumored to hit sometime mid march... Not sure what to think or do...
Oh, and if you're having an issue with Mediaserver - that can be one of several things... could be a corrupt image, could be a flaky MP3... try wiping the cache for your media server and reboot and see if it straightens out AFTER it's cached everything...
Pretty decent i say... love the stamina mode
Is it normal for the OS to consume so much though?
