Adds kexec support using source built Sprint kernel
v4 released 6/30/2012
Located the bug preventing /data/media from being exluded. The internal sdcard will no longer be included in nandroid backups, so you may freely use the space without creating excessively large backup files.
v3 released 6/29/2012
Rebuilt and backups re-tested
Built from Sprint SGS3 binary kernel
Adds volume key scrolling
Adds support for external sdcards
v1 released 6/22/2012
Built from AT&T SGS3 I747UCALEM binary kernel.
TODO list
Fix backup datestamp.
Does it have external SD support?
Unless I miss my guess (I haven't rooted yet, I am waiting a bit longer to see if they find a way to do it without tripping the sensor), you can change what the phone mounts the external sdcard as in the vold.fstab to whatever makes you happy. Worked that way on the Atrix anyway.

Glad to see you have switched over to the SGS3 as well my friend. Still keeping my Atrix as a full time tablet in the lapdock...
EDIT: Hope to see a nice Aura stock ROM for this SGS3 from you hopefully...
Thanks for the link.
tried it on my Samsung Galaxy SIII S3 SGH-i747m and it went A+++++++++++++
Rooted + CWM.
Have a nice day
I can also confirm that this works (AT&T).
DoCoMo
For some reason it did not work fully on my DoCoMo Japan SGS3. It flashes "Recovery Booting...." then boots into ICS or hangs until I pull battery.
Rogers SGH-I747M
Worked perfectly on my Rogers SGH-I747M.
One issue, though, and I reported this also in the other thread about CWM Recovery on the AT&T unit ... is the fact that all my Nandroid backups are dated 1970-01-01. Strange!

Not working for me. Flash goes fine, then I got a black screen and a vibrate then a reboot when trying to get into recovery. I try re-download the file and reflash (3 times) with the same results all the time.

to access recovery you have to hold VOLUME UP + HOME + POWER and then when the phone turns on you stop holding power and keep holding the other 2 keys

Just installed on my at&t SGIII, works great, backups/restores work from both internal and external sdcards.

The CWM or Team Win recoveries will not stick after rebooting the phone with w OTA update. There is a way of making recovery stick on the rooted OTA update. Does anyone know the correct files to freeze or erase for the new recoveries to stick?????
Is there another way of these recoveries to stick besides flashing a custom Rom??

I have root, I have Goo Manager, I'm on a completely stock rooted rom and every time you reboot the new OTA software over writes the custom recovery to the stock Android recovery. If you have a custom rom this will not happen, only on a stock, rooted OTA latest update rom. Others are having the same issue.
Vinny
What methods did you use to install the ota and root?
Have you tried flashing the stock rooted version wildchld released?

I waited for the OTA update then used Odin to flash root, did not reboot after flashing with Odin, pulled battery, then went right to recovery and flashed super user.zip file. I rooted my phone the right way. This is my 2nd SGS3 and didn't have this problem with the 1st one because it had the older build. This is not a problem if you are on a custom build. Only stock, rooted with latest OTA build.

Guys, I have seen this on my GF's GSII (Sprint) as well as on my nexus 7. They are placing a file called recovery-from-boot.p in the /system/ directory that overwrites recovery on every boot. I put a guide a few post up that outlines the issue when I saw it on my GF's phone.
Personally my T-Mobile has been fine, but this scenario I have dealt with before. So don't flame that bad.
The bottom line is that without some custom modding, if you're running the official stock OTA update, stock kernel, etc, standard CWM recovery is not going to stick.
Plain and simple.

Ok, both files were present as described in your guide.
Renamed both to:
recovery-from-boot.bak
install recovery.sh.bak
Reflashed CWM through ROM Manager. Rebooting now, then will try power off & booting into recovery. Hang tight
*Edit: Worked like a charm. Gentlemen, we have the solution. Thanks due (and given) to cybrnook both here and in the guide

I would argue, I have a stock rooted rom, stock kernel and I update to the new OTA update via Kies and TWRP has stuck every boot since then. I even tested it again when I saw this thread as it made me unsure.

Maybe the Kies version is different than the OTA.
Maybe TWRP overwrites or renames/deletes the files causing it.
But you can't argue with my posts, because I said official OTA update, and CWM.

No worries, but for clarification to all the read this thread. The update from Kies is the exact same Official update as the OTA, so if you have not been prompted for the update yet from T-Mo, just install Kies on your PC and plus your phone in, it will prompt you for the update.
I have another guide I made for that:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1842142
For the recovery, installing twrp or CWM wont remove the two files I listed. This is done manually. I know on the sprint side, they made a root Super User package that swiped those off specific to the sprint phone. But I opted away from that for my GF as I Prefer SuperSU and am anal retentive about installing something I don't want and uninstalling it.

ingenious, it's not present on all phones. Like mine for example, I have been fine since day 1 of owning the phone. But my GF's sprint phone had the persistent install present.
It's strange, some phones don't have it at all, some only have the .p file, and some have both. I have not found the common denominator yet.

I want to be able flash my old kernel back to fix this problem but i can't even access my internal drive! I tried installing Gs3 stock kernel with Odin by converting it into a .tar file but it's always failing with Odin. I think if i place the file onto the external sd card i can see it with CWM, but i don't have one. Please help!

How can this be done? And if i do install a new rom, Does my kernel turn back to default?
Do you have cwm installed?can you access recovery? If so just restore a nandroid. Hopefully you made one before you started doing something silly like experimenting with kernels you had no idea would work or not. Otherwise just wipe and reflash frosty. The same thing happens to me when I try experimenting with ktoonz on different roms. If its a nogo it will jist black screen and play boot sounds. Or you can download a rom place it on your external and flash from there in recovery. Don't think you really need to odin back.

Thanks! That actually worked! I was researching the whole day!
Glad it worked for you, bud.
No problem!
I am sorry if this has been discussed before, and I do remember reading about it somewhere here on XDA, but it seems my entire file system is messed up. I was on Omega 10 before, then went to CM10.1 and back to Omega. Now, it seems I have a folder 0 inside my SD card which has duplicate folders as the ones in the SDCard folder itself.
I would think the only way to fix this would be a complete wipe of the system and reflashing a ROM? Is yes, then how do I go about doing it? Is there any other way? I am really getting frustrated with this
TIA
Back up, format the internal SD through twrp then install the omega ROM again.

3. Flashed Stock firmware through ODIN
4. Rerooted and all that good stuff from toolkit (thanks MSkip)

Yea I was in the same boat too...on the S3 the aosp ROMs seemed good because you didn't have to worry about the spen features and such plus it suited the screen size. However after trying aosp on the note 2 it just made the phone less than what its meant to be. So I went back to using custom stock ROMs. so far omega is the way.

Hi, new here and new to Android. My mate convinced me to jump ship from iPhone and get a Note II and I love it. The best phone I have ever had. But now I am way above my head here. I gained root with Chainfires CF Auto Root and installed mobile Odin. Installed a version of Aroma Rom found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2093080
I installed everything and worked perfect but I didn't like the moto theme i installed within it so went back to mobile Odin to go through the process again but this time it is stuck at the loading screen. Gets passed the GT-N7105T screen and goes to the ANDROID load screen, but does nothing else.
I initially backed up my EFS but forgot to do the Nandroid. Really need help... Thanks in advance.
Is there any way I can do a restore or anything? I can get to the Vol Up, home, power and vol down, home, power menus. Go to work in about 1 hour so fingers crossed I can get some ideas at the end of my shift.

There is a thread which have pre rooted stock roms but flashable via odin only. Correct me if im wrong. Try downloadbany of the chefs rom for yur model. Usually it comes rooted. Try n see if that helps. Other than that try repartition yur phone using pit file

Hi,
My guess is the ROM got stuffed somehow.
If you can get in to cwm recovery, try doing a full wipe and flashing a new ROM.
If u can't get in to cwn, download a stock rom for your model, from WWW.sammobile.com
Install Odin on your PC (it should come in the zip that the ROM came in)
Then boot your phone in to download mode (home button + volume down + power button )
Plug your phone in to PC
Open Odin, you should see a blue box showing your phones connected.
Now depending upon if the ROM is single or 3 file, u will need to do one of the following:
If its single file, select the PDA tab in Odin, and select the ROM u downloaded. Then click start.
If its 3 file, click on the tabs PDA, PHONE, CSC, and select the corresponding files with the same name.
Then click start.
The may also be a pit file in the ROM tar file, don't flash that. As it can cause a hard brick.
If what I said doesn't work, let me know, and the is a few other things u can try.
Cheers
Corey

To make nandroid backup you First need to flash advanced recovery (cwm/TWRP)
After this you will have option to backup in recovery menu.

Hi,
I am pretty sure the n7105t and n7105 are the same, but just have different SARS values (work on different networks and need different rils and modems).
If that is the case, you could just download build prop editor from the android market, or just use a text editor, and change the device ID to n7105.
Then you could flash the recovery from ROM manager.
I used to have a galaxy s2 that was the T variant, and the only difference on that from the standard model was the sar values.
Alternatively you can just download a .tar recovery, and flash it thru Odin.

Dommage reported above.
TWRP seems to be more functional over cwm from me using both in the last year.

Right - I missed the edited part above.
Pulled the trigger, and 2nd that. Works fine on my Rogers phone. Haven't tried flashing any ROMs yet, but it appears to behave as expected.
Ready for that "Nexus experience" ROM that hopefully shows up on/around June 25th...

thanks! worked on my Fido GS4
Which method is preferable, Motochopper or CF-Auto-Root. I'm not concerned which is easier or faster, just wondering if they gain ROOT in different ways and if one method has pro's compared to the other.
I know CF-Auto-Root doesn't flash a custom recovery, but that is easy enough with GooManager.
I would recommend to use this method that work fine on my bell s4 and didn't trip the counter and keep mine status official.
