[Q] Internet Connection Problem (3G) - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989

Firstly, I'm using this phone with different sim card.
My problem is, when I got low signal (i.e 2 of 4) I can not use my Internet connection properly. It is not slow. When I try to enter a website, it is not loaded for a while, after a while it loads a bit. Wait and go. Wait and go. It is so boring.
I try to understand what the problem is and found out when I got low signal my mobile network type changes all the time. Umts, HSPA, HSPDA, HSPAS. I think the phone can not get the proper signal and changes it connection type. Can I prevent this cylce? How can I get proper connection.
I tried a lot of radios and Roms. Nothing changed.
Thank you.

Data connection keeps randomly not working?

It seems random when the data connection works and the internet works on my phone. I'll sit there with full 3G signal and i get "cannot find the DNS Server" error when trying to load webpages :S
is this a problem with my Samsung Omnia 7, Windows Phone 7 or my network (Orange UK)?
I have this problem on my HD7 as well. If I have a 3G connection, it doesn't work. It only works on H (HSDPA).
Funnily enough, I had the same issue with my HD2 running WM6.5, which makes me wonder if WP7 is using the same comms drivers.
I have this problem too! A LOT everyday in diferent locations.
Actually how can I enable the HSDPA on my HD7? Because I can only get 3G.
These are just network errors.
I use internet alot and it happens on every device I had.
My WP7 is actually pretty stable in this regard.
Same! Never works on 3g only ever H you sure its just network errors cause it happens alot
YES this is a major problem for me with my Omnia 7, I even got a replacement phone from my carrier (Optus Australia) because of it... and it's exactly the same. It's extremely frustrating and makes the phone damn near unusable. Happens on every device? what a load of rubbish, if I put the SIM in my old iPhone 3GS it works FLAWLESSLY. I don't know what I'm going to do.

Can you explain then, how come a reboot always fixes the problem?

Yep, I have the same problem with my Omnia 7.
On all 3 of the networks i've used it on, T-Mobile, Virgin and GiffGaff.
Only solution is to reboot the phone.
I thing i've noticed, is it seems to happen when I move from an area where I have WiFi access (Home/Work/Cafe) to an area where i'm using a Phone network ?
I think we can only hope that the upcoming WP7 update fixes this. Also it seems enabling airplane mode then disabling it also fixes it in a similar way to rebooting the phone.

I'll make a note of that, cheers!
Im having the same issue with my HD7. Only EVER works on H. Not on G or 3G. It's driving me insane. The exact same sim on the same provider never had an issue on my Touch Pro 2, but this phone is shocking for internet
I get this occasionally on my HD7. Not really an issue right now. It does get annoying sometimes when the wifi in my house isnt strong enough to connect

You do realize that phones switch to H only while they are actively swapping data, then fall back to 3G while dormant, to save battery?
Try it - leave your phone alone for a bit and it will switch from H to 3G. Now access something on the net and it will switch to H (if possible) to get the data, then after a few seconds of inaction it will switch back to 3G.
So yes, it is correct that it only ever works on H!
Mind you, it would be nice if it worked on G too, I'm sure it should but mine never does.
hm i thought the " H " means that i dont get 3G signal.
but i think i had the same problem!
solution:
you only need to turn OFF WIFI
somehow its not using 3G when wifi networks are close,
even if you not connected to one.
turn OFF wifi or maybe only "discover new networks"
turning OFF wifi always brings me 3G back ...
Just to add my experience here...
I have a Samsung Omnia 7 and had never experienced any issues with 3G/H data/internet issues on the 3 network in the UK.
However, I've come over to Australia to visit the folks and have put in a Virgin SIM, now I really struggle with this. The connection just isn't working even with full 3G signal.
As pointed out, toggling my Airplane Mode works most of the time - I guess this is because the phone re-registers itself with the network when you enable>disable airplane mode (just like it would if you rebooted it). Curiously toggling the data connection option seems to have no effect.
Pain in the a*se.
I had connectivity issues with my Samsung Omnia 7. I worked out that my phone was not playing nice with my router and so my wifi connected but didn't actually work.
Also, I found that 3G performance was sub-par and many apps timed out because they were taking so long to get connection.
I solved these problems by flashing a new firmware. It was a little tricky and it is potentially risky, but a quick google will lead you to the relevant information.
I used a European firmware (I am in Australia on Optus), but it works fine. I just had to change all the language settings.
Now my phone's 3G and WiFi connections both work a lot faster (no more waiting for an eternity for the marketplace to open for example).
I have the same problem and read on create.msdn.com it has something to do with how wp7 handles the connections.
If the provider cuts off the connection frequently it loses its 3g signal or something like that. Thats why my push notifications are just unreliable. If I take my sim out and use wifi only. It just works and keeps working as soon as I connect to wifi. When 3g comes into play and the carrier cuts me off because im not actively using, the phone struggles to recconect for push etc.

4G Constant Scan - connect/disconnect

I have tried to search but it doesn't like to include 4G (to short to be included) in the search box so forgive me if I wasn't bright enough to find this somewhere else.
My EVO will scan for 4G service. It then says connecting to Sprint, then flashes disconnected and scans again only to say connecting to sprint. Rinse and Repeat this process over and over. I have had this issue both on clean installs of fresh rom and currently on Koni's elite series rom. Anyone have this issue as well/and or know of a solution.
I do have a 4G MAC address so I would think that I should be able to connect.
Thanks in advance for the help

Well for one are you in a strong 4G coverage area?
Try shutting off your phone, pull the battery for a minute or two and restart your phone. (If you call Sprint and tell them this issue - this step will be the first one they tell you to execute)
Also you can try updating your profile and PRL, When I am having weak signals under 4G/3G - I update my profile & PRL and it always seems to fix the signal issue...
hope this helps

this happens to me when trying to connect to a 4g signal from my apartment. it will say "scanning... connecting... obtaining IP address/disconnected/scanning...connecting..." (sometimes the "obtaining ip address" does not appear) yet if i try to connect in other parts of town it connects fine. wimax sucks as far as connectivity, so until more towers appear and the signal is better there's probably no way to fix your issue. ive tried every inch of my house, and of course by the windows is slightly better. if you can manage to get a "poor" or "fair" 4g connection you'll probably end up with slower speeds than 3g anyway. it's really misleading because the software indicates the phone is trying to connect even though the signal isn't good enough to maintain a connection. clear and sprint coverage maps indicate my address and neighborhood as "best" 4g coverage too, so i have little hope of this ever improving. there is a thread for updating your ##data# values to get the phone to connect sooner and stay connected longer which i think probably helps, but not enough for me (nothing you do on your end can improve the tower signal) and even if it did, like i said you're connecting at "poor" or "fair" signal and your data speeds will often remain slower than 3g.

I am good coverage areas, my work where I am now can get it in buildings and comically my home is exactly on the line of in-home/on-street. Tried pulling the battery to same results, I think I have current PRL 60675 PRI 1.90_003. Not sure what you mean for the profile though.
Thanks for the tips.
I can connect to 4g with a poor/fair signal now, and heres how I did it if anyone cares:
flashed joeykrim's rooted stock sprint rom (5.1 I think)
updated prl through settings menu
updated profile through settings menu
use msl reader app from market to get msl code
go to dialer and type (NOT call) ##DATA#
enter MSL, go to edit mode, tap the first out of the 5 or so menu items
press menu, choose "restore" (phone will reboot or power off)
turn phone back on and enable 4g with phone on window ledge.
somewhere along the line (flashing many many different roms and wiping a lot, trying various kernels and tweaks) I had gotten stuck in the seemingly irreversible 4g/wimax connection/disconnection loop. Now I can at least connect!

[Q] Data connection problems

Hi,
I have some data connection problems since the first day i bought my DHD.
The phone reception signal bar are always changing even when i am not moving at all.
It can generally move from H to 3G a few times, then go to E and then G, in a few seconds.
it always moves, my internet connection is very slow.
It's as if the radio was always trying to renegociate the method of communication (GPRS, 3G, etc) with the operator's antenna
When i am in a phone call, i got disconnected sometimes or the sound stop during a few seconds (the time the radio switch from 3G/H to E/G i guess)
When i disable WCDMA from the settings i get a quite stable sound during my phones calls (maybe because the phone no more tries to negociate). But for Internet... it's just slow.
I tried a few ROMs, and their respectives radio rom (the one with the IRL branded in the ROM) i sometimes thought it was better but always it's still too unuseable.
I tried my SIM card in an iphone 3GS and i am usually in Edge (sometimes 3G) but when its 3G i can surf quickly during hours (if i don't move). This is not the case with the DHD.
btw i am on the french carrier SFR
If any of u had any clues i would really appreciate your help.
Thanks you
what rom are you using and what radio and ril................... now what radio are you on now
OP already stated he tried numerous ROMS and their cooresponding radios. Sounds like the signal is that degraded that any radio/ril combination will not help.
Thanks for your replies.
As said i tried many ones with their respective recommanded radio.
I am actually trying Radio_12.62.60.27_26.13.04.19_M with Android Revolution HD 4G_6.1.1 with no sense script.
Are there tests i could do to identify if its a hardware problem (like standing in front of an antenna and running some special tool maybe)
Btw, i also tried :
-RCMix3D_Runny_v1.3 but does work with internet pass through (wich is really important since i can't use internet from my phone carrier...)
-niarkMIUI-3.9.1
-LeeDrOiD_HD_V4.0.0-SE-3.0-BETA with Radio_12.54.60.25_26.09.04.11_M2
-cm_ace_full-203 with my stock radio ROM
-virtuous_unity-v2.37.0 with i don't remember wich one...
P.S : i would be Glad to test any ROM / Radio combinaison you would suggest me.
Thanks by advance for your attention
if you tried all those roms and diffident radios seems like its more like a hardware or provider issue does it happen off different towers or maybe you can go to one of the stores and try the phone at the store with yours at the same time?
Thank for the advice indeed i need to try this.
Do you know what i need to revert back for the tech not to tell the waranty is over since i have flashed my phone ?
Does i need to reflash the recovery etc? is there some tutorial in this subject because if i go to the store with my custom rom i guess i won't get too much help :/
Don't even take out your phone, your going to say your just looking, don't show anyone your phone, they won't even know what to look for, just test your phone to the one at the store, make sure apn's match. But if you return your phone you'll need to ruu back to stock. You can search easy s-on

What happens if you manually select 3G only, or 2G only from the settings menu? Does it just lose signal, or stays strong?
Hi
If i select 3G only
I first get no reception (as if when switching from 2G to 3G the radio had to restart)
Then the 3G signal appear strong, decrease slowly in less than 30 seconds, and after all, it seems quite stable.
The bandwidth is good i am downloading fastly
(i am commenting in real time)
Still no deconnection.
I will try it during the whole day and tell how it is behaving.
umm during a few seconds, there were no indicator (no 3G or H), just 3 bars.
It then restarted in H with 1 bar (i am not moving at all)
What will happen if i have no 3G in my area ? I won't be able to receve a phone call ?
Thanks

If you force it to 3G only, and you move out of 3G area, then you should either get a no signal indicator, or if you have roaming enabled, you would get the roaming indicator. I'm curious now because as you said you aren't moving, and it's still changing. That shouldn't happen. Hmmm

No signal...

Hello all! Just installed the stable CM Rom on my htc desire. Everything is fine, except, at first boot, i get signal on 3g once (only once) then it goes to 'emergency calls only' and i get no internet, or 3g, or HSDPA. I have tried changing radio's hboot's s-off..etc. You name it, good chance i have tried it. I have tried *#*#4636#*#* and i can select different bands, for about 2 mins? then it comes up with an error saying unsuccessful. Sometimes if i force gsm /2g mode i can get phone signal, and Edge network only. Its painfully slow and..well for a $600 thats pretty bad lol.
Can someome please advise on how to fix this error? Even after 2 mins my sim will not register on any network, unless of course i use 2g networks only. And that is even flaky.
I have no idea how to fix this.
Please help
edit: It appears occasionaly it will pick up signal for a few seconds, then it drops back to the "x" on the signal bar. No service / emergency calls only..etc. Tried the battery method, cleaned the sim, blew any dust out..etc. Tried several different roms.
Even tried installing the stock telstra next g australia RUU.. it installs, gets to the loading screen that says "next g network" and just sits there. Thats the only rom besides miui that freezes on boot. The rest work.
I have tried moving the phone to different locations, indoor out door..occasionaly i get "E" or "edge" and i see a "3g" but as soon as i see the 3g, it crashes again, and no signal.
What radio are you running?

[Q] Wcdma connection problem!

Hi. I've an HTC Desire, with Rooted Gingerbread (2.3.3) and the 32.56.00.32U_5.17.05.23 Radio. i'm in italy, under Wind, but i've also a Tim Simcard and both have the same problem: Under WCDMA/GSM or WCDMA only, sometimes the connection drop, maybe during a call, and then i'm not able to receive calls or sms'. most of the time the data connection works fine, except that sometimes it remains stuck and says it's uploading something (the icon on the notification bar) but after less than a minute it goes again. Please help me, i've tried different roms with different radios, when i first bought the phone (used from uk) i remember it worked fine, i started noticing the problem after i installed a gingerbread rom with sense 3. i can't use the GSM only mode, cause i've a data plan and i need browsing, so GSM is too slow
thanks

It may just happen in areas where you have poor signal.

thanks for the answer. i noticed that this situation is stronger in my bedroom, where i keep my pc. not in my house, just in my bedroom. the signal is not poor, i tried to download many app from the play store, and sometimes the download is fast, sometimes the download stops. then i tried the same thing out of my house, but connected with the same cell, and even if the signal was lower, and the download speed too, the download went good, and the signal never dropped, the connection type was WCDMA/GSM and the phone was in HSDPA. i don't know what it can be, i'm starting to think that there's something in my room with and electromagnetic field.

Maybe you have well-built house
Anyway, it's common problem. I have 3 Desires and they all loose connection in some areas for a while.
Every phone behave like that.
For me a useful trick was to change from GSM/(WCDMA preferred) to GSM/WCDMA auto as I'm hardly ever using 3G.
Phone chooses the strongest cell now, not just WCDMA cells.
I'm using CM7.2 and in CM forum there is a lot of issues considering 3G stability in Desire, so not much can be done.:crying:
Cheers
