Jelly Bean just got revealed at the Google I/O. Imo, Google did just about enough! I LOVE IT. I absolutely love it. I'm not sure about Project Butter - It seemed amazing, I can't wait to have it on my hand!
Project Butter - Amazing
Google Now - Amazing
Google Search - Amazing
Android - Amazing
Jelly Bean will be available to the community by mid-july as per what the guy at the I/O said.
Update : I can't believe this. Google is giving away a free galaxy nexus, a nexus 7 AND a Nexus Q to all the Google I/O attendees.
So what do YOU think?

Anyone else notice how the Nexus 7 demo had a status bar and nav bar?
Here is a slightly developer-oriented look at JB: http://developer.android.com/about/versions/jelly-bean.html
A small but important change, long overdue:
Higher-resolution contact photos
With Android 4.1, you can store contact photos that are as large as 720 x 720, making contacts even richer and more personal

For ****'s sake, was about time.
I noticed in the presentations there were high res contact photos, and I wondered about this.
I'm glad they fixed this.
I loved it. I noticed that there were some new features that will be taking place of apps needed to be downloaded. Which is nice so I can save space for other things to be stored on the phone.
One thing I didnt like though that was mentioned already was that the UI layout for the Nexus 7 looked exactly like a huge phone. I would rather it be like tablets now with the notifications on the bottom right.
The Jelly Bean SDK system dump has been released.. don't know if anyone has taken a look at it.. I'm sure there are new wallpapers and stuff in there..

I believe that apps thing is called "smart updates", which only updates what needs to be updated instead of downloading complete apps.
I cant wait, allthough its not a complerely new system, my galaxy nexus will feel fresh once again, i am looking forward to testing the stock jellybean kernel.

It will not save space on the phone. It just means it will download a delta update which will update the current apk on the phone. The end result is the same.

This is hot from Jean Baptiste Queru and the CM teams Google Plus accounts! Jelly Bean is being merged! This is great news as that means source based Roms and customizations can start being made and also that an official actual release OTA for any stock or stock-rooted Galaxy Nexus devices should be right around the corner!

The Sprint GNex isn't an AOSP-supported device in the same way that the GSM model is. Even at that, the GSM images won't be posted until the GSM OTA is ready to go. Pushing to AOSP is a good indicator that the OTA is coming very soon, but they're not the same thing.
Pushing 4.1 to AOSP means that custom ROMs can really take off for toro (VZW) and toroplus (Sprint) devices. It doesn't necessarily mean they'll be getting OTAs any time soon though. Verizon and Sprint now need to work on the OTA and do their testing before you'll see it officially.
Awesome! Can't wait to see what's different between the Google io and the aosp they pushed! Yay!

Not really, but you can be like Verizon and pull the binaries from your phone and build that way. It seems like the 4.0.4 versions work ok and will be updated once Sprint and Verizon release updates.

Possibly. As far as I know Google really focuses on GSM hardware first. But they have a good relationship with Sprint so while you might not get it at the same time as us Maguro users, I'm betting you ToroPlus people will have it ahead of Toro users. And that really only applies to those who won't just flash it anyways

Sprint won't get these blobs
However, you can use all of them except the APKs (libs associated with them) and ril libs. I know, not very helpful
Edit: let me rephrase. I won't say never, because it could be added to AOSP at any time. Hence the placeholder device tree for it.

Truth. In actuality you are right and only time will tell. The reason why I get a good feeling about the Toroplus is that the way its seemed to me (and I could be very wrong) is that Sprint has let Google run the Nexus phones found on sprint when it came to updates. They even support Google Wallet when almost no one else does. It seems to me like Sprint is putting less obstacles in Googles way for Nexus (Nexii? Or is that the singular and Nexus the plural?) updates than Verizon is throwing up.
Again you are right and time will tell, but I just have a good feeling about it with the ToroPlus lol

So I had the Verizon Galaxy Nexus running Jelly Bean and today I sold my nexus and bought the SIII. I never realized how much software matters over hardware! Sure the SIII has more ram and a slightly better camera but I will tell you while I miss my nexus!!!!!
1. Stock OS - I hate the fact why on my SIII I cant organize my apps into other app folders. I feel like I am running android 2.4 and not 4.04!
2. Jelly Bean- I love project butter (even though the Siii is still smooth) and I way prefer googles voice assistant alot more
3. Build- I think I am one of the few that prefer the the size and material of the nexus. Even though the nexus is close in size, I still feel the
S3 is just too big. Not to mention I prefer the rubberized feel on the nexus.
4. On screen menu keys. Just have not got used to the S3 and dont know if I ever will.
5. Ability to swap roms. Being that verizon has a locked bootloader on the S3 and there are no working Jelly bean roms, I feel by the time
Verizon upgrades to Jelly Bean I will be counting down the days till the Galaxy Nexus 4 comes out!!!!
*****Thinking about selling my S3, but dont want to waste an upgrade on a new phone so just may give it to family and buy my nexus back***
Bottom line.... I miss my nexus
That's why I did not buy it

even though you can slap a cyanogen onto a non-nexus device, it will took longer than on nexus. On Nexus, Google update new version, the longest you have to wait is one week before a build is surfacing. But nowadays our dev are super so it only took few hours lolz, and with pretty much everything working most importantly.
With non-nexus, NO~~ it took ages to wait for this driver, that source code wtf wtf bla bla bla~~ I've been there with SGS2 and One X, regretted my choice. and you cant enjoy the true feeling of AOSP too. you'll notice you need TW or Sense for a better hardware experience like the camera, etc etc.
oh as asdfasd2 said, yes i agree. Samsung does sucks with their source codes. CM was long enough on SGS2 and still, after they release the codes, devs are having headaches fixing what were supposed to be fixed. Luckily Nexus S and Gnexus are handled by Google, not them.
i must confess i was feeling a little tempted myself but ever since the nexus 7 release i cant take the damn table off my mind just waiting a couple of weeks to see if a nexus 10 is gonna be release but i cant wait a lo more

Considering there's no touchwiz tablet ui for 4.1 yet the only thing I could see being ported would be a touchwiz phone ui. And even then that would be a challenge in its own. But xda proves the unlikely everyday so who knows.

Far be it for me to support TW, but the new TW on S3 looks ok(not good, but ok). I prefer the N7's look (tried true tab UI fix, 192DPI,160DPI but came back to the default 1), but that doesnt mean ppl shouldnt have options. I am more of a sense 4 fan though.
i don't know if it is possoble, but: i found an option in the latest jelly bean touch wiz leak, to activate TabletUi. I only tested it with Galaxy Nexus but it force closed. Smalldookie ordered a nexus 7, when it's there we will try.
If you want a 7" tablet with TouchWiz, Samsung has a lot of them for you to look at. Using a ported TouchWiz ROM on the Nexus 7 probably wouldn't work that well, with TouchWiz being propitiatory and all.

I just don't get why someone would buy a device and shoehorn something onto it like this. It seems like when stuff like this happens the performance isn't as good and features are missing.
Why not wait a month or two and wait for the manufacturer to develop it properly, then have vanilla android built for it? You get the best of both worlds. With the price to performance ratio, and popularity of the platform, it is bound to happen.
Edit: Additionally, it can be viewed that wanting this would tell manufacturers "We want your skin on any android device" and they would open it up to allow that to happen. However, it just seems they hear "I want your locked down customized device so much I'm going give you tons of money!" and things just continue as the locked down platform you mentioned.
To each his own. No its not a crime to want touchwiz but it's a forum so I'm going to state my opinion
Sent from my HTC PH39100 using Tapatalk 2
The only reason I considered a galaxy tab 2 was because touchwiz. It just makes a tablet more fun, has alot more options.
But it also is missing the drag and drop to create folders functionality. Folders in Touchwiz act more like gingerbread. Also don't get the screenshot button, it's pointless, screen shots are already built in holding power + volume down. The screen shot virtual button is easy to bump.
To each his own. Ever since I put cm7 on my captivate I've been somewhat of an android purist. I always thought sense looked cool so I got my vivid and flyer to check it out and found i didn't like it as much as I though I did. Sense is neat but unnecessary and makes customization a pain. I activated the aosp lockscreen on my vivid yesterday only to find out that alarms and phone calls won't display when the phone is locked because Sense uses its lockscreen to display the information.
I think pre ics the skins were necessary because android was an ugly beast and most of the core apps were very basic but ics and up android looks gorgeous and skins just impede on its natural beauty. Put it this way when my vivid got its ics update I was sure if it updated or not. Everything still looked like gingerbread. I had to check the settings to make sure I was indeed on 4.03. And htc disabled the over scroll and ics animations!

Just caught a post regarding missing JB clock and other features..someone stated a possible leaked, early version
Few articles popping up supporting this theory
Not to mention, folks are having a lot of difficulty installing manually
Just an FYI
What other features are missing? IMO JB clock isn't a big loss anyway, there are plenty of 3rd party imitators of it if you really need it. I haven't updated yet since I'm waiting on flashable zip, but it'd be disappointing if some important features were incomplete or left out. If it's just missing widgets then no big deal.

I haven't updated yet since I'm waiting on flashable zip, but it'd be disappointing if some important features were incomplete or left out. If it's just missing widgets then no big deal.

Rumor has it, LG has announced a leak..Sprint is still in the testing phase
Also reports suggest missing advanced Qslide functions
There is an official OTA out for JB. There is an update for the clock, but it doesnt remove it. We are working on a flashable rom right now.

Any sauce on this being the beginning of an official OTA? Forums are reporting both sides and google isn't giving me anything concrete.

Click and hold the home button is the alternative I found. Or just click the Google search at the top.

Hold the home button to bring up the recent apps, there is now a blue Google button directly above the home button.
So if you hold home until it vibrates and then quickly drag your thumb up a half inch and release you get Google Now.

Hit the microphone at the top. No sliding required. They made it easier.
Also, the only feature out of all the features I the video we are missing is Qslide. I could be wrong, and if I am I am sure someone will be very quick to point it out.
As for the clock, is that a feature in the other optimus g jelly bean phones?

you can also long press the menu button to take you straight to google now
No, but seriously.
I work for Sprint. If I wanted to lie or exaggerate I would troll everyone and tell you all the update is out. But really, it's not. The real Jelly Bean update is not out. Neither Sprint, nor LG will tell you it is. It is not on any legitimate website, my internal sales portal, or anything else black OPs like.
There was an incomplete leak. Some people are using that through a manual update. They are doing so at their own risk. Period.

It'd be sad but at the same time bitterly humorous if someone secretly threw off a malware infested ROM that's harvesting information from our phones as we speak. In all likelihood it was probably just someone doing us a favor in the higher ups. Or LG just never told Sprint about the update and pushed it out on their own. I'm certainly glad we got it, leak or not.

Google IO is this Wednesday. Like everyone here (I hope lol) I am super stoke! But, a lot of rumors have been flying around the interweb about a possible Nexus 4 with LTE capabilities. Would you guys be happy with a Nexus 4 LTE announcement or Nexus 5..maybe both in one year since the phone is normally comes out November through December release date???
I would buy the Nexus 4 LTE to keep me happy until the 5.
All rumors. We all know Nexus 5 will appear by the end of the year. I know this would make sprint and verizon users happy.

Pretty much this. You have to show me a Nexus that is impossible to resist for me to leave the Gnex.
As for software, everybody should have been expecting 4.3 according to all the evidence and history and I'll be glad to get it once it hits AOSP.

I hope they announce a new Nexus that Verizon is getting. I've been sitting on an upgrade for a while.
I don't need a new Nexus as long as my GNEX is receiving the coming updates.
I'm looking forward to the influx of threads being created after I/O about the latest android build. It becomes such a festive time while everyone is rapidly spamming "check for updates"

Why do we need another Google io thread?
Tapatyping
No.
They take a year to release a new device, and there did not have a track record of doing minor changes to a current product as far as I know........

Yes but our 18 month cycle is almost up. 4.3 maybe our last so hopefully they make it good.
My question is when my two year ends this September, whether I should get a nexus 4/5 or the X phone. I want the iPhone of Google for update purposes and don't want to have many different models claiming to be pure but when updates come it takes months.
I/O
I really like/hate android news sites as most stuff is already revealed.
I just hope Google has some servers up ready to give us some stuff tomorrow like babel, play games, maybe 4.3.

The Devs here at XDA will keep this phone going whether Google supports it or not. I'm not worried about it.

The nexus 4 DID ship with LTE but it was removed via software to avoid FCC fines as it was never tested an/or certified.
http://www.anandtech.com/show/6474/nexus-4-includes-support-for-lte-on-band-4-aws
So there is no need for Google to put out a nexus "4G".
I have all ready seen several places that the new model numbers will be Nexus 5, 8, & 11 and the new os "Key Lime Pie" will be either version 4.3 or 5.0.

http://www.knowyourmobile.com/googl...5-nexus-8-nexus-11-concepts-appear-android-43
Also several sources have confirmed that jus as it was with the upgrade from ICS to JB it will be "pushed" to all existing nexus devices. The only nexus phones no Lange receiving updates is the original HTC Nexis One, and the HTC G1 which still unofficially support JB.
