Go under software and you can see some of the features if you guys still don't know much about the SGS3 yet and what it is capable of. I'm sure with the brilliant and dedicated developers we have, they can definitely pull most of the things off on that last that does not require special sensors. So what do you guys think? I'm ready for S voice, smart alert, face and voice unlock, and the plethora of other things that the S3 has to offer.
I could be wrong, but I don't see Samsung updating older phones with those 'new' features if they want you to go out and buy their new SIII.
Though a few of those features has alternative means.

I think he's talking more so about if developers would be able to port those features to the galaxy nexus. Pretty safe to say samsung won't be officially handing them out but that's not to discount the great xda devs being able to port them.

Some features do look nice but not enough to changed my galaxy nexus... anyways some features probably will come to jelly bean I mean ICS has a lot features the CM and some other "roms " had in the past just like iOS adding a lot jailbreak tweeks is something is good someone will copy it happens just Google has to find a better way to implement the technology . The phone does not look bad and for the first time I don't feel like I need to upgrade my phone ( I had over 8 devices in the last 2 years ) and I'm really happy with my nexus

I'm hearing you there, this is the first Android phone I'm utterly in love with. It's so wonderful, fast, gorgeous display and it looks good too. I've had five Androids since 2010 and I'm going to be sticking to this one for a while. As Cyanogenmod development steams along I see no reason to look elsewhere.
Certainly the Galaxy III is a sexy phone but it's just not worth the cash for the extra features to me. Especially since it will be another wait until Cyanogenmod reaches a decent level of development for that phone.

I know I'm getting the features because I'm getting the phone. And no I don't think the gn will get some of the features due to CPU and GPU power and nfc speeds .
CPU and GPU on mirroring all share cast.
Nfc speeds on the s beam.

I am pretty sure that the GNex will get most of the features of the SGSIII eventually, either officially or unofficially!
What do you mean NFC Speeds on S-Beam? S-Beam works by initiating an NFC Connection, which then establishes a WiFi Direct connection between the devices to send the files, so there is no reason that GNex couldn't have it?

HUGE requirements will continue the fragmentation.
Devices like the desire hd or similar, wich gets ics, but will be stuck on 4.0.
About 30% will be stuck on GB because of the grow of android this year, but will be smaller, as most new devices launch with ics.
And so on.
Updating should be like IOS, when an ipad 1 or iphone 3gs is still upgradeable to ios 5.1.1, wich has been released 2 weeks ago.
These are limited in the app store, but who cares?

That's the difference between a monopolized environment and a liberal one. Monopoly is easier to control, predict and dictate. But don't be as naive as to think apple doesn't turn obsolete old equipment with their OS upgrades. The timeline is just much more dilated than those of the less controled environments.
As you may have noticed google releases updates first to it's devices. Of course I'm curious to know when the next will be, not that I hate JB, but updates are so exciting. I bought the GSM phone from the play store, so I should receive the updates first, right? Last thing, has KLP been confirmed?

Assuming history is followed we should be able to expect a new version with the next nexus. But we must keep in mind googles plan for 1 major update/year and with that in mind it could be June when we get our next major release.

Every Galaxy S series phone I had, the good folks at Sammy and T-Mongols (misspelling is on purpose) from way back with the Vibrant then the SG2, then the Note2, I always experienced a full OS update change. Not a partial that we just experienced. With the Vibrant, they moved from Eclair to Froyo. On my SG2 it was from Gingerbread to ICS. So if this keeps it up, we should get out of Jellybean onto whatever is next.

I think you should skip your note 2 and get a Nexus device if you are so concerned with having the newest 1st. My G1 has a ICS build and that was the 1st android device commercially available. Use your brain if you have one, 4.2 is just around the corner and already out in the form of CM10.1. Kandy Kane will be no exception and CM11 will bring it to us before sammy sends out a touchwized version of it. Do some damn research before you just start assuming things.

Wrong. It has to do with timing rather than LTE. If T-Mobile doesn't get to releasing 4.1.2/4.2 until they release LTE then they will be released at the same time.
But Samsung wants to fix thier issues while still working on 4.1.2/4.2 on Note 2. Then T-Mobile needs to work on the 4.1.2/4.2. Then they set up a time to release 4.1.2/4.2 for us. And because of the Samsung fixes it may be released before T-Mobile releases thier LTE.
Again this is all about timing.

Depends on how you see a "snob".
I personally don't like the control that Apple puts on their products. So yes I am snobbish at Apple products.
I believe that devices like Android "smartphones" are really Mobile (Cellular/WiFi) Pocket Personal Computers aka MPPC. So you can say that I am a snob there too.
But what is being a technology snob have to do with the release of 4.1.2/4.2?

Whether it will be vers. 4.3 or 5.0, do you think GSM galaxy nexus will get it?
Personally I think it will. Simply becaus even if Google decides to release the new version of android in combination with a new device, it won't be a new phone. ( Maybe a new nexus 7, but not a new flagship phone )
Nexus S didn't receive android 4.2 not because it's CPU couldn't handle it, but because Google wanted customers to focus on the nexus 4.
I think we will be good for the next 100 years
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
1) The nexus s didn't receive the update due to storage issues in the sector partitioned for OS. There is workarounds to this but it requires wiping devices and Google just can't do that to the mass public.
2) The galaxy nexus is only 12 months old, Google promises support for 18 months and likely even longer.
3) The galaxy nexus has a faster CPU then the nexus s and a similar GPU but the galaxy nexus has 1gb of space partitioned for OS.
4) Based on the above facts I can say with great certainty that we Galaxy Nexus owners will be receiving the next OS update.

As from what I read on the galaxy nexus it has 1gb for the OS. Nexus 4, I personally don't care about since I won't be getting one and therefore have no clue.

Nexus S recieved 3 updates. After 1.5 year stopped supporting it. Gnex has received 3 major updates. Its 1 year old and 3 months...
So i believe it is time to say goodbye to Google pure AOSP support and based on developers for the new updates

I'am confident that google would release the next version for GneX, there's non reason to leave it back, while for the NexS was explained why the official development was stopped! I only hope they put more attention in the development stage because 4.2 has a lot of silly bug that a good JUnit coverage could have found before the release (aka december bug, but why not mentioning the camera).
I am sure, we will definitely get the update! GNexus has a good hardware!
hopefully next 3 months, a major revamped ver, instead of something like buggy Android 4.2
Yes I think we will definitely get at least 1 more major release.

As far as I know, the gnex has only received 2 major updates: 4.0.4 to 4.1.1 and 4.1.2 to 4.2. I think that most people would agree that the 4.0.2 - 4.0.4 were minor updates, as were the 4.1.1 to 4.1.2 and the 4.2 to 4.2.1 updates.
As others have said, if be very surprised if the gnex doesn't get at least one more major update.

Unfortunately the next update will likely be small in nature.
Then huge change will come in November with next Nexus phone.

I definitely hope so, I don't plan on changing my Gnex unless some awesome Nexus gets released this year. I love the hw and it just way better than LG
