[Q]Android Jelly Bean - Samsung Galaxy Gio GT-S5660

When Android Jelly Bean will appear ,Galaxy Gio will receive an update?
Sent from my GT-S5660 using XDA

Not an official one, we don't even have ICS
Sent from my GT-S5660 using Tapatalk

yes, definitely

i want to ask for an official update to Android Jelly Bean, because I read that many phones will receive updates
Sent from my GT-S5660 using XDA

Who really knows? But we don't know requirements, so we can't predict it

the rumoured jellybean wasnt even release yet, hell the name jellybean itself its just still a rumour.
i think u might mistaken it with current ice cream sandwitch.
and no, before u ask, theres no official ics for gio, and probably wont be available either.
but in case u really did mean to ask about the still-just-rumour next android, i can just facepalmed.

i saw a video with this version of android and i saw s galaxy y with a image of jelly bean

Had a chat with support of Samsung.Looks like Samsung just don't give a froyo about anyone who uses Gio,Young or something like that.We won't be getting this update from the official source,I suppose.
p.s. i think some devs will definitely bring this to us.XDA shall save the day once again

sure sure, let's get our hands on ICS first, as even the name of 'jelly bean' isn't official, however there was something with those on a GOOGLE announcement, and it is said to divide the tablets and phones again..

someone says that J requirement is less then I ?

I think he meant to say that jelly bean requires less than ICS.
Dont knowif this is true. Why would they?
And samsung is not going to update a low end device wich is a year old

The name Jelly Bean is official and google will unveil it in late June or early July...
devices with Jelly Bean will start to roll out by the end of the year..and yes..
we still do not have a proper ICS build jelly bean is too long a shot...

I've got some news:
Google tries to fix their fault - Android fragmentation. As you know, Google gave tablets Android 3.0, which smartphones didn't get. It was big mistake. Now Google fixes it by giving new Android with HUGE requirements. So, nope, probably we won't get this version...

HUGE requirements will continue the fragmentation.
Devices like the desire hd or similar, wich gets ics, but will be stuck on 4.0.
About 30% will be stuck on GB because of the grow of android this year, but will be smaller, as most new devices launch with ics.
And so on.
Updating should be like IOS, when an ipad 1 or iphone 3gs is still upgradeable to ios 5.1.1, wich has been released 2 weeks ago.
These are limited in the app store, but who cares?

That's the difference between a monopolized environment and a liberal one. Monopoly is easier to control, predict and dictate. But don't be as naive as to think apple doesn't turn obsolete old equipment with their OS upgrades. The timeline is just much more dilated than those of the less controled environments.

How long if/when will we see Android 4.0.4/5 on HOX

Will this now be our next major update for the HOX ?
Reading the changlog on version .4 improves/updates more than 100 issues over .3
And looks to be a major improvment!
Although sense might be as good/better already in some areas.
One thing we know for certain......mainland Europe will get it first!
I have heard a comment of "we haven't even got version 3 of the kernel yet"......what is the significance of this ?
I had it on my Galaxy Nexus before I sold it and didn't notice anything different over 4.0.3 personally. It was more a bug fix release than anything else
Still, it would be nice to get it as it's out! Having said that, HTC skipped over 4.0.1 and 4.0.2 so they may skip over this too

There is no official release date for it yet, in fact "The Wall Street Journal quotes a source that says Jelly Bean will be released by Thanksgiving (November 22, 2012)."
So if released in November it would take HTC a few months to test it before they release it, hence the "Two X" March/April 2013

That's been delayed then, there is a good review here http://www.androidauthority.com/android-4-0-3-vs-4-0-4-vs-4-0-5-75651
The 4.0.5 update would appear to be for the Verizon Nexus only, and not the GSM handset, so it may not reach other GSM handsets either

I belive the version 3 kernel refer to kernel for the Tegra chip made by Nvidia, Currently the latest version is 2.6, think this is made for Gingerbread.
One good thing about Samsung phones running Exnose is the chip is designed in-house, so there is not depending on 3rd parties to supplies the kernel.

I hope Nvidia can reduce the power usage for Tegra 3. I did a test of leaving the phone idle at 50% brightness, the battery died after 7hrs and 43 mins. However, I can not get more the 3 hrs screen on time in normal (none gaming) daily use.

It's Key Lime Pie after Jelly Bean

No Jelly Bean for Captivate Glide?

Samsung has released a list of devices that are scheduled to be updated to Jelly Bean. Missing from this list is the Captivate Glide. Oddly enough, they've chosen the Galaxy Chat (a phone that clocks in with a single-core, 850 MHz processor and a 1200 mAh battery) as the qwerty phone to update. (Indeed, all the phones to be updated are "Galaxy" phones.)
Source: The Verge
If our phone can run ICS, it can run JB, Samsung can't try to blame TouchWiz in this case like they did with the first Galaxy S when they said that the phone was in fact capable of running ICS, but not with TouchWiz, in our case, if the phone can run ICS with TouchWiz, it can run JB with TouchWiz.
So, please, Samsung, enough with the BS, and start working on JB for the Glide, I don't want to have to wait till 2013 to get the proper JB Source Code, because, that's the only thing that matters for me, the Source Code with the propietary drivers, because, let's be honest, who the f*ck wants JB with TouchWiz on top of it ? I want pure, stock, unmodded, untouched, vanilla Android.
It's no surprise, really. Doing ICS for the Glide has proven to be a hell of a lot more work than they anticipated and it's only sticking to their word that's keeping them at it.
We WILL have Jellybean ROMs of our own. There's no important kernel differences, it will come in time. Have patience, this is a ***** of a phone to develop for.
If Samsung Galaxy R gets Jelly Bean, then there's very, very good chance that we, me, and you will get to have Jelly Bean OS, just it's difficult to develop something that work, due to the difficulty of dealing with the useless digital blobs. It's like building a house without the foundation AND excepting it to stand.

Aren't updates for carrier based phones dependent on carriers (in this case AT&T or Rogers)? So Samsung won't comment on those phones. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
Didn't At&T make the initial announcement last time for ICS?
That is one thing I hate about Android, the updates and not getting them.I must admit my next phone may be a nexus as those always get the updates since they are the ones Android is developed for. I may have to say by to the hardware keyboard and replace it with a Bluetooth keyboard case. Till then 2 more years with my glide and what ever little updates that intakes.

Nexus is running Android. It is the phone Google makes all its builds for. Nexus is fully customizable as well.
I know Nexus is an Android hardware, in fact I wish I can afford to have this (pretty expensive - $400 to 1,000 depending on how "fresh" it is on the market and what's inside it).

hello d man is working on a custom ics rom for us. once he has finished that project he has promised us a jelly bean custom rom as well. so dont panic, the dman is to our rescue. I can tell you if you are expecting to have an AT rom for jelly bean they will mes that one as they did with the ics rom update. So i wont install any att rom from samsung and will wait for the dman to provides his custom rom and will have no more at bloat ware and it will bea vanillia experience of android ICs and Jelly bean since he is working with pure Android code from google AOsP, and AOKPA. If i am spelling these short codes names.

[q] will xperia s final update be jelly bean?

I really hope not. How long do you think they will keep it updated ?
Galaxy S2 has went from Gingerbread through ICS and now it's getting Jelly Bean. Since Xperia S is starting from ICS, does it mean it will be getting new android after Jelly Bean?
XS is starting from GB,but it was an outdated launch anyway.Sony agreed to support phones(at least flagships) for 18 months of release or with 2 major updates. So somewhere in august it ends for the S.BUT,the Xperia SL is released in September, and it is exactly the same phone(just a little higher CPU clock speed). And it started with ICS,which means it should get at least JB 4.2(though that's not exactly a major update over 4.1).So if the SL gets it,the S should too, even Sony-style excuse for not doing it will sound just stupid.
well if sony stop XS on Jellybean (hope not), we still have CM rom .

SL will stop at August also. Look at Arc S. Got the same fate as Arc...
And I'm pretty sure we won't have beyond 4.1 by Sony, considering Qualcomm didn't gave the sources for 4.2 for our S3 processors (which isn't exactly their fault, as they are a bit outdated. ) T (and variations) and V are the only ones that should have official 4.2 or luckily 5.0, if Qualcomm cooperates.

Custom rom's are fast, stabile and we already have 4.2 - ok, it's not for daily use but I'am sure it'll be soon.
So, when Sony relese official JB and dev from xda get new drivers and other stuff they need - we'll get stabile 4.2.

What we (XS users) and other Snapdragon S3 phone users (such as HTC Sensation HD) can do is sign a petition asking for sources and drivers for Android 5.0 (or 4.3) for our processors.
At the end of 2011, users signed a petition asking Qualcomm to release drivers and such for the ARMv6 (Snapdragon S1, for example) for ICS. It worked. That's why devices like the X10 Mini and Mini Pro, X8 and other companies devices have fully working ICS or even JB with camera.

Samsung makes their own chipsets so they don't have the same issues as others with sources. If Sony isn't able to update it beyond jelly bean then it is totally qualcomms fault for not putting out the resources necessary. Look at the Nexus 4 which isnt even AOSP because of qualcomms dumb ass. Their is something to be said about making your own hardware.

If Sony could only supply the dev community here with the drivers we would easily have the most updated Android phones.

My 4 year old OG epic 4g has CM10 running on it, a phone that stopped receiving updates at gingerbread... So hardware while it is a factor can still run latest android versions. It's all up the creative minds of developers.
Have a great day!
I have cm 10 but it won't update because I need to reflash md4 bootloads

Mine is now on cm10.2 and runs it pretty darn well actually
I refuse to call it KitKat, Damn google and their marketing schemes. 4.4 forever, and OG Epic for the win!!

The galaxy S3 will be getting 4.3 in October
But I don't think it will officially get 4.4. However does officially really matter, when you can just get it unofficially?
Also by the time carriers actually start releasing 4.4 the gs3 will be a third or even fourth tier phone in the series
Also I like the idea of KitKat it was Google one upping all those people who thought they could predict them in a creative way that also set up more advertising ect...
Eh, not holding my breath. I would rather get it unofficially IMO. Nice to brag to my friends or others
"here look, I'm running the latest of android"......and your not:laugh:

The Galaxy S3 will but ours won't. Always always always when they announce updates forthcoming they are talking about the international versions. It is then up to Samsung and the carriers to invest resources to put them on US phones. Typically this takes several months IF the carrier is interested. AT&T just got 4.1.2 and it is not a pushed update.
As for 4.4 I have no doubts about the S3 getting that version but you will be asking the same hypothetical question then about 5.0.
I could see the s3 getting Kitkat, but not for a while after all of the other phones. Just because the s3 was a very successful phone and they're still being sold like crazy. Anyways, I hope I'll have Kitkat on my s5 on release .

Galaxy S phones have always had two major updates (Galaxy S1 got Froyo and Gingerbread, S2 got ICS and JB. Since Android has had multiple versions of Jelly Bean, it is hard to say whether or not they think of Jelly Bean 4.1 and Jelly Bean 4.3 as two major updates for the Galaxy S3, but if not, then it is likely we will get Android 4.4 KitKat.

Since we don't even have a clue about a release date for 4.4 I would not venture a guess.

Official 4.4 is that true?!

I don't think that they are gonna update the Xperia S anymore. It's a shame as it's a good device, I hope they don't do the same and abandon my Z1 after 18 months like they did with this device. Hopefully tho they might update this but it's very unlikely

Abandon? You expecting lifetime of updates? They didn't abandon Xperia S. The current firmware is fine.

Why must there be? There are unofficial versions, just use those. Are you expecting Sony to keep every single phone they ever released up to date? There must be hundreds by now (okay that was a hyperbole, 48 according to Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sony_Xperia), noone can keep up with that. If you must blame anyone or anything for the short while that phones are getting updates, blame Android because it's so hard to install on hardware (compared to more classic PC OS's like Windows and Ubuntu/Pick-Your-Favorite-Linux-Distro). Not even the Galaxy Nexus got an update to Android 4.4, and if there was one Nexus that was most like our Fuji-phones it was that one. So if our generation's Nexus isn't even getting any updates anymore, how do you expect a non-Nexus device to get that update.
Seriously, I don't like this either, so ever since KitKat I haven't run a stock ROM. Now you've learned that if stock updates are important to you, you should get a Nexus or a Google Play Edition device. Sony has been known not to be very good in providing long term updates ever since the Xperia X10 (their very first Android phone). And if you can't afford to get a new phone every 2 years (because that's how long it'll be relevant), you should stop being so sensitive about updates and be happy with what you have.

I m using pure Aosp 4.4 right now.
And I m happy with it.
But see every nexus has offical cm support.they are also working on 4.4.
And here only billchane and rehman FX are working.thanks to them we have 4.4 build.suppose we don't have more support from them.than what we gonna do.then I will sell my sl..and surely buy nexus 5 or htc m7

Best not buy a HTC, support isn't great there either. The One X(L) isn't going beyond Android 4.2. If this is important to you, there's only q Nexus, a Google Play Edition phone or maybe a Motorola Moto X but we still have to see how long Motorola is going to support phones now they're part of Google.
And indeed we wouldn't be much without Rayman or bilchen. But it's like this for the vast majority of Android devices.

I tried several KK-based roms for xperia S, but all gave me random reboots
had some on 4.3, but with 4.4 I have too many to be stable as dayly driver.
i guess they all use the same kernel (open semc), that could explain why the all have it?
but... why do some people claim to have no reboots, and others have em 'all the time'?
i'm now on nature rom (4.1) and no problems at all, it's a great rom, but i really like 4.4 as well.
will there be a stable kernel/version soon?

First of all, the XS it's not just another phone sony launched, its a flagship device that only got two major updates (one actually cause ics should have been out of the box) so I at least expected 4.2 or 4. 3, even Galaxy s2 got them
second, the galaxy nexus didn't get 4.4 because of Texas instruments (supposedly) and as long as other oems continue to update it means it's possible and we have every right to complain about it

You're absolutely correct that Galaxy Nexus lack of KitKat is due to Texas Instruments. Similar, Xperia S ain't getting 4.2 and above due to Qualcomm, not Sony.
