[Q] HSDPA, but no HSDPA+ - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a Desire HD running CM7.2 and Baseband 12.39.60.19U_26.06.04.06_M
I have a 4G 5gb data subscription with AT&T here in New York State, and I am in a city upstate with HSPA+ coverage as witnessed by other phones in my office, but my phone will only connect to HSPA.
Is this possibly in relation to outdated radio software?

The Desire HD doesn't have 4G/HSPA+. There's a version of the DHD for the US called 'Inspire 4G'. That's has HSPA+. I'm guessing you're being charged quite a bit for 4G, so better cancel your 4G data subscription and get a cheaper 3G data plan. 3G is the max the DHD can do because it doesn't have the radio hardware to access 4G.

Tmbo prepaid 2G vs 4G

I have an unlock T989 and if I get the prepaid tmbo 2G ($2/day) what is there maximum download speed I can get? I can opt for 4G ($3/day) if the 2G is to limited.
Thanks

with this phone you want 4g, providing you live in a 3g/4g area. 2g(edge) speeds are incredibly slow most of the time and with this power house you'll need 4g.

Unless you plan on using it for ONLY Call & Texting, you MUST have 4G. for this phone.
A monthly 4G plan would probably come out cheaper than the daily 4G plans
I'm using a 4G prepaid plan myself - $70 for unlimited talk/text , 5GB 4G limit.
I am in a 4G area - check out my sig for speeds!

[Q] Get 4G working with Desire HD

Anyone know if there's a way to get 4G working with a UK Desire HD. The Desire HD came out before 4G was available in the UK but the US version is 4G compatible so i thought perhaps the device would have the capability to use 4G.
The us version isNOT 4g compatible. They just gave it the 4g name so people will buy it. Its the same as the dhd. I'd would call it 3.5g Max.
Now to your question. The answer is simply no. The hardware is just not there
Oh right. Well that's definitely false advertising. Nevermind.
You can edit the build.prop to gain faster speeds down and up.

4G and 3G are not actually different for Tmobile.
Wikipedia article on Evolved HSPA
So then, the question is how to turn off DC hspa. Which is probably not accessible through the maintenance menus.
But for many real world value metrics I don't know what you would gain.
Get the app called phone info

I think there's an app for that. I forgot what its called but I think the toggles are Edge or HSPA+ umts only

I'm wondering if the OP came from Sprint? Sprint's 4G was a separate (battery sucking) radio that you could turn on and off and needed to in order to protect the battery usage.
4g on TMo isn't like LTE, it's not a separate modem to turn off like AT&T, VZW, or sprint. It's really a hopped up version of 3G. Your choices are 3G/4G or Edge.

On T-Mobile, there is no real differentiation between 3G and 4G. Both operate on the same spectrum. The only difference is the speeds. However, that is controlled, not by your phone, but by the tower you're connected to. It's easier to look at it as the same exact technology. For the purpose of this conversation, there is no more T-Mobile 3G. It's all 4G, or HSPA+, service now. The 3G brand has been retired in favor of the 4G moniker.
To put it all simply, 3G is the same as 4G on T-Mobile. To turn off 4G, you would drop down to 2G, or EDGE/GPRS, service.

And if you still want to do it.....go to settings - more settings - mobile networks - network mode and you can select "GSM only".
Strangely enough....there are a couple areas around where i live that my phone will show a 4G connection and absolutely refuses to open anything. I've found that if i switch to the "GSM only" option in those areas that at least i can get it working... slowly, but better than nothing.
Had the same issue with my previous phone. (G2) weird phantom 4G zone. :-/

[Q] 3G not working on my DHD/inspire 4G

hi, I have installed JT R30 by RB on my DHD but 3G is not working. checked the APN setting, but no luck. do I need to install any Radio for 3G to work? right now its 12.56.60.25U_26.10.04.03_M. plz help. it did not work with ICS by blackout. :crying:
Whether ur phone is Desire HD or inspire 4g and are u from india. If inspire 4g, then 3g won't work in India as the inspire uses different network bandwidth than present in India.

hey OP, welcome to the forums.
I would change your username as it is your googlemail account and can be used for malicious purposes.
Secondly I don;'t believe that the IG4 works in India
Third, have you tried a different ROM or a full wipe?
Inspire 4G works like a charm in India including 3G. I have used it. Please mention your carrier. Many 3G carriers are providing connectivity problems in India right now.

Airtel does not have its own 3G footprint in Gujarat, it connects to !dea cellular 3G when a subscriber attempts a connection. Try a different 3G SIM of Gujarat like !dea or Tata Docomo.

Ya I know that.. but my friend has sensation and he uses air tel only. 3G works fine for him. Its not rooted. Anyways I will try different sim and see, how it behaves.

There is difference in Network
HTC Inspire 4G
HSPA+ 850/1900MHz
GSM/GPRS/EDGE 850/900/1800/1900 MHz
HTC Desire HD
Europe:
•HSPA/WCDMA: 900/2100 MHz
•GSM: 850/900/1800/1900 MHz
Asia Pacific:
•HSPA/WCDMA: 900/2100 MHz
•GSM: 850/900/1800/1900 MHz
So if you have Inspire 4g then you will not get 3g network in India.
