Peace of mind, and major security. Especially with all the personal data stored o our phones today. People now starting to look to steal your phone to access data such as email, social networking sites in your name, saved passwords, and mobile banking applications as well. It's not necessarily something you NEED, but it certainly wouldn't do any harm in adding some extra security.
Hope this helps!

Don't forget that there is no way to decrypt the device without wiping. And, you cannot easily use CWM or other recoveries to flash ROMs, etc.

Once you encrypt your data partition, CWM can no longer read it, so you cannot (easily) flash anything you had on there.
Have a look at this thread for a work-around.
Unless you REALLY need encryption, I would recommend to not use it.

Ok... I know that full device encryption is bad idea... But how about MicroSD card encryption? And if its ok...how about decrypt data on my personal pc?

That is true, but you can use TWRP recovery, which can handle encrypted partitions without problems. I am using encrypted Nexus for almost year without problems, also flashing custom roms via TWRP.

Now, yes. Back in June 2012 when I wrote that post, TWRP could not decrypt partitions.

What is the problem? If you forgot your password, I don't think there is any way to get your data back. If you don't need your data, just flash the stock images and you are back to normal.

Format data wipes out EVERYTHING. You shouldn't really need to do that. Which custom ROM are you yon? Maybe try asking around in that thread.

I would not restore app data or especially system apps and data from another device. Restoring just apps without data should be fine - I've done it before. You might need to do a factory reset and reflash the ROM to start over again.

Problem with the installation of any rom

Me after a problem with the sim as it is blocked momentarily I restarted my phone with 10 cm and suddenly you are stuck on the animation, so I decided to install a new rom, starting from 0, ie starting from the stock and then make the the next steps, and I made them all really (Root, CMW, wipe data cache davilk cache, data cache format system etc.) delivery with installation and all is well, but despite the success, when I turn the phone on the block ' animation of the Roma, and despite spending a considerable amount of time (about an hour) does not start, and this problem will reply with different rom, how can I solve? What happened to my phone? Before the problem with the sim everything was fine HELP

Okay, thats good! is ur back-up saved on external sd card? if it is, try to restore ur working ROM first.
do the following:
1. boot into recovery
2. wipe/ format the following (find the proper entry in the CWM menu structure):
/data
/system
/cache
Dalvik Cache -- please note that this is *different* from the /cache of the previous line!
Internal SD
Leave the External SD! DO NOT FORMAT!
3. restore ur back-up ROM
4. reboot
I have installed several times the rom on galaxy w, always with a good result, but one day when riavviai normally my phone with above cm10, went into bootloop for no reason, at this point ripristinai everything and re-installing gingerbread, then repeat again the whole practice, but since that fateful day I no longer install any rom, the device must always be in bootloop, it only works gingerbread, why what has happened?

Have you tried any other custom rom to see if it's the same problem?

Fix permissions will not work. It does not do anything, but its a waste if time. In the updated recoveries, it has been removed because its just a placebo.

Roms freezing

Hello Everyone
I've been loving some roms i've downloaded but sadly I can't stick with them because my cellphone freezes with those roms..
AOSP Roms..Illusion Rom and Pacman Rom (different builds) it still freezes even MIUI Rom, but the Touchwiz roms won't freeze thankfully.
Why is this happening? Im running TWRP Recovery since I can't install CWM Recovery because on the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 bootscreen it distorts I don't know why. Does that have to do with the roms freezing? are different kernels good for that kind of problems?
Hope you guys can help me

Wipe Cache, Wipe Dalvik Cache, Factory Reset, Install Rom, ( and if necessary) Install Gapps (4.1.2/4.3).
Then Reboot.

Only big apps like asphalt you will feel the difference. If not used you won't notice any difference. Only /data partition must be formatted.

Backup all your data
then do a factory reset from settings (it'll wipe your internal storage so backup)
you will get /data as f2fs.
restore your data.

[Nougat Beta] How to format data without losing storage files in an encrypted phone

How to format data without losing storage files in an encrypted phone using TWRP Recovery?
Do you realize that "formatting" and "not losing" are the exact opposite things?
You can't format without losing data, you can only backup stuff to some other location (PC, USB ...) and then restore it after formatting.

TWRP can't decrypt yet so no.
Your question should be "how to wipe data"
Formatting will always result in complete data loss
