when i plug my phone into the PC using the cord, the charging turns on, but i get no indication to change to USB mounting. i can't mount USB anymore, using Decks pb25, its always worked before but now doesn't, is it a hardware issue, or is there somethat can fix it?
Try using multimount usb on the market.

i couldn't get the app to work. is there anything, i can do, i've wiped
and changed roms
but for some reason it won't recognize the usb. is there something wrong with the card itself (which i doubt tbh) or the port (which doesn't make sense to me since it shows a charging sign).
Try ruu back to stock something must have gotten deleted by mistake.... Anyone would do but make site to update to latest radio also....

I've had this issue myself also. What I did to fix this is I reninstalled the HTC drivers on my PC. Then worked perfectly after that. You can get the drivers from the your phones manufacturer website or just Google drivers for blankity blank blank(your phone model and maker)
well installing drivers didn't seem to do the trick :/
i'm a tad nervous to attempt a ruu install, because my phone is flashed to boost mobile.
also could something in the port cause this issue, where only the charging would be read but not anything about usb data?

I have a few of them that I flashed too boost....all the ruu does is reset the rom and write the stock keys and all you would have to do is flash the recovery.....i just did this with a phone I sold the other day......

It could possibly be the port itself or it can also be a the cable that you are using but I highly think it isn't either of them. It could also be the recovery you are using. I had a rom that just would not boot up until I went back to Amon RA recovery and the rom worked perfectly. Also in recovery try to fix permissions. As a last resort if you really do not want to install ruu I would recommend a system restore of your PC to a point where your phone was dectected

Check drivers and cable. I can almost guarantee that CM9 Alpha 2 didn't break download mode.
Just to verify ... and because I'm bored at work ... I'm on CM9 A2 and using odin to go back to el29 as we speak. No problems with pc recognizing the phone.
As for another way to go back ... no, you'll definately need odin.

I'm pretty sure it is not my cable because i use it for when i'm charging my phone and it works perfectly fine. when i connect it to my pc, the computer makes a sound but nothing happens. To tell you the truth it might sound like a faling usb port. My friend had the same problem with his phone. First it would not connect to transfer data then eventually it would not even charge but in his case the notification light came on as well just nothing else happened.

USB power and AC charging are separate lines. You could have nicked the usb and still be able to charge the device.
The fact that you can charge doesn't have any bearing on your ability to use any USB functionality. Only using the same cord on another device completely rules that out.
Have you installed any drivers or software on your computer since the last time you used odin?

Look at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1433101
You just need to download EL29 tar file and put it on your sd card, then in mobile odin choose open file and it will look at the file in your external or internal sd card, once it locates it you hit flash and you should be back to stock roooted el 29
i tried and tried but it just keeps saying " partition not found in file"
are I using the one click self extract....or a tar file

It has been noted on another thread: Are you using the Sammy USB cable or another? My LG one will charge the E4GT but will not function USB - Sammy one works fine.
Hi,
All of a sudden my gio decided not to support USB anymore.
When I connect it, no mass storage thing appears on the phone, and in windows (windows 8 and 7) there are no signs of any device being connected either.
Even ODIN doesn't find it when it's in download mode, although I do have the drivers from sammobile installed.
Except for this the phone is operating normal, and it still charches propperly (which goes through USB too ).
Any ideas? I don't really need the USB connectivity right now, but in case I want to flash back to a stock rom I do need ODIN to work.
Thanks in advance,
Stannieman
Have you covered the basics yet (try another cable, try on another pc etc). Seems to me like a faulty cable or faulty usb port, either on phone side, either on pc side.

My external hdd works with the same cable on the same pc and same usb port. I have tried all ports. Mass storage also doesn't work on a macbook pro, though I don't know for sure if it is supported on OS X but I suppose it should work. Different cable doesn't work either.
It's not the cable and not the pc.
So I think in the luckiest case it's the connector in the phone?
Friday I'll open it, there's some annoying piece of dust on my screen also so I can take that out too + check for the connector.
In this case, yes, you may be right about the phone's port; remember, even if it's somehow flawed, it could still charge - maybe only the data pins are the problem. Hopefully, it will be only some dust blocking the connection, and not something worse...
Good luck!
If the connector is detached from the board then it's also doable (very careful of course), otherwise it won't ever work anymore.
I can't take it to the shop you see, I can't flash a stock rom...

Thanks, but doesn't work.
I've had problems with charging one day, but after an hour of trying (unplugging and replugging) the cable it started charging again. Never had charge problems after that.
Actually, I don't know if data ever worked after that. Now I think about it I never tried data connection since then.
Usually when I flash a new custom rom I always flash the latest stock to have latest baseband and other things that aren't changed by the custom rom install (I like having the newest ). That's the only thing I use usb for (and photo's but not anymore with cm9 without preview).
I think it's the usb connector from the phone.
stannieman go to the shop where you bought it and ask if they can look at it
I returned home yesterday and tried connecting to the desktop. Guess what?... it worked.
I don't understand why, as the hardware of my notebook didn't change and it always worked. I tried windows 8 rp and windows 7 (windows 7 used to work for sure), but nothing on my notebook. On the desktop it works just fine with windows 8 cp.
So I think we can conclude that either it's my notebook + macbooks don't work together with android, or that our desktop has magical powers.

Hello XDA!
I don't want to post a wall of text (not that tall of a wall, at least), so, I'll try to get to the point quickly. And yes, I have done a lot of searching, both on XDA and Google, and that will be proved soon enough with the solutions that I've tried so far.
The problem I'm currently experiencing is when I connect my phone to my computer, it charges but it isn't recognized. There is no USB notifications, no phone in My Computer, and no Windows pop up, whether it's a pop up asking me to install drivers or an unknown device has been connected, nothing. Mind you, everything has been working flawlessly, this just randomly, and I really do mean randomly, started happening. The phone has never been dropped and there is no water damage. I'm still using the USB cable that came with the phone. And, if it matters, I'm rooted, running the leaked LI8 JB ROM, stock kernel, and UVLEM baseband.
Here's a list of said solutions that I've tried so far:
Using a thin paint brush, wet the tip a little with alcohol and tried cleaning out the USB port
Connecting to a different computer, connecting with a different cable, connecting to any other USB ports on the computer
After making Nandroid backup: Data wipe/factory reset, flashing a different ROM
Remove Samsung USB drivers and reinstalling, also tried installing Samsung Kies
Uncheck USB debugging and restarting, checking USB debugging and restarting
Dialled *#7284#, select Modem, then reselect PDA, changing Qualcomm USB settings and changing it back to MTP + ADB
Turn off phone, remove battery for 30 sec, reinsert and boot up (soft reset to reset internal circuitry as described by a Samsung live chat service tech)
I might've left out a couple, but please do enlighten me of methods that you might know, I'll be sure to try it or let you know if it's already been attempted.
..also, when connected to my PC, under Settings > Battery, it shows "Charging (AC)" IIRC, this should be showing "Charging (USB)".
This next attempt stood out to me. I decided I would try and go back to the stock firmware, one where I would have to use Odin3. So, I put the phone in Download Mode, open up Odin3, connect the phone, and I get a pop up in Windows! It's trying to install drivers, and fails. I can't flash the stock Samsung firmware if I wanted to, even for warranty purposes. I do currently have the USB drivers installed, but my PC hasn't gone through the driver installation for when the phone is connected to the computer. So, I'm assuming that is why this is failing? I'm not entirely sure. But, when I saw this, I unplug the phone and plug it back in numerous times, to rule out that this might be a hardware problem. And, every time I plug it back in, it tries to install the drivers but fails. So, it's detecting my phone in Download Mode. I reboot and hope that it will detect normally, but no, it doesn't...
As a last resort, I went to Samsung.com and chatted with a service tech, he runs me through two procedures that I haven't done, the 'soft reset' and a 'master reset', which is done through Settings > Back up and Reset > Factory Data Reset. Neither worked, so, he then checks my IMEI and finds that I am still under the 1 year warranty and files a ticket for repair service. I asked him if there is a replacement warranty and he says that is done through my service provider (T-Mobile) with the Premium Handset Protection service, which I didn't add. Not because I didn't want to, but I can explain in later posts if someone is interested in why it wasn't added. So, now I have the return label in my inbox ready to be printed, taped onto a box containing my phone, and sent out. But, I can't go through with this because I have a custom ROM on the phone. There is no counter because I've already used Triangle Away, AFTER this started happening.
I am completely stumped... Any information is greatly appreciated!
EDIT: Also, I've disassembled the phone to check the MicroUSB port to see if any pins or prongs might've came loose. Everything is in tact.. I also wanted to see if the MicroUSB port was replaceable because I was able to find a spare MicroUSB ports on a website. But, it seems that the port isn't easily replaceable. It doesn't look removable, and I'm uncertain if it can be de-soldered to solder a replacement one on. Also, some thing caught my eye when I had it disassembled. There were two components of the phone that had SGH-I747 imprinted on them. I wasn't able to take pictures as I was in a rush to get it put back together, but thought it was of interest to bring up.
How do you have a custom ROM if you flashed the stock one? I'm confused..
Try installing drivers through the toolkit.
If windows recognized it in Download Mode, keep trying to unplug and replug the cable in the same and different ports until it installs?
This happened once on my Galaxy S 4G.
Uninstall all related drivers, kies, etc. Restart pc and download and install these drivers. (Should be latest)
http://d-h.st/zya
Or download and install latest version of kies. Drivers included.
Try connecting again.

I have tried it. Different phones work on my computer. The S3 doesn't get recognized in any computer.
Unfortunately. Even installing different roms doesn't allow the phone to boot.
I wouldn't give up.just yet. If you can, try on a different computer, even just to see if it sees it. Others have solved similar issues with some of the following:
Trying with several cables, preferably not ones that came with a 3rd party charger, or are just cheap cables.
Unplug ALL usb peripherals that you can, then try all ports on computer.
Uninstall kies, uninstall drivers, install different version of drivers, plug in and if seen in device manager, right click and update driver, manually choose location and browse to program files where they installed.
Install universal adb drivers (links in Sig btw), and try again.
Try when booted in recovery and download mode.
You said before the port was messed up. How is it messed up? You can charge it right?

Yes, I can charge it. But even then not all cables charge it. And not at full speed sometimes.
Cables go bad easily, and all the time. They are much more delicate than people want to believe. Some cables are not wired to be able to transfer data. Often there's just two wires inside because it's a charging cable nothing more. Also, depending on that will determine if it takes a charge at full speed, or if it thinks it's connected to a computer or car charger, it'll only charge at about half speed.
If you can copy files to/from the computer over a cable, then that cable should work.
Did you try any of the things I mentioned?

You're correct about MTP for mounting as internal storage, but MTP and PTP isn't used while in download mode and connected to Odin. It uses ADB at that point and it does that automatically. You just have to make sure USB Debugging is turned on.

Just gonna check some things with you. Have you made sure to activate Developer options and turn on USB Debugging? I know it doesn't connect while attached to a computer right now but does it charge? You said you've tried different computers, but have you tried different USB cables as well?
If the phone is charging but not connecting there is a small trick to see if it's a hardware issue. Get a very this piece of plastic or something else kind of stiff and barely wedge it under the charging port. You put it under the lower side that faces the back cover. You only want something that's going to put a tiny bit of pressure there. Most of the time if a charging port goes out, it's because the contacts are loose. If you do this and it connects as it should, then they put a bad board in the phone. This trick should be the last resort though.
