Phone won't boot - T-Mobile, Samsung Galaxy SIII

My phone stopped booting one morning. In custom recovery it says /data won't mount. I sent it to samsung and they refused to repair it because it was rooted. It was running on stock rom plus root.
Should I sell it for parts? Or is it fixable?

Have you tried flashing a Rom, or the firmware?
Can you boot download mode?

I can boot download mode, unfortunately I messed up my usb port somehow and my computer doesn't recognize it.

Samsung says they tried flashing to stock for me but it failed. Since it was rooted, they refuse to fix the hardware.

What recovery and version were you running?

And what about recovery? Have you tried flashing a Rom or the firmware there?
If the port on your phone is messed up, recovery is your only option. But are you sure it's messed up? Have you tried different cables, usb ports on the computer, drivers, etc?

I have tried it. Different phones work on my computer. The S3 doesn't get recognized in any computer.
Unfortunately. Even installing different roms doesn't allow the phone to boot.

I wouldn't give up.just yet. If you can, try on a different computer, even just to see if it sees it. Others have solved similar issues with some of the following:
Trying with several cables, preferably not ones that came with a 3rd party charger, or are just cheap cables.
Unplug ALL usb peripherals that you can, then try all ports on computer.
Uninstall kies, uninstall drivers, install different version of drivers, plug in and if seen in device manager, right click and update driver, manually choose location and browse to program files where they installed.
Install universal adb drivers (links in Sig btw), and try again.
Try when booted in recovery and download mode.
You said before the port was messed up. How is it messed up? You can charge it right?

Yes, I can charge it. But even then not all cables charge it. And not at full speed sometimes.

Cables go bad easily, and all the time. They are much more delicate than people want to believe. Some cables are not wired to be able to transfer data. Often there's just two wires inside because it's a charging cable nothing more. Also, depending on that will determine if it takes a charge at full speed, or if it thinks it's connected to a computer or car charger, it'll only charge at about half speed.
If you can copy files to/from the computer over a cable, then that cable should work.
Did you try any of the things I mentioned?

Odin not working.

Can anybody help me out really quick? I was trying to go to the latest MIUI from CM7 and of course whatever happened happened, now I have to ODIN back However, I'm trying to use ODIN3 v1.30 GT-P1000, victory_8G_100528.pit, Deodexed-Rooted-CWM-Busybox-EH06.tar, but the computer won't discover my phone while it's in download mode.
YES, I HAVE DRIVERS INSTALLED!
Hope you got about 5 cable, cuz that's what I go through everytime. Also I go to 2 computers and about 10 usb ports, then something will work.
What do you mean 5 cable? Man this used to be a breeze, I used to use my moms Windows and it was so simple, but her laptop decided to totally die out on me, so now I can't do anything.
Use the Odin3 v.1.85 .zip file in this thread, it will work.

Alright, is there any alternative I can use instead of ODIN? Because I've used 2 wires, and 3 USB Ports, reinstalled drivers, and nothings working.
You could try hemindal, or how ever you spell that. The odin alternative. It's in the development section somewhere.

make sure you're not using a pit with that file you're flashing, too, i don't think u need it with that specific file. try your old cables this way first before u try another cable, and try the usb ports on the back of your computer. and one more thing, i'm pretty sure heimdall is just for apple.

maybe try uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers on your laptop, and try a new cord, the one that came with the epic was notoriously crappy.
edit: redownload them from sammy, just to be sure...
If you can get into a recovery you can try installin srf 1.2 and do a proper shutdown. This has usually fixed this issue for me

Odin will only recognize your phone on 1 port, usually the first port you used that installed the drivers. Try every port. If you want to try Heimdall go into Development at the top in the stickies in the thread about How to fix a semi-bricked Epic. Post 2 is all about how to use Heimdall.

Ummm I think I know what your going through if I remember one of the cm7 builds my pc wouldn't recognize my phone either. I have a thick black berry cable and it always works and detects except for. That situation you need to pull sd card plug into sd adapter to plug into pc put a flashable of some rom since your on rfs I would say try the newest cm7 even if it doesn't boot maybe it will bring back your usb to pc connectivity. Since your on rfs don't flash srf1.2 cuz your phone won't boot you would have to do srf1.1

Try dialing ##8778# and putting the phone on pda or modem under the USB section.. I don't remember what one worked for me, I think it was modem. But mess with those settings. Hope it helps.
Sent from my old but still kickin Epic 4g
Whenever I have a problem it is always the cable, the port or the computer itself. I just try varying combinations until I get it to pick it up, if it is just the initial recognition I don't see how it can be anything else
I've had my system USB drivers corrupt before. Try getting drive sweeper and look up how to do a reinstall of those drivers (not the samsung drivers).
I tried odin3 v1.85 -worked for me, where earlier Odin v1.3 would not recognize the phone (Epic) while in download mode.
Can you get to CWM with 3-finger boot? May be easier to go that route...
Other thing I've run into when Odin doesn't want to work is you need reboots after each stage like this:
Uninstall drivers
Reboot
Install drivers
Reboot
Open Odin and then connect phone in download mode.
If I skip the reboots, many times it won't recognize phone.

[Q] USB/Computer connection issue

Hello XDA!
I don't want to post a wall of text (not that tall of a wall, at least), so, I'll try to get to the point quickly. And yes, I have done a lot of searching, both on XDA and Google, and that will be proved soon enough with the solutions that I've tried so far.
The problem I'm currently experiencing is when I connect my phone to my computer, it charges but it isn't recognized. There is no USB notifications, no phone in My Computer, and no Windows pop up, whether it's a pop up asking me to install drivers or an unknown device has been connected, nothing. Mind you, everything has been working flawlessly, this just randomly, and I really do mean randomly, started happening. The phone has never been dropped and there is no water damage. I'm still using the USB cable that came with the phone. And, if it matters, I'm rooted, running the leaked LI8 JB ROM, stock kernel, and UVLEM baseband.
Here's a list of said solutions that I've tried so far:
Using a thin paint brush, wet the tip a little with alcohol and tried cleaning out the USB port
Connecting to a different computer, connecting with a different cable, connecting to any other USB ports on the computer
After making Nandroid backup: Data wipe/factory reset, flashing a different ROM
Remove Samsung USB drivers and reinstalling, also tried installing Samsung Kies
Uncheck USB debugging and restarting, checking USB debugging and restarting
Dialled *#7284#, select Modem, then reselect PDA, changing Qualcomm USB settings and changing it back to MTP + ADB
Turn off phone, remove battery for 30 sec, reinsert and boot up (soft reset to reset internal circuitry as described by a Samsung live chat service tech)
I might've left out a couple, but please do enlighten me of methods that you might know, I'll be sure to try it or let you know if it's already been attempted.
..also, when connected to my PC, under Settings > Battery, it shows "Charging (AC)" IIRC, this should be showing "Charging (USB)".
This next attempt stood out to me. I decided I would try and go back to the stock firmware, one where I would have to use Odin3. So, I put the phone in Download Mode, open up Odin3, connect the phone, and I get a pop up in Windows! It's trying to install drivers, and fails. I can't flash the stock Samsung firmware if I wanted to, even for warranty purposes. I do currently have the USB drivers installed, but my PC hasn't gone through the driver installation for when the phone is connected to the computer. So, I'm assuming that is why this is failing? I'm not entirely sure. But, when I saw this, I unplug the phone and plug it back in numerous times, to rule out that this might be a hardware problem. And, every time I plug it back in, it tries to install the drivers but fails. So, it's detecting my phone in Download Mode. I reboot and hope that it will detect normally, but no, it doesn't...
As a last resort, I went to Samsung.com and chatted with a service tech, he runs me through two procedures that I haven't done, the 'soft reset' and a 'master reset', which is done through Settings > Back up and Reset > Factory Data Reset. Neither worked, so, he then checks my IMEI and finds that I am still under the 1 year warranty and files a ticket for repair service. I asked him if there is a replacement warranty and he says that is done through my service provider (T-Mobile) with the Premium Handset Protection service, which I didn't add. Not because I didn't want to, but I can explain in later posts if someone is interested in why it wasn't added. So, now I have the return label in my inbox ready to be printed, taped onto a box containing my phone, and sent out. But, I can't go through with this because I have a custom ROM on the phone. There is no counter because I've already used Triangle Away, AFTER this started happening.
I am completely stumped... Any information is greatly appreciated!
EDIT: Also, I've disassembled the phone to check the MicroUSB port to see if any pins or prongs might've came loose. Everything is in tact.. I also wanted to see if the MicroUSB port was replaceable because I was able to find a spare MicroUSB ports on a website. But, it seems that the port isn't easily replaceable. It doesn't look removable, and I'm uncertain if it can be de-soldered to solder a replacement one on. Also, some thing caught my eye when I had it disassembled. There were two components of the phone that had SGH-I747 imprinted on them. I wasn't able to take pictures as I was in a rush to get it put back together, but thought it was of interest to bring up.
How do you have a custom ROM if you flashed the stock one? I'm confused..
Try installing drivers through the toolkit.
If windows recognized it in Download Mode, keep trying to unplug and replug the cable in the same and different ports until it installs?
This happened once on my Galaxy S 4G.
Uninstall all related drivers, kies, etc. Restart pc and download and install these drivers. (Should be latest)
http://d-h.st/zya
Or download and install latest version of kies. Drivers included.
Try connecting again.

Thank you for your input, but I doubt this would work in my situation. Ive tried connecting it to my laptop and another computer in the house and they both do not detect the phone. However, i would consider going that route as a last resort if there arent any other ideas.. i just need Odin3 to recognize it so i can revert and send it back in..

USB OTG cable not detected

I have been using my OTG cable for a couple of months now. I normally use it to connect my s3 to my usb speakers which worked flawlessly. One day I was listening to music using my usb speakers and suddenly it stops working. Ever since then, whenever I plug my OTG cable to any usb device, nothing happens. Any ideas on what may have happened and how may I resolve this issue?

First thing I would do is to try a different OTG usb cable or usb extension cable , or try the existing usb cable with a different phone.
The phone does not need to be the same make or model.
Good luck!

You can also try this:
Get a contact enhancing agent like Deoxit! or Cramolin and put a tiny dab on the contacts of the cable and insert and remove the cable in the USB socket. DO NOT FLOOD THE CONNECTOR! a tiny amount works better. On the Cramolin label says the less you use the better it works... that should help you get it working. Sometimes pocket lint gets in that connector and makes it hard to get working. A can of "canned Air" would not hurt using it in the contact area of both the plug and socket. It'd also help getting the fluids into the plug before reinserting into the socket.
Good luck
P.S.
you can get the stuff from ebay, and cramolin frrom ebay... Cramolin is or at least was cheaper, but I think Deoxit! works better.

I Don't believe the Stock recovery lets flashing any zips. If the USB port is truly broken hardware wise, go for repair.
Perseus is correct. The only update.zip stock recovery will work with is for an OTA.

I don't know about that, might it be you don't have the correct drivers, can you verify the USB is getting power? And for getting a stock .zip to flash, can't you just take your sdcard into an adapter, place it on there, and place it back into your phone and flash from there? Or am I missing something and it's not that simple?

[Q] Can't connect to ODIN after 4.3.3 update!

I upgraded from Stock 4.1.2 to Stock 4.3.3 (L900VPUBMK4) today. I did this via ODIN3 v3.09. Not my first time flashing a device. Not my first time with Odin. It upgraded no problem. Package installed, phone rebooted, on boot the package completed installation, rebooted again, and then came up shiny new 4.3.3.
Next step, of course, was to re-root. I went back into Download Mode, opened up Odin, plugged back in the phone, and NOTHING. It wouldn't connect to Odin. Mind you, this is the same Computer, Drivers, Cable, and Odin that I'd used 10 minutes beforehand and several times in the past.
I don't get it! I've tried re-installing my Samsung drivers, just for fun. I tried another cable. Also, when the phone's booted up in normal mode, the phone connects fine to the computer as a Media Device. I can't make this sucker connect to Download Mode all of a sudden!
ANY IDEAS?! Sure would appreciate it!

Well, I found Debug Mode. For those interested, it's hidden in 4.3. Go to About Phone, then tap Build Number a bunch of times until it opens up Dev Options.
Anyway... Still no luck. In USB Debug Mode, in Download Mode, Odin still doesn't see the device.
Different cable. When flashing phones (using Odin, QPST, DFS, CDMA WS, etc.) I ALWAYS use the OFFICIAL HTC usb cable. It works with every phone that has a micro USB port (duh) and it's NEVER given me any problems. I'm sure the same can be said for other brand name cables, but I stick with what I know. Try a different cable. My generic China cable will do EVERYTHING...except get a COM port in Odin.
If this doesn't work, your charging port might be boned. It's possible a single pin may be damaged, preventing a data connection.
YES!

Maybe it IS my cables!!?!?!!?! TWO of them!
So! I just uninstalled my drivers again and reinstalled them. Still no luck. So I got super-frustrated and just started plugging and unplugging into different USB ports. All of a sudden, I got back to my "normal" port and heard the USB connect sound!!?!?! Then the drivers re-installed, then Odin connected!
I installed CF-Auto-Root! My phone's still not rooted, and I don't know why yet. But at least now I have options!
THANKS TO ALL THAT STOPPED BY TO HELP!!!

It's been just me and you in this thread buddy lol. Don't use CF auto root. It doesn't work for MK4. Use Kingoroot (you can google it and find the program). It looks like an iffy program but it seems like some kind of multiroot and from what I can tell, it's very credible. Just put your phone into MTP+ADB (USB Debugging) and start the program. After a few minutes, your device will be rooted. Couldn't be easier.

Yes...Kingoroot will work for a 4.3 ROM. Used it myself with no problems.
