Open KFU, select boot mode, and select recovery.
It's better to use TWRP 2.1.1 + FFF 1.4a at the moment.

Hi.
When I root my Kindle fire , using youtube tutorials I get to a TWRP screen on my Kindle.
Not as shown as in the videos..
Anyone knows why and how to fix this?
When I run the KFU and press 2, it loads everything and success and then it says please wait....
I look on my Kindle and its on the TWRP..
Select reboot then system if prompted...
Connect your KF to computer and run Kindle Fire Utility. Then try to change bootmode to 4000.
Or turn off device, connect to computer, set command in Kindle Fire Utility ( change bootmode to 4000) and
turn on device. It should works.

How can I know if my Kindle is rooted?
The easiest and least technical way would be to side-load a "for root only" apk to see if it works. (hint: you won't find one at the Amazon app store)
same here

I'm have the same problem as original poster and they updated the video instructions to say:
***NOTICE
there seems to be an issue with the kindle fire utility not installing the superuser app which will finish giving you root. So what you can do to remedy this is once you have the twrp recovery, you can flash this stock rooted version of 6.3 (THIS WILL WIPE ALL UR DATA)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1569298
OR you can just download this superuser.apk, and sideload it onto your kindle fire (I have a video for sideloading if you dont know how, your data will NOT be wiped)

Is the "superuser.apk" the "for root only"apk your referring too???? What's a "for root only"apk or where can I find info about it?????
Thanks,
Marty
Have you had any luck in getting it to work? Im having the same issue unfortunately
I recently rooted my kindle fire with kindle utility v9.6.0 and installed twrp and everything. It wasn't really responsive so I tried tp revert back to stock software. I folled some tutorials were they downloaded the ZIP file of the update directly from amazon and dragged it into the kinde then booted from TWRP wiped cache davlik and rom then installed the ZIP. I folled these tutorial step by step and I reboot the kindle but it got stuck on the original kindle fire logo. I can't access the files on it, I uninstalled the adb drivers and installed amazon drivers and then it sowed up on the kindle fire utility. I tried rooting it again with fff and superuser and TWRP and it says complete the device has been told to boot in fast mode it always just stays on the logo screen. this is a first gen kindle fire. Please Help me I really want to get this thing up and running again.

thank you and yes I want to try the new soupkit
My kindle has an otterX (from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2671619 ) and i just get the Kindle Fire logo and press to open bootmenu. I cannot boot into revoery for some reason and upon clicking continue boot the kindle fire just shuts off. i can't figure out what i need to do to get it unstuck from this situation or if i can throw it into fastboot. when sitting in the bootmenu the kindle shows up in Device Manager as a Kindle Fire (below when Kindle Fire is clicked) and then Android composite ADB Interface. Would rekindle work? i seriously don't want this kindle to be bricked/broken.

When that has happened to me it was from a incompatible recovery or corrupt recovery.
when you see the bootloader it is in Fastboot mode.
just reflash a recovery like otterx-twrp-2.7.1.0-recovery.img
in command prompt
Code:
fastboot flash recovery otterx-twrp-2.7.1.0-recovery.img
fastboot reboot
still confused...
i am getting an error saying it cannot open the file.
did you watch my video? [YouTube] OtterX ROM/TWRP/Bootloader [2014-05-08]

i've gotten TWRP to install. i couldn't get the otterX one i needed to install so i installed one i downloaded else where. i was originally wanting KitKat on here but don't want that fiasco to happen again. unfortunately now i cannot boot normally. just gets to the Kindle Fire Logo and restarts.
Is the bootloader set to amazon or otters partitions?
Sent from my Amazon OtterX using Tapatalk
i think it's on amazon. however upon reading some articles of what i was doing the version i have now isn't able to haandle what im doing so i have to update twrp.
You need to pick a direction otterx, or other custom ROM, or stock
Sent from my Amazon OtterX using Tapatalk
using the updated version of twrp thats compatible with installing KitKat will that be possible to leave it amazon or would i need to use otterX for CM11 KitKat?
You can install whatever you want, just need to tell me so I can give correct directions.
You need to check Bootloader settings, advanced does it say amazon or or otterx partitions
Sent from my Amazon OtterX using Tapatalk
i don't see a way to check that. im using the fff-u-boot v1.5 bootloader i believe (not to sure, pretty new to android and rooting) (with openrecovery-twrp-2.2.2.1-blaze (need to update downloaded 2.8.0.2-blaze already) sorry for my being a noob with this. your helping a ton though :highfive: .
1.5 FFF is not otterx just otter
flash openrecovery-twrp-2.8.0.2-blaze.img
Code:
fastboot flash recovery openrecovery-twrp-2.8.0.2-blaze.img
fastboot reboot
in TWRP Wipe/factory reset
install cm-11-20140916-SNAPSHOT-M10-otter.zip
and PA MINI MODULAR PACKAGE GApps
in TWRP
im having an issue getting into fastboot mode. i've tried restarting my kindle and running fastboot commands. the command to install the updated twrp is still saying waiting for device.
When you see Bootloader it's in fastboot mode
Could be a drivers issue.
When I flash, I usually start with connecting USB cable, then power off kindle, run commands, reboot kindle
Sent from my Amazon OtterX using Tapatalk
The Fastboot mode finally loaded. had to pull the device manager and begin process of pointing out driver and shut off the kindle and as it hit the bootloader point i had to install driver. i believe my issues have been resolved. It booted up KitKat just now. THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!! :victory: :highfive:

Haha good for you... Have nice day
I have been trying to use the KFU to root, but at the end of the command prompt, it says Waiting on Device. I have left it like this for 15 minutes to no avail and I can interact fully with the kindle. I'm running 6.3.3 on the kindle and windows 8 on my laptop. I have tried installing the drivers but no matter what I do, the kindle still shows up as Kindle Fire in device manager, although if I click the drop down arrow, it says Android Composite ADB Interface. When I load up KFU, it registers that the device is connected and says ADB Status: Connected, but Boot Status is unknown. I don't know what to try, can anyone help?

Yes I can get to twrp, but I cannot boot into the OS. If I boot up and select boot normally, it goes to the orange kindle fire logo then the screen cuts off. I'd like install CM 10 which I have downloaded on my laptop.

Just use mount sd card option in twrp.
mount>check sd card >mount usb
should get a popup in windows>click view files
copy CM10 and Gapps to sd card
unmount usb in TWRP
wipe>factory reset
install Cm10 and gapps

Great, If you want to upgrade to CM11 you will have to upgrade twrp first.

So I am in a bind.
I had TWRP and N2K type utiltiy that was working. i tried to wipe and reset and here is where i am now.
so i have a first generation kindle fire. i load TWRP and get to recovery boot which brings me to team win. TWRP is version 2.6.3.0.
I do not have access to the kindle drivers. so the only thing i can do is access it though mount.
so i mounted the device and added the most recent update (changing it to update.zip) but its not working. it still starts with the blue kindle fire setting and only in TWRP. i cant recover it to normal. when i go into the device i only have 2 folder. TWRP and .android_secure.
i just want to know how to get back to factory settings. I tried using a kindle boot device but it wont recognized the kindle because it is only recognizing it as a usb drive.
any ideas? not sure what other information you need to help. please help - thanks!
Sir,
Please wait until mods will move this thread to the device specific forum for more relevant answers.
