Google Music not playing songs on external SD card. - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989

Ever since updating to 4.0.3, Google music will periodically not be able to play songs from the sd card. I can play songs that are on the internal memory via Google music, and power amp can play music from the sd card. Also, I find that when I try to use the camera, I get the message that media scanner is running. I believe that is is causing Google music to behave this way as well, but I'm not sure why since I don't have a problem using power amp at all, and I don't understand why a media scan is commencing. Here is a screen shot of the message that I get in Google music.

Also, when I go to settings to clear data, this does not fix the problem either.

Any help?

-go to Settings -> Apps -> Media Storage -> Clear Data
-then download any "Rescan Media" app from the market and run it.
Give it time to rescan your media and it should be good to go.
It took about 10 minutes to scan mine.

if rescan media doesnt work.
try downloading the rescan media app in the market.
if google play music is not working on the cloud.. login to google play music on yur computer. go to devices and delete some old devices you might have activated still that you dont have anymore.
Restart your phone and VWUALA!

When all else fails, uninstall and reinstall. Clear the cache prior to uninstalling though.

I had this problem with almost every rom except darkside. I got mad and passed and raged so I gave up in Google Music and just started using Apollo. It makes Google Music look like crap. Also power amp is really good, for a long time aswell I'd use it till I met Apollo lol try Apollo.

Multiple issues can cause this, haven't figured out a couple. Most notable missing piece here is what Rom? Most common cm9 or aokp lib issues. Fixes in order from easy to ?really?: Cache clear as mentioned above and rescan, Zip align on boot, Fix permissions, dsp manager or awesome beats mod to fix libs, v6 supercharger which is a combo of some above.
Annoying cause which I can't narrow down. Run play music and Pandora together, by accident of course because auto run on bt, play music dead. Redo above or nandroid. Temp Fix to prevent remove autorun.
Not my fault if you break something

[Q] Switching Audio Enhancements - SRS / Dolby etc - and Android App Inventor

Finally got my handset this week, it's pretty sweet, I used to cook ROMs for the Toapz so Android is "a new toy" for me.
On the Topaz, well WM6.5 really, you could turn SRS off or on for any audio going through the headset/earphones. But I cannot find a way to do that on our DHD's via any of the obvious settings dialogues, other than exclusively in the hTC Music app?
This is pretty crap for me as I use the handset with last.fm, but cannot find a way to adjust the sound properties. Am I being an Android noob, or is this just simply not accessible at the moment?
I have no idea about the new Android App Inventor software, but could this be used to make a toggle widget for example?
I found it from default music player, but i don't know is it working with Last.fm.. But the Surround work really! I have tested it with Finnish tv program, TVKaista fo Android..

I've found that too, and you're right, it sounds pretty good.
But I can not find a way of activating it in applications other than native hTC ones?
On another note, the DLNA streaming is awesome, but again, is there any way to activate this for other applications other than the native hTC selection?
Start playing something on last fm. Press your home button and launch the htc music app. Make sure you have SRS/Dolby on. Press play and then pause. The sound on lastfm should be enhanced now. That's a "dirty" method to make it work (hopefully).

Nope. You can't trick it either.
Switching the enhancements has no effect, and as soon as you press play in hTC Music, last.fm stops playing and starts scrobbling the track that's loaded in Music - you cannot play both at once, they're linked.
Any other ideas?

I havent tried last.fm. But what I normally do is press play on the HTC Music app and then press play on the other app - this stops the HTC Music app, but the effects (Dolby/SRS) remain active. However, any (sound) notification, like, an new email/message, then the effects goes off. You have to start the process all over again .

Random status bar ads (fixed) and screen sometimes not waking.

Can anybody tell me what this is or how I could find out be it task manager or whatever... It appears every now and then whenever I'm connected to the web for an extended period of time. It stayed even after killing all programs via go launcher task manager

Do you have a music downloader on your phone? If you do, clear its app data and it will most likely go away.
If you don't have one or it doesn't work, then download Airpush and it will pinpoint the source

It was the music downloaded that was doing that for me. If you have it uninstall it. If you need a need a new one search for "music junk.apk" on 4shared.com. worked for me!

I just use YouTube downloader and save HD music vids as mp3 only it rips the HD audio and trashes the video most songs end up about 4-7mb with excellent quality

Thanks! Haven't seen any since I cleared the data.. also downloaded Airpush and found out some other apps were making different ads pop up which is useful info...
I guess I'll ask a second question while I've already got this thread: Does anyone know if WidgetLocker could cause the phone to not wake when the button is pressed, or perhaps anything else that could cause it.. I sometimes have to plug the charger in so that the screen comes on and after that it's okay. It's fine when i'm at home but potentially quite a major inconvenience.
WidgetLocker has randomly given me all kinds of odd issues not waking the screen, not being locked when woken up, changing themes on its own, moving or deleting Widgets finally it got sidelined for go locker now that it supports custom shortcuts

If you don't mind me asking, how do you do this? I used to have a program that I found on the Market named YouTube downloader, but I can't seem to find it anymore.

Can you use lockscreen widgets (like poweramp) with go locker? I had it once before and couldn't very effectively, so I used WL because I could..

Jelly Bean Google Music App

Don't know if everyone is aware of this yet, but it seems Google has updated the Google Music app for Jelly Bean:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1350164
I haven't tried it yet so I'm not sure what changes they made from ICS, but I understand there is an updated widget, which is good enough for me.
Sorry if this is a double post... I can't find a thread-specific search function in new XDA (which I otherwise love, btw)
Here is a quote of the linked-to post, but make sure to go to the original to get the attached files (and to thank him)

EDIT: Because Samsung bundled Google Music as a system app, this won't work if you're not rooted.
Am I crazy? I can't see how to save songs offline in this version.

That's the same thing I've posted here. The change from 4.3.605 to 4.3.606 was just to push it out to everyone via the market. It's the same app. (and the link I posted has updated to 4.3.606 anyway)

Also when i have hardware overlay disabled for play dead trigger, i cant watch hd youtube vidoes in full screen, the picture freezes.

It's this Google Music? This is an issue that started for me with the most recent update to Google Music a couple of weeks ago. I rolled back to an earlier version using titanium backup and the problem is gone. Might have to wait for another update our use a different player.

nah its the stock app.
Both of those are problems with the apps not the phone or jellybean.
Contact app developer (doubt it'll do anything) but it is what it is.

Solution:Clearing the data from Media storage, then force stopping and restarting the phone did the trick!
Use ES file Explore.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.estrongs.android.pop
Have you tried installing an app that rescans the phone for media like photos. This seems to solve the issue for me but I'm not moving anything to SD card this is on the phone itself

I would suggest clearing the data for the gallery app to force it to rebuild its database.
Reboot the phone or clear the gallery app data

Tried clearing the data and cache from the HTC gallery app but no luck.
Also tried some rescanning apps from the Play store, no luck.
However, clearing the data from Media storage, then force stopping and restarting the phone did the trick!
I had same issue as it was as simple as moving them from the dcim folder to a folder titled 'pictures'.
I had about 30 folders of pics and when I moved them to dcim on external sd the HTC gallery app couldn't see any of them.
