hi all,
i just got myself a Telstra Desire. have been using HD2 for a while and decided to go onto the Android bandwagon.
In HD2, i know what to do for flashing ROM but not in android.
my question here is do i need to "root" my Desire if i want to install this ROM onto my Desire "RUU_Bravo_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.29.405.5_Radio_32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27_release_159811_signed.exe"?
My main purpose is to remove all the Telstra branded bloatware on my Desire.
Thank you for replying.
You do not need to root to install a RUU, you will need to create a gold card (search Google)

If you run into difficulty with creating the Gold Card, try using the Gold Card tool in my sig below.

I'm in the same situation. I just gave my wife a Desire for Xmas and want to know if it is necessary to root the device to flash a custom ROM. And if so, can I use unrevoked3 to do so?
Yes, to flash a custom (unsigned) rom, then you will need to root your desire, you can use unrEVOked for this. If you are branded, then all you require to flash official (signed) roms (like the official ruu posted above) is a Gold Card to unlock your phones CID.

You must find out the correct RUU for your Desire, you need to know if it was a branded phone or not and if it is AMOLED or SLCD. Cannot think on any other specification right now that would keep you from finding the right RUU...

I have a Desire that was originally Vodafone branded, Romania. I messed up something and I decided to use a RUU. Of course I couldn't find one from VDF RO, so I decided to use a WWE, the latest and it worked. You can also try it, but you still need to figure out if it's an AMOLED or a SLCD, I think.

You have to rename the file PG76IMG.zip

I know that, that I need to rename. I have do this, but when updating, it skip couple point and update only BOOTLOADER and RADIOS.

Ah, I see what you mean. Isn't that normal, seeing as how you're just flashing stock and not actually upgrading your firmware.

Yes, this is why Im looking some metode to change misc version to cheat OS that this file will upgrade whole system and all elements are in newer version then that on the phone.
I have do this couple times in my Desire Z using misc_version file, but this is not working on this phone.
Any ideas?
I got root on it and can execute root commands on adb shell, so only need to know what to change.

The worst thing is... that I put Custom recovery, then apply custop rom (G1320110824XDA.zip) from forum, and when right now want to put stock rom from recovery, stil updating BOOTLOADE and RADIOs, nothing else.
Will try some other thing...
Done!
I have download
RUU_Marvel_HTC_Europe_1.30.401.0_Radio_47.10.35.3029H_7.46.35.08_release_183799_signed.exe
from forum, extract rom.zip, rename, put on sd and update from recovery, and all goes well!
Probobly the
PG76IMG_Marvel_HTC_Europe_1.33.401.2_Radio_47.10.35.3029H_7.46.35.08_release_185724_signed.zip
from forum got some bug on it, and recovery dont recognize it correctly.
Just to be sure...
After putting 1.30 rom, I try to put 1.33 on update in recovery, and also, only BOOTLOADER and RADIOs got updated.
So, if you want to debrand, you need to use 1.30, then try to update your system over air (OTA) to newest version. I think that will be easier.

Hi folks,
I bought my HOX from Amazon. Apparently it came up with HTC rom + slight changes did by the European mobile phone company Vodafone.
Currently, the operating system version is 4.0.3
Sense version is 4.0
Software version 1.29.161.13
Keneral 2.6.39.4-g1389c4c root @ ABM041 # 1 SMP PREEMPT
The problem: I did not get the latest update, and from what I understand, it depends on Vodafone's mood.
I want to have the stock rom, HTC original, no extra and no need to depend any gesture of goodwill of a cellular company.
How could I do this?
Thank you!

If I'll change to stock:
1. Will I have to format my device?
2. Will I get in the future the official OTA updates?

If you're running on 100% stock Vodafone you have to wait on them to push the update - you can't use an unbranded RUU

RUU = ROM Upgrade Utility
If you went custom you could still get OTAs but I wouldn't recommend it as it tends to screw up the phone

HTC sell the One X SIM-free which has stock, unbranded FW on it. They also supply carriers with their own version of the FW with the carrier's own apps/settings, etc. With older HTC handsets if you can set it to S-OFF (or use a Gold Card) you can 'debrand' the phone and change it to be the SIM-free version. You can't do that with the One X so unless you unlock the bootloader and flash a custom ROM you will ONLY get updates from Vodafone UK. If you go custom it's recommended you do not apply OTA updates as it can cause problems
Hello, i have 2 questions before installing this rom on my unlocked AT&T htc one m8.
1. can i put the rom on my external micro sd card, and not in virtual SD card, so i can flash it from the external sd card.
2. Most important, I got my htc one m8 from AT&T in the U.S, but i unlocked it, and put viper rom on it. and i'm using it in europe.
Now i want to try this rom, but i missing important info:
In the install process, can i chose "htc one (internional)" - As i using this in EU, and not the second option? (U.S AT&T).
Or this is not recommended, and might hurt my device?
Thanks in advance.
Best regards

For question 1 yes you can install it from ext-sd but internal sd is safe. Also you can try from usb-otg.
For qs-2 It wont hurt your device. If you are supercid you can choose any one you like. But I would recommend that you try the international option.Best of luck in flashing.
