Development thread fork - HTC Wildfire S

We should fork the development thread for gsm and cdma devices to keep ppl from getting mixed up
sent from my HTC marvelc

thats not a bad idea that would save me alot of reading and searching aswel:laugh:

Lol thanks buttons always open

I agree for sure. Even though the Cdma forum would be very small haha but I hit the like button anyway.

It would have avoided a lot of confusion, but modpunk is now attempting to merge cdma code in his cm9 rom. In what forum would hybrid development be discussed?

I think I read somewhere though if he merges we will never get official support i dnt remember where but yea

Marvel and marvelc cannot coexist; as, they are two [slightly] different boards. As one must specify a board in aosp, this will not work. Now, if someone makes an Aroma [temporarily defunct] installation that switches out neccesary items, it might work as a hybrid, but typically speaking, a ROM is either gsm or cdma. In aosp, you'd also need to write your no sim line to your tree if your cdma. This would screw up gsm. Etc, etc...
This was called for awhile back, but in retrospect, I'm a little glad it didn't happen...
Wildfire S temporarily got sent to the legacy boards for low traffic; if split, both gsm and cdma could land in legacy yet again.
Always positive and negative ways to look at it I suppose.
That all said, [and even though this is about the development section], we probably should curtail discussion threads to General unless they contain a lil development... Mods been cracking down of late

[Q] Cdma Desire Threads

I am just wondering why we haven't separated forums between gsm and cdma for the desire. It is a little confusing to find roms and help for cdma when it's all mixed together with gsm. Or is it just me, something i'm missing?
That's why we have this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=809328.
I think the numbers are just to low of people with cmda.

Thanks i did see this but its still not separated under desire's main forums and when i look for android development under desire it's still combined gsm and cdma. You are probably right though, the cdma numbers are probably too low. I guess i'm just an organizational freak and it just bothers me thats all.
I am a fellow cdma owner as well and also wish we had our own category lol

You could browse around over at www.teamuscellular.com. Even though this is mostly geared towards US Cellular customers, their phones are CDMA and most of the threads under the Android forums are people with the Desire (there are a few with Mesmerize too, but I find that most conversation is in regards to the HTC Desire CDMA).

I'll give it a try. xda rocks though.

Seperate GSM/CDMA Forums

Thinking that the Development forum should be split into two
One for CDMA/LTE
One for GSM
Seems like that would solve the confusion and prevent potential bricks.

I have to agree, it's quite painful to browse to find the correct version of things for the phone you have.

I thought maybe I was a noob and didn't understand why they weren't splitting the forums. It seems like some GSM mods/roms/kernels work on the LTE, so you really have to go through trial and error to see what works?
Splitting would be far the easiest, though, unless developers have to maintain double the amount of threads which could be a pain.

If it's going to be split, it needs to happen sooner rather than later, just because of people posting threads that accommodate both as time goes on.

Please god yes.
Coming from the Nexus S forums...their's is split between the 4G and the GSM version and that makes it extremely helpful...please mod-overloards...SPLIT THIS FORUM LIKE MOSES SPLIT THE SEA
i agree too but the only problem is that a few things work for both cdma and gsm.

I use to have the incredible and incredible 2 and it was frequent to have roms made from the evo and other htc devices... doesn't mean I go to the evo forum for the rom. Even though you are right, the positives far out weigh the negatives here none the less.
Please do!

I'd have to agree. And as for things that work on both, the author can post in both sections. That way they can field questions separately between the two, instead of having people with different devices posting in the same thread. Surprised this hasn't been done already.
Rabble rabble rabble.
Agreed! It could definitely clear up some confusion, even though I assume most members here are pretty smart.
I don't agree. What to do with general development threads, radio independent mods, etc?
Why not just "tag" the threads with [GSM] and [LTE] (like some devs already do).

? I don't get your point. There are no general development threads. Every mod is made for a specific model, they're not both compatible.
Radios are not cross-compatible. LTE radios only work with LTE. GSM .. same thing.
[GSM] and [LTE] are too disorganized. With two forums it makes things more organized and eliminates the chance of flashing something for the LTE when you have GSM (and vice versa).
Also, this is the wrong forum to be posting this. There are two other threads about this, we don't need another one.

Why are we not getting any admin response to what majority of the community wants? What are the pros on cons? I'm no pro but maybe the admins know why there isn't one yet..

Two Dev sub forums

This is message to a mod asking for two Dev forums. One for GSM and one for CDMA. Do you want or not want this to happen? Give me your opinions...

Hello. I need to ask you of a favor
I believe you are the moderater of the HTC Wildfire S forums. Could I ask you to split the development forums into two sections like the nexus s' - GSM and cdma. this would help rom builders a lot.

So there is a group or team that develops the rom(aokp, cm10), and when they put new builds out individuals pick then up and do the writing necessary to run a partocular device?
Sent from my One V using xda app-developers app
there's no "groups or teams" we BUILD CM10\AOKP\PA all from source i work on Base rom's which is CM9\CM10\AOSP when the CM* rom's get stable enough i pass them to maxwen and he finishes them off, which gives me free time to de-stress and spend time with girlfriend and work on other projects.
for CDMA JMZtaylor builds the Base rom's which are CM9\CM10
we work together......seeing threads like this drives me up the wall
Why would it drive you up a wall? Because I'm ignorant of what y'all do? I wish i could apologize for wanting to understand (sarcasm, mind you).

Dude,
XDA is NOT a support site of any kind.
It is a forum for developers, yes it has grown massivley over the years, but in general most folks on here are at least kinda techie, geeky, or both. There are also many users who just want to download cool stuff. There is nothing wrong with that but devs get annoyed when "users" don't want to take the time to learn forum rules, read, or do a bit of research.
Every dev on here is a volunteer, they do what they do because they enjoy it, and like being involved in a community of like minded folk who know the devices we spend our cold hard cash on are usually capable of much more than manufacturers like to release. Yes, there are "teams" large and small but they do not get paid for this, work under deadlines, or are expected to provide any support.
I don't mean to sound too cold, but with a little reading and research you could have found out all you needed to know about the CM team, AOKP, etc AND read in Lior's dev thread that his build is UNOFFICIAL meaning not an officially supported device by the actual aokp team. Even if it were an officially supported device that would not mean timetables, support, or warranty. Seriously, do a little research.
And understand, when you joined in August what number were you? Did you watch the "you are a noob" video, I made my son watch that when he joined. There are LOTS of new people here who demand, are rude etc. I am not saying that you are necasarily one of them, but when each device can count the number of devs on two hands or less, compared to the number of registered XDA users and you can see how a dev like Lior could get upset at your lack of wanting to read.
In the future, until you have contributed to this forum please refrain from even using sarcasm with a respected dev. Read, learn, and I hope you enjoy XDA, but remeber it is a developer forum, not a noob support site.
Regards.
Edit: ahhhh, just realized I kept typing Lior, and not Lloir, my apologies Dude.

Why is this not a sticky in every sub-forum?

I ran across this in the Nexus 4 Dev forum..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1982483
So why is this not the header of every dev section!!! ¡
I know you don't know.. Lol...
So you guys think we should have a similar post?

Definitely needed in this forum, seems like a lot of cherry-pickers looking for acknowledgment for cutting and pasting other peoples stuff.
Most roms out there are just cm or aokp with a few tweaks and cosmetic changes or a straight port .....always been that way and always will. Gonna be a real quiet dev section if "copies" weren't allowed. Most are just learning by doing this and sharing....I see no harm in it personally.
If we had more development than we do.....an original dev section and regular dev section may work....like nexus 7 forum for example....but with t989 I think moving roms to general or another dev section isn't necessary.
Just my opinion.

If you read the post. Those ROMs could go in the general section until they mature past a learning experience.

I read it just fine. And my personal opinion (yes...imho) is that it just mucks up the general section. Let people flash the copy roms if they want...their choice. And like I said....about half the t989 roms would end up there.
I just don't think our dev section is busy enough to be worried about this. Some phone sections definitely need these rules, nexus devices for example....but the t989 dev section is not so packed that I think those roms are muddying the waters much.
Where do you suggest the line be drawn as to what is suitable for dev section? We have cm, slim, aokp, skyrocket ports and other roms being altered slightly and in our dev section.....they aren't hurting anyone...and the guys are learning a lot and sometimes making improvements.....but, are they original works? ? So they will all go to general section?
I guess then, to agree in part, I think an original dev section, and a regular dev section may be a better idea. Again....like the nexus 7 for example.
The noobs get slammed by enough unamed veterans already for not searching hard enough.....putting a bunch of roms in general will just make it messy and worse.
Check out the i9100 general section. A mess if you ask me.
K....sorry for the novel!

Also....with t989 devs getting new devices and moving on....why not encourage and support the guys just starting out. Let them go at their pace.....they may be the veterans soon as our current top devs move on.
As I said, its the users choice to flash the roms they flash.....what's the difference what section they're in? To me....all roms should be in dev section. Much less confusion.

Eh, that's not completely true about Nexus forums; there are a lot of Nexus only/original ROMs out. Most newer devices have two dev forums; one for original development (custom kernels, 'original' ROMs, etc.), and the other just 'normal' android development (kangs like stated above).
If you want to see the 'original' ROMs, check out the original dev section.

I know what you're saying...and I think its a far better idea than putting any roms in general. Just too messy!
Sent from my cell phone telephone....
Yeah. I see where your coming from. It would be messy and that may get annoying as well.
But to be honest there is to much leniency in this forum. Dropping straight compiled builds from source "to learn" is not helping the community and is not helping that person learn...
I can build from source and compile that doesn't mean that I know how to build a ROM or that it's a good idea to post them and clutter up the dev section.
I can unzip an already built rom and move some application files around and add some stuff to the build.prop. Does that mean I built a ROM? No. It means that I know how to use WinZip. And definitely should never be in any dev section.
Now I also know some c# , some basic, a little bit C++. Now if I or somebody else use that knowledge to take a pre existing ROM and actually assist in the development or fix problems or issues then that is development and that would belong in the development section.
This is obviously all my opinion. Some of you may agree , some of you may not, some of you might even be one of these people I'm talking about. And this is neither here nor there I simply think everyday dev section should have a sticky like this.
