Telus T989D ICS CM9 nightly poor call quality *FIX* - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989

So I've been playing around with CM9 Rom and I had no issues with it except with the poor call quality on the recipient side of the call was poor (sounded like low bit rate) or (underwater as some say)
At first I had used the following which gave me the poor call quality:
cm-9-20120620-NIGHTLY-hercules
gapps-ics-20120429-signed
TELUS_SGH-T989D_LE4_ICS_Radio_MOD
to resolve the issue i was having I did the following updates....
cm-9-20120620-NIGHTLY-hercules
gapps-ics-20120429-signed
Blaze_4G_LB7_ICS_Radio_MOD
so basically just got the newest nightly build and changed the radio to Blaze and so far its been working great on both sides of calling...
hope this works for others as it did for me

No. The rom itself fixed the audio issue, not radio
Sent from Samsung Galaxy SIV

well when i was using the newest nightly rom with telus radio i still had the problem...
changed the radio and it works much better.... sorry i forgot to mention that....

Did you download nightly from the dropbox link Mike posted or from the cm site. The one from cm site did not have the fix implemented yet.

I got it from the CM site. was unaware of the dropbox link..

I will be testing this radio out further and see how long it lasts... If I have and issues with call quality I will then try Telus_SGH-T989D_Kj3_radio.

please stop using gb radios and radios that coem from the blaze. use the TLLE4 or the UVLE1 radios.

I have used those aswell and still had an issue with quality...
I have only been using ICS radios...Is the Telus_SGH-T989D_Kj3_radio a GB radio??
I was only interested in it as I have not tried it yet..
The blaze ICS radio seems to work

use either the TLLE4 or UVLE1 radios with the build mikeman77 has posted. users have mirrored it so others can get it since users have downloaded so much off his drop box they suspended it.
here is a mirror

thanks mr.x I will be trying this out ASAP
how is this build that mikeman77 posted any different?
can you send me the original link so I can do some reading on it?

I'm on Telus in Calgary and have never been able to see over 4 or 5 Mbps download on the Speedtest.net app using the Blaze radio. With Telus radios, I see over 20 Mbps.

Basically mikeman77 disabled BLN to reduce its battery drain and he fixed audio issues in the June 20th build. BLN is the backlight notification you can get on the buttons.

I'm using the uvle1 radio, and my call quality is perfect! However, I did have the underwater issues when I first flashed the team chopsticks alpha rom. So, all I really did afterwards was flash the nighty build dated on 6/17 directly over the cm9 rom, wiped cache/dalvik, NO data, and now everything works! Still running the same build.

I haven't flashed it yet, but know others have without issue. Did you check the MD5 hash? Could be a bad download. Did you wipe cache with cwr or use the cache wipe script?

hash is fine.
i used cwm.. didn't knew there is wipe script.
do i need to flash it with the script ? if yes where do i find it how do i flash it please ?
i can't boot up the phone anymore all i can do is use odin now.

It's sort of a known issue for most if you use CWR to wipe cache, you can get stuck on boot screen. It borks the cache partition. Here is the link to TDJ's cache wipe script. Make sure you only use the cache wipe script after flashing the ROM. The super wipe script is used before you flash the ROM. The cache wipe script download is right below the super wipe. Just place on your sd card and flash. that should fix your issue if the MD5 matches.....Good luck and let us know.

I thought you said in your post you had a T989D. I'm not sure the script will even work on your device.
I just went and looked at your post and you do have T989D listed in the post and then the i9100 in your signature. That leaves me a little confused.

AOKP Alpha 3|Now Milestone 4! [03/21/2012] Edited for USCC

First off, I take no credit for this, Credit goes to TEAM AOKP, Kbizzle , T.C.P., Sbrissen, Marcusant, and anyone else involved in the AOKP port to Epic 4G Touch. Vandam500 for quick easy guide for CM9. Bubby323 for CM7. (Anyone I missed, I am sorry, let me know I will put you up asap) Also thanks to SFHub for helping get the USCC variant rooted.
I, NOR ANYONE INVOLVED WITH THIS ROM ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR PHONE! FLASH AT YOUR OWN RISK, YOU MAY BRICK AND IT IS NOT MY FAULT. THROW IT IN THE TOLIET AND INSURANCE THAT THING. Read it all, be sure you know what you are doing before you get an expensive paper weight.
I did nothing to this rom but a few edits for USCC. Made changes for APN’s, build.prop. and eri.xml to show USCC.
Download USCC AOKP rom http://dl.dropbox.com/u/44439007/AO...m.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1514665.
Download CM7 from http://forums.acsyndicate.net/showthread.php?3372-ROM-UNOFFICIAL-Cyanogenmod-7-2-Alpha-6-(1-15-2012.
Put all this on your internal sd card. For simplicity sake I make a folder called roms and then /cm7 and /aokp inside and put the appropriate files there to avoid confusion.
Recommended install
From stock flash(odin) rooted FB14 kernel from here http://dl.dropbox.com/u/44439007/FB14_CWM_Sickin.tar
wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache, and wipe dalvik
install cm7 (no need to install gapps) REBOOT
after boot reboot into cwm
flash AOKP_build28_uscc.zip and then gapps for ics
wipe data/factory reset
reboot
enjoy
*NOTE* You will not have CWM after flashing AOKP. To get back I ODIN EB30 kernel, boot into CWM, and restored back up made earlier.
Also there are still options for 4G, I do not know much about editing them and will worry about them later, for now just ignore them.
Be sure to thank and show your appreciation to everyone involved.
Sickin,
If you can, make sure to post how to put CWM on the phone, I have all the files downloaded, just waiting on getting CWM.
Flash the EB30 clockwork kernel from here http://goo-inside.me/stock/epic4gtouch/kernel/acs-eb30-clockwork-epic-touch-4g-sep-20-4-00-pm.tar
that will give you cwm and you can go from there. Didn't realize the kernel flashed on SFHub's updated version didn't have cwm. Use odin to flash the kernel and go from there, that should take care of it.
EDIT: Sorry should have specified that you need to go back to either the EB30 or the EK02 kernel from SFHub's method, do not flash the stock kernel back or you lose CWM.
nice job but u don't really need cm7 or gapps just flash acs el29 kernel and use calks format all then install from and gapps, avoid all the extra steps.

They are all based off the Linux kernel. You just need to make sure you're flashing the correct version intended for your ROM. The later ROMS are running off Linux 3.4.x. However, Keep in mind that the latest kernels will NOT work on ROMs that were released before 4/19. Be sure to only flash the updated kernels released on that date or later or your phone will not boot . So in your case you must update to one of the latest CM nightlies (AFTER 4/19) if you wanna flash any of these later 3rd party kernels.
For future reference you can check the linux version of any ROM in Settings > About Phone> Kernel version. Also do some more reading next time bud. This whole kernel deal has been discussed countless times in numerous threads.

OK, I'm also having troubles with tethering. While I have very few posts here, I'm not exactly inexperienced. I've been putting custom ROMs on since I had my G1.
I'm running a recently nightly of CM10.1 (4/20 so a 3.4 kernel) and obviously (as discussed above) it can't natively do wifi tethering. Found this thread and a couple others stating a needed a different kernel (that's a first for me, hadn't ventured into changing kernels).
Searched around and initially went with BMS, however I had the same problem - no wifi tethering.
Based on the advice here, downloaded and installed Ktoonsez's K747 kernel. Same thing.
In all cases, I've tried with WPA2 and unsecured. In all cases, devices can see the AP and can connect but no data is transferred. There has got to be something simple I am missing here. I really miss tethering (use it for internet on my Transformer Prime when I'm on the road).

Something is clearly wrong here. I just did a completely clean flash (factory reset/wipe) of the latest nightly and then laid on the latest KT kernel and I still have no hotspot ability whether with WPA2 or open. I can see the hotspot but no data transfers.

Hmm, USB tethering doesn't work either. I'm guessing there is one common cause
By golly, I think I've got it. I did ANOTHER wipe and install and immediately tried the hotspot and it worked. Prior to this, I noted that my CWM was horribly out of date and was not 3.4 kernel aware (as evidenced by nested 0 directories). So I fixed that and then flashed and it worked. I then went to work restoring data using Titanium backup and that's when things went to hell. Something in the restore hoses the ability to use the hotspot. So now I am doing a more controlled recovery hoping that I can get back all the data I need without hosing the hotspot.
So, this explains why a dirty flash didn't work. Whatever breaks it was obviously there under the dirty flash. And my previous clean flashes always had a restore via TB immediately afterwards.
So, not sure whether it is only the restore issue, or if the old CWM also had a hand in it, but either way, I think I'm gonna succeed here.
Can someone post a step by step fix please?
I have the same problem; I have tried to replicate the solutions here, to no avail. Flashed anew, still same problem.
Can someone please post a step-by-step fix? Can I just flash a new kernel and be done? I'm on CyanogenMod ROM, 4.4.2, 11-20140210.
Thanks!

Are you talking about CMTeamEpic's CM10.1 nightlies? If so, I have flashed them as well. Once I do (regardless of a CM10 --> CM10.1 or Stock rooted GB/ICS --> CM10.1), I get the same problem with the modem. Under the about tab of settings, I see "Baseband Version Unknown". As seen in the attached screenshot. I'm going to continue to play around with the builds to see if I can find a workaround. Have you found one yet?
EDIT: I have also tried flashing the build then flashing the FF18 modem and then FL24 modem (both are ICS modems from rwilco) to no avail.
EDIT 2: You might want to change (or ask a moderator to change) the title of the OP to CM10.1, since that's what you're asking about.
EDIT 3: I figured out what the problem was. Some files leftover after flashing conflict with the 4.2.2 CM10.1 build. What I did to fix it was this: backup any important files on the internal memory, flash back to a stock ICS build (I chose FF18), factory reset from within the build (this clears everything on the internal memory), flash to a rooted ICS build (again, I chose FF18), flash a safe CWM bootloader, and flash the nightly you want. Hope this helps. Respond or PM me if you want more details.
dastin is using phantom freaks build bot and will be generating his nightlies. that's what your seeing. The other dev works was abandoned.
clean flash since its an entirely diff kernel now.
Sorry tried a couple different ways then gave up and went to CM 10.1 wild on the night. But what had happened was I was on CMTeamEpic's CM 10 4.1.2 and it sent me a CM 10.1 nightly in the CMupdater and I Installed it and the modem was crap but now that there is a work around for Netflix on Wild I'm sticking to this one. sorry I responded so late been crazy busy with work and what not.

[Q] Unstable NS4G modem and Slim Rom

I have read the Slim Rom thread and other NS4G threads extensively, and don't have a good answer for this.
Why does my Epic 4g occasionally get the "No Baseband" error (no radio)? This happens after a reboot, or if I reboot into TWRP recovery and clear caches. To fix, I have to reflash Switch2NexusModem.zip and then EFFSI's kernel.
I did follow steps provided by TexasEpic4G, in the Slim Rom thread:
IF ( and ONLY if ) you are currently on the nexus modem .....
1) wipe data/cache/dalvik
2) flash ROM
3) flash Gapps
4) flash http://goo.im/devs/effsi/Misc/Swap2NexusMdm.zip
5) Nexus Modems can be found here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...83&postcount=1
6) flash kernel http://goo.im/devs/effsi/JB/Kernel/N....2Nm-0308m.zip
PROFIT
I am on the default TWRP included in EFFSI rom.
I have never ODIN'd a radio, but am thinking that may help.
Any thoughts?
After you flash everything, reboot to recovery and flash the modem again. It may or may not work, but every time I had your problem, rebooting to recovery and flashing the modem again usually fixed it.

Thanks everyone for your help! I should add that in addition to the NS4G problem, GPS was not working on my phone either.
I did ODIN back to FC09, but I had tried that before, and did not help NS4G for me.
I did come across the thread on EFS Clear, here:

It fixed my GPS problem = )
I am on Ting, not sprint, but had no problems at all re-activating after doing EFS clear while on FC09.
I haven't had time yet to try NS4G again, but EFS clear did fix my GPS.
Will post back when I have results for NS4G.
Thanks again everyone! Love our Epic 4g community here.

S2 signal issues 4.2.2

Hi, I'm looking for a solution. I rooted my girlfriend's T-Mobile s2 and changed out the rom for slim 4.2 and it worked well without any signal issues. I then updated to a later build (build 6&7, tried both) and tried other 4.2.2 roms. I noticed she wasn't getting signal at all. I was told to install the 4.1.2 radio for it. I did just that, and it worked, she then had signal. I was hoping that did it, but no it now just has signal and constantly loses it and a reboot is needed. This happens on any ROM I use. Any idea(s)? It would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Hi, I'm looking for a solution. I rooted my girlfriend's T-Mobile s2 and changed out the rom for slim 4.2 and it worked well without any signal issues. I am having the same issue and I started a thread about it also with no solutions yet. I flashed newest radio and still can't get any 4.2 Roms to work either, (for not getting signal, ie:radio) you are not alone! I have searched to no end and still have not found any answers. Started from scratch from both touch and non-touch CWM.
it has to be a hardware issue for you @Sargeue because if you went to stock and nothing has fixed your issues has to be the phone, Ive never had any signal issues with my s2 on the latest MC6 ever, so sorry you have having this issue give SAMMY a call if your not under warranty with T-mobile see what they can do for you

I did install the UVMC6 radio to her phone. But it loses signal and I or she always has to reboot it for signal to return. But if I use an older 4.2.2 rom like Slimbean 4.2 it works flawlessly. I don't understand. Maybe the UVMC6 I downloaded was bad?

Hey @blue if you/she like SLIM then flash this https://www.copy.com/s/eQvTcgdXKB0g/Cl3Kener/WICKEDAWESOME/Liquid-JB-v2.9-Linaro-Hercules.zip its updated liquid smooth and then flash the slim gapps you have, you will have the slim look and feel but with RADIO and report back if all else fails i say just stick to the slim you get signal on that's really weird you have issues with the latest radio or for ish and giggles try flashing the radio again a fresh download

i had this problem with slim too. i thought something went wrong with my phone or my area. but nope. what you need to do is go to mikeyman777 cm10.1 thread and find the uvmc6 tar file, then use odin to flash it. apparently just flashing the newest radio with twrp isn't enough because it's missing some files or something like that lol.
anyways i haven't had signal problems since flashing radio tar file. i've lost signal like once. before i was losing it everyday. hope this helps.
