So I've barely had my first android phone for a week and its already slipped out of my hands and into hard concrete. The result is that I have some ugly dents on the silver ring that surrounds the phone. I have the marble white version, Any idea if I can find a replacement for it? Either I'm putting in the wrong search terms or I there are none available on the internet. I'm feeling really bad right about now
I have the same issue,, I hope someone help us :s
I cant help with the bezel but I can HIGH recommend you two buying a case since you have already dropped and dented the phone... Preferably a TPU one that will cover all edges.

pretty sure there aren't any until a Chinese knockoff reseller (cnn.cn or etc) makes one. even at that, you'd have to take apart the phone.

I bought a Case-Mate one,,
------
I found the bezel in ebay:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/OEM-HOUSING...753897?pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item20c7114f69
Not sure if I should get one
Hum, you do realize that's quite a bit of work to change that part, right ? (besides the fact that you void the warranty)
A guy made an almost complete video showing how to disassemble the device. I'm saying almost because at the end he explains the screen is heat sealed with the frame (the one you found on eBay) :
http://youtu.be/eo93EF7rVIw?t=9m27s (timing is included in the link)
You need to un-seal the two parts with heat.
So to resume, changing the bezel is as complex as changing the screen, or even more complex since you can buy screens already sealed with frames (but I suppose you don't want to pay 300$ just for bezel replacement ). Meaning this is surely the most complex piece replacement on the Galaxy S III ...

You mean the ones that dont cover the entire edges?
My point exactly. Thats why I recommend a TPU case.
Also the case will cover the dent and you dont have to worry about it anymore.
No point disassembling the entire phone and probably voiding your warranty for a dent.

Guys, Nonepse is right about how complex of a job changing the bezel (it's actually the phone's frame) is. The same guy did a video on how to take part the frame/bezel that the LCD is stuck on with adhesive. It is NOT a pretty sight.

There goes my dream of using the GS3 without a case and simply replacing the housing whenever I feel like it.
Try CNN.cn they usually have replacement parts

It is the frame, seems like alot of work, and practically impossible to swap out without replacing the screen since they are glued together . Just get a nice case, you won't see much of the damage. I got at least a nick here and there when i dropped my phone when i first got it. Now I got full case and front tempered glass screen protector that hides most if it (besides the little crack still visible, but it doesn't bother me). http://i50.tinypic.com/xpqa03.jpg
+1, a lot of effort/cost to fix it....Just put a bumper case on it at this point.

Got the same thing on my white Metro S3. Was looking into replacing the bezel/ frame until I saw that video. Just not worth it IMO.

Looks like a UAG case in white.
guys the truth is that its imposible to change only the bezel of the phone. why? because its imposible to remove the LCD withou braking it. the bezel is only $30 but if you brake the LCD (AMOLED) Screen its about $300 so just use a case.
when i bought my s3 it was black, and some of my friends drop it and the screen (gorilla cracked), i decided to buy the whole front part of the phone. i decided to change the color so now my S3 is Titanium 100%.

I've had a white and now I have a grey one. On both of them I used some 220 grit sand paper and carefully sanded the cheap silver plastic off revealing a beautiful soft touch black plastic looks especially good on a white phone. I'll put some pictures of you want

Resistive touch screens have to be made of a plastic soft enough that you can flex it to push it down in contact with the lower layer. It's a tradeoff, and another reason people prefer capacitive.

I'm so upset over this... today I had my phone in my pocket with a plastic contact lens case and it puts 4 small yet noticeable scratches on the plastic screen. WTH?!!?!?? Not the kind of quality I would expect out of a phone for this price!
I've left old phones in my pockets with keys before and never got much damage on them, and they were much cheaper phones.

Why you would put a phone so expensive in your pocket with another object with sharp, hard edges without at least a screen protector is beyond me. Besides the fact that the touchscreen is basically an ENTIRE side of the device. My recommendation is to get a screen protector, they can be had for fairly cheap on eBay.
Tell me you at least applied the screen protector included in the box before you tossed it in your pocket?!!

It doesn't matter too much because I have about 5 dead pixels on my screen and vzw is replacing it. Guess I know now that this phone requires ghost armor or something before it scratches from me looking at it too hard.

I've worn contacts for several years, and some cases have sharp ridges that are made of hard plastic that can scratch a screen like the TP2 w/enough pressure. As it stands, you're the one with a scratched up screen that can't piece two and two together...
Alright guys, get back in your corners! haha...
Anyway, the lessons to take away from this are the following
-use a screen protector (it's just sensible to splurge $10 for a piece of plastic that can effectively protect your $500-$600 device)
-if your device will be in contact with other objects (sharp or not), use a case.
-if your device will be in your pocket with no case protecting it, you shouldn't put anything else in your pocket.
In the future you can replace the housing or something so the screen will be like new again. However, the first thing I usually do when purchasing a phone such as this one is put a decent screen protector on it to avoid situations like this. I usually always put it in a phone sock when putting it in my pocket.
Funilly enough it's an ipod sock

Yea ive only ever used it on a psp and ipod screen which is much harder than a resistive touchscreen. Even though it will probably work to some extent if the scratches are minor, it could end up having adverse affects on the screen. Your best bet is probably to ride it out and wait for the price of replacement screens to go down, and then replace it.

It depends on how careful you are with your phone, but I would definitely recommend a case and screen protector to avoid getting scratches, if nothing else.

That depends on how much protection you want and if you mind covering up the back of the phone (it's nicer than most phones so some people rather not).

I never have much issue with screen scratches (usually) but I'd still err on the side of caution and do at the very least a screen protector. I'm going to replace my ZAGG (which I'm hoping is just scratched and not a crack on the screen ) with one of those fancy shmancy glass screen protectors with the rounded edges.

TPU skin is good enough if you have good reflexes.
While it is falling, you'll probably break its fall by hitting it up. Plus you can find absolutely clear TPU skins.
A case is a must, screen protector is not.
What I do is whenever I get a brand new phone, I always start with a good protective case and a screen protector. After a few months, I gradually get thinner cases and usually end up with those 0.3-0.5mm thin cases that makes the phone feel nice and less bulky. If you plan to rock the phone naked, I'd recommend a phone pouch.

Thank you very much for the quick response I'm still searching for a good frame or case, is it true that the origin HTC bi color case leaves scratches on the phone I won't believe it .....?! I also hope that the black version is scratch resistant some people said not......I just talked with a Vodafone assistant to change the black against the silver but he said to me that himself have the black one and I looks quite better and after two month usage without any case he have no scratches. Its not REALLY a must IMO. The phone actually holds up very well. Yesterday i purposefully put the phone in the same pocket with a bunch of coins and it scratched the aluminum but the scratches wiped right off. If you drop things than that would be a different story at aluminum can easily dent :good:
That was my point also ... it looks a little exaggerated to say that a case is a must.
I intend to use the phone "naked" indoors. Any case will practically ruin the nice feeling of the phone itself. Of course, if you drop it then there are chances to ruin the nice finish.
I'm also using the phone outdoors, fr sports. For that purpose I ordered a trident kraken ams ... I hope it will do the job.
P.S.: I saw that a OEM housing is "only" 50 bucks, free shipping ... I guess I'll buy one just in case .
I would say that if you carry your phone in your pocket a case is a must. I generally like to go case-less (especially with a phone this pretty), but after having my One slip out of my pocket on a couple of occasions, I ended up getting a case (Poetic Atmosphere; the rubberized edges keep it from slipping out). If you intend on getting a pouch of some sort, I think case-free is fine.
Also, I don't have a screen protector and have no scratches, though I tend to be pretty gentle with my phones.

On Etradesupply, the OEM housing is only like 30 bucks.
I say a TPU case is a must because:
1) You WILL drop it at some point, it's anodized AL, not grippy plastic.
2) The case provides a lip, so if you put your phone face down, the screen won't touch the surface & scratch from w/e dirt is there.
3) The case will also keep the camera lens (or the anodized back) from touching any surfaces.
4) I wear a ring, and if I don't put a case on, the ring scratches ONTO the phone. That's not good.
If you're REALLY careful, then none of these matter. but it's hard to be perfect.
Besides, when I'm in bed, I can just quickly remove the case for a little bit. It feels nice.
This phone is just too good looking to cover up, IMO. I've been going naked since day one I don't have a single scratch on it. The aluminum housing is solid and whatever glass HTC used really resists scratching. My One X screen got covered in microscratches pretty quickly, but I haven't seen anything on this phone.
Just treat it with care and you can forget the case. CNET tried to destroy their test phone and couldn't do it.
I have a double dip case bought at once with the phone. Well .. the feeling simply does not compare with the case on. It just loos cheap and plastic'ish ... is worse than galaxy S4 actually. So, with all the risks involved I will go "naked" while in normal use and I will use the kraken ams for outdoors. That's all ...
I only like corner protection. I don't care about the back.
I used to have a screen protector on this but I don't like it, it doesn't make the display look as nice. I have since taken it off and have not gotten any scratches, not even micro ones. I think this display is more tough than previous GG2 screens. I had the ONE X+ and it scratched easily.

Hi everyone, I recently got the Xperia Z1 and I love it! I was looking for a good case to protect it, but there are so many that I'm not sure what to buy. Last week the phone accidentally fell to the floor because it was vibrating, luckily the phone is ok, but the front glass cracked and needs to be replaced. So now I'm looking for some good protection.
It would be great to hear your opinions about which protections do you think is best.

Get a tempered glass screen protector. And my friendly tip, tempered glass on front, a film back protector (on the back obviously) and then get a case the covers the WHOLE SIDE OF THE PHONE, INCLUDING the bottom and top parts. trust me. I had a case on and my phone still got a dent near the earphone jack when it fell on a very rough surface from chest height. If you want full protection for the sides and corners, get a case that wraps around the phone. maybe a bumper. The film protector and tempered glass will take care of the front and back.
P.S.
I use a Illumishield screen protector for the back, and a Alibaba Tempered Glass protector on the front (9H Hardness).
thanks for the tips! I'll look for a case and a tempered glass protector
I agree with mahalkosijoy.
Get a tempered glass for the front screen. Protective film for the back is optional. For me, it is much better to get a hard back cover like CapDase. Be mindful on the slot for the camera and flash when buying cases as this can affect your image like flashbleeds on the captured image.
thanks for all the help. I'm having a really bad time with this. I had to buy the replacement for the display+lcd on the web because nobody has it where I live, it was quite expensive. I took the phone to a technician to install it, and the screen seems to be failing, it turns on, all black, and some fine vertical lines. I contacted the seller, but he won't give me a new one, said warranty is void after you try to install it.

Hi all,
Have had my 10 since release day have had it in a case and screen protector since day one, both expensive ones too, tempered and a tech 21, now the tech 21 allowed a little bit of grit to get underneath the case and through pressure from my pocket or handling, the grit has etched a small scratch from the gun metal paint on the back at the top of the phone. I've now got a phantomskinz skin on it so it's covered but I wondered if anyone has ever matched the paint colour and type and attempted to either spray or touch up a mark?
There is no dents, literally just a chip from the paint, really annoyed me, tech 21 have been superb for me in the past.
I also have a friend who has dropped his literally the day he thought he didn't need a case and has a few scratches on the back, it was actually him who suggested painting it, at first I thought no way but thought I'd ask on here just in case anyone has ever committed to trying to paint their phone, htc 10 or not and how did you get along?
I'm sure we're not alone in having the odd scratch or two on our shiney htc 10s.
Any thoughts? Places who may do the job or what the colour or paint type is specifically? Is it treated? With what?,
Cheers [emoji106]

Aye, they'd look a lot better if we could just touch them up when they took a knock.
You could theoretically paint these all-metal phones pretty easily. You would, however, need to completely disassemble the phone to get just the back shell (in this case specifically) so that you could begin prep work on it for paint/powder coating.
You would first use a high grit sanding on it to rough the surface up for adhesion. Then you either:
a)apply paint
b)begin process of powder coat
Too much effort, in all honesty, for this device though. I've watched a fair number of tear down videos, and the 10 looks to be as bad, if not worse, than the M8/M9 to take apart. I have to replace my screen on my M8, to keep it for my new burner device, so I may take it entirely apart and paint it electric blue by hand. Either that, or do a high polish on it, and get it shiny.

I wouldn't take the device apart to be honest. I think if the paint was matched a small brush could cover the scratches.

That's what I mean, it's the tiny blemishes that are the easiest to cover up but still annoying, if you get a scratch on your car you can get it resprayed or touched up same with paint on walls at home or pretty much anything I'm surprised that a service like this doesn't already exist.

The OP mentioned using one already. Skins are basically stickers that'll fade and peel over time and the corners will start to lift in cases where you don't apply perfectly, like a screen protector.
To the OP, may sound silly but some car paint shops have machines that match a materials color down to the H/S/V and can supply touchup paint. Have you looked into that?

Have been quite busy these last few days but will be actively looking into it next week and may even price up some paint if I can match up the colour and type, I have a friend who does custom jobs (cars) so he may know more. Will let you guys know if I find anything worth mentioning.

I have a phantom skinz skin, which is solid and really stuck on there, looks great but defeats the object when you know there are blemishes or scratches underneath, if you were to resell the phone, a few scratches could really impact the price.
[Okay! I just got my cover (1 day before it was supposed to arrive LOL just like it happened with my V20). Anyway. This is my review:
First of all, here is the link to purchase the cover (maybe cheaper in other websites, maybe not):
http://www.ebay.com/itm/26267917850...49&var=561595568110&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT
Now, lets proceed by telling you what was included:
1x Heavy duty cover (dual layers, 3 pcs); 1x Premium Tempered Glass; 1x Dust absorbant cloth; 1x Cleaning wipe
Finally, Lets get to the review! The good and the bad:
The good: I like the cover. So far i dropped the phone from 3 feets and nothing happened to it. The cover meets Military Grade 810.1-G Compliancy. The first layer feels like a fat layer of clear TPU but it doesnt feel bad at all. The outer layers are made of Polycarbonate to absorb the falls. The TPU layer is enough to absorb the impact but the 2 layers of polycarbonate have 2 purposes to protect, but also to make the phone adjust firmly in the cover. The audio jack and the type c usb port both have dustproof covers so that it doesnt penetrate any dust particles. easily to open and close. With this cover you will be able to use every functionality. Including IR Blaster, and every mic has its big enough hole to let the voice sound as clear as possible. cover doesnt feel bulky, to put it inside your pocket with or without cover, you wouldnt notice the difference (see the picture of the rule and measure your phone with one). it is very light too. Now, the screen protector, im sure it was premium, but i messed up putting it (STUPID DUST PARTICLES FLOATING EVERYWHERE), so now i have to buy a new screen protector lol.
The bad: 1) Your fingerprints will stay on the TPU layer (light fingerprints) but they still there. So,,, if you are into security and no trusting anyone and thinking about someone will do conspiracy against you and will use your fingerprint to unlock the phone, well,,,, it is not for you, unless you paint it with an spray ; 2) possibly another bad side: if you are no accustomed to the volume buttons on the side of the device and have to constantly looking for where exactly to press, then this is not a cover for you, since the buttons totally disappear with it. On the other hand, they are easily to press if you are accustomed to the volume buttons on the side; 3) The cover might slip if the material of the surface were you put it is made of Anodized aluminum or any other material that has been processed or polished.
Funny Fact: Seems that they created the cover missing some information about the phone's physic, since they added a button in the right low side of the cover which has no purpose there LOL!
I havent had any scratch so far (from the fall) yet.
If there is any question, please let me know, and i will try to answer. Or any other comments.
Cheers!
@aknotts415 >> here is what i think about the cover. Pictures are on the first post too
haha..thanks...i was just about to post here and ask if anyone has any thoughts on this case...i'm stuck between this zizo and the poetic...
i dont want to take any chances...I had a Note 7..then replaced it with a recalled version...had a nice spigen tough armor case on it but no screen protector...I accidentally dropped it at work and managed to somehow scratch the screen lightly..i guess it doesnt matter since i'll be replacing it with my LG V20 arriving tomorrow...:good:
**oh, could you post some more pics with the case on...maybe during the daytime with more lighting...so how was the tempered glass protector??? was it actually pretty thick, and any advice on getting it on perfectly???

When i come from college today at 11 am i will posting more pictures from every angle.. Now, about the tempered glass, it is very thick. if it werent for the dust particles in my living room, i would have put it perfectly, Something that i like is that when you put the screen protector, and the put the cover, there is no way any dust will go inside, at least from the front part, since the polycarbonate layer presses the tempered glass, hard enough to no let any dust go inside. So, neither from the front nor the audiojack nor the type c port, you will get dust. I just bought 2 tempere glasses on ebay ahhahahah.
Few advices to put it perfectly: go to a place inside your house where there is the least amount of dust (no air conditioner, no windows, and no fans rotating), clean your hands with alcohol, and let it dry. then start from the hardest part, The top, as soon as you align the top and the edges on the top, it wil become easier. Now, i noticed that many of the screen protectors, such as this one:
https://www.amazon.com/Mr-Shield-Te...ywords=lg+v20+tempered+glass+screen+protector
Are not been built correctly. As you can see on the reviews, you will see people talking about the tempered glass not properly adjusting to the edges, And to be honest, i dont know if this tempered glass i used but put wrong had the same issue since i see the edges not properly adjusted . maybe because i removed it 2 times and put it back on, or maybe is the built quality. Anyway, im going to wait for the other tempered glasses. and see if those have the same issue.
i bought this one:

It doesnt feel bad, it could be better though if it were aluminum probably. But i figure that the polycarbonate absorbs impact better than metal. Also, please revisit the the first post of the thread, i made some changes into my review you might want to read.

Does the case block off the 2nd screen? From the official site pics, it seems like it.

it doesnt look like it does..if you look at pics 8...shows a good gap between the regular battery/time info and the top portion of the case...

Nope. It doesnt. it leaves even an extra small space after the 2nd screen just to make sure that every touch does work. Also it leaves a small space after every edge for the same reasons. :good:

Ah, I gotcha. Wonder why the pics from their official site and ebay show the front panel like it covers the whole second screen for some of the case colors.

Oh! you are right hahahah. I didn't notice that until i went to the same link on ebay now. The black one shows the 2nd screen, but the others show it as covered . hahaha Probably for the same reason they added something extra to the case that it didnt need to be there as you might have noticed in the picture #8 of the first post i uploaded. But just to play safe, if you will bu y the cover, ask them first.
So my charging flap is already not staying put. I only charged it once and the flap is already loose .

i went ahead and ordered one as well...also ordered this for when im in the house and dont need the full protection...
I ordered the green one. Too cheap to pay for expedited shipping so not sure how quickly it will be here.
My v20 will be here tomorrow and my cheap case from Amazon prime will also be here tomorrow!

Yeah at first i thought the same about mine. But then after a minute or 2 it came back to normal and iI t stayed put covering pretty well. Did you try after a short period of time?
Well , for the time being, i did a little adjustment to mine lol and it worked. I put a very very very thin layer of superglue on the edge of the port-cover and waited for it to dry, now the superglue is part of the case, but now the dustcover protector stays there the second i want it to stay there. Although it is not necessary because as i said before, it will come back to normal after about 1 minute or 2 minutes.
On the other hand, I just dont want to return the cover and have my phone naked for another week LOL . And also, i kind of like how thin it is yet very protective. and the seller gave me $5 dollars back because seems like the "premium screen protector" is one of those that wont stick to the edges correctly, althoguht it might have been my fault since i removed it 3 times and put it back on.

Hey i have a question. when you open the cover to plug the usb charger, does it remains open? or is it like mine that after a few minutes it does closes okay?
