[Q] Once bitten twice shy - should I get the S3? - HTC One X

HTC One X owner from India..big fan of HTC products..until now.
After several weeks of careful deliberation I decided to buy the infamous HTC One X, brushing aside the wide variety of build defects being reported all over the internet.
The first time around I discovered the damned WiFi issue and immediately got a DOA certificate from HTC. Got my replacement HOX this Saturday, a brand new piece, and foolishly enough I didn't check the phone at the store. I also had the option of buying an S3 but decided to settle with a HOX (because of my loyalty to HTC)
Later I realized that the display has a big yellow spot on the top and a glaring black spot (both clearly visible on a white background) right in the center of the screen. Rushed back to the store and got another DOA certificate.
My dilemma is - should I trust HTC the third time around? I really want to, despite the nightmare I have faced, but is it worth it? Should I just get the freaking S3?

You should stick with HOX in my opinion you were just extremely unlucky on the first two, if you're used to HTC phones you are going to miss a lot of features and sense if you go for the S3.

Lol had the same dilemma after my first HOX had the screen flex issue.
But samsung service sucks here so i decided to give HOX another go, Fortunately for me the replacement seems perfect with only the rattle sound being an issue/, But i heard its quite normal in all smartphones so i am happy now
get another HOX you wont regret it.

It's a no brainer.. the S3 sucks....

hmmm
i just love sense too much... i'd try again.
i'm an htc-addict.
but: you have to make this choice, we can't help you. why don't you try a S3 in store and see if you like it?

go into the store and get a third one..and before you do read this thread so you know what to look out for so you get the perfect one

Thanks guys..well the unanimous opinion here seems to be in favor of the HoX. I am quite keen to give HTC one more shot so I've decided to wait till a new batch comes in (the one that gave me trouble was the SH24LW). I have also written to HTC Asia customer grievances. Let's see what they have to say about it.
The funny thing is when I went to the service center today I met 4 people there with issues ranging from WiFi to overheating and display problems. I spoke to these folks and they were all intermediate to advanced users. What I really feel enraged about is the fact that an average or novice user who buys this device is never going to notice all these issue and end up owning a substandard product that's going to give him problem in the longer run.
Its not everyday you buy such an expensive device and the least you would expect is to get some promise of quality from a global giant like HTC.

You see the problem here is that you have to buy the device first before you can break the seal and have a look inside.. and once you do that you inadvertently end up buying the device.. which means if theres a defect you go to the service center, which is about 10 miles from the store, and get a DOA certificate.. then come back all the way round and replace the phone. My cost of ownership of this phone has already surpassed the original price by 50$. Not to mention the 2 days of productivity lost at work!

I did try the S3 the first time I went to buy the HoX and I didnt like it one bit. It crossed my mind when I went back to the store to get my first replacement and I had a look at the S3 for a good 20 minutes before walking out with another HoX. Now I have another chance so I just wanted everyone's opinion here.
Thanks!

do you not have the seven day return policy? so say if you are not happy with the handset you got that 7 day window to return it?
that is what we have over here in the UK and makes life a lot easier specially for those who can not make their mind up.
anyways you can still use the guide and ask these questions at the store were you purchase the phone and that way you can have a peace of mind about it if the employees are helpful that is and answer your questions

Unfortunately, we enjoy no such privilege here. The store just retails the product and if you face a problem you have to approach the manufacturer directly.
As for asking questions at the store - here's an interesting story for you. When I informed the salesman about the overheating problem he asked me to use headphones instead
Then I showed him the display issue and he asked me not to open apps with a white background. At the HTC service center I overheard the engineer tell a customer that he cant use headphones other than the ones bundled with the phone otherwise the phone's warranty will be voided. I gave him such a look that he mellowed down and gave up on that logic.

no probs...hope you go for the one x mate as this phone is a beauty...once you get a perfect one which after a few months now the QC should be better you will just be amazed by the screen

This is India dude..I wouldn't be surprised if the engineers at the service center are unaware of even the screen resolution of one x..happened with me at Samsung's service center..guy told me that s2 n Note have exactly the same resolution..so don't rely on their judgement..just check that the phone is from the latest lot ie either HT25 or 26 or SH series..I would recommend that u go with HT series which stands for manufactured in Taiwan..mine is a real early Taiwan build of March and its flawless in every department..

Both phones were SH24. Didn't find a single SH25/26 here (Bombay) let along a HT.

Me too using ht version and I am from India . Just go for one more hox . You will get a good one. My prayers for you.
Gs3 sucks , I had given a try. Even if you buy s3 you will sell it . Even faulty hox is better than the proper s3.
You will get good one.

My first android phone I have been lucky the only thing I can find wrong with mine is that it makes a hissing noise when recording in 1080p I just turn off stereo and records fine no hiss. If I was in your shoes 2 faulty devices I would diff go for the sgs3 that many f ups is unexceptable

This is a One x forum, of course the unanimous opinion is going to be in favor of the One X. I always tell people who ask which one they should pick that they should base their choice on what they prefer in their phone. Both are the best on the market right now but depends if you like slcd screens or AMOLED technology, if you need a lot of storage, if you're attracted to the beautiful body of the phone, sense or touchwiz, battery life ect... You search what you want in your phone and pick which one to go with.

I do agree on this, lots of users had/ have issues with the one x, I happen to be one of the lucky people without any issues whatsoever and its been great. But again both phones are great so just make sure you know what you're looking for in a phone OP.

[Q] Dilemma over HOX issues

Dear members,
I would like to know the truth behind the issues faced by the HTC one X, which I read in many websites across the internet(and few here).I'm expecting a truthful reply from current users.
I was decided to get one for me untill last week, but the issues what I read for one X confused me.The issues that I came across was;
over heating(guess its obvious for smart phones)
Wi-fi issues(death grip issue)
screen/display flickering,
yellow spots on display,
Frequent black screens,
Restart troubles,
Music player issues(when music player stops when gallery is used)
Taiwan made phone's facing issues over Chineese made ones.
I would really appreciate if someone could give me their honest review of Htc One X and
help me decide whether to buy it or not.
Kindly address these issues ASAP, as I had already made up my mind to go for HOX, so that I can buy one with relaxed mind...
I cant think of any other smartphones as of now.
Looking forward to your responses and future phone
debates on this forum.
Thanks in advance

My first HOX was returned because of the screen flicking issue. Replacement is totally perfect and not had any issues with it at all. The phone gets hot after about 10 mins of continuous use but that is expected.
On the other hand my Dad just received he's One X and that has the Screen Flex issue on the left hand side. I didn't mention it to him as to be honest he prob wont notice but it just goes to show that recent batches still have this issue.
Overall Im really pleased with the phone and if you are unlucky enough to receive a faulty one then you usually have 28 days from the day you receive it to get a replacement sent. After that it's a trip to the HTC Repair center.
The only problems I have had are overheating (all the time, but I don't mind as the phone is powerful and I expect it to get warm) and the yellow marks on the screen, but they went away after a day and I haven't seen them at all (not even the tiniest bit)..

Yeah my first HOX was dysfunctional too (camera issues, a big 'stripe' when opening the camera app), so I went back to the shop to switch my phone for a new one. So far so good, no problems with my 2nd HOX.
I'm in your same situation I want to buy the one x but all this issues scare me, I think I'm gonna wait for at least two months and then get it, hoping to get a new batch, i cannot exchange it since I would be importing from amazon

yes but the above link doesnot show how to find the wifi problem before buying it. the hardware issue. any way to detect that. also what if the phone has a default battery. i cant ask the retailer to lend me the phone for a week to test. this doesnt happen in my country man. i am also afraid to to buy the HOX. today i held both HOX and S3 in my hand. and HOX looked so damn fuking good. but still very afraid to buy one.

you do not need to take the phone away to test it. you can test it there by switching it on and playing with it for a few minutes and check for any screen issues ie(flickering) or regarding the wifi you should not have any problems. is this job you buying it from are they are a well known shop were you can trust them to take it back if anything gets wrong with it?
just try and connect to a wifi connection in the store and ask the retailer if it is ok to see if that is working..
actually even better tell the retailer your fears about the One X and ask him if there has been any issues with it and he would be probably the best person to answer all your questions..
if you are still worrying about wifi though there are a few threads here in the general section which you can read upon..but i will tell you this i never had any issues with regarding wifi

Check out my thread here.. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1721727
My advice is that if you really prefer the One X over the S3 (which I guess would be your other choice) wait a month or so for these issues to be addressed. HTC is getting a lot of bad press because of these issues and sooner or later the company has to deal with them.
I did a Google search today for S3 build quality defects and surprisingly there were just one off cases..nothing as major as the WiFi death grip issues, the screen flex issue, the overheating or the yellow spot issue! Thats way too many defects for any device. If you are going to be investing a good 36k wait back and let it pass.

As you said, I think its better to wait for 1 more month, till HTC sort out these glitches.
I've not tried S3 on hand till now, so I dont know how it is....my default option was HTC one X and I was eagerly waiting for its launch. But these issues really let me down...its like taking a huge risk as of now..so lemme wait and get it...sometimes anticipation is sweet when you are sure of outcome(Hope HTC rectify the issues)

Hey buddy,
here in India the story is entirely different.the retailer will have a display piece in their showroom, and the customer is allowed to use that alone for verification.
And once the customer buys the new one, and if he finds issues out if the box, the retailer wont take any responsiblities.
They will ask us to go to HTC service center, which will be miles away. The retailers really sucks in this matter here, and for the customer, its like trial and error.....

Try the S3 in the meanwhile..spend some time with it. S3 put me off primarily because of the looks.. Other things apart, One X is a more premium looking phone and for me this is a very important factor. Keep visiting your nearest retailer and see if the SH25 or HT25 series has arrived. This batch seems to be the best of the lot .. Holding back a month or so will really pay off in the end.

I have One X and I'm really happy with this beast ! No Problem at all
Very Fast, Huge Screen with unbelievable quality (Tegra 3 games are soo perfect), before i Had GS2 Note iPhone4 GS1, Evo3D etc... but this phone is simply amazing...
I had Overheat with some games on GS2 too... so i don't think this is an hardware issue (my opinion), Music quality is brilliant, camera is very very fast and many opportunities (HDR, Panorama, Slow motion record etc).
The only thing that i would say this phone is poor, is battery, it's not too bad, not too good ... In future we will have customs Kernels so i don't mind...
Hope I helped you

I've been waiting for 3 weeks now, impatiance is growing inside me, but i guess its wise to wait n watch for another 1 month..:-(
Do you any info, wheather HTC have responded officially regarding these glitches...will they cover all issues through the updates alone or any fresh batches of HOX can be expected?
Also, is it possible to know the batch name/code, from the box itself(without opening the box), if yesm kindly let me know how...

I am sure HTC is looking into these issues very seriously. They are getting a lot of bad press. When I went to the service center yesterday, I met 4 people who had different problems related to WiFi, over heating, display etc.
There is a way to identify the batch. There is a white label on the box that states the device's IMEI number and serial number (S/N). Look out for the serial number.. if it starts with a "SH25" or "HT25"..you should be good to go!

That info abt S/N was really helpful.
I talked with a retailer over here, and they informed me they are having SH25 black model in stock currently.I guess the SH25 is Chineese model...
lemme go there, once again have the demo piece in my model, gotta check all the things acco to the thread which showed "how to check HOX while buying"...
BTW what du think about SH25...??
I think the recent batches of the One X have relatively lesser to no issues. The death grip will be resolved in the future batches and so the ones now in the Market will most probably have it.
Other than that, the heat is obvious, but you can't play games while charging as the battery gets over heated. Also the screen flickering issues and all other issues have been resolved in the new test build 2.05 and that will be coming to us with some more improvements as well pretty soon. So most of the issues are resolved as well... I think you can go for it... You will not regret it.....
One issue is that you will face is the battery backup is not as good as the S3 but you can get through easily one day with moderate use.
Moderate Use: 3G data on full time, Auto Sync ON, FB whatsapp chatting youtube and so on for 1 hour(3G usage), calls for 1 hour, music for 2 hours.
I feel this is the best device on the market despite what the S3 lovers say... She is a beauty....
Update: I have not checked for the deathgrip issue as 90 percent of the time my phone is on 3G and I have little screen brightness adjustment bug visible when the brightness is really low.. But otherwise no issues what so ever.... I am having the HT24 model and no issues other than the deathgrip.

Update: I have not checked for the deathgrip issue as 90 percent of the time my phone is on 3G and I have little screen brightness adjustment bug visible when the brightness is really low.. But otherwise no issues what so ever.... I am having the HT24 model and no issues other than the deathgrip.

I'll checking out once again the demo model from the retailer in coming days, i'll keep you guys posted what I obvserved....

SH25 should be good... i think you can go ahead and buy it.. just dont root it and use it as much as possible for a good 7 days... just in case you face any issues declare the phone DOA by going to your nearest HTC service center within 7-14 days of purchase (earlier the better).. then you can get a replacement from the store that you brought the phone from.. alternatively just ask for a credit note from the store and wait out a month for the storm to pass
Although its very unlikely that you will face any issues with the SH25 model..Good luck!

Finally got my one X back from HTC. Fixed but service was terrible.

I was one of the unfortunate guys to develop the wifi issue, did the test where I pushed gently on the top right of the screen to confirm it was indeed hardware related so off it went to HTC. The last time HTC repaired a device for me was my DHD and I couldn't fault the service in one area, the phone was picked up next day and then repaired almost instantly and delivered back to me a couple of days after pickup. The experience I had getting my One X repaired was a different story altogether, It took 2 and a half weeks from beginning to end just to repair a simple fault, had they actually had some decent answers for me when I queried it I wouldn't have minded but all I got was "Hmmm it seems to be taking far longer than usual for your repair" thank you captain obvious, "we will investigate and get back to you today with an update", got fobbed off with that line 3 times.
Finally when waiting for a response from them the UPS guy appeared with my phone, glad to say the phone is now picking up wifi no problem and I'm pleased that its fixed but being without my smart phone for so long was crippling. The fact the phone has a hardware fault right off the bat and then HTC were so poor with their efforts to fix it in a decent time frame has soured my view on them, may be venturing elsewhere for my next phone.
Their customer service went out the window when the incredible S was released I had a horrible time with my desire z getting repaired.

Timeline:
June 2 - Massive Wi-Fi hardware fault thread started
June 18 - HTC acknowledges the problem
July 4 - The UK carrier 3 discloses what the fix entails meaning they've received communication from HTC
So from when the problem was first reported to the time a fix was filtered down to field service centers was about a month. Once the problem was identified HTC had to design and manufacture parts, develop procedures for field support people to apply the fix, and get both out to repair centers all over the world. That's pretty reasonable speed for a multi-billion dollar corporation. During that period, and before the fix was announced, many people sent their phones to HTC for repair multiple times getting it back with the problem unresolved. An expected outcome. Personally, if my phone was affected, I'd have waited until the fix was announced and probably a bit after to ensure all the parts and procedures were in place before sending my phone in. From reading people’s experiences with HTC’s UK service centers there’s clearly some issues. But those issues are separate from the timeliness of the specific repair for the Wi-Fi problem.

I'm not talking about this thread alone. Also their competitors have much faster turn around times e.g. samsung with the s3 which has shipped over 6.5 million units of a single mobile phone.

Hamdir's a big boy and doesn't need anyone to speak for him. Speaking for myself, I defend HTC on the forum where it's warranted. Many of the gripes and complaints are petty and could easily apply to any mobile device manufacturer. It's a public forum and people with issues should voice them. But the repetitive posts and pile-ons over some of the less significant issues would lead people looking to buy a One X that it's a piece of garbage. It's not. HTC rushed the One X to market, I'm guessing to beat Samsung and the SGS3, and it had more s/w and QC issues than it should have. Any reasonable person reading this forum could draw that conclusion. But the amount of threads and posts dedicated to repeating the same problems, issues, and experiences ad nauseam is unwarranted, doesn’t represent the majority of user’s experiences, and is a violation of XDA's forum rules. I've been on XDA since 2009 and this forum is the most emotional and overwrought of any I've participated in. And I’m not a HTC “fanboy.” My previous phone was a i9100 I had for eleven months and I own a UK G-Tab 10.1 which I think is great. The One X is my first HTC phone since the WinMo HD2.
Edit. Never mind

A manufacturer can still make a brilliant product and suck at every other part of it's operations.
Lenovo make some of the most well-built laptops but their after-sales is quite simply chronically poor.
My opinion on HTC is that they make good phones if you're prepared to hand over the dough but after that, they're generally lousy with major Android updates outside their latest and greatest (for example). Also heard bad things about HTC's repair service so this thread comes at no surprise.
Also, it's anything but bad that HTC is being criticized. It makes it public that they need to improve.
I need to send mine off for repair as the screen is coming away from the case, but with stories like this it puts me off.
I need to get it sent in at some point though!

Where at any point in my two replies did I state they suck? I am a big boy too so my reasons for purchasing my phone do not concern you. Secondly I have had good experiences with htc and I read several reviews (some from xda) praising this phone to no end. As you mentioned this phone was rushed to market and has several flaws, if htc really cared about the customer and wanted to provide a good user experience they would have waited until it was ready to release it. I don't see your problems with the threads being created, in my opinion they are a good thing to inform anyone considering the phone of the amount of issues it is facing, it is like you are trying to sweep it under the carpet. I am not a fanboy either I have owned a device running pretty much every os on the market right now but this is one of the worst quality control problems I have seen.
Mine came back from its second repair yesterday for a dead pixel and missing front camera lens. For the THIRD time I have a dead pixel. That's three screens with dead/stuck pixels in a row. Either I'm unlucky or these screens are prone to it. To top it off, they replaced the body of my phone with a white one with scratches on the camera lens. The serial number matches so I can only imagine they've mixed ny case up with someone else's. Lucky for them really as my case was in perfect condition.
I will add one thing to my original post, I have unlocked ny bootloader so am glad they still repaired it for me

My 10th replacement phone.

Ok,
I just to share my pain with you guys. I keep reading you guys on the HOX update thread. I reckon by the time I get a phone without fault, it'll come with Jellybean straight out of the box.
I'm with Carphone Warehouse.
They are brilliant at arranging a swap. But, not so good at sending me a working phone it seems. I'll spare you the details about the issues, but they have all been genuine.
Spoke to a manager today, who said to send the phone to their office, and they will have a look at it. And they will inspect my replacement before they send it out.
However, I'm on the second month of my new contract now, and it's basically 2 months without the phone I ordered. I don't see the point in kicking off over the phone, as most of the time, they don't really have the authority to do much. Plus, it's no good for the blood pressure if you end up arguing with a jerk.
Far better to take your time and write a letter to head office, spelling out all the issues, the timeline and what you want as a resolution. And then sleep on it. Edit it, and sleep on it again before sending it.
If you were me, what would you ask them for? (apart from a working phone, but hopefully that is in the bag if they truly are going to inspect it)
I don't mind stupid comments as long as you give a sensible one as well. I could do with some light relief.
If you were me, what would you ask them for?
a galaxy s3 and be done with it, flawless first time
oh and it being a better phone will be a bonus to
it took me 3 one x's to get a decent one, gave that to the missus and got a gs3, its a much better phone

If you just want a phone ask if you can swap for a gs3(I had this option and didn't go for it because I don't find the gs3 better than the one x). If you still want a one x, let then let you pick it up in-store, maybe let you into the store room and puck the box personally. Even say if you can get the one x+ for free when it comes out

Yes, they did offer me the SG3.
I don't like the screen. Nor the dialler. Or the design.
As for why I different ask for a different phone.
Kind of like those situations where you're waiting for a bus. And you've been waiting that long, you could have walked, but didn't, because you knew the next one would be here in a minute.
I've spoken to them, and if they don't send me out a working phone, without flaws, then I will be getting an SG3.
(but then, whose to say I won't have the same issues with the SG3!! I might just be one of those really unlucky SOB's...)
I mean, given probability, you would have thought that by the 8th one, I would have got a working one.
What I don't want to do, is end up over on the SG3 forum, with the same title, except it saying
My 10th replacement SG3.
And 4 months into my contract.
Yes, you're right. Definitely the 2 months line rental.
You have my sympathy, it took me 4 replacements on the 3 network to get a usable phone and I thought I had it bad, you're doing well not to lose it, sounds like Carphone Warehoue are being decent at least with swapping them out each time rather than a repair.
Then again, with 3 i'm still on 1.28 with bugs galore so it's still not 100%. I would definitely be asking for the 2 months back as you haven't had the benefit of the service you're paying for. I really would have thought HTC would have these problems sorted by now, I'm very surprised.
I would probably at this point even ask for a refund, hold out a month or two and maybe either try again or opt for another phone if something else you fancied came along.
If they are going to check out the new replacement first, maybe give them this chance and then consider your options. Good luck!
@Op,
10 new replacements in 2 months does make me think your story is crap, that's how I see it.

I'd have gone through two. Maybe three. But ten? Unless there was a bad run and CPW got all of them the odds of getting that many defective devices in a row are astronomical. Early in the launch when the One X was at its worst the "perfect vs. non-perfect poll" showed 70% declared perfect by their owners. Out of ten that's seven that were fault free. OP, you seem to have bad karma with the One X. I'd suggest not tempting the gods any longer and finding a substitute.
I also say total crap,
Carphone warehouse wouldn't even replace it 10 times, they would have offered a different phone or scrapped the contract long before now.
I've had one HOX, (release day 5th april)
The one I'm using now is the same phone, it's faultless.
Oh, and I got it from Carphone Warehouse.

So true :good:
Op hasn't mentioned what the "fault or flaw" is that he has experienced. Utter Bull crap if you ask me.
I feel so sorry for htc...because of these people that send their phones back for a creaking screen or flashing lcd's bla bla bla. It is breaking htc to the point of needing a bail-out from the Taiwanese Banks!
I've owned my One X since May and experienced all of the bugs that have been discussed in these forums but I never gave up on her, she's been wonderful to me. Luckily I don't have any hardware defects and accept that she is what she is a hot & sexy and occasionally sometimes difficult to be with. But I love my One X to the end.
Sorry for the rant but really come on 10 returns?? Why didn't you switch service providers after the 3rd return? And next time tell us what flaw's you were experiencing other wise we'll just think you're talking utter crap...end
Well I have just received my fifth replacement (First four because of GPS issues), and this one I found, to my dismay, has a faulty touch screen. I.e. the top third of the screen doesn't register any touch, and I can't drag notification bar down, or search for apps in Play Store etc etc.
This one was FROM HTC.... ugh
Wow 10 replacements does sound bad indeed. Maybe you are just to picky, or they keep sending you the same phone
i got mine since it came out. The only problem with it is the creacking on the left side. It does seem annoying sometimes but not enough to start bugging htc or complain about sh*t quality. I love my phone as it is. Theres nothing perfect in this world

Yea mine also seems to have that issue and the light leak at the bottom on a black screen, but it's not enough for me to send it back. I only had one issue with the phone after I got it and that was a faulty SIM card, but my Service provider, MTN Just swapped it the next day. I love my phone and am running JB ROM now. it makes all the difference. 10 swaps seems like a picky user or you must have been a terrible person in your previous life.

Well just so you know HTC/retailers/carriers dont just keep the returned phones. They resell them to other customers in different manners depending on how honest the party is. HTC is having financial problems because people just dont buy their phones to begin with. I just started working at a phone store and the people there push the SGS3 like crazy and customers just ask about IP4S )
And just because you like the ideal design/ concept/ the brand doesnt make the messy production acceptable. Idk about other major Android phone releases, but I've seen so many people who had to swap A COUPLE OF times just to get a decent one. That was a bit shocking. And I've seen people who claimed to have a perfect handset in the beginning now have issues with the wifi-antenna. SO just a reminder for those of you HTC police, before chastising the disgruntled customers, think about karma. Your perfect phones may be the next one in the line to be sent back to customer service and I'll be eagerly waiting for the story about your experience with HTC repair, especially those you that live in the UK.
PS: Just to say preemptively that Im not a Samsung/ Apple/ Sony fan boy. HTC is still my most favourite Android manufacturer but that doesnt mean I need to suck up to their horrendous quality control.

My personal experience with htc thus far has been exceptional and the three gorgeous phone's I've owned from them in the last 5-6 years have been a Hero, Desire and One X and yes a have found bugs but I was patient enough and now I still have these perfect working phone's now.
I only hope that htc pull's through these hard times and comes out stronger because I will be buying my next phone from htc in the next 18 months.

Has any one dealt with htc before.
Small scratch in the outer shell? I sent my phone which was in pretty bad shape, cuz I had the WIFI and no-focus camera issues and they gave me a new one...so fight your claim.

I am so dissatisfied about HTC Care, and I consider them the worst one to deal with (In a way, where they try to run away from their responsibilities as a way of cutting-costs!).
Let's just start saying, I gave them my phone + a technical paper which describes all the problem I am suffering from my phone, in addition to that I wrote my phone number ,and asked them if something isn't clear let them call me.
So, after waiting 5 days and no body called me, I assumed everything went fine, and decided to call them for checking. So, according to them, they didn't discover any fault about my phone! They couldn't see the visible yellow spot on my screen, and neither they find a problem in my flickering GPS ,and the other problems I told them about.
I called them for reinspecting my phone, and after spending more than 1 hour with them, they told me nothing to fix, and I will get my phone on Saturday.
Yet, I didn't receive my phone as they promised... You can only imagine of how happy I am about my first phone with HTC. :\

Thanks for your suggestion, one of my family members is a lawyer, and my (upcoming) brother in law is studying to be a lawyer as well.
I just find it frustrating to deal with HTC Care, (they are the one who needs customers ,and nothing special to make me stick with them for my next phone). Let be honest, HTC need to build a good reputation among their users ,and currently not only they are failing to do so, they forcing their customers to run away from them.
I got couple of ideas to do with my phone (I'l be listing them, in case someone get use of them), and screw HTC care.
1- Replacing my battery with One X+, this will greatly reduce my battery temperature and will prevent my screen from showing the yellow spot.
2- I'll pull up the antenna pins to get a better GPS,Wifi, and better 3G/2G Signal (thanks to gabrielvl for his creative way of fixing these issues).
3- Cleaning earpiece for better sound/clarity.
Ill be happy if they fixed my phone but im skeptical of sending it in for the second time .fighting with htc is like fighting a locked door with a dead bolt.what will tier 2 do for me except tell me I have to pay atleast I have my note 2 as a backup until then.i wanna file a class action lawsuit against htc but I don't know where to begin.

And what do you hope to achieve by doing so? You won't get any compensation worth worrying about, all you'll do is make some lawyers rich.
I wouldn't be seeking legal advice from a phone forum.
You know what? I think you just want to have a whine that you didn't get your way. Best to seek sympathy from your mum or girlfriend, not a phone forum on the internet and not the courts.

samsung wishes it was an iphone
My HTC is a good phone but HTC need to relook at their customer service.
One wonders if the powers that be are aware of what happens further down the line.

Go for it.
So here's my update got my phone back unrepaired and after I did a htc survey and give them Bad review .few hours after that they called me and apologise and ask me to ship it back to get it fixed free.so they must have a heart somewhere.
That's what I was talking about. Good for you.
As a tip for future reference, not that I'm wishing that will be the case, try to keep in touch with the same representative. It helps... A LOT.
That's what I did and now I own a HOX+ network unlocked, absolutely free of charge due to the incompetence of the repair shop...
Really nice to hear that they still offer the support we used to know and expect from HTC.
Best regards.

Three replacements and four phones in thirty days. . .

So the first phone was new and had crackling speakers. Second phone that was sent to me was refurbished and had a smudge underneath the screen so it wasn't cleanable unless I opened the hw. Third refurbished phone had a glass gap between the screen and the base of the phone, so there was bleeding light coming from the back of the phone. Now T-Mobile is sending me a fourth refurbished (most likely) phone.
All the replacements seen to be refurbished.
Imagine. . .I played for S-Off each time and a screen protector each time. That's around $140 ($25x4 + $10x4) USD just on replacement bs.
Anyone else having these issues?
I unrooted, restored stock ota, re locked, and re s-oned the first two devices (fourth device is coming 6/1/15) to restore original (warranty) status despite all these issues being hardware related. Keep in mind I'm no newb to phones.

If you are not new to the phone section, you would not pay for s-off everytime before you check the phone for defects or whatever. So you could save a lot of money,
if you check your device with Pixel test and eyes before you set it s-off
Other then that, i do not have any problems with the phone. Its a huge improvment from m7 build quality to m9.

I already checked for defects. However it was only noticeable during the night. As for the smudge, it can be taken off with a microfiber, however once the oil of the skin touches the screen it comes back. All of these were freak incidents.
Pixel test has nothing to do with my problems with the phones as I have no dead pixels.
Like I said, definitely very aware of my phone and its uses. I've had every phone out there and do numbers of different ports for audio. So its not like this is my first rodeo.

nope i saw tons of M9 go and come back with no issues, except clicky speakers and the company in here is not covering that, even some iPhone units suffers from something similar
state your country please

T-Mobile is very generous as they credited me $60 at no hassle or haggling. They've sent me several replacements with no hassle. However they said if the third replacement they send me is defected, they'll allow me to choose a swap of the M9 for another phone. . .which is not what I want because I like this phone.

Sorry to hear that you're having issues getting a unit without defect. I ordered my developer edition phone a few days after it was available and it showed up in perfect condition. I had read about issues regarding gaps at the screen and body, and a "clicky" area at one of the screen boundaries, however my phone was free of all of those. My old M7 had one pixel that would only display in white, but I kept it and was very happy with it.
Bottom line - I hope you get an M9 that you are happy with, because this phone is awesome. As hamdir notes in the sticky thread at the top, the upcoming firmware update brings great improvements to daytime camera performance and battery performance. HTC continues to show themselves as a company dedicated to delivering a great experience for their customers.

That's all good and stuff. . but it's the hardware that is failing this device. All these defects. Don't get me wrong, I love my phone. However this is not okay for me and shouldn't be acceptable for anyone else.
I just want my phone to work as intended.

You appear to be the exception and not the rule with regard to defective M9s. If you hold out for an M9 that meets your standards, I think you'll be very pleased with the device. Good luck!
I ended up with 3 of them at one point. Got to choose between two grey and one gold silver. One of the greys had phucked up speakers. Kept it for a few weeks prior to paying for S off... What kind of momo would pay 25 USD the second they receive the phone. Ended up paying $450 cdn for one after all the credits they gave me for the hassle.

Sounds like me. Hah
I wish I'd sent mine back. Horrid battery and camera experience with this one
If it makes you feel better, I went through 3 Galaxy S6s with defects before I went to the M9. Yeah, I'm not happy with this onr, but it's more the camera and the heat that's ruining my experience. I'm just not sure why the hell you paid for S-Off 4 times. After the first, I would have waited to make sure the phone was FLAWLESS.

Trust me. I did. Until I looked at the phone when it was dark. For now on I'm going to be running tests every time I get a phone.
Is the replacement with T-Mobile or asurion? Or another private insurance..I remember with my wifes note4 they gave us a new phone right there in the store..and it was past the 15 days return policy...but then again it was Verizon not T-Mobile

They do it from asurion for some reason?
Hello boys and girls.
Would you be so kind to explain me how to understand if my htc one m9 is refurbished? Tried ##778# code and it does not work for me. And my phone is not rooted also.
Thank You in advance.
Best Regards,
So the third replacement they sent me (fourth phone) was also defected. So I finally called @HTC and explained to them what happened. They're sending me a new device, not some cleaned up BS used device. The one they will send me is going to be brand new. Good guys HTC (warranty).
