[Q] Total noob!! htc wildfire s (marvelc) - VirginMobile - HTC Wildfire S

Hey guys,
I'm a total noob and will probably make a total fool of myself with my questions..
I had the Virgin Mobile HTC WFS (marvelc) phone in the states... Now I'm back in India and need to switch networks.. For that I've been told I need to unlock the phone and install a new OS (basically drop the virgin OS).. I've got the procedure and the files to s-off and root the phone.. what should I do next?
Thanks for any help!!

Call virgin mobile and get the 6 digit msl code for your wildfire s, that will unlock it, but
i dont think you could use the phone on another network, unless maybe you flash another firm ware? maybe a member here can chime in on this

Could you probably also tell me which one would be a stable firmware to flash onto the phone?

Not sure of "stable" but someone has made CM9 for marvelc/virgin mobile phones. The creator of it has also made multiple ROMs for marvelc if you go to his profile. Heres the link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1714550

I've looked around quite a bit actually and have found a thread with a few firmwares... However, these all seem to be still in beta mode.. It would be great if anyone could tell me whether any of the rom's from the following link could be used for my purpose??

Are there CDMA networks in India? If so, then help can be given. If there are only GSM phones in India, then you will have to get a new phone.
A GSM radio (and especially a full RUU) CANNOT be flashed on a CDMA phone. It will NOT work; you will brick your device.

@kalaker-There are a few CDMA networks around here.....so there musn't be any problem as far as Radio is concerened
@agarwalayush-S-OFF your phone,root it.....insert the CDMA sim you want.....and wait a bit.
The main dev of CM9(Modpunk) is bringing support to Marvelc(he added it in the current release but it doesnt seem to work correctly as of now)

You don't have a SIM card on CDMA. Only GSM networks have SIM cards.
Also, Simon already has a stable (for a beta) build in his CM9 thread for Marvelc. Modpunk will have to start a new branch to full support Marvelc.

The only one is beta version. It's a good, stable ROM, though.
The link is in the second post in the thread.
Known Issues:
No Camera
No Bluetooth
No Wi-Fi tether

my only thought is if you had an India cdma phone that's active you can back up the AAA key and flash that to your phone (its not like flashing a ROM)

[Q] has anyone flashed incredible s eng hboot (with CWM) on dinc2?

I have had a Tmo G2 and when sense Roms grew to be a bit too large, one of the Virtuous guys made a guide to flash over to a desire s hboot. I wonder if its possible to do something similar with dinc2 / incredible s? It can be a bit scarey (easy to brick if you don't know what you are doing) but I'd enjoy flashing over if possible.
I'm kind of a noob, so I'm not sure what the advantage is of using a different hboot.

Because if you install a GSM radio over a dual-band CDMA/GSM radio, you will likely lose all CDMA connectivity and i'd be utterly shocked if it booted at all.

Tried the RMK Rom. It does see the sim card and says switching to global mode now but I still do not get reception with any French carrier. I wonder if I had to do something before I left with Verizon. Some of my colleagues were told to dial *228 to activate global usage and theirs is working, so I am thinking that might be the problem.
Try the GSM/UMTS mode, instead of global, and you may have to add your carrier's APN yourself.

I put in my colleague's Verizon sim card which was activated before we left the US and it worked just fine, so obviously it was my sim card.
Thanks for all the tips.
Ah, okay! I thought you were using a local sim card.

s_off discussion thread.

To keep the development clean you can discuss here all related things concurring s off benefits and more.
Huh?
There is a huge thread that's never far from the top.
think he means that the thread is now development not development and discussion now.
Yes because that thread is cleaned a several times i do not want to risk its getting closed or the developer is getting sick of it and stops.
So please if you have something to say about soff that is not helping in anyway to get us nearer to a soff device please post out here if you want it of your back :good:

Yes unlike early version the radio is within the ROM. So if you flash a ROM with new base you are flashing with the new base.
What are we wanting from s-off then? If we can change the radio, remove carrier branding, change roms and sim-unlock, what else is there?

People want S-OFF so they can do stuff to their phones without having to use HTC's tool to void their warranties. I would assume that's one of the biggest ones.

You can remove carrier branding without s-off by rooting and installing a custom rom but, for sim unlock, s-off is needed.

Rooting will give you simunlock. However, there is no guarantee it will work for all carriers. There are some it does not work with.

Yes. Use the ace hack kit only to unlock/root your phone. Do not use any other method. You can flash anything in the dev section. Read the op (first page) before flashing. It will list what works and what bugs are listed.
