If nothing else I hope someone makes a lock screen like that one. That's the only thing that really interests me. I've gotta have a app drawer personally.

if sharp every released good hardware w/ it in the us...id give it a hard look
seems like a mix between windows phones, lightning launcher, and ICS

I was lucky enough to use a rough beta of this on a friend's Japanese Keitai. It's very slick. The only downside is that, as the article says, all the widgets are out at once - ridiculous clutter. if they fix that, this'll be awesome.
If you've never used a Sharp phone, I recommend the experience. The build quality and overall polish is amazing. My favourite was the 3D-capable SH-12C. I imported one a while back, and it was truly awesome at the time.
I think this looks to be a good improvement on the current Android feel. Lock screen especially. I'll be keeping an eye out for this and hope it (or at least part(s) of it) make it over to Inc2.

Indeed. There was limited work on porting the old Sharp Launcher, which wasn't bad tell the truth. It's on a Japanese forum somewhere, I'll see if I can dig it up tomorrow
Yeah, here it is. If you go up one level, this is an actual pull of a ROM, framework and everything is in there.
Would look sweet on the Inc2, Justin (hint hint) :highfive: :good:

Very nice!! This is the Sense for android 2.1??
I like it! different if nothing else...
Love it!!! Looks pretty cool.. Cmon lox, make it stable, make us happy
looks nice. can you pull up the app menu from the bottom of the screen or do you have to hit the button as in 1.5 w/ sense? i would really like that
pictures from htcpedia, though it is worth getting an account, especially as the dev for the new rom will take place there!
Am I the only one who doesn't like this design? It looks quite cheap and... cheap lol
No you're not the only one.
I found it ugly, the current one is nearly perfect.
I really don't like the white frames around the icones.

Yeah, I second that.
The day that HTC goes with a nice simplistic design for it's software... Well, that will be a nice day
Then again, Android on it's own is simplistic. I really don't have any need for HTC's bloat.
I need to see more to pass judgement. I don't know if I dislike or like the new look of sense. I guess I will wait and see. Maybe they have added more ways of customizing its look. Like maybe allowing you to change the background of the app drawer. If so that would be nice. Though I am sure I am just being a wishful thinker.
The lock screen was better with the curve in it
I dont't like the white glass icons. They look ugly und cheap, but black glass icons would be nice.
Coming from a HTC Sensation here.. Was a bit worried with some of the initial previews and complaints, but damn I'm happy with my GN!
Major pros from my perspective:
- Absolutely stunning screen.
- ICS is the bomb. No need for a Sense-like skin to get a fantastic user experience.
- Pleased with battery life (ALOT better than my sensation)
- Software buttons IMHO are perfect. Not wasting space for HW buttons with basically less functionality. Have to admit tho that when I bad flash the framework I'm a bit crippled but this is a minor disadvantage imo.
- Awesome development already! Even tho ICS is in early release status.
- No crappy/broken & late sourcecode releases
Just a small cry of happiness. Nothing major in this topic. :d

Sweet!
I'm very happy with my GNex as well. Coming from a fascinate it's like having my phone but more solidly built, with 4G, and full google support. I'm really pretty impressed that verizion got 4G out here to my little town and got this phone for us. I'm way more impressed with all the good devs out there that are working on this phone.
I know it's going to be a run ride!
I just wanna say that I'm extremely pleased with my Verizon branded galaxy nexus, I know the battery life is crap, I know the launch was all screwed up, I know it has those vertical lines that everyone seems to Really notice, I know it has a two dollar plastic backing that They feels cheap, I see that it doesn't say Google on the back but verizon 4g lte, I realize that my update my come a week or two later after verizon approves it, I see that the camera is five megs and not eight like everyone else..... Tell me something I don't know.
I love this Phone. Best thus far. Its a benchmark device. No phone that I've seen has these very responsive buttons on the bottom. Love em!! Hey, they just work. Ain't that what they say about their product? Screen makes you wanna google something, don't it? Mostly everything is integrated into the software design of the phone. I understand the problems we are experiencing but cmon, no device is without this or that. Besides it will be fixed very shortly. Patience!! Best phone out. Benchmark Android.!!
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
I couldn't be happier with this phone. I don't see any vertical banding, the phone is very snappy and responsive (then again I had an OG droid and a droid eris). The only issue I have yet to have is maybe not so great LTE connectivity, but the guy at Verizon told me it wasn't too great in this area yet and should leave it in CDMA mode unless I am near philly. When I did get a 4g signal it was great, but not a full signal. I got downloads of 18mbps, 13 mbps, 10mbps and the lowest being 6mbps in no order and at different times and places. The camera take AMAZING pictures outside and with great light, however it becomes slow(blurry) and grainy in low light (this makes sense). The first brand new phone I bought was the first Storm blackberry that actually served me well until it killed itself. What I liked about the storm, or blackberries in general, is how the received email. Neither of my droids did this so well, I would get old mail notifications, it would double up on mail, and mail would come in late to the phone even if I had it to receive every 15mins or less. This phone, however, is great! I receive everything promptly.
In addition, I just got the extended battery... I know its not a lot but it helps. Also, as reported by other users, it makes the phone much nicer to feel in your hand. The added weight and curvature of the backing makes it fit really nice. Since I use the phone quite a bit, i was hoping the battery will help it last through the day (I am not expecting this phone to last me days) but so far it has been much better than my OG droid has been to me. The large screen may eat battery but its hard not to look at .
I am glad many other people seem to like it after listening to a lot of complaints that seem to be largely unfounded anecdotal evidence or from bloated demo phones in stores that probably have had 10 programs open all day at once. (I will agree though that the phone can get hot, but I don't think to the point that I couldn't hold it anymore... just sweaty palms.)
PSS: also, lag??? what lag?
I'm happy as well. However, I came from an OG Droid and almost anything is a step up from that.
I did mess with the Samsung Galaxy S II, Droid RAZR, and a few other high end phones, but the feel of the Galaxy Nexus takes the cake in my opinion.

really love your review. Hope I will be as happy with mine. I am coming from the D1, and I loved it a lot, rooted with GB. I got my GN yesterday, but waiting until Christmas to open it. Gift from the wife, and have to keep her happy. I am making her wait to open her new White, 64gig 3g iPad2
Question: have you got any updates yet? Have read of several problems, one being a bug in the signal strength, and something about the rocker volume.
How is your reception so far. I know that depends on a lot and if you even have 4g. I live in the Washington DC area, so pretty good 4g here. I will report back when I have spend time with my GN. Can't wait!!!
BTW, Verizon has pretty good reviews there. Thanks for sharing, and glad you love yours Thanks!
Add me to the pile of happy customers. I can't seem to put it down and that is what's killing my battery. If I use it under normal circumstances, I expect it will last long enough. I ordered a secondary battery to carry with me for a quick swap.
ICS is very refined in comparison to previous releases. Only feature I miss from HTC Sense is the ability to merge contacts from multiple places (Corporate Email, Facebook, Twitter) into one entry per person. Google Wallet rocks, if only it supported my credit cards.
Viva GNex!

For understanding the Signal Strength I recommend Anandtech's Investigation as a starting point. That being said, I have no complaints about signal strength but I did have an issue with the phone not routing data. It occurred on both Wifi and 4G. Had to reboot the phone to fix it. It showed a signal during the problem.

Hey guys! I just picked up my Nitro last night and so far I love it, at least the device itself. Thing is, I love the Sense 3.0 UI on the Vivid. Is there any way to port the complete HTC UI over to the Nitro to completely replace the Nitro UI? Maybe I will ultimately switch over to the HTC if I can't port the UI, but the LG device is superior in so many ways I thought I'd see if it is possible.

It's probably possible, unfortunately we still struggling with CWM recovery to port in, once that's done, then hopefully we get some custom roms, not until then.

I am not really a fan of HTC phones. Sure the metal shells and all that is fine, but when you put a phone in metal and drop it you will break your phone everytime. Metal bends once and doesn't flex back, but plastic has more give and recovers easier.
Not to mention out of the three LTE devices right now for ATT, the Vivid is the worst. Heaviest, smallest battery, bulkiest, and it doesn't even fit the "HTC" style.
But that is my opinion.

I had an Inspire and the first thing I wanted to do was remove Sense. The functionality is nice and it looks ok, but my main problems with it are that it takes a lot of memory and with Sense (or any manufacturer customization) it changes the way certain parts of the interface look and ultimately limits your ability to customize. I think all of the manufacturers should have a way to disable their interface. That way if you like it you can use it and if you don't you can turn it off. People wouldn't be in such a hurry to install custom roms if you could.
Don't worry. If you can't fully go to HTC Sense, there are a few good HTC phones on AT&T. If you ask me, I had the Nitro for a few days and didn't enjoy it, I've got CWM successfully ported to it and made a Custom ROM.
The phone gets old after you learn there's not much you can do with it.
Its a piece of crap to me and has no potential of staying alive. But of you decide you want an AWESOME LG phone, come join us at the Thrill. We soon will have 2 ICS ROMs on our way........

I have Inspire as well and after 9 month of heavy usage, installed lots of crap on it, it still runs smooth as brand new. I don't know why memory usage is so important for you, but I never ever had any problem with it nor ever it ran out of memory... The only reason I don't use it, is because no front camera (well and crappy back camera too), weak processor.
I can't comment on customization, cause I'm 100% satisfied with default look/settings...

1. Like a few grams heavier makes that much of a difference, go to the gym sometime -.-
2. The battery life is amazing and lasts all day with moderate-heavy usage.

I love my Inspire / Desire HD. I don't have a problem with Sense as a launcher as much as I have a problem with the customized user interface. Large status bar, separate e-mail program and calendar etc. I think plain Android has some pretty good solutions for all of this. I think anything that can be easily switched out like the Sense launcher or LG Home launcher is A-OK.
Sent from my LG-P930 using xda premium
Coming from an Evo 3D, I can say there are aspects of Sense that I miss. I really miss the Sense 3.0 lockscreen ring, as well as the gallery and phone apps. But those are things that can easily be fixed by third party programs such as Dialer One, Widget Locker, and QuickPic. But I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for the UI to come to this phone. It requires massive framework changes to do so, unfortunately.
I'm not saying anything wrong but 1) youi posted in the wrong section and 2) your asking for huge request that take week's and month's when there's only 3active developers in ur section.

Nice! looks really good
I am about to buy this phone by this afternoon. I am coming from a Nexus 4. My reasons are as follows:
1. Need faster speeds (LTE).
2. Want an AMOLED screen
3. Need better battery life than what I have now
I fully intend to root this device and put CM 11 on it.
Please let me know what are the negatives that I'm in for. I've read some things, but nothing definitive that someone can point out. It would be much appreciated for those who actually have the phone to chime in and let me know what shortcomings you have with it so that I can ensure I'm making a sound decision.

Can't really think of any negatives. The Note 3 is a great phone. One negative you might get from someone is that the Amoled screens are notorious for having burn in. I have yet to experience this and haven't seen any reports of it on the Note 3. I don't think it's anything to worry about and I'm sure Samsung made sure the display on the Note 3 is top notch.
I just thought of a negative actually: in my opinion, the display is a bit over saturated, but it's not too bad.

Would you guys say that CM11 is stable enough in its nightly form to be used as a daily driver?
And believe it or not, my Nexus 4 has temporary burn-in even though it's an IPS screen, while my old SGS 3 which is an AMOLED did NOT have any burn in.

Haven't ran CM in a while. I feel I get a much more out of the phone on stock rom (with Google Now launcher and some Wanam Xposed modding)
but to answer your question, yes CM11 is very stable on the note 3 other than NFC not working. Unfortunately, you wont find any AOSP rom at this moment for the Note 3 that has NFC working. I can't really say if the latest CM11 nightlies are stable or not because I haven't ran CM in a while but there is the M5 build which I can tell you is stable. You can check the "official CM nighties" thread in the development section for more solid impute.
To make my answer more strait forward, CM11 nightless have always been stable enough for daily drivers (when I ran them) but I can't confirm that the latest builds are stable because I'm not running CM. Sorry if I'm confusing lol

Sorry, I just really don't believe in CM on the Note. Other phones for sure. But not on the Note. Putting CM on the Note is like buying a BMW and replacing the entire car with after market. You don't get all the Sammy stuff that this phone was built for. There's alot of gimmicky stuff that nobody (well I don't) use, but there are some fundamental things that are built into TW like note app, and things like that. Using CM i have been able to get all that functionality back, but using alot of 3rd party apps that just don't work as smoothly. My big thing is Sammy trying to make you use it's apps and not giving you the option to map buttons, flicks, blah blah, with other apps like google search.
All in all it comes down to what you prefer and what makes you happy. Very good phone with premium build and specs.

I really appreciate the input.
I'm not too interested in all the gimmicks Samsung put on the phone to begin with. Even if I just get a phone with a big screen with CM11, as basic as it sounds, that'd be good enough for me.

I agree. The Note 3 really doesn't have any lag with the TW launcher (though i use Nova Prime) anymore and I use the Stylus and like some of the features it has. To me it's like neutering the phone removing the Spen functionality. Why buy the phone and remove a lot of the point of buying it? Plus TW has grown on me, the UI of CM is so bland it looks like a kids project. I used to use CM on my Bionic but ever since they went commercial and became Cyanogen Inc. i will not use CM anymore, not after what they pulled on developers where they basically stole a lot of the work that individuals did and let CM use to help polish their OS and didn't even at least give credit in most cases, like CM designed it.

Yeah. Alot of us were kinda perved about CM doing that, but in return, they gave us "MOUNDS" of stuff to work with. So it's kinda a win , win. Plus Koush works tireslessly still to help out both the forum and the community. So i feel like, whatever lil tweak i announced on here over the years, these guys probably already knew about. Love the XDA community.

Exactly. This is true. I'm not tied to the hip with CM, but they just update a lot more frequently. Honestly, any ROM that gives me the flexibility that CM does, I'd be cool with.
I'm with you guys about cm on the note, it was great on previous devices but it just doesn't do the note line any justice. With the specs these notes come with even the bloat fest that is TouchWiz runs flawlessly, I use both adw ex & nova prime myself for a slimmer and more customizable experience but honestly the stock tw launcher is much improved since it's first showing back on the original galaxy s phones.
You buy a note 3 for its beast like specs, it's premium quality sized screen and s-pen. Only people with tiny hands can claim they prefer an HTC one m7/m8. Don't even get me started about build quality on HTC since people will just put a plastic case over it anyways defeating the purpose. Besides note line have proven to be the real game changers when it comes to cutting edge performance and specs, I was yawning over all the other devices that were struggling to keep up with our note 3 lol

Yeah I can see and understand where you're coming from. I know Koush does a lot for the community but that bothered me a bit. Plus the note takes a step back with CM in my opinion so i haven't even been keeping up with CM actually.
