hello i am new here and need some help. my problem is that i have my phone and i cant conect to 2G network in vodafone (greece).my sim card is ok because i have cheked it in another phone. when i switchon my phone i cannot conect to 2g network (it says something about the sim), and it only conects to 3G automatically.the 3G signal is bad in greece so i cannot use it very well and i would like to make it connect to 2g.tell me please what to do ?what kernel,what rom ,what frimware i have to put to fix my problem. my model is Xperia Play R800i.
Try by going to Settings > Wireless & networks > Mobile networks > Network mode and select GSM only.

i have trai this bat nothing when i select this gsm only i can found network bat i can not conect.so auto reterns to 3G mode

I also face the same problem, tried with many roms including the r800a but none of them fix the problem.. Is this an issue for all R800 type phone?
Is there any way to fix this?

My experience with CM7 has always been negative regarding cellular service. There's always some problem. If you want to fix your problem, and you don't care about losing CM7, try flashing the latest stock firmware you are comfortable with using onto the phone, with the latest baseband that is going to work in your country.

What is your firmware/baseband?
Your problem is probably in the baseband. Or your service provider isn't in that area with that coverage? Try flashing a different band or ftf.

my one x perfectly working with 3 uk sim card but not getting any 2g signals on any other sim cards.
im getting 3g servcie with all sim cards but not 2g.can use internet but cant make phone calls
but can use perfectly with 3...
phone is running letest 2.17.401.2 and my cid is HTC_001
phone is not asking for any unlock code when i turn on with diffrent sim card just saying no signals but data icon is come up
and i can use internet properly.

Type in the dialer *#*#4636#*#* then click on phone information and scroll down to where it says "set preferred network type" is. My phone says WCDMA preferred. You can click on what yours says and change it. I have boxed round the bit in red (check the attached pic)
Ya I checked its already on wcdma preferred .I tried all others all well but same.no signals but 3g data working fine...is there any other settings for this?

reflash the ruu. It might be a radio bug.
Just flash the 2.17.401.11 again still the same...is there any other way to flash just the radio or can I flash any diffrent radio..?

You can flash different radio's if you are htc dev unlocked and have cwm as your recovery

flashed the other radios but still the same..
but thank you very much for you help mate..hope any one out there know how to fix that fault..
The only thing i can suggest is that you send it back to htc for repair.
This might be a silly suggestion but have you tried going into settings then mobile network, then network mode and changing that to GSM/WCDMA auto?

yes i tried every thing..but same thing.
htc refused to repair coz i think my bootloader says relocked..and my phone screen was broken and replaced it my self..

i ve changed today provider and 3G is not working.When i open data,it is always under GPRS.Can anyone think hw can i solve this?Also the provider is vodafone.If i download the Greek KDZ (wich is for the phone been sold by vodafone) will change something?is there any posibility to work without changing baseband?cause i think that if i change rom and then baseband same error will occur.

may be the access point is wrong,may be you can press "*#*#4636#*#*"to select a proper network mode,and i believe if you flash kdz will give you 3g back,but it is the last way.

Pressing *#*#4636#*#* didnt help.it did nothing,i couldnt choose something.ill try to back up my phone and then do a factory reset,cause lte doesnt work too.Btw 3g worked yesterday randomly some time..Dont know what the hell is going on!

May be incompatible frequencies?
F180L is version for LG Telecom which doesnt use WCDMA network.
F180L does supports WCDMA, but as i remember it has some odd frequencies.
And check the APN

well with my former provider it worked fine.And its strange cause sometimes 3g works with this provider too!the bad thing is that i cant choose in this rom in what mode i want to connect.In open european mode it had some options,also in stock avatar rom.I think ill try a hard reset and if i dont have any changes ill try to use open european version.Btw does anybody know,if i change to european version,can i have OTA updates?Or ill have to dowload it everytime and install it through KDZ updater?

anyone any solution?
I tried this but when I clicked on the "select radio band" option, it gave me an error notice "?unfortunately, the process com.android.phone has stopped". Plz how do I rectify? NB... My device has no connection to any of the carrier networks after upgrade.

I am having similar problems with my F240s, is it showing IMEI as unknown when sim is inserted (only when sim is inserted) ?

okay but does it show the IMEI in system settings or not ?
If with the sim inserted it says UNKNOWN under IMEI then that means your efs data has corrupted.

Try changing the network mode, you can do this by using the WCDMA hidden menu: 5457#*240#
set to your preffered network mode & see if that helps or else flash the baseband for your phone from here:

Actually this is a very common code for this mobile, its all over xda !
Like for the AT&T E980 model the code goes as 5457#*980# & so on.

After that my phone always shown EMERGENCY CALLS ONLY
I've tried to search for networks but only some networks detected and it's all in 2g network, no 3g network detected. And the worst is my carrier network was not detected even its 2g or 3g network.
Now i use another simcard from another carrier that detected on my phone. At least i can use my phone with only 2g network.
Anyone knows what is causing this?
PS: I've tried all stock rom, some custom rom, all CM rom. Unlock and relock bootloader. But no effect. Please help :crying:

Let's start out with the basics - Questions must be posted to Q&A, not General section.
Second, did you try to repair firmware by PC Companion? Use the method for when phone does not start up. Make sure bootloader is locked first.

are stock recovery and boot files same for all regional versions of ruu. Please ans me. I am having problem afterrevert back to ruu. 3G net work stop working and I can't use 3g internet. Please help, if anyone knows about it.

Are you able to use 2G atleast? Did you check the APN settings for your carrier?

Yes, I can use 2G. I checked apn settings. When I select WCDMA only, network just goes off. but when GSM or WCDMA Preffered is selected, then only 2G starts.
