camera no more working, need help - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Hello,
today i played on my gnex a tower defender game... and i forget to close the game and wifi... after some time (3 or 4 hours) i looked at my phone and it was off (i guess because of the game and the wifi on )
after that i tried to reboot it after putting the power cable in.
it does only bootloop... so i though : super i guess i found a bug on the MIUI rom ....
so i first tried to reinstall that rom (without wiping... because i didn't want to loose my data)... it doesn't change anything
so i tried installing the latest AOKP (b39) still without wiping... i got a lot of errors on boot
so i did it again, this time wiping the data
it boot, it seams to works well... but after 30 min i wished to take a picture... and i got FC
I asked on the aokp thread if this is normal, it seams not
so i installed it again (and of course did a full wipe again... cache, data, davlik cache) but still no camera working
so i force the camera app to close and delete it data, but still no luck
i tried CM9 nightly and Foxhound 0.6 .... every rom refuse to make my camera works
any idea ? (i will try them after night... it is 2 AM now and i really need to sleep)
hope to see some answer in a few hours
Thanks in advance

do you have any nandroid backups saved?

It sounds like b39 may potentially have a Linaro optimization that breaks the camera; guessing. As far as flashing ROMs (markedly different) ROMs without wiping, good luck with that. B/U your apps/data with Titanium b/u or alike.
As mentioned above, hope you have nandroid.

B39 does NOT have any Linaro optimization, nor will future releases for the foreseeable future. Said by the dev himself on the release page.
Anyways, saw this happen on my gfs Sprint Gnex. Fixed it by clearing all and any data from the Camera app, disabling it, rebooting, enabling the camera app, and rebooted again. Haven't had the Camera FC since then.
Also, you should ALWAYS wipe data. Saying that you installed a rom but WITH wiping data makes me think that the Camera most likely doesn't work due to user error.

There's more to Linaro than the tool chain and 03 optimizations. Last time I looked at the aokp code review there were plenty of merged Linaro bits.
Edit: I agree optimization was the wrong choice of word.

thanks everyones for answers.
i will try the method you said and cross fingers for it to work.
if not i will try an old nandroid backup
if not..... well i guess i will come here and cry for help

very fast feedback...
i let the phone turned off all night
i turned it on and tested it BEFORE even doing what you told... and it works again
crazy....
yesterday i reboot the phone at least 20 times and the problem was not gone

Remember. A Rom needs to settle and dig it's teeth into the phone.
It actually takes 2 weeks for all the bugs to work there way out I believe.

I've gotten a couple PM's that people love the ROM, and I plan on making a EC07-Nuckin-2 package.
My thoughts thus far:
New Kernel (imnuts)
Scribble boot animation
Zeam Launcher to replace TouchWiz (Zeam is super memory efficient)
Dolphin Mini to replace Browser
Better instructions, including a TAR to use with Odin
Link to alternate framework-res.apk (trailblazer's) to restore the buttons
What do you think would make this ROM cooler/faster/awesome...er?

I flashed this rom a few days ago, and so far it is great. I love how clean and fast it is.
The only problems I have had are some issues it apps FCing. I use these apps daily and was wondering if anybody has had any luck fixing FC problems? I would hate to do it, but if I can't get these apps working right I might have to reflash DL17 again.
Here are some of the apps I have come across so far that FC every time:
-Wells Fargo Mobile
-Stock Android Browser
-Movies
I am sure there are other, but these are the only ones that I have found so far that I use on a regular basis. If anybody has any insight on this it would be great.

I had the same problem with Browser, I just switched to Dolphin Mini HD but I understand you can't really do that with the other 2 apps you listed. Is it just my ROM you've had this issue with or all EC03 and EC07 ROMs?
I've had the same issue. It's been with all versions of ec07 though. some ec03 as well (if memory serves me correctly) I swapped to dolphin browser and haven't had any trouble.

Can I assume you wiped dalvik on install? If so, I'd start by clearing data on each of the affected apps in settings/applications/manage applications. And if that fails, try deleting the apps themselves, along with any data stored on SD card and reinstall fresh. Generally fc issues are due to the way the app interacts with the system.

Yeah, the browser is not that big of a deal, I switched to Opera and like it alot better than stock anyway. I ran the clean EC07 first before I switched to your rom, but I only had it on for a couple of hours so I don't know if that one had the FC issues as well. I don't think there is enough difference between the two to cause these issues. Yours is just more debloated.

Yes, I wiped cache, dalvik cache, and did factory reset/wipe data before I installed the rom, then wiped the caches again after just to be sure. I tried uninstalling/reinstalling all the apps I was having problems with. I will try clearing the app data and removing data from SD card tonight and let yall know if anything changes.
---------- Post added at 09:56 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:12 PM ----------
Ok, tried clearing data, uninstalling, wiping SD card, and reinstalling apps. Didn't work, they are all three still FCing. I think it has something to do with them accessing network/data. Browser doesn't FC until I try to load a page, Wells Fargo doesn't FC until I try to log in, and Flixter movies FCs as soon as I open it. All thee times they are trying to use network. Doesn't matter if I am on 3G for Wifi.
Just a thought, I don't know if that actually has anything to do with it.
One more thought, is it possible to have your phone hooked up to ADB in usb debugging while running an app to see why it is getting a force close?

I'm pretty sure you can use the command logcat for that

Yes. As circa said, logcat
Commands are as follows
Adb shell
(it will start daemon. Once that is done, you will get a hashtag)
Logcat
(wait for it to scroll, then after it settles down, start the affected app)

[Q] Multiple issues after transferring with Titanium Backup

Just to let people know, I'm a relative noob to Android in general and particularly to this site, so have some patience.
My wife's Samsung Galaxy S 4g's screen broke, so she got the T989 as a replacement. After doing some research, it seems that Titanium Backup was the recommended way to move data over. So, I needed to educate myself on how to do that. The original phone was easy and I did the backup. The S II was less easy and after spending way too much time on the i9100 forum, I found out I was in the wrong place.
So, anyways, got her phone jailbroken and ran TB on it to restore. Unfortunately, it seems to be the beginning of my problems. Phone app didn't work. Cleared data there, which she lost her contacts. TWLauncher throws errors. Clear data there as well. Messaging hasn't worked either, and it seems to be the solution is to wipe the whole thing. I also can't seem to browse the file system via USB.
What am I doing wrong here? All I wanted to do was to move everything over from the old phone to the new one, but it seems I bought trouble.
You are reporting a back up from a completely different phone. Restoring data will often cause things to go funny. It's usually recommended to simply restore the app and nothing more. I would recommend just resetting the phone back to stock, full wipe and don't restore anything. See how it functions initially, then once you think things are going well, just start to restore apps.
 cheers

If i install twrp and flash a custom rom, will i be able to install the app and continue playing my game at the same spot i saved it at? I tried searching for the answer but have seen mixed answers via google dancing around my specific question. Thanks everyone for your time.

It's going to depend on the app really. Some apps don't play well with some roms. I've backed up games and restored to current roms and been fine, while others didn't restore correctly. Trial and error my friend, trial and error.

If the build prop hasn't changed I'd say try fix permissions and see if that solves it. Also could try wiping the app cache. All else fails redo the hack for it

I have redone the hack and it still does not work. Somehow this is working on cm10 based roms but as soon as you come back to a touchwiz rom it force closes. It used to work perfectly on Macs rom, project rom and slim rom but now it does not work on any of them.

This seems plausible to me...
4. If you running an N7100/7105 rom and have already flashed the nfc fix file or used the nfc files from it, then it is too late. If you recall using those files causes android to upgrade some 270+ files on first reboot. Once that occurs I believe that 4.1.1 apks and lib files makes fundamental changes to a bunch of other apps (like camera, gallery, and etc) which is causing the nfc force closes. You must start fresh again.

I just realized that when we edit the build. prop to get the wallet to work, we lose s-note functionality. Wouldn't it be easier to edit the file to mimic that of the galaxy s3? Galaxy nexus gone slow

Hi. My phone (on Stock unrooted 4.1.2, didn't upgrade to 4.2.2 for no reason) has recently become very, very slow. I guess the reason for that is that I recently copied an MKV movie to it. Ever since I did that, it has been dead slow. Even though I have deleted it now, the sluggishness still persists. There's nothing else that I did (ever since this problem started), and please note, my phone was blazing fast before this, so I don't expect suggestions to flash a new ROM or kernel (because I'm a noob when it comes to flashing ROMs and stuff, and I will have so many more problems doing so). I think my phone can go back to the state on stock ROM and kernel.
Another thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1988233) mentions the same problem, I've found out that I have the exact same problem. My phone wasn't sluggish before I copied the movie. But now that I have removed it, the phone is stil slow and sluggish*
* what does it mean when i say "slow and sluggish":
- pressing the lock button doesn't turn the screen on, i have to do it a couple of times
- apps take longer to load
- widgets don't load (most of them)
- everything that you can imagine (swiping, sliding, etc) is slow.
Help, please. Thanks in advance.
Clear the cache of the video player application that you tried to play the video with. That may help. Go into settings>apps>downloaded>your video app>clear cache.
If it's the Gallery, go into all applications instead of downloaded.
Sent from my Nexus 10 using Tapatalk 4 Beta
It may be caused by installing too many RAM-hogging apps, if you're rooted you can try using Greenify from the play store and see if that helps.

I didn't copy the movie for playing, I copied it to transfer it somewhere else. And I've cleared cache of the video player MX Player just to be sure, and uninstalled it. Still no use.
One more thing. Apps are not responding, even stock apps. Once I open an app, it takes forever to load, and the message pops up: "<app> is not responding, would you like to stop it?" with the options "wait, stop, report".
All this has started ever since I copied that movie to my phone. Before that, it was blazing fast, no RAM hogging apps or anything.

[Q] ART or Dalvik?

Well, there is an option in Developer Options to select either the old, trusty Dalvik cache or the new, snappy Android Run Time. I'm kind of inclined to select ART, since it promises faster response time... but I wanted to check with you folks to see what YOU decided to use.
So which do you prefer? And why? And have you encountered any issues? I'm using the Developer Edition, rooted with deodexed stock ROM.
ART seems buggy right now. I'll use Dalvik until android L

ART works well for battery life..... But is really slow to boot up. So if you restart your phone often it will be painful.
My phone got blazing hot after I set it to ART. Set it back to Dalvik and took it apart for a few minutes to let it cool down.
Using ART and everything is great. But ever since I had an update for S Health my phone must optimize 83 apps and it takes a good 5 minutes until I see my lock screen. Haven't tried to use S Health yet but it had FC on me a few times when trying to open it. Should I wipe the app's data and then reboot? Other than that I have seen nothing but positives from using ART.

I never set up the app either. I uninstalled, set it up and now im gonna try to update and see if it holds up. Is it a bug related to ART or just in general?
I completely forgot that 4.4 brought ART along with it. Just enabled and yes the initial boot took a while because it recompiled apps from JIT to AOT.
I havent noticed any major slow downs besides right after first boot since then it has been fine. I wonder what this will do for battery life.
