Went to FF11 from stock el29 and I do not get a signal at all. I don't know why but it doesn't matter where I go. I have traveled a couple hours around my area and still no signal. Not even 3g icon appears. This can't be the OTA could it?! Or am I missing something?
update profile and prl
I was getting the same if you turn on airplane mode turn off then reboot it will come back.

did all the above mentioned
thanks for the advice but i've done those things several times, also tried out 5 different modems...can't find one to even get the 3g icon on...weird bc it shows 4 solid bars but no 3g or data
Possible Sprint outage in your area. Its been happening a lot lately.
you could try doing that reactivation thing too...
Type getprop ril.MSL in adb shell or terminal to retrieve your MSL and write it down
Then dial ##72786# from the Dialer and enter that MSL.

This is probably the best advice you'll get. After fudging with network settings for days trying various tweaks and crazy ideas of mine, I doinked mine completely too. This does a 'factory reset' on your network settings. You'll have to 'activate' your phone afterwards and should also then do a PRL update and Network update again just to make sure.
edit. I'm assuming you used sfhub's stock rooted one-click. If you didn't - do that first!
Yeah, highly suggested the full wipe, not the nodata, version.
Huh?

He is trying to get you to clear out your NVRAM, which is where the network programming information is stored. The MSL is a unique code for your phone that allows for many different diagnostics on your phone, including a full wipe, NVRAM wipe only, editing your data settings, and much much more. It is used in conjuntion with different codes you can put into your dialer, all following a ##_____# format.
The reason this might help is because no matter how many times you flash, the NVRAM never gets touched. So forcing this information to reset itself will basically re-attach it to the network.
An easier way to get your MSL is to go to the market and download Get My MSL. Run the program and it will kick out a 6 digit number. Write down that number.
Then go to the dialer and and punch in ##72786#. This will then prompt you for you for your MSL. It will then bring up a window that says SCRTN. Hit yes on that window, and it will wipe your programming out. The phone will reboot and reactivate itself.
It's kind of the end all be all of profile updates. If this doesn't work, nothing will. You will either have to go back to GB, or, if you live in a major city, wait for them to finish working on your tower, as it is likely that they are flipping it over to be the new Sprint towers that have better signal and support LTE.

You need a terminal emulator. I assume any of them will work, but I use this. Open said terminal emulator, and type in the command "getprop ril.MSL" without the quotes. It should return a number (mine was 6 digits, I assume they're all 6 digits). This is your MSL. Note the command is case sensitive, meaning getprop ril.msl will not work.
Now open the dialer, like you were going to make a phone call, and type ##72786#. I believe you then push the green "send" button, and then type the MSL. That should send a signal to reprogram your phone's radio from Sprint. (Note I may be slightly incorrect on this part, I've never really had a reason to do this myself).
A little more info would help a lot like, How did you update to FF11? Also did you do a full wipe before updating to FF11? You might have to do a clean wipe! And odin is the best way (safest) to install ICS in my opinion. Could be a modem problem also. Id reflash back to gingerbread with odin, wipe clean with Caulkulins format all zip, then odin back a fresh install of FF11. Always follow the safest ways to flash and you will have better chances of having a good running rom.

Msl reader isnt working for me gives me a error. I put it on modem for both. have dev mode disabled. I run cdma workshop connect to port 2 hit read spc an get a error "Phone ask for SPC. SPC (6 digits) is required. Check "security" tab - "SPC" section."
I really need my MSL to fix my mms and Update my prl because i get a error everytime i try to.
Idk if this is info thats needed but i am rooted 2.2 rom
Am i supposed to enter a SPC before hand... lol or am i just missing something.
Edit: I also have the samsung drivers installed and am using the same cable i rooted with last night. The error i get with MSL reader is "ERROR: /dev/smd0 does not exist. This phone is not compatible."
I'm guessing you already tried this

EDIT: Easier Way to get MSL. Okay so you have to download connectbot from the Market
1. Open ConnectBot
2. Agree Next Next Yada Yada
3. Press SSH and select Local
4. type in whatever you want by local and press enter
5. ok once you see a black screen and to the left a cash sign, type in "getprop" without the quotes
6. You should see a lot of words, scroll up all the way at the top.
7. Near the middle of the screen until you see [ril.MSL]
8. It will be 6 digits and that's your MSL

Doubtful but not impossible
Try this then see if it works
excerpt from 4g signal mod
1. Dial ##3282#
2. It will open a menu, click WiMAX and enter MSL. Note: 4G radio must be on.
3. Go to extensions and Hold EntryRX and Write Extension
4. Change the Value from -89 to -110 (The Lower the weaker the signal can be for the phone to connect.)
5. Change EntryCINR to 0004
just get to step 2 and see of it accepts your MSL
Lol wow it did thanks guys!
Have new to me Sprint HTC Evo rooted and I cannot activate on Sprint because I cannot get correct MSL. Sprint Tech gave me number it thought was correct but no luck. I downloaded a msl reader, EScode from PCWorld and it gave the same number Sprint had for the msl.
So, can anyone give me some help on how to obtain the msl?
Thanks for the help.
download msl reader from the market, and it'll give you the 6 digit code. You can remove the battery from the phone, and read off the meid number, and make sure the information matches the actual phone you have.
I'm not sure I understand. I have downloaded a msl reader and it did not work. Are you advising I download an another/different msl reader?
Naw, its the same one. The app asks for super user permissions, then gives you a 6 digit code? Also, your bootloader shows s-off?

You may want to do a Factory Reset from Menu > Settings > SD & phone storage > Factory data reset.
After the phone reboots, it may go through the hands free activation. If it does, you're set. If not, by this time you should be able to enter the MSL. I would recommend doing a Data Profile restore by opening up the virtual keypad, typing ##DATA#, entering your MSL, going to Edit Mode and then selecting Data Profile. You'll be taken to the Data Profile page. Once you're there, press the Menu button on the phone and tap on the Restore option. Phone will reboot.
I did this even after rooting with Unrevoked3 and encountering the same issue and it worked.
Anybody have this problem? i have a cloned epic that was working fine but now i cant send/ receive calls or texts. If i try to make a call i get an error code 16. my data still works fine. I dont get the error code if i switch back to my donor phone either.

You'll need to try reactivating your phone. You can maybe pull this off without calling sprint if you have another (CLEAN ESN) phone, and just go to your account and replace the Epic activation for the second phone and then wait a couple of hours and switch it back to the Epic.
I suggest you taking down your MSID, and you'll need your MSL (on terminal or adb shell type getprop ril.MSL to acquire it)
Did you get the error 16 because you tried noobln nvram fix?....

How do i replace the Epic activation in my account if sprint thinks i'm using a different phone? do you mean to just clone another phone? I didn't try the noobln nvram fix.
Does anyone how retrieve the MSL code using CDMA Workshop for the Epic Touch? I can easily do it with any HTC phone but it doesnt work with the Epic Touch. I know that you can it easily get it with an app but Im not rooted. Also for whatever reason when I activate a phone to my Sprint account they alway give a MSL code that doesnt work so I always have to get MSL code myself to finish activating the phone. Thanks for anyone who helps.
From a terminal or adb shell just type "getprop ril.MSL"
Sprint used to give the MSL and the One Time Key online. Now they just give you One Time Key, which isn't that useful if this isn't the first activation.
1. Download connectbot from market and type getprop ril.MSL
2. Call sprint and tell them you are traveling overseas on a business trip. This method worked just last week with only two tries. First attempt was shot down when I told them that I was a dev and needed msl to complete my project. As soon as I got off the phone, i called right back and told them that Im traveling overseas on a business trip and the rep gave it to me right over the phone.
To get CDMA Workshop to read the MSL, you first need to dial ##8778# and then choose "all". Afterwards, load up CDMA Workshop and connect to it like you would your HTC phones. Go to the security tab and choose custom password and send "01F2030F5F678FF9". After that just read spc and you'll have your msl!
Thanks for the help but the getprop ril.msl only works for rooted phones.
but beserker15 your method work great. thanks

Glad you got what you needed. getprop works on stock unrooted. It is case sensitive. "getprop ril.MSL" not "getprop ril.msl"
1. Open Dialer on phone
2. Dial ##8778#
3. Connect phone to computer. (hope you have the drivers or Kies installed)
4. Start/ Right Click Computer/Select Manage Computer.
5. Select Device Manager
6. Find What Com Port your Sammy is on.
7. Open CDMA WS
8. Select Com port and USB
9. Click Connect
10. Click Read
11. Select the Security Tab
12. Password Select Samsung Default. If that isn't there click where you enter one and enter this; 01F2030F5F678FF9. Click Send
13. Look in the box under SPC and see your MSL.
Got a few questions specifically regarding the new aokp JellyBean rom for the Epic, and I thought I'd post them here since the original thread got shut down:
1. Is there any way to get the "enter" button to not send messages in the SMS application?
2. Is there any way to prevent the "mount your USB storage!" popup from coming up every time the device is connected to a computer?
3. Back on the samsung based roms, I was able to to type ##debug## to get to a menu where I could force 1xrtt mode for extremely low signal situations. In the new rom, I found you can get to that same menu by typing in *#*#debug#*#*, but any screen prompting for the msl code is now impassable. I know my msl code, but it gives me a "modem error" no matter what I type and asks "modem exception occurs", to which the only option is "yes" (clicking it just closes the application).
Any way to get around this?
Thanks

Sorry, I should've been more specific. I was actually aware of this, but I was hoping that there would be a way to change this functionality on the stock messaging application so that I don't have to hit the Fn key to get the enter button to do what it's supposed to do.

It's not that I can't access the menus, it's that some parts of the menus prompt for my MSL code before I can access them, and for some reason, typing in my MSL code (000000) doesn't do the trick anymore, it just gives me that "Modem Error" and lets me know that a "Modem exception occurs". My only choice in the dialog is "Yes", but that just exits the menu completely.

I actually do have USB debug enabled already and a widget to easily toggle it off for use with computers that don't have the driver installed. I see the popup upon USB connection with USB debug enabled or disabled.

I'm not sure if you're saying your MSL code is 000000, or if you were using zeros as placeholders. If you are saying that your MSL is 000000, that would be very unlikely. To get your correct MSL, use a Terminal Emulator of your choice and type "su" and press enter, then "getprop ril.MSL" press enter again and you should see your MSL. Also, you wouldn't happen to be using a NS4G modem, would you? I'm not too sure on ways to fix this, because it hasn't happened to me.

Good question - My MSL is, as a matter of fact 000000, (I even doublechecked with the terminal on the off chance that something changed it) because I changed it to that to make it easier to access in CDMA workshop, qpst, and qxdm back when I was working to clone my old phone's service so that I could continue using my sprint sero $30 unlimited data plan.
As for the modem, I am still using the stock Epic EL30 modem. Would this be causing the problem? And if you don't mind sharing, which rom and modem are you using? What happens when you dial *#*#DEBUG#*#* at the dialer?
Thanks

Like I said, I'm not sure what causes the modem exception error. I'm using Effsi's 0611 build of PACman ROM with didhiy's 0606 nitest, and the NS4G LF2 modem. And when I dial that, it prompts for the MSL, I put in my MSL and it goes to the debug menu with no problem.
