Hi,
Sorry if this has been asked before, I could not find the information I was looking for.
I am a senior member and I am limited to 8 thanks per day, this had previously been more than enough for me. However I started a thread that has been published all over the web and is featured on xdaTV it has had 76,000 views and 1000 post in only 2 weeks. Here is the thread...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1688538
Since starting the thread I keep running out of thanks, many people have made a great contribution to the thread and deserve a thanks from me.
Is there anyway I can get more thanks? If I can get my user rank upgraded would this give me more daily thanks.
Sorry if I don't thank you for your replies lol, I'll have to thank you now in advance.
Regards,
Oliver
i dont know if an upgrade (maybe to recognized cantributor) will give you more thanks, but if you are using tapatalk or/and tapatalk based apps like xda premium you dont have any limit....

I'm using both lol, seriously, I got xda premium and liked it so much I then bought tapatalk.
The apps say I have thanked the user, but they are not thanked. Probably just a little bug with tapatalk.
If being a recognized contributor would give me more thanks I'd appreciate that, how do you apply or do they contact you?
Cheers for your reply mate,
Oliver
Being an RC doesn't give you any more thanks for now but we are requesting an increase in the daily thanks limit. Check here for more info on the RC program.
i dont know if it will give you more thanks, but anyway read this:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1646309
Thanks to all for your replies,
It would be nice to be recognised for the contributions I have made to this forum, but not important for me. I would have expected being recognised would increase your thanks privilege. I feel 8 per day is enough for most users but no not for RC's or myself
Looks like I am stuck at 8
Sorry I cant click your thanks buttons.

We may get a few more at some point, but the reason it is limited is to prevent it from becoming too devalued. What if everyone had dozens or hundreds or thousands of thanks? Besides, we used to only have 5 a day just a few months ago.

I understand that, but members who rarely post get the same as RUs who often write 10x as many posts. Surely RUs deserve more at least double?

We have requested that but are awaiting the mods and admins decision. If not, then no big deal. I just won't thank snarky or funny posts as much which do make me laugh, but don't add real value to the site.
Bumping to ask if there is any action on increasing the amount of thanks.
8 just isn't working
Maybe I'm a serial thanker, yet it's slightly frustrating constantly running out on some of these dev\help\guide threads.
Any consideration for an increase from the top would be a very good.
Curious as to why the number 8 vs 10 or say 15 :fingers-crossed:

We really need our own development forum. It could be set up for Viewsonic specifically, or Malata A1002(many versions of this rebranded) based devices.
These threads are getting absolutely too big to deal with:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=824804
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=827209
Agreed, this device is really taking off and there alot of good info, but the size of the threads are getting to big to find it easly. A section for the G-Tablet or at least Tegra 2 platform would help.
Even though I am currently hosting tegratabs.com, I agree. That site was set up as a stop-gap, in hopes that we will soon get an official spot here on XDA. I'll continue to host forums there while they are needed, but I have no problem with converting that site into a wiki or other informational resource once it is no longer needed for forums.

I completely agree.

Thread Support
I have always respected the work that is done on XDA and support (and donate) whenever I can...
Please continue by giving this device the respect it deserves by allowing more room.
Thanks in advance.

The current thread is getting VERY hard for new people to catch up. I have been reading since the first post and still spend 20 minutes or more catching up a few times a day.
I think someone said there are 30k of these coming to market this year. I know XDA was mainly for smartphones but tablets are coming up quick. So maybe a tablet section under the android section? 1800+ replies on a week old thread on a device that was poorly advertised (dual boot huh?) and poorly executed (tapncrap) is pretty amazing to me.
Either way thanks to xda for giving the geeky masochist/enthusiast in all of us a place to call home over the years.

This. Agreed. Thanks Nearly 2000 posts in 10 days is worthy.
Adding my two cents. If the Galaxy Tab gets one, so should we.
Agreed. A Tegra section would be great.

It's a redondant request, and all the time we says that's enough for xda members.
You don't need more to avoid thank's spam and thanks to excessive.
That's why you have 8 thanks per day. Before it was 5..
You get 8 thanks per day, and they renew after 24 hours or so. Each thanks is independent of the others,
so if you give someone a thanks at 3, and then another at 4, those will renew at 3 and 4 the next day.
If you run out of thanks, then save that page in a new tab and give thanks later when you have one available.
If you use them all every day you are doing it correctly.

Nonetheless, requests should be placed in this thread.

Well I just joined and can not contribute to any of the conversations I would like to contribute to because I do not have 10 posts yet so I guess you can count me as unsatisfied at the moment.. I can't even comment on stuff in the marketplace? So I'm forced to contribute BS to conversations I don't care about to get 10 posts so I can join the discussions I want to join. There seems like there has to be a better way.

Give it time and you'll be able to contribute knowledge that the devs don't get to. While they're making sweet roms for us to use the rest of is are here to help others get to know how they work and contribute fixes for people who get unlucky and brick there phones. Would have to agree with you kentu3. MOst of the questions have already been answered if you search.
Another thing that I do before posting a question about ROM "xyz" is to read the whole thread on that rom. You would be or not be suprised as to how many times the same question gets asked.
Thanks again kentu3 for this thread, and a big thanks to the DEV's and MOD's who make this site worth visiting
Hi! New here. I for one like the 10 post rule because it helps keeping it clean and when you surpass the limit you have proven yourself worthy.
Coming from a wide range of other communities, also as admin or moderator, I instantly knew XDA's rule was brilliant. Looking forward to contributing in any way I can.
Now I'm gonna try and find out how to find this Thanks-button in XDA app

It is quite an ad-heavy site unless you use a blocker of some description. There's also a mammoth amount of content. I've seen a lot of people mention load times as a downfall, but to be honest I don't notice it taking any longer than some of the other tech sites I frequent
Load times are such a subjective thing though, everyone will differ. What browser do you use? Firefox seems to pop up a lot re: slow load times.
Well I typically do most of my surfing at work, which I use IE right now. Don't have much of a choice. I downloaded Firefox a while back but it never worked right. Not sure if it's because of the firewall or whatever here, (I have no idea how that all works) but Firefox was terrible. I tried to get Chrome but it's blocked too.
The slowness to me isn't really a huge deal, just curious why as other forums I frequent load pretty fast. But the more I surf around here, there is a TON of info.

I use IE (6) at work too Ed, and it's noticeably (horribly) slower than Chrome at home. Likewise, all other options are restriced here for me.
For personal use at home, the latest Chrome with Ad Blocker Pro (free) works extremely well at speeding up the genera;l browsing experience here at XDA. It is a resource-heavy forum so it still takes a little longer to load, but that's the price I pay for the wealth of information here, to me personally anyway
Could be worse, I was on 56k at home until last year when they upgraded our RIM (out in woop-woop)
As a tip to all new XDA members, and as a way of saying thanks, I'd like to point out some of the most helpful and knowledgeable GNex Senior Members.
There are about a dozen or so who come to mind, but the two who really stand out (IMO) are efrant and Jubakuba. If you're brand new and trying to get up to speed on the gnex, I suggest you do searches on their names and read their excellent tutorials and messages. These two go out of their way to help new users without flaming them, and have incredible patience.
Also remember to hit the thanks button and/or the donate button on the messages that help you the most. It's easy to forget (I've done it, too) but it only takes a second and it helps keep them motivated to continue.
If anyone else wants to mention someone they think deserves some praise, by all means do so. There are several others on the tip of my tongue, but I don't want to forget anyone, so I'll leave it to others.
So read, read, read what they've taken the time and effort to write. It's the fastest way to learn what you need to know about the Galaxy Nexus, and it will answer 90% of the questions people come here to ask. And you won't get flamed nearly as much.
I deserve props! I am the Team BAMF mascot, after all.

Well, all I know is I learned a lot from your tutorials and Jubakuba's tutorial, and it sure beats wading through an ocean of information and misinformation to be found elsewhere. Unlike magazine articles thrown together to meet a deadline, etc., they're accurate, complete, and kept up-to-date. Real windfall of info for the uninitiated. So I thought I'd point others in the right direction. Besides, it didn't hurt and didn't cost me anything, so why not?
Man, I watched you answer a whole string of messages from some guy the other day that would have driven anyone else bonkers, and carry it all the way to a successful resolution. Never once did I sense a desire on your part to throttle anyone or break something. Wish I had half your patience.

All of the E4GT touch devs...thanks for all the software and tips that made being on Sprint a bearable experience. Crawj, sfhub, QBking, Agat, Sextape, rwilco12, venom, datajosh, and everybody else....thanks!
I have sold my device back to sprint and I recently bought the RAZR Maxx on Verizon. I travel ALOT for my job and the nationwide sprint network was just too terrible as far as data and cell coverage, its sad because Sprint was my first cell company 10 years ago....smh.
I'll probably get the RAZR HD when it comes out..I know i could've waited...but my sprint situation reached critical mass...and I HAD to switch. You guys are all rockstars from mars...rock on dudes...rock on. :good::good:

OK I try to avoid these conversations and not respond. But come on. This is the General section. He is not trolling with some worthless garbage that many people tend to post. He is saying goodbye to a community that he has been a part of and thanking people at the same time. He has not attacked, harassed or complained about anything. He has not posted something that has been posted 100 times. And he has posted in the correct location. So if he wishes to express himself so be it. If you don't like what he is posting move on. There is no need to disrespect someone for sharing their thoughts and/or feelings.
If I left for another phone I would probably do the same thing. Because it is a community. I try to help people in my community, be it virtual or real, in any way that I can. So I don't see anything off the wall with someone saying goodbye to their community and showing gratitude for anyone that has helped them. Yes the thanks button works and yes I use it all the time. But sometimes a written message, that takes an effort to write out and that shows a thanks coming directly from you, is much better than a click of a button.
I think we should all lighten up a bit. Sometimes we take things way to serious.
YeaH!
It's only polite to say good-bye. If anyone's "trolling" it's the naysayers in this thread. The old adage, "if you don't have anything nice to say, shut the Phuck up!" Holds true here! :silly:
Give the guy break....wave good-bye and move on. Jeesh!

I would like to agree and I would back every word written above.
As a member of this community who tries to do something for our phones (I won't call myself a dev yet) I really like to see some posts and not just the tnank you count. It helps me to keep up with what I'm doing and continue doing it.
It shows me that my work is needed and wanted and IMHO without that feeling I don't know how long I would of done all this.
And I can't imagine a single person who would not appreciate simple warm words and a "thank you" message for work done and for effort and time invested in something.
And one question at the end.
This is general section for anything and everything a member whants to say or share.
What is wrong with expressing ones opinion and feeling or posting some "Thank you" words here?
Well maybe we should start a poll? I have zero talent in this area so if someone else could do that i would hit their thank you button. I don't have a thanks button.....but thanks OP.
I changed my theme just so I could provide Thanks!
When you really want to thank someone, you do it one on one so you can look them in the eye, shake their hand, or even pm someone so they really understand you mean it.When you do it in a room full of people it's called grandstanding. You get to tell your story and then others can look at you and go "ain't that nice" so it's actually for the person saying thank you not for the person being thanked. So it's more of a drama thing than anything else. Not that i meant that's what the op was doing, I'm sure he\she was genuine.
Banter is just that.....it goes back and forth. Kind of like a volley in tennis. However, I was raised to praise in public and criticize in private. To each their own...:good:

Good to see you back and i hope your new device is working well. Can you explain the meaning of the picture to me? Am i supposed to hate batman or does he hate me or how does that work, I'm so confused. I will hit your thanks button.

If everyone that switched phones or carriers started a thread like this we would have a ton of crap to search through to find any useful info. Wouldn't just hitting the thanks button once in a while be just as good? I mean unless somebody cured cancer are we not really just blank faces here anyhow?

Wtf? Why do people feel the need to post these threads. Nobody cares that you bought a new phone. Hope jay closes this trash.
Are you serious??
Id sooner hope Jay handed a 'vacation' out
to people who would trash his heartfelt goodbye and thank you then want to see true appreciation removed... but thats just me...
