Ok, Im getting tired of having to thank Stericson in almost everyone one of my posts but here we go again. Stericson is going to be covering the transaction fee on the donations for the first $200 donated and I will cover anything above that up to $400. Normally Paypal takes 2.9% plus $0.30 but thanks to Stericson this wont be an issue.
Total Donations next competition: $85.00
Total Donations for 2/12 - 3/13: $750.00

2/27/09 - UPDATE
We are still hammering out the final details of judging but here are the provisional judging guidelines. All categories will not be based on points but rather other entries. The judges will pick their favorites in each category and we will assign them points based on the competition (think car racing, who cars how fast a car is, its about who beats who). The winner will take 10 points, second gets 5 points, and third through fifth will get 3 points down to 1 point. Then we will take all the themes that have received points and they will compete for the judges overall favorite. The winners for the judges votes will receive half of the overall vote for winner. The other half will come from the general public, 25% from donors and 25% from everyone (including judges, competitors, and donors).
Judging Categories
1) Artistic - This will include use of colors, consistency, icons, status bars, status icons, slider bar, etc. This is purely for the graphical side and yes some technical things will fall into this category.
2) Creative - This is for doing something new or original, hopefully someone does something that becomes a must-have for the next generation of themes.
3) Technical - For anything requiring above and beyond editing of the theme. This would typically mean xml or hex editing.
4) Overall - This is for our overall favorite. Sometimes a theme doesn't win by being the most technical or artistic, sometimes its possible to win by stealing our hearts or pushing the envelope.
The burden of making sure the judges appreciate your theme will lie in the hands of the competitors. It is advised to submit lots of screenshots, a list of modifications, and anything else you deem necessary to to truly appreciate your work. Normally I would not allow this type of information to be submitted with the entries in fear of it tainting the opinion of the judges but I think because theming with the G1 is so new that even the most knowledgeable judges may need a walkthrough to see and appreciate all of your hard work.
doooshty is the man making this contest possible, if you have questions or comments please direct them to him. I am just here to help doooshty get this whole thing going.
Rules:
No previously released themes, this goes against the push for innovation I hope to achive during this contest.
Designer has the choice to work in whatever enviornment he chooses...however RC33/ADP1.1 are the prefered choices as they are the most widely adopted releases.
The contest will last for one month from the start date. All themes must be recieved by midnight US/Pacific time on the final day to be entered in the voting. NO exceptions will be made. END DATE IS MARCH 13TH
The prize for this competition will depend on donations we receive, it will however be atleast $100 plus Stericson and I will pay the Paypal fees. The winner will receive 65%, second place will receive 15%, third place 10%, and XDA gets 10%.
The themes will be scored based on three catagories. Innovation/Originality(25% of final score), Technical Difficulty(25% of final score), and popular vote(50% of final score. If you are interested in being a judge let send me a private message and let me know. Judges are not able to compete, so any theme makers looking to sit this one out I can use your help as a technical judge.
All themes must be stable enough to run flashed to a phone and be useable.
Teams are allowed, however it will be limited to 2 members per team in order to keep the amount of themes up. I may do a larger team competition in the future however.
Judging:
When the contest ends we will get screenshots posted of all the themes so everyone can see the entrants and then we will provide download links to all the judges and donors. After the judges and donors have a week the themes will be posted for you guys to vote on and then after giving you guys a week to vote we will declare 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place. Note: We are not a big company or something doing this. I have 2 full time jobs and a new puppy so I dont want to make any promises on how long this part will take but I assure you it will be done ASAP, just bare with me.
Most of the judging will be done by carefully selected judges that have shown expertise or above average knowledge of themes and the Android operating system. These chosen judges will be responsible for 50% of the total vote. This is to ensure nothing is overlooked and fine details are noticed.
The remaining 50% will be split into 25% vote for donors (to encourage people to vote) and 25% to the general populous. This means that the donors will get 2 votes, one in the donors 25 percentile and one vote in the general percentile so donors votes will count for double a non-donors vote. Again, this is to encourage you guys to get involved.
so we can use whatever icons we want and have complete freedom on this? Also where do we submit our themes do and how do we cite our sources if we use icons from somewhere online?
Im not the one to answer these questions, I am just a middle man, but I would assume you can use whatever icons you want but Innovation/Originality is only 25% of the judging and Im sure icons will only account for a small portion of that so using stock icons wont hurt you but using custom ones may help.
And please cite sources to be on the safe side.....unless its my theme stuff, then have at it. lol
Donated. Good luck to all!
Wow, its up to $180 already!
I am in for this one, can competitors donate?
You certainly can, it will make you try harder so you can get your money back.
I am interested in competing in this competition, I am new to this forum and have never themed the G1, however if anybody wants a team member with a great expertise in Photoshop/Web Design, that has the technical skills to apply those images/ideas to the theme PM me.

This is exactly what I was hoping to see...designer giving attention to the G1 that they normally wouldn't have. This is one of the things that excites me most=)
Also...I have decided that there will be no limit on the prize for the first competition. 10% of the total prize will still be donated to the wonderful xda-developers.com as a thank you for the community they provide. Thank you for everyone who has donated so far. It means a lot to me that there are other people out there who believe in what this can accomplish other than me. Maybe if we raise enough money and get enough exposure, google will take notice and realize that this is something MANY people are interested in. I dream of a day when we have the ability to change our themes on the fly. I would love to see something similar to WindowBlinds or IconPackager on the G1...Maybe someday=)
Until then I am very happy with what we have available=)
Also...
Everyone who donates gets an early release of the theme of thier choice. After the judges have had time to evaluate the themes, members who have donated will be able to preview the theme and offer feedback/likes & dislikes to the judges. While they won't get to vote directly for the main prize, they will be able to preview the theme before general release and provide valuable feedback to the judges.
Depending where we end up on donations I may have a donator's choice award for 20 dollars or something. We'll see how it plays out.
Thanks again to EVERYONE involved. This little idea I had has grown larger and faster than I thought it would. The community amazes me everyday.

You can use whatever icons you like, just please get permission and credit them for it (If you win big...you may want to throw them a bone, but that's up to you)
As far as where to submit your themes I am working on these details right now. Member Sethrd has make a post about hosting files for theme developers...I have sent him a message seeing if we can work something out. I have had some external theme and wallpaper sites offer to host the contest, however while I appreciate it, I want to keep as much of this on XDA is possible and do not wish to pull traffic away from this site.
As far as citing your sources...I would ask that you create a text file or something just listing this info. I know many developers have said they don't mind people using thier icons and what not, however most require that you ask and cite them as a source. Make sure you thank them as well=)
I finally have a day off work on Saturday...so I hope to fill in many of the missing information them. Happy Themeing(sp?)!
I haven't donated money, but I have donated hosting to all themes and everything submitted. Best of luck to everyone!

Thanks again! It's appreciated!
Donated. I can't wait to see the great stuff you guys are working on!
Good luck to all.
Well ill be done way before the 13th because i am almost done, good luck to all the other themers in the comp.
you're almost done? Dang man! I'm still making icons for the status bar lol
Just put it on your phone and use it for a couple days. Im sure you will find ways of making improvements.
I'm just about done as well just adding the finishing touches, maybe we should shorten the dead line so we can start allowing other users to use the themes we're creating. Also, maybe we should post screens of our work in a single thread for the competition similar to the "All Dream Themes" post.
I think you guys should allow the Theme to be published to XDA once it has been submitted to doooshty, the rule would be that any improvements beyond that point would not be able to count towards the competition.

once the icons for the status bar are done i'll do that, but I'm building everything from scratch it's a fun little experiment and also the only way I can get what I want out of my theme, I'm going all out on this one lol
Hey XDA! Relatively new guy here, I'm hopefully getting my Venue Pro this week and am planning on comparing and contrasting a bunch of different applications for photos. So I wanted all of you that have had the phones for sometime to recommend some photo apps that you'd like to see dissected for your viewing pleasure. Feel free to list as many as you want. I'm looking forward to being an active member of XDA
I just made an app to expose more pro like video features out of the latest ICS+ devices. I developed this app with a HTC One S. However I quickly realized that Samsung devices hate this app so far. A buddies Note II choked on it as well as a SIII user who truly wanted to try the app out. I took it off the Play Store and I'm bringing it here to iron out the issues first with Samsung devices. I would be willing to bug fix for other devices as normal afterwards. Please visit http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2230563 for my first post to the APK. Thanks.
You can try elusivestars.com - I am offering between 5 and 25 Free reviews. You can select devices based on Brand, Model, OS version...
It is a commercial site, but for the free reviews you do not have any commitment and no credit card is needed.

Hey people,
I would like to introduce a small interest project I'm working on right now, the Playbarter
This app is best for whoever frequently posting on trading forum to trade in-game items like equipment in Team Fortress 2, skin in Dota 2 and etc.
It's a snap & post app for virtual item listing which you want to trade for. You can post in any game items as long as the game
allows exchange of virtual items. Please note that it is system barter or giveaway, no selling of in game item pls!
Head towards the link below to try it now, it's free to use and what so ever (I'm not making money out of it, buy me a beer perhaps?)
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.playbarter.playbarter
Some screenshots:
FEEDBACK IS WELCOMED!
This is really interesting stuff! Thanks!
Maybe you should ask a mod to move this to the more general "Android Apps/Games" section which would get you a wider audience!
Sent from my GT-I9300
Thanks for the support, so far it is not really getting adequate exposure anywhere.
So I'm just trying my luck posting it here
Just came across this web site while looking for horizontal 1080p wallpapers. Clearly, by the website name, they were intended for the Galaxy S4, obviously, since it is the popular device.
Figured I would share it with you all as I have found it increasingly difficult to find portrait 1080p wallpapers for my HTC One.
http://www.wallpapersforgalaxys4.com/
I, of course, take 0 credit for any of this. Merely sharing the link.
Happy personalizing
LOL how many wallpaper threads must there be?
Sent from my METAL PHONE not some plastic phone bloated phone
Galaxy s4 walls, you should be banned for this lol just kidding
