I have the problem where if I leave my phone in one place for about 5-10 minutes I can't make a call. The phone has gone up to 6 hours without a problem while I did my daily business. I've taken hour long drives from one town to another without a problem.
Most folks have a problem where they can't get a signal or signal drop. My problem is the signal bars tell me i have a signal 3 to 4 bars. No matter what though i can't receive or make a call. Doesn't matter where I move the signal bars stay "stuck". Something jams up or whatever manages the phone signal crashes. Airplane mode doesn't have an effect, if i restart the phone it comes on with airplane mode activated.
I've install WajkIUI 1.9.16 with similiar results. I'm running Jboogies3 mod. It solved my reboot issue oddly enough so I've stuck to it. I'm a 2G area only. I use baseband swticher. Even without the baseband the signal gets stuck.
Any advise would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
i have the same problem!
I've tried different combinations of roms and nothing has hit yet. I was told it was a software issue. What app controls the signal?
When i force quit the Dialer app it also shuts down the radio.
Bad sim?
Maybe try flashing an SBF, like the new nordic or 2.2.2 3.4.2-179 CEE Deblur
I've been around the world with defy roms. I feel at this point its a complete lost. Also If I have data on when the phone jams up and try a web program. The data icon seem to act like its trying to send something out.
I do have a question about the baseband switcher. When you change the baseband. Is the info in "About phone" under baseband suppose to change?
I was using an iPhone 3G on the Fido network and switched to Bell on Thursday to get the Galaxy Nexus. This is my first Android phone, already own a Xoom.
Since buying the phone I have noticed a reoccurring issue with my signal. I leave my phone next to me when I go to bed and when I wake up I notice that I have zero bars and when I try to make an outgoing call the phone says I am in airplane mode (but I am not). Also none of my apps say they have data and my e-mail hasn't been updating.
I haven't figured out the best way to get a signal working again, but so far it appears to regain signal when I start using it for a few min or if I restart the phone.
While I am awake the phone sits next to me with full bars only 5 feet from where it rests overnight.
Anyone else encounter this issue? Is Android trying to save battery by weakening my signal and therefore cutting it off entirely? Possible defective device? Issue with Bell's signal although I seem to have full bars otherwise?
thx guys
I have the same issue. Flashed different radios and roms but still the same thing.
I've read similar issues with other people on Bell Canada.
Wonder if it's a problem with Bell.
Same Here
just finally noticed this here too in NYC on T-Mobile phone bought unlocked from UK. I remember having similar problem with my nexus one thou it was eventually fixed but as it was then now I can fix it with a restart.

Well with this only being released on Bell/Virgin in Canada it is hard to tell if the issue is network or device related
This is usually a SIM issue. Try someone else's to test, or just ask your Carrier for a new one.
In the meantime you can toggle Airplane Mode to bring your signal back.
Here are some example screenshots. In these cases my signal drops & returns very quickly without me doing anything.

I gotta run some more tests on my phone after an extended period of inactivity, but trying airplane mode last time freaked it out. It already thought it was in airplane mode when I tried to make a call. I had no signal, it said please turn off airplane mode, went to the setting, it was off, so I turned it on. I then tried turning it off, but while the check box responded the airplane logo would not go away in the statusbar. I had to reboot the device.
Hey Guys,
same problem here in germany. Signal drops when i leave the phone alone. But not every time. Over night the signal stays all the time.
sometimes even a reboot does not solve the problem... it drives me insane!
I'm also on Bell and on my second GNex. The first one had that issue as well, along with horizontal streaking on the screen so I returned it. I'll keep you posted if this handset also drops signal.

As a heads up to this topic, there is a similar issue with Airplane mode turning itself on. The low signal/no signal issue and airplane mode might be related. The thread is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1387943. There is also an "issue" opened with Google about it.
To throw in my two cents, I've also noticed this issue occuring infrequently in nyc with tmo. Usually during the day at work the signal will drop down even though the phone hasn't moved. Usually it comes back but I have had fairly longer delays going from no signal areas to signal areas, sometimes 60-120 secs before the device recognizes the signal. I'm wondering if this is a result of the device polling for signal less often to conserve battery power.
Keep the information coming! This is how we work out the real bugs!
this is driving me insane. I want to throw my GN right against the next wall. Signal drops and does not come back. I have to switch to 2G to regain my connectivity.
flight mode doesn't help, reboot doesn't help, switching all data off doesn't work.
What the f* is going on here? is it a provider based problem? or is it due to a conflict with ICS or anything? if it lasts i'll switch back to my good old desire ...
forgot to say: switched radio today, doesnt bring any improvement. Tried the xxkk6 and the newest UGKK7. Back to xxkk6 now.

UGKK7 isn't the newest. UGKL1 is.
Ive had the same exact issues as well. Have had a thread open for quite some time too.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1365389
I tried UGKL1 last night and finally thought I had it working but still doing it.
I flashed Modaco lr6 this morning and haven't seen the issue since.
Before the flash, it would lose signal everytime it went to sleep
Is anyone here still having issues with the Galaxy going into Airplane mode after the phone is left in idle mode for hours? If my phone is left idle for a long time it goes into airphone mode and I have to restart the device to be able to make and receive calls. It's strange because I transferred my T-Mo account onto a new SIM card when I purchased my GNex.
I seriously hope this isn't a hardware related issue because I would be without a phone again...
This thread is a better resource to go to for the airplane issue:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1387943
My issue was also connection drops. I since replaced my SIM card & Nexus. No more frequent connection issues. I can confirm that I still get the airplane issue, but because I am not losing my connection frequently, the airplane issue only happened once since mid December.

I'm seeing weirdness as well - when I come out from under the subway, I can't get back a signal. Going to have to revert to stock (uuuuugggggggggh) and see if it persists.
I have the same issue and it happens nearly every night. I wake up in the morning with no signal and once I reboot I receive all of my messages etc. I am not sure if it started happening since I rooted and flashed Revolution HD but either way it is extremely irritating.
I have had this problem since I got my phone mid December. Over the past week it has become worse. I was anxiously awaiting the 4.0.2 upgrade.
I just upgraded to 4.0.2 yesterday, but unfortunately my signal dropped a few minutes ago. Grrrrrr, I had hoped that 4.0.2 would solve the issue, but apparently it doesn't. Maybe 4.0.3 will do the trick, but I don't expect this to be released very soon as they are rolling out 4.0.2 just now.
Android version 4.0.2
Baseband Version: I9250XXKK6
Kernel Version: 3.0.8-gaaa2611

Build Number: ICL53F
ICS stock; non-rooted
Hey guys ready for a weird one? So the other day I turned on WiFi on my SIII to use the university's WiFi instead of my data like i usually do, and when it was time to turn off WiFi, I lost complete signal for data and cell reception. It was weird, so did the usual trouble shooting stuff (checking if data is on, roaming off, wifi off, correct APN)and everything there was fine. So i turned off data and turned it back on, still nothing, i turned on airplane mode, then turned it off, then it would fix the problem....for a little. After a little while the same problem would occure. So I decide to reboot the phone. That too temporarly fixes the problem. So when I got home, I did a factory reset. again, temporary fix. So then I decide to install a new rom, so I install the latest build of CM10. Fixes problem, then problem occurs again. Its extremely annoying, everything was working perfectly fine until the other day. I was on official ICS Stock Rom btw when the problem occured. My phone has been rooted this whole time, but that never was a problem the 3 months I've owned the phone. The problem is now occuring in CM10 as well. Anyone have any ideas as to what to do? Oh side note, when I installed CM10, I wiped everything chache data everything to make it as clean as possible. The issues are random disconnect from 4G data or rather any data reception, no SMS/MMS income or able to send,no calls. WiFi would work. Could this be a hardware problem? I've never dropped my phone or anything. This literally just randomly happened.
Yup
I am having this problem as well. Seems I loose reception. If I call my voicemail, reception returns for a bit and then turns off again and I repeat the process...my IMEI is fine, my APN seems fine, I don't understand what the problem is. I have tried multiple roms and continue to have this issue?

I have the same exact problem!
Similar things happened to me out of the blue about 3 weeks back. Dropping data, no connection to network, calls take 4 or 5 tries to go through sometimes, sms is flakey. I went back to stock 4.1.1 and still happened.
Went to phone store (Telus) and got a new sim. Didn't really help. Now phone is in the shop under warranty and I have a loaner HTC One S :-\
When I was around a strong cell signal it seemed better. My thoughts are that one of the power amplifiers is not working properly or at all. I will probably never really know.
Hello everyone,
I have a Xiaomi Mi 10T Lite which I use as a secondary phone.
I'm experiencing a serious issue which happens randomly during the day:
all of a sudden, especially after long sleeps, the phone seems completely isolated from the mobile network making it impossible to send/receive calls, although showing data coverage.
What I noticed during one of this episodes in the #*#*4636*#*# menu is that the phone is trying to connect to the preferred network NR/LTE/TDSCDMA/GSM/WCDMA.
Switching that to GSM/WCDMA/LTE (PRL) revives the connectivity.
Any idea on how this can happen?
Thank you
I too am face the similar issues. I am running PixelExperience 12.1. I use two India SIMs with WiFi calling support.
As you mentioned, after long sleeps, the phone is not able to make calls or connect to receiving calls. Sometime, the call gets disconnected as soon as we answer and won't be able to call back. If the phone connects, the call is completely silent. Disconnecting and calling back works sometimes but most times, call doesnt go through. Putting it on flight mode and back sometimes makes it work. Sometimes restarting makes it work. Either way, its really frustrating.
I tried look at logcat output but I am not able to figure out what is going wrong because of the volume of things happening at that time.
Which is the OS version and firmware you are on? Stock MIUI? Or custom rom?
Having an odd series of issues that might be device-specific (Pixel 3), but definitely isn't a problem with my hardware, as that was recently replaced and had the same issue.
Basically, what I see is:
- For 1-3 days after a reboot, the phone works perfectly. Data works as intended. Calls work as intended. My office area always sits on full bars, LTE.
- After a few days, suddenly I have no ability to make calls...but I can receive them fine. If I try to call anyone, it just sits on the dialing screen for 1-5 minutes and then hangs up or dials. Inbound calls are instantaneous and there are no data issues.
- When the dialing issue occurs, if I watch the signal meter, it will be full bars LTE, then 3G, then H+, then it will either dial or will briefly say there's no signal and hang up...the moment it hangs up, it goes back to LTE and data works fine again.
- Either rebooting the phone or turning on/off airplane mode will fix the problem for 1-3 more days.
- This issue happens even if I switch over to wifi calling and am on good wifi signal, which makes it even stranger!
- I've reinstalled and updated LOS a few times since this began and issue persists. I've tried with wifi on/off, wifi calling on/off, different locations, etc. I even briefly tried the official Google dialer app, as I had been using the stock LOS one. No change.
