Hi all,
I'm using CM7.2 lately and I love it! eoghan2t7 dropped out a new speed kernel which is more efficient than before. However I'm still having issues with the autofocus in the camera. I felt that the pictures I made aren't as clear as I used to. Than I realized the problem when I tried to read a QR code and the camera couldn't focus well on the target. This makes reading QR codes impossible.
Haven't seen anybody complaining about this in the forums. Am I the only one?
I've used cm 7.2 for some time now, and I've never encountered those kind of problems. Have you checked your camera app settings? There are few focus related settings there, maybe it's just not set properly?

Everyone complains about the camera functions under CM7. Don't believe me? Just Google it.
Hands down, the best drivers for our camera are the stock HTC apks.
Thanks for the reply!
Well I'm not the one who always taking picture with cellphone, but it's still annoying. The latest nightly seemed to alright but I also experienced worst battery life, while with sense, it lasted 1,5 times more. So I'm back to m1ndh4x8r Sense 2.1 GB 3.5.
Waiting for an official stable release for CM 7 and 9! Cheers

I know that CM7 is a great rom, but are there any cons or known bugs in everyday usage?

It's stable and has a good battery life, I haven't encountered any bugs and judging by the change log RC1 has everything solved except 720p recording which isn't even a stock feature but an improvement.
I'm curious also, so you're saying every feature that works on stock (minus motoblur) will also work as it should (or better) under CM7 ?
There's nothing like no wi-fi or gps not working or anything at all ?

I use Wifi daily, and have tested GPS briefly - no problems for me. I've actually found Wifi to work better than in my original t-Mobile 2.1 ROM.

There are plenty of dialers on the market. I opted for Dialer One, though it's quite an overkill, all the options it has. Ray Dialer is cool as well, a bit lighter and faster. Both have T9 and are free even.
Main bug is flicker when recording video... jumps when playing back as well.
But it's got awesome battery life and speed!

A very good thread!
So far, we always heard about pros on CM7. Now, we can get opposite info in one thread. It's good for developer and user. Long live to CM7!
It's better than the stock roms in every way.
My quadrant on UK stock 2.2 was 900. On CM7 it's 2200
Gallery (4 photos then crash, no picasa albums), facebook (did not sync properly) and unexpected 100% processor usage -> battery drain are other reasons to ditch stock roms and go fo CM7.
The defy is a fantastic phone, once you take the motorola software off it!

i know that, but i spoke one con of CM7... almost others roms have this function and i don't know why haven't on CM7... should be have a option to enable/disable... how knows in future releases... ;D
cm7 is realy great
its best
thx very much Quarx
i hope Quarx make cm7 for atrix too
i recently installed rc1 and the only bug ive noticed is laggy video recording (playback is flawless - not the laggy recorded one - even in hd). and when booting in android, launcherpro force closes, but after a restart it works fine. cm7 is really a superb rom, would never go back motos ****ty sw...

Aside from poor camera and video recording performance, CM7 is better in every way than moto's ROM. I'm sure quarx and co. will fix those bugs real soon.
CM7 is the best ROM running under Android 2.3.4 but it's main problem is the battery consumption (it's just draining two, even three times faster than Froyo) In other every aspect, it's just awesome.
This is why I get twitchy about installing anything.
Person A says ' oh the battery life is awesome'
Person B says 'its got a big battery problem'
Who to believe....
Been using CM7 for more than a month already I think. I started with Beta6. Currently on a nightly earlier than RC1. Only a few things that I noticed that are not so good.
- Camera quality is not as good
- Video camera recording skips frames
It seems like most issues are with the camera. Speed is good with CM7.
I noticed that if battery life is not as good all that is needed is to check that you have the correct baseband set and to reboot the phone if you already have the correct baseband.
I have never had any issues with wifi or 3g so far. GPS I dont really use.
Hope that helps
Caveat emptor: It makes your Defy runs faster and more updated and deny you the opportunity to explain to your spouse the rationale of buying a new phone every 12-month.
Man, isn't that hideous?
Hmm no one else reported any GPS issue, so I guess it's just me. It's not able to find and lock my position. Will have to look into it. Currently on Beta 6

mine battery life is great
if u set network on 2g
use auto task killer
and display time out to 15 sec
and with normal use . battery use about 2.5 - 3 days for mine
The bugs I found are the auto brightness not stable & video recording can't turn on the flash light, others all perfect for me,including battery life(same as Froyo) & GPS locked within 10s under clear sky
*I am using full sbf from the official Froyo 2.2 SEA18,just flash the RC1 & gapps then good to go
I'm wondering which if any of the available ICS roms include a camera.apk mod that addresses both silent mode and the ability to start the camera while in call.
Pretty much all custom ROM cameras can do that. I know Calkulins does, mine does, and I believe Agats does also.
Just tried it with mine, which is based of Calkulins, which I believe Agats is based off of also.

I've been a happy camper on Boa since it was released in early June. Other than the "unable to start camera during call" message I'm getting - which from what I researched is par for stock ICS camera.apk - Boa's performance for me has been rock solid. For now I'm happy to wait for the camera mod to appear in a subsequent release. Thanks for you feedback!
Well you should be fine just swapping out the camera.apk there's little chance that it's going to effect the rom or it's performance at all. If it does, just swap it back out to the one that came with Boa. Personally I'd say it's worth trying, take about a minute and it's 100% reversible. You're phone, you're call though. I understand
Ok I am confused why don't you just download ICS Camera or Camera ICS + from the market and try these features you desire on there. I know there are silent sound options and the camera works just fine.... I may be missing something so if I am I apologize
I would assume he just didn't know about them. Or he was looking for a more integrated solution as opposed to a third party app. I prefer an integrated solution if I can have it. Not sure if it performs better or not, just personal preference.

Okay I'll fill in the missing pieces and hopefully clear up your confusion. I'm a former technology professional, so when I initially encountered "unable to start camera during call" on my original Epic - about a year before I first rooted - it felt like I had taken a step back since I was able use the camera "in call" on both my Samsung Instinct and my Palm Pre. I immediately called my best iPhone friend who confirmed that he could take a pic in call - which itself was irritating - so I figured that it was an android thing until another friend confirmed that he could take a pic in call with his Evo. Almost a year later I stumbled upon this world and rooted my Epic, and shortly thereafter bought my E4GT which I immediately rooted. UnNamed was the first rom I flashed that fixed the camera in call problem, and as you know, UnNamed is basically flawless so I never bothered with any other gb roms. I've been following the ICS dev threads for a while and decided about a month ago that I was ready to start searching for an UnNamed replacement. I have Camera 360 and Camera FV-5 on my phone, but to KCRic's point, it's my personal preference that the native camera app be at least on par with my 3 previous phones.
The similar threads weren't of any help on this issue from what I could tell, and I'm sure it's something that's a straight forward answer, but I really just wanted to know if there's any way to fix my camera on my G2. The issue I'm having is that while using the Un-Official CM9-RC2 build I'm having serious issues with the camera taking a bit low quality images from time to time, as well as being unable to scan in bar codes due to the fact that it's unable to auto-focus, or even focus on anything for that matter.
If more information needs to be provided, I'll be glad to. I don't consider myself an expert on Android development, so excuse me for this question. Thanks!

First of all you are on an unofficial cm build so you should no get every thing working perfect, try clearing camera data in settings if it does not help
then its certainly your rom but also try clearing cache if it still does not go then maybe you have to change the rom, there are many roms that have camera working in good shape check the developer section an un-official CM will not help always read the details of rom before downloading them every rom has its good and bad so its your choice looking at the kind of roms here i dont think CM is gonna help some dev use them as a base to build stable roms try those
you can try andromadus audacity or mimicry ics and for sense try gen y visionx there are sooo many good roms out there why stick to un -official ones HOPE I HELPED

(The quoted post was edited for more clarity and understanding while I was trying to read over it.)
The camera app doesn't have any cache, I did clear the data but the problem still persists. I'll consider using another ROM, however I do believe it's mainly the camera drivers for ICS for G2 that are just rubbish at the moment though. I was mainly seeing if anyone had any fixes or recommendations besides just switching.

You're right, the quality won't be as good in ICS as it was in GB. I can't say the same for JB, but for ICS we need(ed) major changes/rewrites to the camera drivers in general.
Developers tried tirelessly to get the camera codes from Qualcomm, not sure they gave them out so the dev had to work around it. But some sense ics roms have very good camera quality and HD video . I am on gen y vision X you can try that

Any recommendations for ics roms I'm leaning towards mimicry since I want as much speed and stability as possible. I've been on glite for along time so performance and stability is a huge plus!
I prefer non sense roms with overclocking ability. being pretty it's a plus but not a must. I def want the most stable camera and I don't mind having to tweak out a bit. Any advice?

I think you're on the right track with Mimicry. In my experience it's been very stable, smooth, an fast. It's meets all your criteria. By default it's overclocked to 1.2 GHz, and has the option to install V6 Supercharger. I'd highly recommend it. As for pretty, Sonny Sekhon makes some incredible ISC/JB themes. Also, all ICS ROMs for the Vision have issues with 3rd party camera apps due to missing drivers. In my experience the stock camera works just fine.
I don't mind the stock camera, since frankly I have other camera apps I've never even run lol. does the stock camera do panoramic pics?

Yeah, I thought I'd miss all my camera applications, but at this moment in my life the stock camera completely suffices. I haven't used the panorama option, but... yes, it's appears (just checked it) to be working... I've been using Mimicry for several months now and I'm still excited about it. I was a long time ILWT (CM7) user and I never thought an ICS ROM could compare, but Mimicry truly does. I actually flashed back to GB a couple weeks ago - just to see - and I missed blk_jack's ROM immediately. If you take a look at some of the other "best ICS ROM" threads I think you'll see that a huge population are loving Mimicry. Good luck!
killj0y, I had the same dillema, but was using stock rom.
Friend of mine that already was testing other roms told me to experiment with Andromadus, and especially with Mimicry http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1714187
With latest radio it's just very good concerning the 'out of the box' installation experience.
The only problems were with camera, but I never experienced any issues because I use default campera app, and the only program that was giving weird effects was Google Goggles.
The lack of drivers for camera is annoying when recording video, 480p only.
Recently I started to experiment with Andromadis JellyBean development builds, they they got some minor issues. There still happen some camera issues, but video recording is ok @ 720p. In general it was a bit sluggish, but managed to fix that installing DataSwap - it really helps.
Just wait till Mimicry gonna switch to JellyBean and it's gonna by awesome.

Awesome I have had the latest radio for a while now since the ota so no issues there. I thought i was having the wifi dropout issue when i first booted but might have been a false alarm. Either way i have the files needed in my dropbox just in case. I hadn't thought about google goggles damn that kinda sucks but i can live with that. I was kinda bummed about the 720p but i rarely record video, but when I do i like it being the best quality i can manage since it will suck that much less lol.:good:

Hi everyone,
For last few months I've been on a journey through many roms on my gf's Virgin cdma one V. She wasn't happy with the performance of stock rom as it was really very slow at times, sometimes taking up to 8 seconds for a response to a keypress.
Anyway, I (in my foolish way) said "don't worry babe, there's bound to be a lot of roms out there that will speed your phone up nicely". Well, there are, but so far each one has some sort of issue that causes my gf to complain to me lol. As i stated the phone is on the latest hboot, 1.57 i think it is, so I know there are bound to be issues because of that.
But can anyone suggest a rom or roms that will work reasonably smoothly and are fully functional? Her favorite thing to complain about is that some roms work perfectly, but the camera is useless or it will not record video. I installed one rom that seemed perfect, only to find the camera crashed if there was a face detected in the image lol. Have tried roms with 3rd party camera programs, but none seem to work reliably.
I'm not asking for the "best rom", just want one that I can install on her phone and with a straight face say "everything should work now, camera and video recording too"
Thanks in anticipation,
Gonna post here because I'm wanting suggestions as well. Recently installed Rythmic ROM and it's killing my battery
