I know that CM7 is a great rom, but are there any cons or known bugs in everyday usage?
Sent from my MB525 using XDA Premium App
It's stable and has a good battery life, I haven't encountered any bugs and judging by the change log RC1 has everything solved except 720p recording which isn't even a stock feature but an improvement.
I'm curious also, so you're saying every feature that works on stock (minus motoblur) will also work as it should (or better) under CM7 ?
There's nothing like no wi-fi or gps not working or anything at all ?

I use Wifi daily, and have tested GPS briefly - no problems for me. I've actually found Wifi to work better than in my original t-Mobile 2.1 ROM.
for me have one con - the dialer without number t9

There are plenty of dialers on the market. I opted for Dialer One, though it's quite an overkill, all the options it has. Ray Dialer is cool as well, a bit lighter and faster. Both have T9 and are free even.
Main bug is flicker when recording video... jumps when playing back as well.
But it's got awesome battery life and speed!

A very good thread!
So far, we always heard about pros on CM7. Now, we can get opposite info in one thread. It's good for developer and user. Long live to CM7!
It's better than the stock roms in every way.
My quadrant on UK stock 2.2 was 900. On CM7 it's 2200
Gallery (4 photos then crash, no picasa albums), facebook (did not sync properly) and unexpected 100% processor usage -> battery drain are other reasons to ditch stock roms and go fo CM7.
The defy is a fantastic phone, once you take the motorola software off it!

cm7 is realy great
its best
thx very much Quarx
i hope Quarx make cm7 for atrix too
i recently installed rc1 and the only bug ive noticed is laggy video recording (playback is flawless - not the laggy recorded one - even in hd). and when booting in android, launcherpro force closes, but after a restart it works fine. cm7 is really a superb rom, would never go back motos ****ty sw...

Aside from poor camera and video recording performance, CM7 is better in every way than moto's ROM. I'm sure quarx and co. will fix those bugs real soon.
CM7 is the best ROM running under Android 2.3.4 but it's main problem is the battery consumption (it's just draining two, even three times faster than Froyo) In other every aspect, it's just awesome.
This is why I get twitchy about installing anything.
Person A says ' oh the battery life is awesome'
Person B says 'its got a big battery problem'
Who to believe....
Been using CM7 for more than a month already I think. I started with Beta6. Currently on a nightly earlier than RC1. Only a few things that I noticed that are not so good.
- Camera quality is not as good
- Video camera recording skips frames
It seems like most issues are with the camera. Speed is good with CM7.
I noticed that if battery life is not as good all that is needed is to check that you have the correct baseband set and to reboot the phone if you already have the correct baseband.
I have never had any issues with wifi or 3g so far. GPS I dont really use.
Hope that helps
Caveat emptor: It makes your Defy runs faster and more updated and deny you the opportunity to explain to your spouse the rationale of buying a new phone every 12-month.
Man, isn't that hideous?
Hmm no one else reported any GPS issue, so I guess it's just me. It's not able to find and lock my position. Will have to look into it. Currently on Beta 6

mine battery life is great
if u set network on 2g
use auto task killer
and display time out to 15 sec
and with normal use . battery use about 2.5 - 3 days for mine
The bugs I found are the auto brightness not stable & video recording can't turn on the flash light, others all perfect for me,including battery life(same as Froyo) & GPS locked within 10s under clear sky
*I am using full sbf from the official Froyo 2.2 SEA18,just flash the RC1 & gapps then good to go

Hi folks,
What do you consider to be the best, fastest, most stable, battery saving, whatever Sense ROM for the Desire atm and why?
Simple question, but there are so many GB 2.1 Sense + some 3.0 Sense etc. kinda ROM's out there that it might be interesting to see which one is clearly XDA's favourite and why. What is the difference between all these ROM's and why do you use the one you flashed?
Any answers/input is highly appreciated
Feel free to discuss...
There is no best rom at all. It depends on personal preferences. Just test.

I will recommend AcesMod007, it's very fast, stable with good battery
i would thoroughly recommend insertcoin,
i have been running it for the last few weeks/month and so far i am very happy with it,
the only problem seems to be 720p video recording lag and also it stretches videos in portrait mode but they come out ok when played on pc,
apart from that i get no lag at all when using the phone, battery isnt as bad as people say and the sense 2.1/3.0 mix is rather sexy,
all taht said i would also recommend to try out a couple of roms, just remember to take a nandroid backup and revert back to a previous one if/when you wish,
Mine is surely not the best. But you can give a look: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1210178
I am on AcesMod007 (not 3d) and am also constantly searching for fastest sense rom (but must be very stable).
Previous rom was rcmix 2.0 - a GREAT rom, actually perfect for me, but I could always use less lag (esp. when scrolling), and that's why I am now trying AcesMod007.
I still cannot say it's much faster than rcmix, and it lags a little on the lock screen. On remix, lock screen never lagged (I use the normal - wallpaper one) Scrolling is much better, though.
To the future "Oh no, another best rom thread" remarks:
I like to read these threads and find them very informative. I am sure that many others do, too. Just don't join, read or reply if you don't like them. And roms are constantly evolving, especially for our beloved Desire! So a fresh start every now and then is really great imho.

Hi Sudkcoe,
I'm also on the .v32 of AcesMod007 (not 3d) and had the lag on the lockscreen too. Also had it in .v31
Today I tried the little update from PlayPetepp which pretty much eliminated the lag prob.

Hi,
Thanks for all the replies so far. I am currently on LeeDoird GB 3.0.8.2 and I really like it. It is fast, stable and together with SetCPU and Juice Defender i get easily 3-4 days of juice out of my desire
However, no Sense 3.0 And not sure how long this version will still get updates cause Lee starts focusing on his HD port and other devices...
So thats why i thought a best Sense-ROM thread might be useful, especially because there's lots of movement/developments recently and lots of ROMs look pretty similar but are so different when you flash em: So keep the feedback coming
I am still looking for my perfect Sense-ROM ^^
LeeDroid 3.3.3 HD. I've just come from AcesMod007 (v29) and have seen battery life almost double, fantastic stability, no FC's or anything. I'll be sticking with this for some time methinks.
I'll definitely check out the HD Lee Droid sometime soon. However, reports vary from awesome to a little buggy so i am not sure what to think of it yet...
I have two friends who too were on Aces007 move to this and they confirm my findings, it's extremely stable and battery life is massively improved.

I had 3 days and 8 hours on battery and like 20% left. During these 3 days, as i already stated, i didn't use it a lot except for some calls, sms and the active email sync (once an hour). I even listened to music for 5 minutes...so believe it or not. Why should i bull**** here
If you use it normally (including surfing, readings newssfeeds, listening to music) i still get 2 days easily.
I have tried most sense Roms including insertcoin, acemod but I have found sense 1.9 ROMs the quickest and most stable.
Teppics Rom is very good but the best is leedroid 3.0.8.2 as it does not lag at all.
I'm on AceSMod007-3D atm. Its all works surprisingly well and there is very little lag when simply moving about the homescreen. There's been lag with some widgets apparently but i only use weather and mail and they both seem fine. Also don't use the system restore in it. i did after screwing up my contacts and it screwed up all the A2SD+ stuff, had to uninstall and re-install all my apps to free up space on my internal again.
I use Insert Coin at the moment after using CM7 for a while.
I have seen a good improvement in responsiveness and battery life, I get through the day most of the time, but battery could still be better.

Hi,
I wonder if i should switch from CM7 to ICS/Andromadus.
is Andromadus ready for exeryday use yet? (i don't mind a few bugs, glitches or even a freeze a week. But i need a working phone)
how does it compare to CM7? (battery life, performance)
is CM9 worth a try? (there is no official build or is there?)
i've tried these three roms and know i've Andromadus beta 3
cyano 9 has got a lot of bugs and make a lot of freeze (with beta 3 i've got 3 freeze in 6 hours)
the battery with Andro goes well, nothing special but the performance are excellent
you have to try it

IMO it's an upgrade feature wise. Many system apps and functions are just more polished IMO (contacts, dialer with google voice integration, etc). Battery life is noticeably worse than CM7 but I am still able to get through a day with no issues (my CM7 battery life ranged from 28-36 hours while Andromadus seems to be more like 19-28 depending on my usage).

Andromadus merges nearly everything from CyanogenMod's ICS branch (I think). This is apparent in the system settings such as lock screen customizations, notification bar toggles, etc. YES, it's worth a try!!

Cyanogen himself has a desire z so we'll get a official build when HTC stops dragging there feet and releases the desire hd kernel source.
That aside I too was a little iffy about flashing Androdamus being that there were a lot of bugs in the earlier beta's, So I waited a few months I'm glad that I did its good enuff to be used as a daily driver now. Depending on your battery (I bought a htc extended one over a month ago) the life will vary on heavy usage I get about 4 to 5 hrs, On Moderate I get 8 plus.
Andromadus is a HUGE upgrade from CM7 not only is it a newer version of Android but everything is more organized as far as settings and features go. Flash it if u don't like it you can always go back. . .
I stuck with CM6 until a week ago, tried CM9.
(totally skipped GB).
I flashed the CM9 and Andro ROMs.
I stuck with Andro since the camera actually worked...
So far - way less battery life, laggier than CM6 (our phones don't have the HP needed it's snappy enough for everyday use, it's just... you know, it's not like a dual core 1.4GHz phone). Lots of little bugs (missed notifications? can't use google voice / gtalk voice, graphical glitches sometimes, crashing programs, hanging) but if you only use a few apps and browse simple sites / check news it's not so bad.
Since you're on XDA it's almost safe to assume this won't phase you too much. It's not "THAT" bad, but it is definitely not like a commercial release yet. Many many things being worked out BUT it's definitely "usable".
I'm still using it It's just very annoying to have to update reimport contacts etc when new versions of the ROM come out. (I don't use contact sync). It's also annoying because of the app crashes or things that "don't work" like instagram etc. However, it looks way better than froyo!
If all your looking for is pretty, just use gingerbread with an ics theme

Hi guys,
I got a Desire for testing, I'm trying to make it very stable with everything working. So I have been testing the following ROMS:
Stock (2.2): Very stable, bad energy management, no voice search, ran out of internal memory fast, you cannot switch 2G/3G easily.
Stock (2.3): Good, but wifi drops (Is there a solution for this?), voice search works.
CM7 (Any version, but I think I haven't tested the new RC2): Very good and fast, but the video app is bad I cannot play 720p MP4 (With the stock one it plays fine) I don't want to pay for a videoplayer when the stock and when a SMS is not delivered it doesn't show the option "Send again" (Yes, in some places where I got the network coverage sucks, so I need that feature), no voice search.
Oxygen: No radio FM (I use that), no send again in the sms and no 720p video player, no voice search. Fast.
Ledroid: I haven't had time to create a partition (In fact I need a faster SDCard), but if you use it, does it have voice search? Can you send again failed SMS? Radio FM? 720p video playback?
Sandvol ICS 0.7: Very fast! Good looking, no FM radio, no playback for 720p videos, didn't check about voice search and send again failed SMS. Had some crashing using the camera. I hope it keeps going to the 1.0 version.
So, will I have to create my own ROM (I wish).
Please help me.
It's easy I just want a 2.3 or ICS rom with FM radio, good video playback 720p, not bloatware, send again failed SMS, etc. Stable...!
http://forum.oxygen.im/viewtopic.php?id=2365
Android 2.3 - check.
FM support - check.
720p plaback - check.
No bloatware - check.
Everything working & stable - check.
You wont find anything better than that.

Yes to both questions.
For the longest time I have been using the ROM in my signature as my daily driver. I liked the ring lockscreen etc but:
1. 2.3 with sense 2.1 / 3.0 or hybrids of the two
Battery life, it's abysmal compared to stock gb or froyo, even leedroid was waaaaaay better. Speed is good, but there is always some lag, if you count a steamboat or two after unlocking the screen then using it the lag is minimal. Battery life though, fantastic if you don't use your phone. If you use it, epecially for calls (you know, as a phone!) you can drain it fast
2. Sense 3.5 ROMs
All the eye candy is there. Truth be told, the sense 3.5 email app, and music are pretty sweet. The new amaze camera is awesome. There is much less lag with the lock screen too. Overall though, be prepared for lags, lockups, sense restarts, reboots et al. All of the runny ROMs, and I do mean all of them run fast and smooth for a few days, then lag immensly.
3. Gingerbread "stock / old" sense 1.9 ROMs
There are a few good ones, andler, droidzone, and coolsense are a few updated ones
Battery life is great on all of them, you can actually use your phone! Storage space is a non event (I run 130 apps) on all.
After much testing, because I got tired of constanly flashing new kernels in the search for the best speed / battery life compromise with sense 2.1 ROMs, I prefer coolsense 3.0 by coolexe. This ROM is a themed "old sense (1.9)", or basically stock gingerbread with a few extras, like quick settings on the notification menu. I have been on this for 2 weeks now, no slow downs, reboots, minimal lag (same as stock gb), and has all the features you asked about. I may have to change my sig soon, I may have found my new daily driver.

Leedroid is good, but unless your comfortable tweaking on your own coolsense is more upto date.
You will need a a partioned SD card for most newer ROMs, use gparted. It is available as a bootable cd if you do not use a Linux distro.
Also, google alpha rev for mtd partions, then use fastboot manager or something similiar to quickly switch between hboots when testing ROMs.

I installed the rom you suggested, very good, vainilla stock GB 2.3, very light. No problem with SMS, FM Radio or Video playback, the only problem was that it seems to have the wifi problem. Under 88db it wouldn't detect wifi signal
I'm looking how to solve that to go back to that one!
Thanks
I am very happy with miui xj. Worth a try. Also, with fancy widgets you get the sense like weather and clock...
I'm new to using a rooted device and installing custom ROMS, and I love it!
I've loaded the latest Blackout ICS version 3.0.0, and am really impressed by how well it works. I immediately noticed that battery life is better than anything I've used previously, always different versions of Gingerbread. So that's a big improvement straight away. As others have highlighted, it's a bit laggy at times, but I overclocked the CPU and it runs much more smoothly. Even just 1.2 GHZ produced a noticeable improvement, and I'm now on just under 1.5 GHz, which I gather is a safe setting. I was worried about this affecting battery life, but if it has it's barely noticeable. I suppose it only runs at the fastest speed when it needs to.
The only problem with the ROM is the auto-brightness, which jumps up and down even in fixed light conditions. Not sure if the developers pick these threads up, but that is really the only issue I've found.
As the DHD seems to be the only device not to be getting an official port of ICS, I'd definitely recommend giving this ROM a try.
With all these other devices getting updates, is it likely that more fully working ICS ports for the DHD will be on the horizon?

You should also try AOSPX and Nik Project X. The first one is stock ICS and the second one is ICS with Sense 4.0. I tried both of em and they work flawlessly on my DHD.
Haven't tried Blackout yet because I saw in the thread that there were still quite a few issues to be solved.

I like the look of Nik Project X, though the final post on the forum raises an issue with not being able to get HSDPA data speed. I'll keep tabs on that forum and maybe give it a try.

Hmm, haven't really paid attention to that (I 'm mostly on WIFI). I 'll do a speedtest when I get the chance.
Edit: Did a quick test and I 'm getting 3,6Mb down / 1,6Mb up (inside a server room right now so not the best connection). Seems quite normal for my network (7,2Mb is max speed I can get from my provider). Of course the max HSDPA speed is alot higher but that 's something I cannot test.
Hi,
I've just installed, and recovered my apps, as i've wiped battery calibration i cannot talk about it, but OC is excellent. Even in default frequency the desktop turns without any lags, but as you mentionned, sometime there are some lags (typing on keyboard for instance) but i guess it's linked to the OC profile changing , try in performance instead of on demand, this should solve that.
Regarding the brightness i agree , it seems it change on "i don't know which parameter" from bright to low brightness.. so i've installed Bright day app to set the brightness along the day at low value and i've set on the main desktop the brightness widget to up from system parameters to push it up when i need, then bright day will recover the setting after a while..

So after few days of testing here are my feelings :
Takeing account of deamon set to 1,2Ghz, i can still reach 1d and half near 2days without charging , with a light use :
Allways connected to network though HSDPA (as i take train it often check the network to change the connected cell)
Playing 20-30min 3times a days to Pirates of carabean (3D game multiplayer so connecting to the network)
Surfing a bit
no music
no video
With an harder use i reached 1d wake up to sleep:
still same network condition
playing double time at least (1 to 1,5h 3times a days)
Surfing more (1h)
no music an no video
using battery eater apps (windguru) a bit
to resume my feeling on battery is excelent, i've noticed a light improvement on idle battery drop, a bit accelerated over time (due certainly to used app remaining processes.
Let's go now to the issue i've noticed :
-Back tactil button doesn't work on phone screen while it works everywhere else
-Using smoth rosie to supersmooth show a light display trouble when reducing the app drawer windows (doubling the reducing animation)
-Light keyboard trouble doubling the A letter some time (like if the touchscreen has been typed twice when its not the case)
-blackout tweak shortcut from top task bar doesn't linked (need to go through the app drawer to access it)
-Folder creation missing from widget/app shortcut addition screen (or i didn't found it) , i use the moving app on another icon to create it (i don't know if it's the ICS new way of creating folder on desktop)
The plus i've found (don't know if it's an ICS feature) : create a folder in the lower task bar : can jump from 4 shortcut to full app contained in your phone accessible from the locked screen : I loved that !
The overall impression is really great and for an old phone that "doesn't give a good experience of ICS" following HTC, i feel this ROM fullfill my expectation from ICS on my Desire HD !
Many thanks to the Blackout team !

Haha.. very funny pub..
Btw, testing further again, i've found the sms issue (from my point of view it was linked to transferring sms not to content,) I'll give a try to the 3.1 to chek this out
I confirm the keyboard double "a" in certain text box, particularly in sms typing or web address typing
Lags linked to overclocking

Yes. Some can't send at all. Some have data drop in and out while sending and some have no issues. Seems weird to me since the hardware is supposed to be the same for the most part. I think apn and radio combo has the most to do with it.
Sent from my Inspire 4G using xda premium
Love this ROM...
This ROM would be my daily driver if the Wifi hot-spot worked. Has anyone found a work-around or fix? Wifi Tether didn't work either btw. I know it's WIP by the devs but they said it wasn't a major priority for them (Boooooo lol) Fingers crossed for v3.2
As noticed recently in the official thread, i've also noticed the magical battery jumps, i first guessed it was linked to the battery calibration wipe i've done before to flash the Blackout3.0 rom, but i can sometime still see this trouble also.
It happen even phone is in use but every time inbetween 30 and 5 percent of battery left. it goes down to low then readjust it to an higher value without any reason.
The phenomen come back lately less often, but maybe devs can check this out. I'm running on a SFR Desire HD recognized as an incredible S on the 3.0 rom.

Any recommendations for ics roms I'm leaning towards mimicry since I want as much speed and stability as possible. I've been on glite for along time so performance and stability is a huge plus!
I prefer non sense roms with overclocking ability. being pretty it's a plus but not a must. I def want the most stable camera and I don't mind having to tweak out a bit. Any advice?

I think you're on the right track with Mimicry. In my experience it's been very stable, smooth, an fast. It's meets all your criteria. By default it's overclocked to 1.2 GHz, and has the option to install V6 Supercharger. I'd highly recommend it. As for pretty, Sonny Sekhon makes some incredible ISC/JB themes. Also, all ICS ROMs for the Vision have issues with 3rd party camera apps due to missing drivers. In my experience the stock camera works just fine.
I don't mind the stock camera, since frankly I have other camera apps I've never even run lol. does the stock camera do panoramic pics?

Yeah, I thought I'd miss all my camera applications, but at this moment in my life the stock camera completely suffices. I haven't used the panorama option, but... yes, it's appears (just checked it) to be working... I've been using Mimicry for several months now and I'm still excited about it. I was a long time ILWT (CM7) user and I never thought an ICS ROM could compare, but Mimicry truly does. I actually flashed back to GB a couple weeks ago - just to see - and I missed blk_jack's ROM immediately. If you take a look at some of the other "best ICS ROM" threads I think you'll see that a huge population are loving Mimicry. Good luck!
killj0y, I had the same dillema, but was using stock rom.
Friend of mine that already was testing other roms told me to experiment with Andromadus, and especially with Mimicry http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1714187
With latest radio it's just very good concerning the 'out of the box' installation experience.
The only problems were with camera, but I never experienced any issues because I use default campera app, and the only program that was giving weird effects was Google Goggles.
The lack of drivers for camera is annoying when recording video, 480p only.
Recently I started to experiment with Andromadis JellyBean development builds, they they got some minor issues. There still happen some camera issues, but video recording is ok @ 720p. In general it was a bit sluggish, but managed to fix that installing DataSwap - it really helps.
Just wait till Mimicry gonna switch to JellyBean and it's gonna by awesome.

Awesome I have had the latest radio for a while now since the ota so no issues there. I thought i was having the wifi dropout issue when i first booted but might have been a false alarm. Either way i have the files needed in my dropbox just in case. I hadn't thought about google goggles damn that kinda sucks but i can live with that. I was kinda bummed about the 720p but i rarely record video, but when I do i like it being the best quality i can manage since it will suck that much less lol.:good:
