hey guys,
sorry, i know this is my third thread in like 3 days, i'm not trying to spam here. i did search for a guide on how to flash an RUU, but didn't find any.
please if anyone knows of a guide, give me a link, otherwise, help me?
my device has that flickering, weird screen problem. i found that flashing the latest RUU can make it work, as it's a software issue.
i have USB debugging, fast boot off.
My CID is: HTC__66
Software number is: 1.29.708.9
Baseband Version: 1.1204.104.14
i only want to know the appropriate RUU for my device.
thank you!
Edit: oh and the device is stock, no unlocked bootloader, no custom recovery, not rooted.
Here is the RUU for your device : http://hoxroms.serveftp.com/RUU_END...Radio_1.1204.104.14_release_259897_signed.exe
and yours is stock, nothing else to do, other than HTC usb driver installed, connect the usb cable to your phone and pc, double click the RUU and follow the instructions displayed on the Update Utility.
anyone think this one will work for me?
RUU_ENDEAVOR_U_ICS_40_hTC_Asia_WWE_1.29.707.11_Radio_1.1204.105.14_release_260743_signed.exe

thank you so much!
but, that's the exact one like on my phone...is it the most recent?
i want an updated software that will eliminate the screen problem...:/
That's the most recent 1.29.708.9 , previous version are 1.28.708.10 & 1.26.708.2
and you cannot use 1.29.707.11, that is only for CID__044 and cannot flash a lower version than 1.29.708.9.
Flashing again 1.29.708.9 may helps the screen problem as it will correct any errors that the phone may have. If not, send back to HTC centre for checking and maybe a replacement.
This was the only thread I found that was similar to what I need, how do i determine which RUU I should be using now or in the future.
Software number:
1.29.401.11
Baseband
1.1204.105.14
if anyone can help me, thanks!
The one that has 1.29.401.11 in it
I just noticed there is only one of them with 1.29.401.11 *sighs*, thanks!

Just look for the 401.
If New firmware come out, it may look somethings like 1.30.401.13
You can only go for higher number.

Hi all, would like to know if, after installing a custom ROM, if i use a RUU will the recovery image be restored to default?
Thanks in advance!
Yes it Will
Yay! thank you! so just using the RUUs i will totally reset my desire, so HTC won't be able to tell if it's been rooted before?
Don't know whether they can't tell, whether they look if they've no need to I don't know...so long as it's on a stock ROM I don't think they'd check

What is a RUU and how can I do it, as I'm having the same problem.
I rooted to allow Titanium Backup to have root after using unrevoked but wasn’t aware that meant I also had a custom rom installed now.
I’ve been told I need to RUU as well.
RUU = ROM Upgrade Utility
It's the official way of flashing a ROM. Each phone has a software version running on it when you first get it and you should make a note of the one on yours before doing anything root-related for the very reason that if something goes wrong you can revert back to stock. Not all versions are available, e.g. there are no Orange RUUs about, but the ones that are can be found here:
http://shipped-roms.com/index.php?category=android&model=Bravo
If you didn't happen to make a note of yours then it's hard to say what it came with. If you've only rooted and NOT flashed a new ROM yet then if you go to Settings>About phone>Software information and post the software version we might be able to help
Thanks for all the information it helps fill in some blanks.
I dont think I have put a different rom on it, I only rooted using revoked- does that mean it has a different rom now?
and my settings show
Android 2.2
Baseband version 32.46.00.32U_5.10.05.17_2
Kernel version 2.6.32.15-gd96f2c0 [email protected] #1
Build number 2.12.110.2 CL232610 release-keys
Software number 2.12.110.2
on a side note the link you posted - what do the numbers correspond to, my Kernel or build
Right you're on a T-Mobile FroYo ROM but the issue is there isn't that versions RUU available...how long have you had your Desire?
Damm.
I got mine in April this year, why do you ask.
Can I not use RUU_Bravo_Froyo_TMO_AT_2.12.112.1_Radio_32.46.00.32U_5.10.05.17_2_release_143754_signed.exe?
You CAN use that but it's the Austrian one...the reason I ask is to find out the screen type, you should be on an AMOLED screen so you can flash the older 1.21.110.4 RUU if you need to - you'll need a gold card to do it, though, I believe
http://shipped-roms.com/download.ph...00.28U_4.06.00.02_2_release_127570_signed.exe
If I do flash the older 1.21.110.4 version, are there any drawbacks, or will I just be able to update through OTA updates that will then be available to me through T-mobile to get me back to normal?
Also is there a best way to do this RUU as I have seen a few guides, can you recommend any to follow.
The way I'd do it is:
1. Download that RUU
2. Have gold card in your phone and HTC Sync installed on your PC
3. Connect phone to PC and select 'HTC Sync' from the options on the phone
4. Once HTC Sync on the PC shows connected, run the RUU
5. All being correct it'll flash the ROM
6. Assuming it's worked, you should get the OTA updates again as you did before
Replying on here and androidforums is getting confusing!!!
Thanks for all the help and I hope those instructions were meant for me and not some one else

Yes they're for you but there's someone on androidforums with EXACTLY the same issue - you sure you're not the same person??
Nope thats not me
I followed all the procedures. But the RUU gave me an error after a few minutes saying 'Error 140 Bootloader version error'.
What does that mean and how can I fix it.
Which RUU are you trying to use? And which HBOOT are you on now?
Im trying to use the one you recommended above RUU_Bravo_TMO_UK_1.21.110.4_Radio_32.36.00.28U_4.06.00.02_2_release_127570_signed.exe
Bootloader version I found out by holding the back key and power button to swithc on, it says HBOOT - 0.93.0001
Hey,
I'm one of the "lucky" guys with the blackscreen problem on the WFS... Thanks to rajanand
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1781105
So now I'm able to flash new roms But it seems to me that only Android 2.3.5 Roms are running.
If I try to flash an ICS Rom i get stuck in the HTC Boot Screen. I tried to flash a new Kernel from a 2.3.5. Rom that was working (.sense Rom, AND YES I know that was a stupid idea ) This took me from the HTC Bootscreen to a blackscreen. This blackscreen is also visible in [email protected]
Trying a CM7.2 Rom with the same procedure written above I am able to see the CM7.2 load animation, but the device gets stuck in this animation.
So I hope that someone has an idea what I can do.
I already tried a superwipe (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1565263). I take a factory-reset/cach wipe/dalvik wipe for granted.
My Hboot version is 1.09.0099. As several Posts said that the bootloader should be updeted, I tryed to find a newer one as the version seen above, but I was not able to find that newer version.
Thanks for your help.
PS:
I hope I did not overlook a Post that could have helped me.....

Thank you for that link. I have downloaded all provided (there are two) europe RUUs but no one worked for me. I allways get the error 155.
If i unplug the Cable (the RUU update tool tells me to do it) HBOOT says:
RUU
Security fail!
update fail.
Takeing the battary out and in again lets the phone reboot again.
What did HTC with the WFS so that nothing works? I am so dissappointed with my device. But thank you so much for helping me

As the title said, my HTC One X version is very very old.. It's like just software updated once after I bought the phone 2 years ago.. After I rooted it, I don't know how to software update it, it be like restarted to Bootloader maybe(white screen) .. I tried to unroot by deleting something using the Eexplorer something but still failed so I've decided to keep it rooted and search for more function about root.
I heard I'm able to software update manually using ROMs right? Then I went through this forum and i found this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1920060 , How to install JellyBean 4.1.1 with Sense 4+ ROMs..
I would like to ask you guys as I'm considered do not have any knowledge of root except those fastboot bootloader stuff, is my htc one x able to do that update to JellyBean? Is it safe? I don't understand the CID stuff inside that thread..

The latest HTC updates arrived this morning (Connect, Dot View, Lock Screen, Mail, MirrorLink), and my phone prompted me to restart to update the lock screen. I did, and now my wifi won't turn on.
I've tried restarting and turning on/off airplane mode, to no avail.
(Stock HTC One M8 running Android 6.0, Sense 7.0, software 6.12.111.4)
Any ideas, and/or is anyone else having this problem?
Edit: I tried Bluetooth in the meantime, and it's turning on but won't find devices/connect to existing ones, so it looks like that's shot too.

Yeah, mobile data/calls work fine.
I was on to HTC Support earlier on and they suggested doing a hard reset, which I just did, and no luck.
It did say "Failed to load driver", so I'm wondering if I just got a bad driver in the update... Is there a way to check/fix it?

This is the bit where I admit my ignorance of what an RUU is.
I followed the instructions here to load a nandroid backup of 6.12.111.4, and it didn't fix the issue. Is this different to an RUU?
Edit: I did some internet hunting and found that RUUs for my SKU only go up as far as 4.19.111.2. Is it possible to use that RUU to install an older firmware, then search for OTAs on the phone and re-upgrade that way?

A stock nandroid is just the system and boot partitions, where an RUU is a full re-write of all partitions. That's the main difference.
But restoring the stock nandroid was not a bad idea, to at least try. Of course, since it didn't fix the issue we'll have to keep looking for a fix.

You can't "downgrade" by RUU (run an older RUU) unless you have s-off.
Now, if you restored a 6.12.111.4 nandroid didn't fix the issue, and no corresponding RUU is available (did you do an XDA search, not just around the web via Google? - sometimes folks post the RUUs direct to this forum) that leaves us in a tough spot; and you may well have to resort to s-off ($25 by sunshine app).
Have you found a fix yet?
Im having the exact same issue, i've searched everywhere and cannot find a fix have you found one yet?
also having this issue, can't find a suitable RUU for S-ON.
wouldn't it be possible to do a 4.something stock nandroid restore and then use a RUU?

I'm not clear what you are suggesting: RUU for your version, but older version 4.xx; or another versions (CID) RUU.
Either way, you can't do those with s-on.

i was referencing the downgrading issue. if there is a RUU available for 4.9.111.2, you could do a stock restore to that version before.

As I already stated, you can't do it with s-on, even if there was a Lollipop RUU for your version.
You can't run a previous version RUU (downgrade) unless you have s-off.
ok i solved it for my case. the problem i had was an outdated firmware, as mentioned here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one-m8/help/wi-fi-wont-flashing-custom-rom-t3349613
so basically what i did was flashing the latest firmware i could find (4.19) an then installing a custom rom. i guess after flashing the firmware one could also just restore a nandroid backup

So you didn't have the same issue as the OP of this thread. Theirs was a completely different issue: official OTA caused WiFi broken vs. your case of a custom ROM with outdated firmware.
Its much easier to help folks when they describe the problem properly instead of saying "I have the same problem". Which from my experience its almost never the case where its exactly the same problem (and better to give specific details).
Next time, please provide more details in order for us to help you properly.

Hi just bought a 32gb international version HTC One M8 that was converted into GPe. Then I reverted back using RUU and this firmware (1.54.401.5-W_Splash). Now that I've flashed a S-rom. Wifi isn't working. I asked the guy what was the original CID No. but he forgotten. So the question here is how do I find the right firmware?

If "401" RUU worked before (Euro version), than another 401 (x.xx.401) RUU is what you want.

Guys, I got my m8 about 5 days back. I think it's international Taiwan version. I have attached the images of current software version I am on.
Currently the phone is asking me about 3 very small updates available. I have attached that image also. I don't know what these updates are for.
Shall I update?
Will my phone remain unlocked after these updates?
If after these updates I get prompted for real marshmallow update, shall I update to marshmallow.
Does marshmallow offer much better and some desirable features which we currently don't have?
Btw, I am currently highly satisfied with my current lollipop version.
This thing has really surpassed my expectations. I previously had LG g pro and Xperia z ultra.
Yes, I would definitely update. The phone seems smoother and less laggy on android M. A few new features. Lollipop felt like a beta version of M.
There is really no point to not update.

I installed the 3 small updates. Phone prompted me to restart.
So I restarted.
Then I again check software updates and get this prompt:
After hitting the download button, I let it download as it starts downloading some 1.14 gb update. I also put it to charge.
But when after an hour so when I picked up the phone got the message given in second attached picture.
Can someone guide what is the issue?
That means your device is not the original Asia WWE ... I guess you don't bought a new device from authorized HTC dealer.
To know which device that originally is, you need to get the fastboot getvar all result.
Also what's written on the bootloader

It was a new sealed pack I got from eBay. But why it throws up the second message about variant. (I mean when it says mm software update available) ?
It says an update available because the software version no. installed on device is 4.19.707.4 and there is an update to 6.14.707.1
But the second message says it can't install the update because the model-ID in incorrect. It expect model-ID for 4.19.707.4 which is 0P6B11000 but your device may have a different model-ID
That's why we need the fastboot getvar all to determine your original device variant

But why doesn't it check for the compatible version automatically.
I mean it should say software update is not available for mobile.
It shouldn't prompt in the first place.
The update should automatically check which version or software or hardware I am on.
Btw I have hit the download button again and it's downloading. It's been about 10 minutes and 13% progress.
If this doesn't work this time again, I suppose will have to do getvar thing.
Btw, can the information given on following link solve my problem?
It says don't restart after installing 3 small updates.
But think that guys problem was a bit different
https://www.reddit.com/r/htcone/comments/41809r/marshmallow_update_question/
Those questions only HTC can answer. If I am HTC .. I don't expect the device is modified and I won't check whether the device is modified or not. Most important what is the software version no. because things like model-ID is something in the hardware not the software and users are not supposed to modify hardware.
Sorry ... I don't read outside link ... only XDA for problem reported on XDA.
If you don't feel like to fix it ... just hit don't install, don't check auto checking and block the notification ...
Good luck .. I have to go now .. bed time.
Maybe someone else will help you.

Buddy, today I found some time and installed adb and fastboot.
After going to fasboot I got to see that my device is s off.
Also ran the getvar all command.
Attached both pics.
Kindly let me know guys , what does my current configuration / status means?
And , what options I have to upgrade to marshmallow?

Your device is m8_ul_ca means it is originally an AT&T or a Developer Edition device.
Now it's running Asia WWE ROM, the CID is SuperCID (which is good) but the MID is EU MID
So .. you have to decide ..what you want your device to be ?
Most important where your location is then make it suitable for your current location.
The easiest is change it to EU WWE ... you don't need to change anything ... only run the EU WWE RUU

Thanks for the quick reply.
I am from India. Is there any method by way of which I can install ota which currently throws the system variant issue after downloading the full 1.14 gb download.
Can this be due to s off?
can I just s on from s off and this will resolve my current issue.
Or its not possible now ?( Because it's modified too far?)
read just a few minutes back in one m8 thread on xda only that with a fastboot command (fastboot own writesecurflag 3) we can convert to s on but everything should be stock for this.
As I mentioned earlier, the system variant error is due to wrong MID on the device, nothing to do with S-Off/S-On status.
You would not have the system variant error if the MID is 0P6B11000 ( read back my post #7 )
To ensure a successful OTA installation ... both software version no. and MID must correct .. same goes for CID but since yours is SuperCID then it is universal for any variant.
Give you a few examples of correct version no. & MID
Asia WWE - x.xx.707.x - MID - 0P6B11000
EU WWE - x.xx.401.x - MID - 0P6B10000
India WWE - x.xx.720.x - MID - 0P6B65000
Your current configuration is wrong, that's why the system variant error.
I suggest to install EU WWE RUU so you save the headache to change this and that.
Read this for the driver part that you need on your PC - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=64926362&postcount=4
Read this for the EU RUU and How-to : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=64926626&postcount=6
Or if the above is not possible, I am ready to flash ruu. Then kindly guide me how and what ruu to flash? Will I have to unlock also?

Don't do this when you have this kind of wrong configuration on your device.
You'll regret your action as you won't be able to do anything not even OTA until you spend another USD25 to S-Off it again and correct the configuration.

Read what I posted earlier ... that's all you need to do .. no need to unlock but you can unlock if you want to.
My mied reads 000000.. does this mean eu mied?
Or its just because it's not a cdma device?
