[Q] Help with software updating my HTC One X - HTC One X

As the title said, my HTC One X version is very very old.. It's like just software updated once after I bought the phone 2 years ago.. After I rooted it, I don't know how to software update it, it be like restarted to Bootloader maybe(white screen) .. I tried to unroot by deleting something using the Eexplorer something but still failed so I've decided to keep it rooted and search for more function about root.
I heard I'm able to software update manually using ROMs right? Then I went through this forum and i found this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1920060 , How to install JellyBean 4.1.1 with Sense 4+ ROMs..
I would like to ask you guys as I'm considered do not have any knowledge of root except those fastboot bootloader stuff, is my htc one x able to do that update to JellyBean? Is it safe? I don't understand the CID stuff inside that thread..
These are my software information:
Android version : 4.0.3
HTC sense : 4.0
Software number 1.29.707.11
API level 4.12
Kernel version 2.6.39.4-gc9932b1
baseband version 1.1204.105.14
Build number 1.29.707.11 CL63214 release-keys

Help with flashing an RUU.

hey guys,
sorry, i know this is my third thread in like 3 days, i'm not trying to spam here. i did search for a guide on how to flash an RUU, but didn't find any.
please if anyone knows of a guide, give me a link, otherwise, help me?
my device has that flickering, weird screen problem. i found that flashing the latest RUU can make it work, as it's a software issue.
i have USB debugging, fast boot off.
My CID is: HTC__66
Software number is: 1.29.708.9
Baseband Version: 1.1204.104.14
i only want to know the appropriate RUU for my device.
thank you!
Edit: oh and the device is stock, no unlocked bootloader, no custom recovery, not rooted.
Here is the RUU for your device : http://hoxroms.serveftp.com/RUU_END...Radio_1.1204.104.14_release_259897_signed.exe
and yours is stock, nothing else to do, other than HTC usb driver installed, connect the usb cable to your phone and pc, double click the RUU and follow the instructions displayed on the Update Utility.
anyone think this one will work for me?
RUU_ENDEAVOR_U_ICS_40_hTC_Asia_WWE_1.29.707.11_Radio_1.1204.105.14_release_260743_signed.exe

thank you so much!
but, that's the exact one like on my phone...is it the most recent?
i want an updated software that will eliminate the screen problem...:/
That's the most recent 1.29.708.9 , previous version are 1.28.708.10 & 1.26.708.2
and you cannot use 1.29.707.11, that is only for CID__044 and cannot flash a lower version than 1.29.708.9.
Flashing again 1.29.708.9 may helps the screen problem as it will correct any errors that the phone may have. If not, send back to HTC centre for checking and maybe a replacement.
This was the only thread I found that was similar to what I need, how do i determine which RUU I should be using now or in the future.
Software number:
1.29.401.11
Baseband
1.1204.105.14
if anyone can help me, thanks!
The one that has 1.29.401.11 in it
I just noticed there is only one of them with 1.29.401.11 *sighs*, thanks!

Just look for the 401.
If New firmware come out, it may look somethings like 1.30.401.13
You can only go for higher number.

Back to Stock

Hi all,
I need some help guys... I purchased a used HTC One X (Quadcore) a couple of days back from an online seller. The phone is perfect but seems the seller rooted the phone. I found out about it by following a guide that said to open a terminal emulator and type "su". It didn't ask me for any password and immediately turned the command prompt to #.
Now the phone has been lagging more than normal and I'm not receiving the OTA update as well. I decided to take it to the store as its still under warranty. So I need someone to tell me what to do and how do I reset it to stock firmware or unroot?
I lost contact with the seller and do not have the option to ask him to reset it for me or get any information about the root.
The phone was purchased from the United Arab Emirates.
Thanks for helping.

boot in to bootloader by pressing vol down + power button at the same time
then once you get to the bootloader check at the top of screen whether its written Locked or Unlocked
If its unlocked then your phone is rooted
if its rooted then you need to flash the ruu of stock ROM to and install stock recovery to unroot
and use some commands..
check this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1609190
Thanks
Thanks Vivek for the reply. But is there a certain stock rom I should be using?

Don't know if you sorted this but you need to be using your current version number (find this in.. settings > about > software information)
Unlocked bootloader doesn't ALWAYS mean you're rooted, it just means your bootloader was unlocked... (which is a helpful thing really...when wanting to flash sexy stuff)...
The RUU (Rom Update Utility) Should match or be higher than your version number and must be for your CID or it will fail. FOR example... 1.29.401.9
The 1.29 start bit should match as should the red inbetween bit. This is what you're looking for.
Software info
Ok, all i see when i visit the software information is the following.
Android Version
4.0.4
HTC Sense Version
4.1
Software Number
HTC One maXimus V3.0
HTC SDK API level
4.23
HTC Extension version
HTCExtension_403_1_G_20
Kernel version
2.6.39.4-g090b42e
[email protected] #1
Baseband version
2.1204.135.20
Build number
2.17.401.2 CL89015 release-keys
Browser version
WebKit/534.30
All i want is to return the phone to its factory state. I couldn't get the official OTA update coz of this stupid "maXimus" thing...
Well I guess if you have a nandroid back up you should've made, that would save you tonnes of problems otherwise you need to find what version you were on relock your bootloader and apply the ruu, not sure if you need stock recovery on.

I believe you know about going to fastboot mode and use fastboot command, type
fastboot getvar version-main
it will show your stock software version no. then you can look for the right RUU.
The latest official stock rom for the UAE is 1.29.415.11 and Radio 1.1204.105.14 android 4.0.3(i think), and the ruu flasher is
RUU_ENDEAVOR_U_ICS_40_HTC_ARA_1.29.415.11_Radio_1.1204.105.14_release_260742_signed.exe (dont forget to relock b-l )
check the main version from fastboot by the method ckpv5 mentioned and if its not 1.29.415.11 and the radio showing on bootloader is 1.1204.105.14
that means ur phone was not middle east version OR
the original user flashed the wrong update from another country, and you will have to reflash that corresponding stock version.
Remember if you feel scammed at any point(online sellers or shops) you can contact the Consumer Protection Structure in the UAE , call 999 or the directory and ask for the number, they deal with scammers.

[Q] OTA not appearing after removing CWM

Basically, the 4.1.1 update rolled to my phone today (T-Mobile UK One X) and It failed to install due to clockwork mod being installed, so i replaced it with the stock recovery using this guide http://www.androidauthority.com/one-x-revert-stock-recovery-76854/, and then tried to update again. When my (now formatted due to reverting to stock recovery) phone restarted, I went into the settings to make sure it all worked properly and saw that it was still on 4.0.4. And now, the update won't even appear, so I can't try it again!
Any ideas? This is what I see on software settings:
Android version
4.0.4
HTC Sense version
4.1
Software number
2.17.401.2
HTC SDK API level
4.23
HTC Extension version
HTCExtension_403_1_GA_20
Also, I have the bootloader unlocked, and using the guide to upgrade the hboot for JB i am on hboot 1.28.
Basically, I'm asking if anyone knows a way for me to either identify the problem that means the update isn't appearing, or if there is another way to install the official 4.1.1 update.
I guess you checked manually in settings - software - check for updates......
Just to avoid any other stupid questions

somebody plz help, I tried this one as well, this one also didn't work, I'm familiar with the stuff, I know I'm not doing something wrong to restore, someone who's more advanced in this stuff please help me now mydevice is relocked, & can't run the RUU exe & when I reboot for anything it tells me:
"This build is for development purposes only
Do not sistribute outside of HTC without HTC's written permition.
Failure to comply may lead to legal action"
& then the device will boot back to bootloader with "device relocked" warning!
If you still have the unlock code , flash it
Phone in bootloader
Fastboot flash unlocktoken unlock_code.bin
Then flash a custom recovery
http://db.tt/Krlm4dPs
Rename it to recovery.img and flash it
Fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
Download a custom rom and flash it with the including boot.img
Then you have at least a working phone and you can charge it in the recovery before your batt runs out !!!
Ow and by the way the error has more to do with the pc than with the phone because its the correct ruu !!!
I know what i'm talking about mate

Thanks for the guide but all this is a normal process to go back to where I was, I have failed to run the RUU many other times while trying
Yes I have the unlock code, & I have gone back to a billion times, but this time I want to keep my phone half way bricked untill I figure out how to run the RUU file, because I have tried it here and there on other computers too & it still gives me the same error
I had the same error yesterday when running an older version RUU to get it's ROM.zip;
But running a latest version.. all ok. Not sure if this is complicating with the latest HTC driver installed.
BTW.. give the latest version for your device a try.
The latest is RUU_ENDEAVOR_U_ICS_40_S_hTC_Asia_WWE_2.17.707.3_Radio_2.1204.135.20_release_278245_signed.exe
This is Sense 4.1, one version before the JB update.

What do you mean by 4.1 update ?
If sense 4.1, what you have now is sense 4.1, no more further update as this is the latest for sense 4.1.
If you mean the android 4.1.1 with sense 4+, maybe you need to wait a little bit longer before the update comes but you can try settings-about-software update-check now
But based on my experience with One S, I do not have update from 1.18 to 2.15; I have to manually update with RUU. Not sure if HTC stopped the OTA update when RUU is available.
So if there is no update, you can use the JB RUU to update to Sense 4+.

ow thanks once more, thankfully & luckily they already released the 4.1.1 with sense 4+ on OTA update, sense 4+ is amazing fast, my last sense experience was when I just bought my one x which was when sense 3 was just out, & I was disapointed, but now, I'm really surprised of it's smoothness & faster speed

Help Unlock Bootloader in HTC One X (at&t) 4.2.2 Sense 5 Build 5.18.502.1

Hi Guys,
Writing this question after much of trying, watching lots of videos and searching lots of forums.
I will try to be as informative as possible.
I tried unlocking the bootloader of my HTC One X using the Unlock Instructions on the official HTCDev website.
But I get an error saying
Unlocking Bootloader Failed!
Error Code: 160.
Error Reason: MID Not Allowed.
Click to collapse
I search around and found that it might be because I have updated my phone with 4.2.2. Sense 5.
And because of this other Rooting Options are also not working on my phone using Fastboot and ADB.
So here I am asking your help. I want to install a custom ROM on my phone, probably CyanogenMOD or something else, but before that the phone needs to be Rooted and Bootloader Unlocked!
Or at least I want to Roll Back to by default Android Version so that other recovery options may work!
Tried to recover as well using the "Recovery" option in the Bootloader. But once I click on Recovery, it does not give me any further options and the phone simply restarts!
Would appreciate your ideas to:
Unlock the Bootloader and Root the phone!
OR Recover it to it's base ROM
Thanks! Below is the details of my device!
Kernel version : 3.4.10
Build Number: 5.18.502.1
