Was just wondering which websites people follow for their fix of WP7 news. I myself have found a couple of good ones, but none of them are big enough to be my only source of news.
Anyway, here's my list:
WMPowerUser - Great site that does a couple of app and game reviews daily and usually has the best coverage about WP7 news. Only negative is that sometimes they seem just a tad biased, but I guess that's a given with a dedicated site.
WP Central - Good site that also does at least one review daily. But also lacks in comparison to the amount of news found on WMPU.
PocketNow - One of the only mobile sites that does an equal amount of coverage for WP7 as the other platforms. Plus there's a filter above their article previews which means you can choose to only read about WP7 news if you want.
Best WP7 Games - Bad name, but a truly excellent site. I just found it a couple of days ago and it's my new favorite for game reviews and news. I have discovered a lot of great games I literally had no idea about.
So, what are yours?
nice find. knew about a couple of them, but best wp7 games looks cool.

WP7 App List looks great. It gives a very nice statistics:
http://wp7applist.com/stats/
AppsFuze gives you direct links to an application page + shows app rating.
Marketplace Browser is easiest to be found in Google It allows posting comments/answers.
Nice topic !
Personnaly, mine are MonSmartphone.net with it's nice design (it reminds me of my smartphone WP7). It covers main news about Windows Phone 7 (and WP7 enabled smartphones) and some games/apps weekly.
It has everything about WP7, even a marketplace. The bad : only in French :'(
I also like Engadget, really awesome, a reference ! Covers nearly everything about gizmos and technologies.
Finally, MobileTechWorld for his nice articles, reviews and news about Windows Phone 7
there is also mobilitydigest.com and wpcentral.com
Obviously these 3 websites:

Yes yes I use all of these sites and they are great for now, but I have a vision for something a lot greater
That's why I am actually releasing a new site: Windowsphonespot.com
Can't spill all the details right now, but I've already registered the domain and am hard at work on the design. Just know that when the site does open (Around January) it will be THE site to visit daily for all WP7 owners.

WMPoweruser.com has to tone down their ads though. I particularly hate that big block of ads separating the blog post and the comments section. Not to mention the irrelevant Goodyear tire ads (which Pocketnow also displays).
I know the ads support the site, but there's a point where too many ads make the ads themselves ineffective/irrelevant.
i agree. best thing to do is to have an adblocker installed. though it might be hard to find a good one for IE, but they're out there.

OP should add in all/some of the links in to the first post and mods should sticky this! Could be useful to people new to WP7 and dont know where to find more info about WP7 news. This thread certainly did help me!
I'm working on making my website the premier site for WP7 game news and reviews. http://www.m-arcade.com/ - I haven't officially launched it yet. I plan to do that sometime next week, but from that point forward I hope to provide frequent game reviews (with video) and also relevant news.
One thing I did with my site was made it incredibly easy for people to log in and comment, both in the blog and the forums, which I hope encourages discussion that will lead to better game updates, and also more informed game purchases.
Copy from Neowin.net. If this is old news, mod pls close thread.
Today, the slew of "pre-Mango" posts began. Were you suspicious about why the sudden posting? It's because Microsoft has been giving out the build to the press ahead of the Mango Beta release, which is due to be announced within the next 24 hours.
Neowin has received multiple independent tips that the beta will be made available for all devices through the MSDN Create hub for those with developer accounts, on June 22/23, with Microsoft set to make the announcement sometime during the next 24 hours. The beta will not be restricted to "favorite" developers but will be generally available to anyone with a paid subscription, and will be able to be loaded on any of the production devices.
The timing of the claims line up, as do the legitimacy of the claims considering the amount of reviews that have just appeared. Also, if you look at multiple reviews, each one uses a different device. There aren't any Mango events worldwide for this specific launch, so we expect a release will appear on Microsoft's PressPass site soon.
Mango brings a new set of features to the platform, including IE9 support, full IM integration, performance improvements and multitasking and is expected to be released in September of this year for general availability.
Update: Neowin used multiple sources to comfirm this news. The sources used to confirm this article are reliable, and this news is not considered a rumor currently. In addition, the software giant is planning on handing out developer devices to VIP devlopers as part of the announcement.

Seriously, if that happens, I will trave to USA to kiss Balmer's bald head!
So if you feel like it you can pay $99 to get Mango now .
Well if it's available to developers than there will be ways to install it on other phones too.
I have no idea how that's supposed to work though via the official channel. Full ROM flash?
personally i think its crap. Until someone confrims it. Joe Belfiore himself confired via twitter that they will be handing mango devices.
I've read about that on several sources too. Now if that turns out to be true I will have pre-release Mango within the next 2 days. oO Woohoo! Sadly a lot of the features won't be available right now. Like Twitter integration in the peoples hub and such. But I guess there'll be additional releases like that until Microsoft releases the final build to all customers.
@androidkiller
So joe says he will hand mango devices.. which means its crap that microsoft that will release the ROM?
theres no logic there

Zune maybe... They know if you are a developer, so they can push trough a message that your phone has an update. Or maybe you have to make a request on the apphub and than it will be pushed trough zune...
Well Im trying not to get my hopes up... First see than believe

That's my thought too. The key part of his tweet to me is "this week". That means there (likely) won't be a developer release right now, but it also implies that next week there very likely could be.

Hey guys,
Here's the new full story:
WP7: Mango beta process detailed, delay explained, new unannounced features
You can read about it in the story, but essentially whats happened is Microsoft delayed it and is still planning on releasing the update this week. Here's hoping, right?!
WP7 has been out for about 10 months now. When I browse the UK marketplace I can't believe we barely have UK specific apps. I met a French friend the other day and his Optimus 7 had plenty of French apps to work with but here in the UK we have to rely on 3rd party developers. That's very odd, I wonder what's happening between Microsoft and the UK. We have what, Tesco, Yell, a few radio apps and that's about it.
Big absentees I can think of:
Amazon
Lovefilm
Argos
Metro
Sky
BBC
TVGuide
AA
Post Office
Sainsburys (coming I believe)
BT Phonebook
Jobcentre
Any banking app
Plus probably many more you can name. You can't tell me it's because of APIs either, most if not all of the apps above would be possible with WP7 v1.0
Amazon Kindle is available in the UK - but I agree the Amazon shopper app would be cool. I'd love to see an iPlayer app from the BBC but there's been no word of that and I too feel as though I'm missing out from a banking app.
To be honest, though, I think it's because most of these companies don't actually develop their mobile apps, they outsource to 3rd party companies who build the cross-platform apps for them. If those 3rd party companies don't build Windows Phone apps then there won't be a Windows Phone app for the main company.
It's something Microsoft could try and push (and who knows, they might be) but it might not be high on the priority list.
We do have British Airways though.
Yeah anyone can fly on British Airways so I'm not really counting this one. It's odd that the French have all sorts of French apps though, they probably use 3rd party developers too afterall.
I wonder how it is in other European countries where the marketplace is open.
Hasn't Microsoft recently released a UK only Bing app? I think in Germany there isn't any specific dedicated app at all. But to be honest here, I'm quite satisfied with the generic apps out there.
I came from Android and didn't really have these apps on there so I don't really feel like I'm missing something, but you do have a point.
Tesco Groceries and Tesco Good Food were available on launch but not much after that. I can see Sky coming soon.. The BBC apps are fairly new aren't they?
The BBC apps aren't official, the main one has been there since launch I believe. Most if not all of these apps are available on iOS and Android. Many are also on BlackBerry and the Ovi store.

Maybe I get you wrong, but honestly.. First lots of people were complaining about all those apps that were missing in WP7 but available for other mobile OSes, now you complain about a lack of WP7 exclusive apps? To be a little more precise WP7 exclusive apps that are limited to the UK? Hmm.. From a business point of view that doesn't make sense. Why should developers limit their apps - which generate income - to one single OS and on top of that to one single region?

I know for a good fact that banking apps are coming, the inlaw works in banking security and they are in the process of developing the apps for the UK.
Windows Phone sadly is taking up the rear, ive seen what they are working on with the iphone and android.
In all fairness it's because it's a new platform.
Hate to compare to android all the time, but I had a G1 and then a HTC Desire. Big apps, ports of big iPhone apps didn't even start surfacing until the Nexus One was launched which was about 1 year, 3 months after the G1. As I was leaving Android, Big UK Apps started to surface like Sky News etc. This was on WP's launch, around November 2010.
If we assume the timescales will be the same, IMO the Nokia Sea Ray (or whatever Nokia's Flagship WP device turns out to be) is Windows Phone's equivalent to the Nexus One.
Sorry to bring up an old thread.
I've noticed that theres alot of things I would like to add to my phone but can't as noone seems to be creating these apps for WP7
I used to use MoBank, as I bank with natwest. I've been asking them about an app for wp7 since december, they keep replying they're working on it, I've just found out that not only have they "updated" their iphone app, but have released a BB one as well . Also Mobank seems to have disappeared from the marketplace.
Anyone know of any good banking apps?
Here we sit knee deep in August hoping that the next update will bridge the gap between our device of choice and other platforms. Currently there are rumors flying about that the platform's salvation comes September 1st in the form of the Mango update. Further down the line their is talk of a Tango update. All of this encouraging considering most of us bought into a product they we can all safetly say was in beta form of what was being promise. While the reviews thus far have been good one can only hope these milestones do not dissapoint. Follow the link below for more. http://www.l337ware.com/

First off "Mango Tango" sounds utterly cool. Second don't hate. Lastly How many similiar post were there? Because honestly I saw like a grip talking about the free release. Like XDA kinda got bombarded. I wouldn't take it personally. I can delete this post if it would make you feel better.
Note : There were about 400+ people interested enough in the subject material. After reading this if they so decided moved on to the link and which linked an XDA master post about the core unpolished material though not in redundancy to the my original post (along with various other options). I see those numbers on my end and it was significant. Realize my site is a non profit entity which honestly I dont really care if anyone visits but I share stuff with this forum. Do you realize how many duplicate posts I probably just staved off? Also I've been on these forums since the PPC 6600 and did ask the powers that be about establishing a relationship between the two sites.
Awesome ... I don't have a account in other PSA forums orelse I wld share

Why do people continue to call the WinPhone release a beta? It was in final form for its 1.0 release, it wasn't a beta because it lacked features which got you all upset. Would we all have preferred other features? Of course, but to say it was in beta is ridiculous. I guess iOS and Android are in beta because they don't support Live Messenger or Facebook in their messaging services.

No, we call it a beta because alot ot things are broken and or missing. The OS can't hold up to intensive use and alot of things that were hyped up were never delivered in it's initial release.
Missing? They weren't missing, just weren't part of the 1.0 release

The OS working wasn't part of the 1.0 release. Perfect example the inevitable lock up that would occur requiring reset of the phone after scrolling through the market place with any frequency other than brief. That is one of like a thousand problems not all of which have been addressed even now. Don't get me wrong I'm a Microsoft nut. From gaming console, to PC, to Tablet, and finally to phone but even I have to concede the Q&A on WP7's initial release sucked. It's one of the reasons my wife ditched her HD7 and will probably never come back to the OS.
Bugs do occur in release products, doesn't make it beta... All software in this world is in beta according to your logic.
Sent from my HD7 using Board Express
There are standards applied to a final release. I'd almost dare saying Windows Phone was alot like Vista at it's release. It lacked the polish of a finished product.
maybe those are hd7 bugs? i never had any issues with v1, nor do my friends have. there is the occasional lock-up that is about once every other month. same as on an iphone for me.
it worked, delivered the promised functionality, and had a good feature set FOR A PHONE. yes, not for the "i actually want everything possible i could do on my laptop, too, and it should make me coffee, too" nerd type. but for the typical PHONE usage (you know, sms, calls, browsing the web a bit, doing some smarter things like mail, people management, dates and stuff), it worked pretty well. now on mango, there's much more, of course. but v1 worked, and it did well. still does for my friends. good enough to not have to pre-update them to mango. they like what they see on my phone, but are happy enough to not bother about pre-updating manually.

Any new newses about Skype version for wp7.5
Sent from my OMNIA7 using XDA Windows Phone 7 App
it was supposed to be released end 2011 and its already jan 2012 yet there are no news on Skype for WM 7.5. Most of the MS / Skype forums are flooded with a similar query but there has been no official announcement. Hope they release it at the earliest
I'm getting annoyed myself (and I'm not forum basher), but it's beginning to feel more and more like MS is abandoning WP7 and pushing everything to WP8, if they do that I'm bailing.
I would imagine since they are hopefully going to integrate this deeply into WP7 they would want to release this integration with a windows phone major update...perhaps Apollo?
MS is not abandoning windows phone...I can't even comprehend how someone could even think that...disagree with their strategies and perhaps they will not be successful in the long term but they are spending loads of cash on this...if they fail in mobile the company is in jeopardy...
Wtf? Mobile doesn't mean squat to Microsoft.

I guess Microsoft is waiting for MWC for Apollo/Tango details and skype integration.
