[Q] Confirming Kindle Fire Root

Hi guys,
I've read extensively about rooting my new Kindle fire with the latest update.
After quite a few bumps and such, I managed to finish the rooting process.
Right now I'm wondering how in the world do I know if my Kindle Fire is rooted or not as I don't see any difference whatsoever.
Also I tried to copy the Vending.apk file into my system/app folder after mounting it as read and write but everytime I do it, it does nothing so I can't install it via the app folder. Does this indicate that I do not actually have root access? When I mounted the folder it said superuser granted to the folder if that's a vital piece of info.
But my main question as indicated by the thread title would be how do I know if I have root access? If I do, why is it not allowing me to move a .apk file into the app folder?
Thanks!
This Kindle Fire Utility can check for you.
So I ran it and it says
ADB Status: Online
ADB Root: No
Boot Status: 4000
Does this mean it's not rooted?
Or put it to a real world test. See if you can launch a prog like titanium backup and have root access granted to it.
This tool will also check for you.

Thanks much aoaleman! I used your app there and it says I have root access. So would you happen to know why I cannot paste the Android market installer into the app folder even after I used the Kindle utility to enable read/write? It's just not showing up to let me install it.

Are you on stock Kindle Fire software? It might have something to do with that, not sure.
Yeah it is on stock. So I just used the install google apps on the kindle utility and it just did everything that somehow I failed to do. It is right now working for me.
Thanks so much for the help!
I'm now looking for a way to put CyanogenMod onto it. Do you have an opinion on the CM mod and/or if it's even possible for the kindle? What extras does it provide or anything that's useful that merits getting it?

Well if you've ever used CyanogenMod on any other device like an Android phone you will know that it's just awesome. So much you can do and you have full control of what goes on and what you can install on it. I would definitely recommend CM over Stock Kindle software.
It basically turns into a fully functional tablet.
Right now I'm running GO Launcher EX, I'm assuming that's another version of a ROM right? Sorry kinda noobish with the vocab

It's okay, everybody starts somewhere.
GO Launcher EX is basically just software to reorganize your applications and how you navigate your operating system. But if you're using GO Launcher that's kind of a preview of how using CyanogenMod would be.
So is there a thread or something that lists our what cyanogen gives?

What file browser were you using to move the file? You must use a "root browser" to modify the system directory and some of them (like sufbs) require you to mount the system dir as rw before modifying.

Last time when I used KFU to root my KF, I needed to re-install the Superuser app (adb install C:\kfu\software\Superuser.apk) to gain root access. I use Root Explorer as my file browser. It allows you to choose Read Only or Read/Write for the folder you are working with.

I have no idea why it says to format drive. Probably an SD card problem?
Anyways make sure that you go to Motorola website and download latest drivers. It's called
Motorola Device Manager I think and it's available for both PC and mac.
Do i need to flash rom or what? And it says to format the phone not sd card.
My phone is mb226 does this mean i have red lenses?Cuz i dont know whick CM to install.

no, you have to install the drivers for your pc/mac, not your phone.
and that your pc recognizes your phone as mb526 only means it runs on gingerbread kernel. if you have a working camera on gb kernel, then you have a red lens device. check oit what kind of battery it has, if bf5x then you have a defy (mb525), if bf6x you have a defy+ (mb526).

Phone NOT BOOTING UP NEED HELP ASAP

So my friend brings me his gsm nexus and is not loading up stays stuck and loading Google screen but does nothing from there..... I asked him what he had done and he said he went into cwm since he was having problems with his phone and decide to format everything on it sdcard/system/ etc etc etc..... I never done something so stupid before lol So I really don't know how to help him...... any way to be able to flash a stock rom maybe via odin ? or stock anything to get the phone to boot up again ? any help is greatly appreciated....... I could boot it up in recovery mode but since sd card is empty I can't restore any roms or any backups since he seem to have deleted them all
well your friend formatted the /system directory so there is no rom on there. of course it wont boot up.
follow this to go back to stock: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1626895
DO NOT USE ODIN.
also, tell your friend to leave the phone stock until he knows what he is doing.

his 'friend' rooted his own phone and doesnt know how to fix it so he hands it to soemone else that doesnt know how to fix it? you should point your friend to XDA, its a great resource
I guess if you guys wanna say is me doesn't really bother me.... I use xda to flash and stay up to date with the community I am in no way a developer or claim to know what I am doing.... Just trying to help a friend out or like you guys say me.... Just trying to fix a phone I was the one that rooted the phone for him... Just don't see the big deal..... But hey if it makes you guys happy saying it was me that did it I don't mind no big deal just looking for help thats all.....

OP, you might want to uninstall the drivers you currently have for 'android 1.0' in device manager, reboot the computer and then try installing the new drivers.
Or use a tool kit to download a factory rom and flash it.

[Q] How to restore Galaxy Nexus without USB

Hi,
Has anyone any idea how to restore my Galaxy Nexus to original without using USB?
I have a Galaxy Nexus Android 4.2.2. The USB doesn't working, however when connected to the power it recharges the battery but turns the phone off.
I can not use USB connection to computer either because the phone switches off immediately.
The phone has been rooted and I can access the root section when the phone turned on and I can upload any file via SMB.
I just need some info on what to do to restore the phone to it's original condition and so remove the info on rooting.
Please don't send me info on any external USB connection because I've tried it all and it does not working.
Thanks

You don't need access to fastboot if you have root.
Install ROM Manager from the Play Store and use that to install CWM. The just flash the zip in the post i linked to. (Flash a superuser zip right after as well if you want root.)

Worst case, download mobile Odin via play store. If u still have root access then your good. Search for latest gnex stock image(its available to public in its original form made for restore purposes or manual upgrade) keep in mind this wipes everything. While using app ensure ever root is enabled otherwise you'll lose root. The stock image should be in tgz format or something similar. Extract it to your SD card, it will give u a folder. Inside the folder is a bunch of files( possibly a folder within a folder, been a while for me). When using mobile Odin u manually select the boot.IMG system.IMG radio.IMG user data.IMG so if u know the problem u can choose just what u need. Sounds complicated as hell but its really simple. I figured this to be a temporary solution as my laptop had no internet to download need files to restore. Only problem is Mobil Odin isn't free about 4 bucks I think. But well worth the money

Under developer options is option "adb over the network", so if you select this your phone will get ip address and listening port and then you can access it via your computer on that specifics ip/port.

As per usual when changing ROMs, you need to wipe data (in most cases) for your device to boot.

Rom instalation

Hello,
Every time i try to install a ROM. "Using twrp or cwm" Rom installs "Says successful with twrp" i reboot and they all get stuck at the first splash screen. I have no idea why. At the moment i am trying to install hyperdrive ROM. And it does the same thing. I have not been able to install a custom ROM yet. Every time it is the same situation. I have to flash to a stock ROM with odin to get my phone working every time. Then update re root re install twrp and try again. But to no avail i always get the same problem , being stuck on the first splash screen. Weather it be the Sprint s3 screen or a custom ROM splash screen. Would be awesome if someone could help. Thanks a bunch! I would be so grateful.

This is very good advice & should be the standard for all flashing. Downloading and installing via OTA does work but also has more instances of incorrect md5 (bad download) than direct to PC...
I actually am downloading to my pc then transferring it to the sd card on my phone with the cable that came with the s3.

Not saying this is your issue and I've never had it happen to me but have you tried using a CWM recovery? Some say certain ROMs will only flash w/certain recoveries. Maybe try mixing it up & see what happens?
Thats actually what i was thinking right now. Just tried cwm and got the same thing. Sitting here now about 10 min on the splash screen for Hyperdrive Rom. Dont think its going to work. What i don't get is everything always says successfully installed. Then i wipe cache and delvik again. reboot and wait for the first boot up and nothing. Still sitting here with the splash screen. Thinking of making a video step by step of what i am doing and posting it.... Its frustrating. Thanks for the reply. Every bit helps.

Yes, it is possible. But the dev would need to provide the rom in a .tar form, and as far as I know none of them do

Ok this may sound stupid, create a subfolder in your sd storage, if you can do it on the external SD card even better. Name the subfolder whatever you want but I would start it with the letter A so it's always at the top of your list of folders. When you go into recovery do a factory reset and then choose to flash rom from whichever storage location you placed it in and go to the folder you created and placed it in. The reason I'm saying this is because sometimes other locations may ad a sub directory designation to your file which will corrupt the file and md5. Just a suggestion you have nothing to loose. And again what rom are you flashing?

Ok this may sound stupid, create a subfolder in your sd storage, if you can do it on the external SD card even better. Double check the MD5 after your transfer I noticed you said the use the stock cable. I HIGHLY recommend a BB cable heavy duty cable. I have used a BB cable for many years and never had a problem with flashing.

Hello,
Every time i try to install a ROM.

Have you tried waiting? Because I know when I'm flashing a ROM I don't know why but with EVERY ROM when I install it and it says install successfull I have to wait a couple minutes because its actually not done its still installing stuff if you have trwp it will tell you the progress as its going even though it says installation complete.
