So my friend brings me his gsm nexus and is not loading up stays stuck and loading Google screen but does nothing from there..... I asked him what he had done and he said he went into cwm since he was having problems with his phone and decide to format everything on it sdcard/system/ etc etc etc..... I never done something so stupid before lol So I really don't know how to help him...... any way to be able to flash a stock rom maybe via odin ? or stock anything to get the phone to boot up again ? any help is greatly appreciated....... I could boot it up in recovery mode but since sd card is empty I can't restore any roms or any backups since he seem to have deleted them all
well your friend formatted the /system directory so there is no rom on there. of course it wont boot up.
follow this to go back to stock: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1626895
DO NOT USE ODIN.
also, tell your friend to leave the phone stock until he knows what he is doing.

yes as Z said that will fix the OP's phone
his 'friend' rooted his own phone and doesnt know how to fix it so he hands it to soemone else that doesnt know how to fix it? you should point your friend to XDA, its a great resource
I guess if you guys wanna say is me doesn't really bother me.... I use xda to flash and stay up to date with the community I am in no way a developer or claim to know what I am doing.... Just trying to help a friend out or like you guys say me.... Just trying to fix a phone I was the one that rooted the phone for him... Just don't see the big deal..... But hey if it makes you guys happy saying it was me that did it I don't mind no big deal just looking for help thats all.....

this phone doesn't use external sd cards....
OP, you might want to uninstall the drivers you currently have for 'android 1.0' in device manager, reboot the computer and then try installing the new drivers.
Or use a tool kit to download a factory rom and flash it.
Edit: can't you mount the sdcard using cwm and copy a rom to the sdcard?

You gotta install adb driver for Nexus. For my computer, when I enabled usb debugging, it downloaded the driver for me (odd enough) but if your computer doesn't do that, you can Google around to get the exe file for you to install. Just make sure the Nexus has usb debugging on, or it doesn't let you install the driver (from my experience)

It doesn't matter what you're currently on. You will completely nuke your phone when you fastboot the images onto your device anyway.
ok my computer currently recognizes my phone now and i know how to re lock my bootloader what rom should i put it on so they dont know i was rooted before relocking the bootloader. So you got everything stock except the ROM? So you got stock recovery and everything? If you do, first of all, download the stock rom from google site (there should be few versions, that, you gotta find it out) then you need to download clockwork mod recovery (assuming that you got fastboot and adb) now just boot into cwm on your phone and flash the stock rom. By doing this, you're not over writing the recovery but you can still use the cwm
Also you gotta unlock first lol

When you are booted into bootloader but a "fastboot devices" does not list your device, it's almost always caused by having installed either no driver at all or the wrong one. Use the naked driver, follow the link in my signature to find it.

What you see is the stock recovery. Android will flash it back automatically even after you've flashed a custom recovery. To prevent this, you must either rename/delete /etc/install-recovery.sh OR rename/delete /system/recovery-from-boot.p.
LTE radios are in the factory images. Read this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1626895

Navigate to the folder /etc with a file manager. Remount with RW rights (root explorer has a convenient button for this) and rename the file install-recovery.sh to install-recovery.sh.bak.
Then reflash a custom recovery. This time it will stick.

Can you boot into fastboot? (Hold the power button and both volume buttons). I would boot into fastboot and reflash the Stock images. Also want to specify which variant you have.. GSM or CDMA if CDMA, verizon or Sprint?
Factory reset from stock or a custom recovery will not wipe the system partition. If you formatted the system partition from a custom recovery you can boot back into the custom recovery and adb push a ROM to your sdcard
Install the drivers on the computer. Then put the phone in fastboot mode like uber mentioned. Then push the rom to the phone and flash it in recovery. If you didnt install a recovery either, youll need one of those too.
Yeah hard to tell by her post if her bootloader is unlocked or not. I didnt think it was possible to wipe system without unlocking the boot loader and flashing a new recovery. Which means she needs knowledge of fastboot to even set that up.
The more i read the OP the more it sounds like unless she bought a used rooted phone off ebay. This thing is stock and just needs to boot to stock recovery and perform a factory reset from there. And that her system is fine.
With then phone off, hold down both volume buttons. Then hold down the power button, once it boots , use the volume keys to cycle and the power button to select. Navigate to recovery and perform a factory reset.

Plug in your phone via USB, in Fastboot mode.
Does it show in the device manager? It might not be called 'Galaxy Nexus', might be called something Fastboot related. It might be in the USB section.
XP:To open Device Manager, click Start, and then click Control Panel. Click Performance and Maintenance, and then click System. On the Hardware tab, click Device Manager.
7: Hit windows key, type in "Device Manager"
If there's a yellow triangle next to the device, the drivers on your PC may be not working correctly.
If it is working correctly, the easiest option is to load the Galaxy Nexus Toolkit, and flash stock ROM.
You installed the drivers as mentioned I take it?

THIS. IS. NEXUS.
Ash just install the drivers for the galaxy nexus, download a rom like aokp (the "maguro" version is the gsm version. Dont flash "toro" versions those are for cdma ) and then push it to the sd card using fastboot. All those steps are listed in a lot of posts in great detail by the author mskip and are stickied in the dev section here. Just read his posts for questions or drivers . Its all pretty straight forward once you read the right posts. Id avoid using any toolkits though, its all fairly simple stuff. And dont worry about the geeks here being surprised about seeing females. Some of them have never left the basement before. ( no offence guys , i got no problem with the homosexuals )

Or you could boot into bootloader and select recovery. From there connect ur phone to ur pc and from the recovery, mount sd card or toggle USB storage which ever it is... enable it and ur sdcard would appear on ur pc, from there copy ur Rom after copying the Rom, unmount ur sdcard from the recovery. From there u can go on and flash your Rom.

I realize that it works and download mode is available.
What I'm saying is that Odin itself is a leaked tool from Samsung. There is no proper documentation for it and there is no official support from Samsung since we aren't even supposed to have Odin.
Fast boot methods are recommended and supported by Google. That is the official way to get out of a jam on a nexus device.
I can't believe that I even have to explain that.
