can't tell because i'm looking at the screen almost flat, at a 70+ degree angle

I'm looking at my one x right now and in my opinion it makes a perfect black, I can't tell the difference between the black and when the screen is off

How is it compared to the amoled?

Not quite as black, but very good for a LCD in my opinion. I hardly notice it unless I compare side by side with my GSII.

Is it worth buying it or just wait for the next htc phone with amoled?

HTC I doubt will release their next flagship phone with an AMOLED panel.
besides I wouldn't wait for that, it's a downgrade essentially, and the IPS SLCD2 Panel in the One X is definitely superior to Amoled displays currently.

^^^ what they said x 2.

Blacks won’t be 100% black on conventional backlit LCD panels due to the use of large backlights. But on AMOLED screens black pixels can be completely turned off making that area pitch black (since they are individually illuminated).
Advantages of AMOLED :
Deeper blacks
high contrast ratios
low power consumption
Disadvantages :
unrealistic colors due to manufacturers oversaturating blue pixels to make them last longer
screen burning
fuzzy images if sub pixels are shared (pentile displays)
Advantages of IPS/LCD :
More accurate color reproduction

reduced power/burn-in theme?

OLED on the S2 is awesome but the because its "+" the blue materials decay almost 5x faster, meaning color balance issues and burn-in. But wut about a pure black theme with yellow instead of white for letters(or just green, but only 1 sub pixel is twice as grainy as 2)and red for dividing lines? May not sound pretty, but I would appreciate it for my galaxy s, and used S2 owners would appreciate it the most by improving the screen longevity on one of the sexiest phones released.

+1 to your request.. I was using a sense 4.0 inspired theme, very bright colors.. The other day I just checked the phone in Test Mode, to my horror the status bar had burnt in.!!
I checked my warranty, had 27 days remaining so got the display unit replaced.. I dont want this one to go bad in 11 months..
Hence, I request too..!!!

Even tho i agree with your request and +1 for it, you should try screen adjuster from the market.
Ofc it doesn't save your screen colours but definately makes it look as it should with the right settings.

Why does the SGS3s screen look better than the GNexs when its the same Super SAMOLED?

It's as if the colors and the screen pops more up while ours looks great but not as popped up and more in depth and concave sort of way. As if there is a grainy screen that's all like gauss covering the screen. Why did they opt for a cheaper crappier screen on the GNex?

Natural looking colors on gnex. Think it's better.

I love the sgs3s screen better. Due to it being more vibrant and bright!

Ya, pentile sucks. My og dinc's screen looked better as far as colors go. But it gets the job done, which for me is displaying everything this [email protected]%&ing awesome phone can do

Yes, the SGS3's screen is also pentile, note the lack of plus at the end of Super AMOLED HD.
Different colour profile, different Q/A requirements (Have you noticed that there is very little black in touchwizz UX, maybe to avoid the low brightness blacks become purple issue).
Tweaks made to the panels and manufacturing process after doing them in blunk for the gnexus?
All of the above?
Your guess is as good as mine

You do realize this link is irrelevant to the topic at hand, right?
Anyway, I have had my phone next to my friends S3 and with the color tweaks on the GNEX I did not notice any difference. Stock GNEX screen, sure it looks horrible. My GNEX looks 10x better then any stock GNEX screen as well.
I would say quality control. Samsung took the time to perfect the S3's colors. I love my screen and it's vibrant and all that. Granted I've never compared the two.

Trinity colors FTW!
Try it. Screen of GNex looks way better than SGS3!
SGS screens are poorly calibrated. Over saturated, over sharpened, etc.
Some people apparently like that.

Agreed.
Believe it or not there is a point where too much saturation is bad. It starts to look entirely unnatural. I'm happy where the saturation levels are at with my Nexus currently, still more vibrant than any LCD screen, but not to the point where everything looks like someone took the saturation dial and cranked it to max.

[Q] Multiple "Blue" Shades?

I picked one up today. It's a gunmetal color. The attached picture shows off like greyish silver. The shade changes depending on the angle and lighting. The demo units are definitely grey like in my picture. I was at another store and the previous customer picked up the last unit and it was almost black, which I really liked. Can anyone concurr they've seen units that are almost black?
only grey and white available.
Mine is darker than your pic.. but it could be lighting.. but in the brightest light I have mine isnt that silver.. but its still "gun metal" just darker... probably lighting

I saw several units in various stores. There was one that was a tad darker, but most look similar to mine.
Mine is quite a bit darker. I would say that it almost looks black on the front. The back is pretty light still.

Make your screen colour representation accurate

so I was reading a test done comparing iPhone 5 with the note 2. according to the findings, once you such display mode to movie and unchecked auto adjust picture tone to save battery- the contrast ratio, whiteness level and all color errors are all improved drastically. I must concur because I have notice a much better colours rep and the whites do look a bit better aswell.

I would like a reference picture to compare against. Maybe the original is that bright.

EDIT now that i think about it the pictures should all look the same on the PC since it is that phone that is changing the color and nothing changes on the picture right? so even though i took screen shots of each one at each screen mode, will that color variation be visible on the screen shot or only if im veiwing it on the phone.

They all look the same. Main reason why i prefer movie to natural is the skin color. It looked much more natural. Also the contrast ratio increases on the movie mode.

Swear I was thinking the same thing lol.
I wouldnt have bought a Amoled screen if i wanted accurate colors. But good find to those that want.
The positive is that Samsung Note 2 actually allows you to choose which color representation you prefer.
Also, I don't think the color resolution is stored in the captured screen shot image. It's just how the image is displayed on your Note2. That's why each photo you uploaded looks the same. of course I'm usually wrong on these type of things.
I prefer to use Natural. But I wish we had some control over the screen temperature. I prefer my screen a little cooler than what it's currently displaying.
I was stating id like to see the demo image outside of my phone. See what the original colors looks like, pale vs bright yellows. That would help me decide what looks most "natural"

****WARNING****
You have one of the most advanced screens ever put in a phone. Its so visually pleasing others may stair with envy, some will comment on its beauty while trying to touch it, a rare few might even complain its just to brilliant (giggle). For your convenience we have added the option to dull it down to a level of your choice so you might better blend in with the rest of the crowd holding dull looking screens.

Also brightness was set to max.
With brightness set to max, I found "Movie" to give the best picture. However, I never have brightness set to max - usually automatic. I found "Movie" a bit dull at lower levels, but I'm used to it now, and there will be less screen burn-in, and blue burn-out. We have three-year contracts in Canada, and I don't want to have noticeable OLED burn-in and loss of blue after a couple of years ...
Definitely takes some getting used to for Movie but while not as perky colored, I quite enjoy this subdued tone. In the end, having choices is great.

Hm.. It might be because my Nexus 4 screen has a custom color profile? It doesn't bother me that much but side by side it's definitely noticeable

Wait nvm idek it looks dull on low lights but like 50+ it looks okay I mean the nexus 4 definitely looks writer but the n7 doesn't look to bad, should I return it? The volume down is like so much less clicky then the other buttons and there's a little bit of light bleed, is that worth returning?

My first one had very white whites...the replacement for it (dead pixels issue)...not very white whites. The displays definitely vary significantly in color temp.

Are you guys talking about the whites in a browser page or the whites in video.
The whites in my browser page do look quite white.
The whites in videos look a little yellow.
So for my unit, that looks like a color calibration choice/issue for the video decoding process.

I been through about 4 of these things and the one I have is about the best yet, my 16 gig nexus was great my 32 gigs so many flaws. the one I received today. has serious white issues, playing big buck the bunny side by side the white has a pink hue, my current one with minor light bleed looks way better. this one I received today has deeper blacks but the pink hue looks so horrible. it's definatly a issue. I have a S4 and my current N7 looks spot on with whites. I just wish the halo light bleed wasn't there.
